Tonight was my first time ordering at this family owned restaurant. As I waited for my to go order I notice all the customers coming in knew the manager by name. Everyone seemed to be regular! Disabled Band of Brothers Veterans NOT welcome! These two gentlemen are patients of mine. It had been a great day and I was treating them to an evening out, away from the facility. One is Navy Veteran of Korea and the other is Bronze Star recipient of Viet Nam (Army). It was a special day for these two and they chose to go out for Chinese food. Upon arrival and one by one, (Could only fit the 1 wheelchair in the car) brought the men into the restaurant. The man was on the phone, the woman and younger man just standing around at the back of the restaurant. None of them offered to hold the door, while I struggled with it and the wheelchair. A waiting take-out order customer was kind enough to help me out with the door. Once seated, we waited 5 minutes before anyone would even acknowledge us (the place was empty), much less bring water and menus. Not even 60 seconds after getting the menus, the lady started barking at us, over and over, "you ready? - you ready? - you order now!". I asked her could we have a minute to actually READ the menu? I couldn't believe what she said next: "you bad attitude!" Excuse me? That was the final straw. It was quite apparent to me, they do NOT WANT DINE-IN Customers - only take out. This was obvious by her being so rude and commenting with a racial slur, to the other staffer in her native language. That was it! We got up and with the same struggle, got everyone back out to the car and went elsewhere. Bad attitude? NOT ON OUR PART!!! Double Happiness! My classic local Chinese food joint ever since they opened I don't how many years ago. Classic Chinese food from fried rice to pork chow mein, low mein, chow fun (my favorite) egg flower and hot sour soup it's all here folks. Never any MSG and little known fact for you: Double Happiness are the exclusive cooks for the Chinese National snowboarding team for their yearly training visits to Mount Bachelor. What more of an endorsement does one need? Is it like being in Hong Kong? Probably not. But as a slice of Chinese food Americana you can't go wrong. read more

The food was great except they didn't put the sweet and sour sauce in our to go order for our sweet and sour chicken. We drove from Sunriver to Bend to get it and weren't going to drive back for it. Would have gave 5 stars if there wasn't an issue. read more

Double Unhappiness - we just moved into the area and decided to order delivery - it was a bit pricey ($50 to feed me, my husband, and 2 small children) but if the food is great I'm okay with that. Let me just say this was our first and last time ordering food from here. It was probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had - greasy, clunky fried appetizers (Crab Rangoon), and just a strange taste overall. My husband's Mongolian beef was mediocre at best. The kids hated the fried shrimp (greasy and overly fried). Sadly, we threw out our dinner and wasted $50 + tip. Never again. read more

This is a nice insured to review. We order from DoorDash. The portions are huge. But the food was extremely extremely extremely extremely greasy. The oils were spilling out which they had to put a plastic bag over her food. And the food was mediocre too OK. Next time we'll go inside to try it but the food was really greasy and we could barely finish 25% of it. read more

Poor Double Happiness. If I was writing this review 2 yrs ago it would have been glowing. They were great. However, this is sadly no longer the case. :( We order take-out from Double Happiness from time to time (maybe every other month or so) and have noticed that the quality of the food has been declining. It's a crap shoot as to whether or not everything in our order (that we paid for) winds up in the bag. However, we decided to go to Double Happiness for dinner on Mother's Day this year after cruising through the Chan's parking lot and being unable to find a single parking space and spying a line out the door. We probably just should have scrapped getting Chinese food that night because Double Happiness was NOT a good alternative. The surly man behind the counter when we entered basically growled at us and quickly seated us in a booth that wasn't the best choice for a family with a baby in an infant carrier. We made do, though, and pulled up a chair for the carrier. Our server, a young woman probably 20ish, wanted to take our order about a minute after we sat down. We told her we weren't ready yet, so she left and reappeared about 2 minutes later. We told her again that we still hadn't decided. She left and then appeared about 3 minutes later. My husband and I just looked at each other in astonishment . Had to laugh about that one. Anyhow, the husband ordered a combo w/sweet and sour pork and kung pao beef, I ordered a combo w/sweet and sour chicken and cashew chicken and we requested an extra plate for our 4 yr old since there's no way he could even make a dent in one of their enormous "kids meals". The server acted annoyed with us, but whatevs. Once the food arrived, it wasn't good. 3/4 of our plates were drowned in the flavorless sweet and sour sauce (including the pork-fried rice) and my cashew chicken had the distinct aftertaste of dish soap. Needless to say, we didn't ask for containers to take our nearly full plates home with us. Yeah, we'll pass on Double Happiness in the future. read more

