Was really excited to go to this steakhouse. Unfortunately the upscale prices didn't go with the food, tables or decor. Was really more of a dated cowboy place with plastic tablecloth's. Plating is not pretty. Ordered a steak med rare, it came out with a med rare "toothpick" but it was well. I asked for some Béarnaise sauce on the side and it was not good and it was gelatinous. I had veggies with mine and it was mushy yellow squash slices. My husband had salmon and mashed potatoes and he liked it. The best thing we had was a slice of coconut cream pie. read more

I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of our delicious steak dinner last night. We were so excited that Double LL is open again. We ordered the oak grilled 16oz T-bone. It has a great price and so delicious. We always ask to sit in the Remington room (I like the chairs better in that room...lol). We have revisited our favorite "upscale" restaurants post-Covid that used to be our favorites, and have been so disappointed to see they're dropping the quality of their meats. The food was terrible. Immediately, you can tell your steak and the rest of the meal is going to be a bust, by the way it looked when it arrived. I had the Cordon Bleu. My friend had a NY Steak. Both, no flavor - chicken was undercooked, skin burnt hard baked potatoes and let's just say, two bites in, and we were done. The meals were served with no flare which is fine but the hope is when you dig in it's going to be better than its displayed. Disappointment! The service was great as far as hospitality and the drinks were good. We had reservations and they sat us in a side room. The ambiance was like being in an old smelly country kitchen, eating on a wobbly card table with granny's plastic table cloths. They need a serious wipe down and sanitation sweep. For the price this place is not even close to worth it. My wife and I could have easily made a better meal at home she got the bacon wrapped fillet which was okay but nothing special. I got the salmon which was dry and flavorless. Our baked potatoes only came with butter and sour cream and were hard as a rock. We felt horrible for the employees as there was only a hostess and one server who was also the bar tender. They did their best and a remarkable job considering.The ambiance is extremely outdated and the chairs are in desperate need of replacing. We could have gone to a chain like Tahoe Joes (which we aren't the biggest fans of) and had a 1000% better experience. We were really looking forward to trying this place out after looking online. Unfortunately it missed big time on every level. Save your money and go somewhere cheaper or pay a little extra and go somewhere deserving of a price point such as this. read more

We've come here several times and the food and service are always good. Started off the night with the free garlic bread. Then the Firecracker Shrimp. It was delicious. A little spicy but not so hot everyone didn't enjoy it. A very light breading and perfectly seasoned and a surprisingly large serving. I didn't count but there must have been over a dozen shrimp. Then we had some of the best clam chowder ever, and I've had it all along the California coast and Boston. Rich, creamy, and tasty. Finally, the main course. By now I'm already getting full. I had the Grilled Halibut with mashed potatoes and white gravy. The potatoes were good, maybe a little above average, but the halibut was wonderful. Lightly seasoned, no sauce, so the full flavor of the fish shone through. My dad had the order of two pork chops which was way more than he could eat. Great steakhouse, highly recommend. I'm not wasting my time to go into detail after detail, but there were 15 of us, and mediocrity was the theme of the night. One laugh riot after the last. NOT. This place is pretty cool and if you are ever on Main Street in Visalia I highly recommend going. If you like drinking. My man and I were in Visalia for a family reunion about two weeks back. We came into town pretty late but heard that Main Street is the place to be on Friday night so we headed on down and this place looked pretty cool - as well as quieter than the hopping base coming from the other corner night clubs. Plus, we smoke and we saw that it had an outdoor smoking area. We walked in around 10:00 and it was not busy yet. Maybe 15 people or so. By the time mid-night hit the place was packed. The drink prices are not bad. The crowd is pretty young. We were probably the 2nd oldest people in there - LOL. I'd say the average age of people in this bar at this time was about 28 so be prepared for a younger crowd if you were born in the 80's. =) The outdoor patio was pretty awesome. You are able to smoke but not freeze to death by being forced outside. One of the bar tenders was a little crabby but I'm sure he was just having a bad night. I'd totally hit this place up again if I were looking to get drunk in Visalia. read more

Had reservation for dinner at 5:30 for our 50th anniversary. Not a soul in the place. Husband ordered the $69 special (steak that was 29 oz?). I ordered the T-bone ($33?). My steak had a couple good bites - I couldn't even eat the rest - too grizzled and overdone (I ordered medium rare). The rice pilaf was eh. Husband took some of his steak home. Very sad experience, food way overpriced and not good quality. We will never eat there again or recommend it to anyone. read more

We took my wife and family to the Double LL last night to celebrate her birthday. To say the meals did not meet the expectations established by the Double LL name and history would be generous to say the least. The host didn't have a clue when we asked about any beverages beyond the wine list being available. He had to go ask the bartender what they had available. Our waiter was not exceptionally attentive and the water glasses went empty 1/3 of the way through the appetizers and wasn't refilled until the end of our meal. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and they came out hot but kind of under cooked. The mini carafe my wine was brought out in looked like it hadn't been "scrubbed" and had a filmy pink stain on the glass. The grandkids had the chicken strips and they were cooked hard as a rock. They couldn't even eat them. Thank goodness for the fries. My wife and I ordered the 8 oz. bacon wrapped fillets with bernaise sauce on the side with baked potato. The vegetable of the day was a lukewarm stalk of broccoli. The burnt the bacon on the fillets and the bernaise sauce was a congealed mess in the small serving bowl. The deep fried shrimp that came with our steaks we're almost as over cooked as the kids chicken tenders. Every food item was over salted. Adding more salt doesn't make the food taste better. It was hard to pay a "Morton's or Ruth Crist Steak House" price for the food when you're sitting at tables and on chairs that look and feel like they came out of an IHOP. Not to mention the plastic tablecloths that look like they came out of Boss Hogg's in Farmersville... On a positive note the baked potatoes, side salads and clam chowder were good... read more

