Food not very good and over cooked. Not hot when we got it home. Had to heat it! Just an overall lousy experience.

We had Fried Rice with Pork and Hot & Sour soup. Both were marginally passable, at best. The fried rice was over cooked and bland. The Hot & Sour soup was neither hot nor sour. It was gelatinous, bland and - quite frankly - icky. I never knew either dish could be ... bad. I would not order anything more difficult, if you order anything at all. Thumbs down. read more

Absolute crap!!! It must be policy that for to go orders or delivery that they used leftovers from the days before! EVERYTHING tastes old and reheated. The BBQ pork is nearly gray. The fried rice we ordered turned into stale, crunchy pork fried rice. The human chicken is tough, barely warm, and tastes chemical. When I entered my online order it said closes in 44 minutes. We're only 7 minutes away so I think no problem. We ordered Pork fried rice with extra egg, sesame chicken and pot stickers. The pork fried rice had egg, rice and 4 Slices of BBQ pork on top. No veggies, the pork was dried out and the only flavor was soy sauce. The sesame chicken is supposed to be crispy but it was gray and I'm guessing they had a dinner buffet and the sesame chicken tasted like it sat there all day. It wasn't crispy and wasn't sprinkled with sesame seeds like the dish in the picture. The pot stickers also seemed like they were precooked as they are usually served crispy but these were doughy. Not sure if it was closing time or it was just a poor choice but that was $50 worth of garbage which is where it went. I'd rather go to sleep hungry than eat food like that. read more

I've eaten here in the past. I liked the food then, but recently ordered Egg Foo Yung and it had NO EGG, or very little egg in it. It should be close to a frittata, but this was a flour patty (see picture). Hardly any sprouts, onions or anything BUT flour. I was charged ~$22 for EGG foo yung, but was given a fake flour patty, as if I'm stupid and never had EGG foo yung before. I DO NOT like being lied to and DO NOT like dishonesty in cooking. Don't listen to all the negative reviews, those people wouldn't know good Chinese food if it hit them in the face. I ordered the Mandarin Chicken and my husband got the Sizzling Pepper Beef with a side of sweet and sour soup. Everything was absolutely delicious. Nothing was greasy and it's literally the best orange chicken I have ever had. Highly recommended eating here. Unlike these Karen's I'm not from a no where mountain town. I was there for maybe five minutes before walking out with my food (I ordered when I got to the restaurant, not earlier by phone). - Szechuan beef: very good, nice cuts of beef with no grizzle, tasty sauce. Large portion. Not in the least spicy so if you're ordering in, you might need them to kick it up. - Vegetable lo mein: also good and also a large portion. This dish was lighter than most lo meins I've had. Lots of sliced celery. Prices seem high but I say are in line with what you pay these days. As mentioned, portions are large so you get good value. Number 1! First time here. Came for lunch. Egg drop soup- excellent. Mate had hot and sour soup - excellent. Entrees we're delivered promptly, Piping hot! King Poa Shrimp w/ fried rice. - Double excellent and large portions. Pork chow Mein also generous and delish. Pork fried rice spiked w/chunks of succulent pork. Full bar serves wine and cocktails. 10/10 for us, Authentic, delicious Chinese food. Reminded me of back home in the bay area, I would recommend, i'd take friends here, and forsure be my go to spot when i want some chinese food. I hadn't eaten all day and I had a craving for Chinese. I think that Double Happiness was the only Chinese restaurant I hadn't tried in Central Oregon. W and I ordered takeout, which included tofu kung pao, shrimp mu shu and sesame chicken. I didn't try the chicken, but W wasn't happy that it wasn't served in a sauce. The tofu kung pao was edible, but it didn't have the usual salty/sweet/sticky sauce and it was quite runny. It also wasn't as spicy as I like it. The tofu was cooked well though. The mu shu was pretty disappointing. The shrimp wasn't seasoned and tasted mushy. The dish didn't have the typical smokey wok flavor that I love. The plum sauce saved it enough for me to enjoy it. The pancakes were very thin and perfect. The servings are HUGE! I mean HUGE! The prices are pretty typical for this area (high), but I would sacrifice quality over quantity. We ordered three dishes and found that each dish is enough to feed 3 or four people normal portions. We are going to have to freeze some of the food, but I'm not looking forward to 10 more meals of it. The woman who brought my order and checked me out was so sweet and polite. read more

Just your average Chinese food. Large portions, reasonable prices. Not mind-blowing but not terrible. I'll have to take photos next time. Decent enough mainstream American Chinese food. A little bit less popular than Chans but in my opinion it's the same quality, it just comes down to which place you like better. Their portions aren't quite as gigantic as Chans, but they are definitely big enough. The service is great, the food hits the spot, it's exactly what you expect when you want mainstream American Chinese food. The hot and sour soup needs some adjustment though... It's oddly sweet, and doesn't have the usual mushrooms, flavor, etc. read more

