We ordered the pork banh mi sandwich, Spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, and the roasted broccoli. The portion sizes were not pared down for happy hour. The sandwich was quite large and filling; the rolls were really good; the broccoli, well was broccoli, nothing special. The place appears to get very packed for happy hour we were lucky to snag the last available table near the door. Many people that came after us waited around and some even left. So keep that in mind if you have your heart set on happy hour at Double Knot - there may be a wait. read more

This restaurant has a cool speakeasy-like feel. Hidden underneath a bar, you have to take the stairs in the back down to get seated. A neat place to go for date night! The food was delicious. We did the chef's tasting menu, which was SO worth the price! Food portions were generous and delicious. Everything came out quickly. Funny that the word "knot" is used, as both the service and food are disjointed. Underwhelming food and service. The venue also leaves a lot to be desired, having an ambiance closer to a sports bar than the trendy asian fusion restaurant it strives to be. I suppose if you appeal to the lowest common denominator, you may find success, but that has to tempered against the objectively poor quality of the food, saying nothing of the service. The only thing this has over a Chinatown establishment is the familiarity that comes with a Western etiquette. read more

I do feel like the tables (especially upstairs) are a bit close together; I understand they try to fit as many people as possible for HH, but you are often right on top of other parties. Also, considering you are expected to share several different plates, the tables are very small in comparison to how many individual plates you receive. Lovers Knot Drink - 4/5 I don't drink much but this drink was perfectly sweet and not too alcohol tasting. Pretty yummy and fizzy! Kung Pao wings - 4.5/5 The sauce was so flavorful! Had a good amount of spice and wasn't flavored with a basic wing sauce. There was a little bit too much breading for me but overall very good. Crispy outside and juicy wings inside. Edamame dumplings - 6/5 My favoriteeee item here. It's unique and delicious. I love truffle and it does have a strong truffle flavor, if you dont like truffle it might not be for you. The edamame is good in it, the filling is creamy and has a cheesy texture even though theres no cheese in it I think, very savory, flavorful, and delicious. And the soup compliments perfectly with it! Pork Belly Bao 4/5 The flavor is good, pork is crispy outside but juicy inside, the bread and meat quality itself seemed a bit stale but overall not bad Albacore Tanaki - 5/5 Very good quality albacore raw fish. The seasoning and herbs matched perfectly with it. Spicy Tuna Rolls - 4.5/5 A great basic sushi item. The tuna quality was good and the spicy mayo was a good addition Kimchi fried rice - 3/5 I do like how big this item is for HH. But it does not taste like kimchi at all. I'm picturing authentic Korean style kimchi fried rice with a rice crust and a sour and spicy kimchi flavor. However this flavor is more reminiscent of a Chinese shrimp fried rice. Its a good flavored rice I'll admit, its moist, but it does not taste like kimchi fried rice. Not sour or spicy at all. Even though all the dishes weren't knockouts I still give it 5/5 for happy hour. Their HH menu has a lot of items for a good price, the vibe here is nice, and the food is good! Top 5 meals of my life! This place has been on my list forever and we finally decided to pull the trigger for our anniversary dinner. First off, it was hard to get a reservation here even a week in advance on a weeknight. We actually couldn't get one but set up resy notifications and one ended up opening up the day before. It was for the downstairs dining room which I heard is the best place to sit. It was cozy and intimate. For drinks, my husband ordered the double knot. It smokes which is pretty cool. I tried it but not really an old fashioned fan. He also had the lovers knot which I tried and thought was good. I had the jungle slip which was awesome. It was made with tequila, strawberry, cordial,Campari, lime and mezcal. We decided to do the chef's tasting menu. You can either let the chef pick or pick one dish from each category. I am not adventurous enough for that so we picked ourselves. We had the following from each section: Cold/ Albacore: amazing and flavorful Small/ Pork gyoza: also amazing. This was my husband's favorite Crispy/ Shrimp taco: this was my second favorite. The flavors were just incredible. Shrimp is fried. Meat/ Tokyo Hot Chicken: This was probably my least favorite but still good. It was pretty spicy though and my husband thought his chicken was a little chewy. Fish/ Japanese scallop: this was also great, nice and seared. Side/ Cod Fried Rice: unique and tasted delicious. Great flavors. Robatayaki/ Rib Eye: amazing. Probably my favorite dish. Melt in your mouth good. Robatayaki/ Lamb Chop: so good and tender. Sushi Rolls/ Blue Crab: was so hard to pick just one but this ended up being delicious. Sashimi/Yellowtail: So I am not going to lie this was my first time having sashimi so this was a bit out of comfort zone plus I had nothing to compare it to. But overall I enjoyed it. Dessert/Mochi: we had the espresso and chocolate chip mochi. I have only tried mochi once before from Whole Foods and this was WAY better. Loved both flavors. I'd definitely recommend the chef's tasting menu. It is $65 per person. If you're less picky than me you can let them pick but I knew there were certain things on the menu I didn't want. This is more of a special occasion place for me, but I would definitely go back. There are more things I want to try for sure. Our server was Hazel and he did an amazing job. One of the best-hidden restaurants in the city. You have to enter through another restaurant to get to Double Knot. Once you walk down the stairs you are placed somewhere unique and special. They have a great happy hour and everything is delicious! Their cocktails are incredible but they also offer wine and beer as well. I highly highly recommend getting their Brussels sprouts. They are crispy and delicious. I also recommend their edamame which is the perfect cold dish to start with. Now onto the main food which is the best part. You have choices between getting a meat dish, rolls/handrolls, sashimi, and robatayaki. Now if you just want to stick with one meat and not be adventurous then go for it, but trust me when I say you will be missing out. The best way to eat here is by ordering the robatayaki. For the robatayaki, they offer vegetables, pork, meat, poultry, and seafood. They are small portions and are absolutely incredible. I love getting the rib eye scallion, short rib, lamb chop, and scallop. I also enjoy their rolls as well. I like to get yellowtail scallion, spicy scallops, baked seabass, and spicy tuna. Each roll is fresh and delicious. When you eat at Double Knot, you can tell that the chefs take a lot of pride and joy in their cooking. Everything is fresh, unique, and favorable. One of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a while. This place has a really nice vibe. Very attentive staff from the minute you walk through the door. Initially I sat at the bar and was attended quickly by the bartender. Cocktails were on point!! Once seated our waitress was a sweetheart and offered some great suggestions. The food was phenomenal and each selection came out with perfect timing. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious!! Couldn't be happier with the Chefs tasting menu. A friend took me to Double Knot for a birthday dinner. We had a reservation for 5pm. This was also my first time ever having sushi. SHORT STORY: Good sushi, nice ambiance, perfect place to have a date. Dress code ranged from hockey jerseys (Flyers game that evening) to business casual, depending on your occasion. They will tell you to order as much as you want at once because it all comes out at different times. However, you can still order more once the waiter checks on you. LONG STORY: We got to the entrance I thought this was some secret passageway but once inside I was very surprised at how nice the place was. The top level had a few seating areas and a bar. It was very dimly lit for a nice ambiance. I'm not sure what time the top level opened but from my understanding the basement level opened later. We waited about 5 minutes to get seated because we arrived early and had to wait for the basement level to open. Once we were greeted, we were taken through another doorway down a dark staircase with candles that aligned the stairs. Again, the ambiance was very nice, calming and very dimly lit. We were greeted by our waiter and the menu and process was throughly explained to us. The food started to come out we had some Blue Crab rolls, Shrimp Tempura, and Japanese Fried Chicken. The service was good! All the food was good! I was surprised because I didn't think I'd like sushi but was just trying something new. read more