On the quest to find authentic Chinese food in Bend and so far Double Happiness has ranked top out of the 7 places we have tried. Having lived in SF I'm used to getting cheap and genuine hole in the wall Chinese food. Options are a bit more limited in CO but Double Happiness was good. My wife and 3yo also concur. None of us had upset stomachs or that strange dehydration headache and offness you some times get with mega MSG places (no MSG here). The food was less americanized/sweet and tasted more like the food I've had in Chinatowns all over the US. We had cashew chicken (with a lot of cashews!) and dried fried green beans. Both were tasty and the portions were huge (enough for the wife and I to have a big lunch the next day). I'm looking forward to going back for some of the noodle dishes and maybe a beef dish. I'm even tempted to try the dim sum on Sundays though from what I was told is not made fresh (likely frozen then steamed/fried here). Still...where else in Bend can you get dim sum? Prices were ok. They were not the cheapest for Chinese food in Bend but for the taste I'd pay the premium and as mentioned you should have plenty of leftovers. The real test will be when I bring my Chinese parents there next week when they visit! Just a minor update: Went back and tried fried noodle (chow mein) and fried rice dishes. They were ok. For the money I would stick to entrees and steamed rice. Also, tried Cindy's up in Redmond last weekend and noticed their marquee said they have Dim Sum on Sundays as well. read more

Super-duper standard Chinese food... ambiance and service were very average (i.e., below average), and unless someone called me to tell me that the coolest people in town were meeting at Double Happiness for some eats, I will not be returning here. Nothing stood out. I love to eat, and nothing in these calories are worth it. Bummer, but not too terribly surprising... I don't see too many Asian people around these parts. So, for that it gets 2 stars rather than 1 - because expectations should be really low... and they are, but not low enough apparently. read more

We love Double Happiness! The food is always good and the staff are kind and hardworking. We came in tonight for a pickup order and it was clearly pretty busy for the few employees they had on hand. Both employees were busting their butts and it was obvious they were very short staffed, so it put a very bad taste in my mouth when another woman came out of nowhere and berated the male employee in front of us. They were doing their best and as a restaurant manager, I was impressed with their work flow. Absolutely unprofessional and distasteful to be rude to the employees, especially in front of customers. Completely disappointed with treatment of the staff and hope to never see this again. read more

Fav Chinese food in bend.. this is our go to place.. they have all the usual suspects that we Americans associate with Chinese food.. my fav is the pot stickers and chicken fried rice.. This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant. We have eaten in and taken out many times and every time the service is friendly and timely. I don't like most noodles but their lo mein is the only kind I'll eat. It does not taste like wet dog, unlike some other restaurants' noodles. We usually order their pork fried rice and it's been consistent every time. I completely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a Chinese restaurant to make their go-to. read more