Price are crazy for Mediocre food. Broccoli is the only veggie served. Looking around it wasn't just my table. Soup was albondigas...interesting. Can't say I have ever seen that served at a steakhouse. Salad was watered down ranch. Bread seemed like someone smashed down garlic bread. The service was decent. Unfortunately this will be the LAST time we eat at Double LL. We went in with a group of 12, some came early and had drinks in the bar prior to the reservation time of 6. We were seated shortly after 6 and after checking out the menu we ordered appetizers and drinks. When it came time to order (about 7) the server announced that the kitchen had ordered that our plates had to have baked potatoe and salad with ranch. There was an issue with our reservation being at 6 conflicting with another later reservation...... I am PAYING, for my meal. It should be EXACTLY what I want. I never would have ordered potatoe skins as an appetizer. I really wanted a salad with the house dressing, it's my favorite item on the menu. This would not have been as frustrating if we were told at time of reservation or even upon arrival. read more

Double LL is a steakhouse that is not low in price, that being said, I was also led to believe through a colleague that this restaurant would be a good experience... Even with a reservation, we waited over 10 minutes for a host to even acknowledge us. We waited another 5-10 minutes to be seated only to find that the room we were seated in was completely empty. Beyond that, our table was broken, literally broken. I was paying $50 a plate to sit at a table that was broken. When scanning the room, the room looked like we were in a function hall and not a steakhouse. Beyond that, there was trash and silverware on the floor. When cleaning tables, they would grab the plates and not sweep up at all! I was so turned off at this point that I could have left at that moment. There was also no drink menu, you had to literally ask what was available. The food was average but not justified of charging nearly $50 a plate. Lastly, the bathrooms had zero changing tables! We had our child with us and nowhere to change him, our solution was to change him in the car. It was super upsetting. I must say, we would NEVER come back to this place. read more

Very dissatisfied. Splurged with my husband and went on a date here and it was very disappointing. We ordered two beers they had ice in them, I have never been served an IPA with ice floating in it. Then we ordered our dinner the steak was okay but I had to send my lobster tail back it was so stinky I got nauseous, it was also not cooked right very rubbery. When the waiter set my husbands food down the broccoli bush fell off on the table. We spent 140 dollars (not including tip) on what felt like the worst meal we have had. The waiter took the lobster tail price off my meal but I still paid 40 dollars for a small piece of Filet mignon. Very expensive for what you get. Would not recommend. read more

I was in downtown Visalia at the Marriott for work and went to this place one night for dinner. It is walking distance from the hotel. Upon our arrival, the host asked if we had a reservation since our group was of 6 but he checked tables quickly and let us know they had a spot for us. We arrived around 6 pm and didn't realize the place hadn't gone into full swing yet for dinner time. After being seated, you get a free basket of crispy, buttered bread while you wait for your entrees. A few of us ordered drinks and I was surprised to see my Jameson and ginger beer come in a full size glass. For my entree, I ordered the 10 oz. New York steak, the soup of the day and a baked potato. The soup of the day was chicken pozole and the broth had some good flavor so I was pleased with it. The baked potato only comes with butter and sour cream. I was hoping for the works but at this place you get the basics. If you're looking for vegetables, you're only gonna find broccoli here. Portions are huge and my steak was cooked pretty well. Other folks in my dinner party weren't as pleased with their food as one person ordered the chicken fried steak and another ordered the pork ribs. This place isn't anything fancy and is a pretty basic steakhouse, but I will say that they do cook one heck of a steak which was why the restaurant was quite busy upon us leaving. read more

Don't let the negative reviews prevent you from eating here. I used the local paper's coupon for a $14.95 ribeye steak dinner. It came with baked potato & a nice salad with crumbled blue cheese dressing. Garlic bread too. Now for the steak. Not a thick one but very tender and no steak sauce needed as it was cooked over oak. Much better than Sizzler or Tahoe Joe's & a great price. The regular prices on steaks are on the high side but most likely worth it. read more

This place used to be THE best place around. USED to be. Ordered a Big Daves Special (3 beef ribs, petite steak, half a chicken, mashed potatoes). Usually a really big and delicious meal, well a few years ago it used to be. Ribs were dry as all hell and bland. Chicken was dry as well and burnt, dont even start with "Its charred, cowboy style" nonsense. Ive cooked, chared, grilled chicken and have had it ever since i was a kid, this was burnt. Steak, lol- ive had better looking steaks from Denny's! My steak was indeed "petite" and GRAY! GRAY!!! for crying out loud!! Ya know that delicious bread EVERY Gat Dang Steakhouse in the entire USA has before dinner? You know, the one your 'Ol Lady fills up on and you dont say anything because that means shell be too full to eat her steak and you get it? Yeah, bread was garbage!! Looked like that generic crap you get at benifit spaghetti feeds, super gross. Ive been eating at this place since the early '90's and havent been here in like...I dont know, 2 years and holy crap!! My husbands words: Just seeing my plate brought a tear to my eye. The amount of food was unreal! I have never been served a quantity that large in my life. Gazing down at the beautiful meat trio, i thought to myself " what should I go for first." The steak called out to me so he was chosen. As I took that first bite, I felt myself floating.