The waiter was a little spacey--food was frequently delayed and our table was not checked in regularly enough for a restaurant that requires ordering in waves. But they were really helpful on walking through the different options and answering questions which I appreciated. So why the one star? I was disappointed to see that owners Michael Schulson and Nina Tinari have foie gras on the menu. That is really lazy. If you can't find a way to make food taste good without shoving a pipe down a duck's esophagus, you don't know how to cook. Schulson and Tinari should really reconsider--this item alone communicates a lack of principles in an otherwise standup establishment. I will update my review when that happens. I'm sure many people will disagree. But ask yourself why...Is it because you don't want this perspective shoved down your throat? read more

Came in on a Monday afternoon around 5pm. Already had a 45 minute wait, that says something about this place. Ended up getting seated early. Started with the Double Knot cocktail- their version of a smoked old fashioned. Presentation was excellent, including a wood plank, wood chips and a torch. The drink was just as good. Ordered a number of small plates, including the seafood dumpling, blue crab sushi, General Tso Soup dumplings, tuna tartare, and Wagyu beef. Everything was excellent, but I especially liked the flavor of the beef. Service was fast and pleasant. If I lived in Philadelphia, this place would be a staple. read more

I've eaten here quite a few times over the years. The space is cool, albeit just a bit dark. I like ambiance but just a bit more glow-y lighting would go well. What I really love here is the happy hour. Super reasonable and great options. Tonight I had pork everything. Pork bao buns and pork dumplings. A cocktail and a house red was just right and I had more than enough room at the bar. Bites for dinner are pretty great off of that little menu. A coworker and I came here, ordered from the happy hour menu since we had to eat downstairs (word to the wise - make reservations if you want to eat dinner in the upstairs section), and ended up paying just $30 for both of us (and she even got a glass of wine). Highly recommend the Vietnamese crispy spring roll, edamame dumpling, and crispy Brussels sprouts. Everything was perfectly cooked, though I could have wished the Brussels sprouts were a touch less salty. Would not get the salmon avocado roll again as it tasted slightly fishy - never a good sign. The atmosphere is very nice and it is a large space with a top floor bar and an downstairs restaurant. I usually order some skewers and either fried rice or mushroom noodles, but whatever I order I know is going to be great. I like this spot also because it is upscale but clean and you can order here feeling healthy and that you are eating a nutritious meal. I highly recommend Double Knot for a night out. read more

I was visiting Philly with my mom and we came into Double Knot for the first time in a few years. We had a reservation at the sushi bar and were seated promptly after arriving. We ordered the the Savoy Anchor and Double Knot cocktails. Both very good. For food we went with the Chef's Tasting menu, which comes with 10 items and mochi. You can pick the items or have the chef pick for you (we did chef's choice). We got the Cucumber Salad, Edamame Dumpling, Nori Crust Filet, Broiled Seabass, Black Cod Fried Rice, Scallop and Pork Robatayaki, Salmon Avocado Roll, Yellow Tail Sashimi, and Spicy Baked Scallop and Crab. Everything was truly exceptional. They use fresh ingredients and flavors that really compliment each other. From start to finish we loved all 10 items we ate. Ambiance here is very fun. It's underground and low-lit, so it feels exclusive. We enjoy sitting by the sushi bar, because you can experience/see them in action while you're enjoying your food. Service was excellent. Our server and all the people we encountered were attentive and friendly. Overall, I highly recommend coming into Double Knot for a wonderful evening. Originally, I was going to leave a 2 star review given the customer service. I came by myself on Sunday 12/15/19 at 5 PM for Happy Hour. When I arrived, it was packed but I noticed an empty table by the entrance by the bookshelf. However, the waiter said it might be reserved so he'll go check. Meanwhile, 2 people walked by and sat at that table. When he returned, he said the table was not reserved but by now, it was occupied. I was annoyed because the wait was going to be long. Surprisingly, the waiter Brian C. and not the manager fixed the situation. Brian got me a nice table. He even sent over a complimentary edamame dumplings. He was attentive even though I dined solo. You would think he were the manager. I did speak to the manager (?) about my situation before I was seated and he didn't really seemed motivated to remediate the situation. Which was a shame because this has been one of my favorite Happy Hour spots. Anyways Brian saved the day otherwise I was very annoyed and almost left the restaurant since the wait was long. read more