While the food is average at best. We ordered over the phone, Mother's Orange chicken, Mandarin beef,Garlic green beans, Vegetarian Rice, two container of white rice that's include with the entree's. This was ordered over the phone for take-out. They said 15 minutes and it was made in that time frame. My only complaint, it was almost 70.00 for the item's described. We tend to stop here when going to shop at nearby stores. Is reliably good Chinese food with large portions, even at lunch when price is lowest for a meal. It must be good food since we have not felt the need to try other places even though have noticed other Asian restaurants. 1. When we got to the establishment we were seated and given water but no menus. The woman who sat us was the 'Boss' according to the front desk man. She then went to the kitchen. We sat for about 10 minutes while while the man at the front desk helped everyone else who was leaving to pay and for the people who called on the phone to then receive menus. 2. They are not vegetarian friendly. When attempting to order food they gave me every which reason why they could not make the order. What it boiled down to is they do not have a vegetarian option that they provide and will not make smaller orders of food because they want to price gouge you. Tell me why I can order pork fried rice for 4$ but if I want fried rice with out meat I have to pay 11$? No half portions either. 'No, we don't do that any more'.‍‍ No you just want to charge me 3x the amount you do someone who eats meat because you know you can. 3. When we received our food it was wrong their was some weird sweet plum sauce on the egg foo young. This normally has some type of gravy on it. This was so sweet it literally made the food inedible. 4. When the woman came to fill our water she leaned over the table to fill a glass and literally stuck her breast into the food. No apologies nothing just stared and walked away. If you can not reach across the table then DO NOT I repeat DO NOT fill the glass ask for it to be handed to you. Instead of that she beyond ruined our dining experience. 5. On top of all of this I did find vegetables in our food that were already turning black. Specifically celery. I am in a generous mood tonight (I am SUCH a nice person, my wife and kids tell me that all the time ... NOT) so I will give Double Happiness 3 stars. Truth be told, they are somewhere between good and mediocre, but I cannot give them 2 stars. Their steamed dumplings were .... gooey, and the dumpling filling was extremely dense and borderline dry. The dipping sauce was fine. I had their signature dish - Double Happiness - and it was like all other diced hot plate dishes I have had. At least the ingredients were fresh, the texture of the seafood was firm and not mushy, and the sauce did not detract from the dish. Overall impression was "bland all over". At least I have complete confidence that I will not get sick from eating there. But other than that, there is nothing about Double Happiness that makes it stand out from all the myriad American Chinese places that cater to Round Eyes. read more

Located on the East side this restaurant offers a good menu of selections. We like the cashew chicken, vegetable beef and the sizzling platters. We've always had good service and were seated and served quickly even when they are busy. The prices are typical and on par with other Bend Chinese restaurants. They offer take out. Double Happiness? Yes. If you like food swimming in grease you will be VERY happy. I'm pretty open minded when trying a new place but this was bad. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken. The first bite was rather tasty and fresh but as I continued I was met with more and more grease. After the food sat for a few short minutes, the bottom was swimming in grease. I tipped the plate and could literally spoon off grease if I wanted to. My sister ordered paper wrapped chicken and crab puffs. The paper wrapped chicken was not wrapped in paper. It was wrapped in aluminum foil. This was a big issue because the chicken stuck to the foil so we lost about half the chicken per serving because we couldn't get it off the foil. What chicken we could get off was pretty much just all fat with a little meat. There are two reason I gave it a 2 star rating and not a 1 star. #1 I am not a big fan of crab puffs but I actually liked these. #2 The place was very neat and clean right down to the bathrooms. Unfortunately, with the exception of the crab puffs, everything was so greasy that we could only eat about a 1/4 of our meal. I took the rest home hoping maybe my 30+ years culinary experience could rescue what we could not finish and make it more palatable. I went here looking for some good Chinese food for lunch. The food was mediocre at best. The food and decor are very dated. This place might have done ok ten or fifteen years ago but standards change. This place is well behind the curve. Nothing at all really stands out as being special. Lunch prices are $7.95 here "Dinner prices are much higher than the average as well". Considering most Chinese restaurants in town charge $6.95. There really isn't any point in going here. Out of all the Chinese restaurants in Bend this one is the best! I have my favorites other places but double happiness is consistently great! Whenever I'm in the mood for Chinese this is where my husband and I go. The manager is very nice. A little timid but very nice. This place went down hill. The food was worse then horrible. I couldn't eat it, it looked old and had a funny nasty taste. And it wasn't just me, my mother thought the same thing of her food. I won't be back and I surly hope the we don't get sick. I used to go all the time, it was our go to place. I'm not sure what happen...... After getting cold, old food from other places, we decided we will only go here from now on. The food is prepared fresh for every order, the soup here is better than the others too! This is probably the grossest Chinese I have ever had. A strip mall joint is better than this place. I don't know who is eating here to keep this place afloat - but it is purely table scrap Chinese food. I feel like I'm eating deep fried rubber. I would not recommend this joint and have tried it twice now, holding on to hope it could be good. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken, cashew chicken, and fried rice. We did take out here the other day for dinner , I purchased mothers chicken and chicken fried rice , the menu says $25.90 which I felt was a bit pricey , but then I went to pick up the order I was charged almost $28.00 dolllars !