Double Happiness is between a 2 start and 4 star depending on the day you go. It's hard to tell what it's going to be like which makes it a gamble but with any gamble sometimes you win and other times you lose. It's fairly light and bright and I've never waited long to get a seat. The service and quality of the food is the gamble. We've had good food and bad service, good service and bad food, and even the winning combo of good food and good service that's the true "Double Happiness". When you hit the Double Happiness combo it's one of the better Chinese Restaurants in Bend for this style of food. Don't expect fancy or fusion. It's just the type of food most of us grew up with and expect when ordering a numbered combination off the menu. read more

Chans is way better. Lots of food in portions, maybe too much per plate, but kinda just super basic Chinese. Tea tasted like minimally flavored water. Food gets out to each table in about 10-20 mins. Lots of seating. Windows. Food update after an hour: gives me the gas and odd stomach feels. Staff are quick with their ordering and delivery to tables but hard to hear them sometimes. Some of the worst Chinese food we've ever had! We had sweet and sour chicken and pork fried rice. The chicken pieces were quite large compared to what we're used to with sweet and sour chicken, and had a chewy, virtually tasteless coating. The chicken itself was very dry and tough - needed a knife to cut through. It came with a huge scoop of pork fried rice that had probably been in the pot all day. It was dry and bland, with almost no flavor. Both my wife and I literally threw half the meal in the garbage. Very disappointed - definitely won't be back! read more

I have been to this restaurant many times in the past. My family and I came back to visit and stopped in. The food was not the best. Not sure why our food had cinnamon which did not make for a good flavor. All 4 plates where luke warm and seemed like we where eating someones left overs. I started to wonder if they had new owners however I saw the same people running the restaurant so I had to ask while I finish up eating the little bit that I did. Been a mainstay since moving here a year ago. Always take-out, easy to carry in a small box. Family run and always great portions and fresh.

The staff was very friendly. They made everyone feel very welcome. Food-wise it was alright. The beef with broccoli comes with abundant serving of fresh broccoli and tender beef. A good basic dish. I think we should have just gotten this one dish. The Sichuan style plate was not really very spicy - but similar brown sauce to the beef with broccoli. It's ingredients were fresh enough. Will NEVER attempt this place . And after reading all these reviews, they just confirmed we won't even try it . We went there at 8 pm . They were open till 9 pm , according to their sign on the door . When we walked in within a few seconds , an older lady greeted us . I asked for a booth for 2 . She says to us , we close at nine . I said , an hour should be enough time for just the two of us . She just repeated again we close at 9 . Then I said , do you want us to just leave ? She says again ! We close at 9 . It was like the two of us just turned around and walked OUT , as she was walking away . We ended up @ Chan's , and were out of there by 8:56 p.m . Not like they are next door . There would have been plenty of time in that hour to make our food , us eat and be gone from Double Happiness before 9 pm . After reading all these reviews , it was probably a Godsend in disguise ! We aren't real fans of Chan's either , but at the least , they were polite and nice . We live in Gilchrist. Nothing in LaPine we care for either , as far as Chinese . Still searching since moving to Central Oregon . Double Happiness were just plain rude ! The older cook came from the Oregon Lottery room right next door , as we were getting in our truck to leave . The chow mein didn't have any noodles, it was just WAY over cooked mushy vegetables with hard small breadsticks. I ordered takeout of Szechuan beef. I liked that it had a nice mixture of zucchini, carrots, onions an beef. The rice was fine an the portions that they gave of both Szechuan beef an rice was good. For the price it was acceptable. I just found the Szechuan sauce to be bland an under flavor when I got it home. I added sriracha sauce an white pepper to the dish to bump up the flavor. The vegetables an beef were cooked properly, but the zucchini could have been stir fried a bit more. Would I get this dish again here, yes. But it's not my go too place ( 4-Star or higher) if I really want Szechuan beef. read more

We have tried this little neighborhood spot a few times, each time I hope it would be better. Yesterday we ordered (takeout only) a combo plate with pork fried rice, mother's chicken, crabs puffs and bbq pork. Plus, a child's order of fried shrimp and pork fried rice. #1. The fried rice was dry and greasy. #2. The shrimp was so doughy and also greasy. #3. Mother's chicken was unrecognizable as chicken. Very tough and dry. #4. Crab puffs contained NO crab only cream cheese, they must have been sitting under a heat lamp as it was very hard to bite into them. #5. I will give the bbq pork a 5 STAR rating-very tender and flavorful. This is the final time we will order from Double Happiness! read more