I have mixed thoughts. Flavors and execution of dishes were fantastic! However portions for the prices were truly comical $30 for 2 bites of sea bass. We chose to order a la cart since we had a large party and thought agreeing on tastings might get difficult. I got the crispy brussel sprouts, chicken bao buns, salmon and sea bass and split with my sister. Chicken bao buns were definitely the best bang for your buck. However all dishes were delicious! Definitely would suggest the tasting as those portions are larger for the price. Overall, not sure I would go running back. read more

Sat downstairs- it was very pretty however was extremely dark. Most patrons were using their phone flashlight to be able to read menu. Went with the tasting menu to be able to try a variety of options. Portions were small. Out of the ten options available to us we enjoyed 2 or 3. The rest were disappointing. Ceviche had a nice flavor but was room temperature - not real appetizing. California roll felt like it had been frozen. Shrimp taco was our favorite as well as the ny strip steak. My second glass of Prosecco was flat but was replaced with a more vibrant glass of bubbles. Great ambiance upstairs that is more casual I guess you could say. Downstairs is dimmer and feels cozier. Either way, great experience. The sushi counter downstairs is also actually a great way to enjoy this place! Happy hour menu is extensive. Love it so much. Sushi is so fresh and all of the food is delicious. You really can't go wrong. I'm a sucker for the edamame dumplings, salmon avocado roll, and kimchee fried rice. I've done the chef's tasting menu as a date and had the chef choose all of the courses which was such a fun time. I also did a solo date here at the bar. Highly recommend for this. One of the best meals I've had in what feels like years! We came to DK on a Saturday night without reservations. Loved every moment from when we walked in to walking out. We took two available seats at the bar and started off with some drinks - the Double Knot and New Lovers Knot. It was fun to sip on a drink that was made right before your eyes - especially the DK, which involves a butane torch - hey, fire is more fun. We also started with an order of the wild mushroom gyoza and duck scrapple bao (bc why not?) The gyoza was cooked just right with bite after bite of savory mushrooms. Never have I seen scrapple presented in such a classy way but damn, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't delicious and I'd get it again immediately. We then ordered an assortment of plates including the big eye tuna, salmon, and kobe beef. Everything was fresh and practically melted in your mouth. It was my first time trying kobe and I feel like my life has changed for the better. I've eaten many meals since my visit here but nothing has even come close to that beef! Our bartender Nick was awesome - super busy yet attentive and a very cool guy to talk with. The staff in general was super warm and inviting - not pretentious at all, which can sometimes come with the territory. For what you get, the price tag really ain't all that bad. I met a friend for a random lunch. We checked out Double Knot. Great, great choice! The place is tranquil in terms of foot traffic for lunch, so they don't provide table service. You'll order with the cashier/bar tender, take a number and seat yourself. Lunch special lets you choose from protein (chicken, steak, tofu, etc) carb (rice, noodles, etc), and includes several veggies (squash, carrots, etc) only $7!! I chose to go for the Steak & Rice Bowl (which includes a fried egg). The mix of veggies, rice, and steak was so good! I like that I could choose to add soy sauce, fish sauce, salt, and siracha on my own. The steak was so tender, not at all dry, and still hot! Perfect! Atmosphere was pleasant, not at all loud, but enough that no one else can clearly hear what you say. I sat at the bar with my friend and made pleasant conversation with the bar tender. Happy hour runs daily from 4-7 PM but get there early because it gets packed very quickly and there aren't many tables - it's also first come, first serve. The food is delicious and portions are huge! I forgot to take pictures because I was so busy eating! It was very busy and our waitress wasn't the most attentive. I asked for sriracha several times to multiple waiters and only received it after the 3rd time I asked. My friends also had trouble flagging her down to order drinks too. I also felt they were passively aggressively trying to get us to leave - one person came and took an empty plate from underneath me I was eating over so I wouldn't spill and then came back and asked if we wanted to go boxes even though we were still eating.
