First time visiting the Palace for brunch and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere with modern style but relaxed feel. As we arrived early, we had our choice of picking our seating. So we chose to sit near the huge windows facing Porterville's Main Street. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. Our mains took a bit to get but our drinks and appetizer came out fairly quickly. The drinks we ordered were refreshing and fruity. Not too heavy on the alcohol but more than enough to definitely get a buzz. The steak bites were very tasty. Hearty and full of flavor with the balsamic glaze we chose. There is another option to pick a more savory option which is a garlic butter. Would definitely order again. The avocado toast was delicious, not shy of avocado and plenty of toppings. My only complaint would be for a more hearty and thicker sliced bread. Otherwise a good breakfast choice. The Cajun chicken pasta was amazing! Full of flavor, creamy, with a touch of heat and great house made pasta. The proteins were cooked perfectly. I was genuinely surprised that they serve their FULL dinner menu as part of their brunch menu. My wife and I will definitely return. read more

Honestly was really disappointed, I'd seen so many good reviews on google but it wasn't even all that. Barley getting seated and handed the menu and already getting asked what we wanted to drink, had no time to look over the drinks, almost felt like the server didn't wanna serve us. Another thing I thought was a bit weird was there no table wear on the tables and wasn't given any until the food came. Asked the server the type of mocktails they had and got told very rudely "well what do you want"?The food wasn't hot my sister ordered the steak, it wasn't how she wanted it cooked and her mashed potatoes were cold I ordered the Tuscan pasta and my father ordered the Cajun Pasta the flavor of the pasta it's self was good but the chicken was very salty. It was the first thing that hit the tongue. The mocktail I ordered was okay, I didn't even drink it just took a couple sips and kept drinking my water. Overall wouldn't come here again, might as well go to Applebees at least there the waiters aren't displeased to be serving us and the food is worth the price. Wish I could name the waiter but she didn't even introduce herself to us. The view of the restaurant was nice though. read more

Very very underrated place in Porterville! Food was super cost effective and good! They have a really good lunch special for $16 you can choose (2) a pasta, salad or sandwich. It is very cute inside and nice for brunch! They also have party rooms to rent for work or fun. Definitely coming back and would definitely recommend for locals. I've eaten here a few times before whenever I'm in Porterville but, no matter how many chances I give it, it never fails to disappoint. I met my friends there around 5:30pm on a Friday evening. However, given the time, it still wasn't too busy...which I should have taken as a warning. We were sat and the waitress came over and took our drink orders promptly, which was one highlight of the evening. However, after we were brought waters, it took a full 20 minutes to get our drinks (so 25 minutes after we were sat). I will concede that the cocktails were delicious (even if the same drink was given to us with different preparation when we ordered a second round). Once our drinks were delivered, we put in our order for food which consisted of 5 entrees and 2 appetizers. After 20 minutes (and already having finished our drinks) one of our appetizers, the roasted brussel sprouts, were delivered. Now, I had these on a previous visit and they weren't bad then! They were nice and crispy with a light balsamic glaze and pumpkin seeds. But this time? They were soaked in balsamic, which made them soggy and cold. There was literally no green to be seen on these...just a depressing brown. I had two as that was all I could stomach. The other appetizer that my friend ordered came out a WHOLE 20 MINUTES LATER. At this point I should also mention that I noticed that other tables received bread. However, we didn't get any at all. So the inconsistencies are piling up here. After another 20 minutes, we finally got our entrees. I had the 6oz filet with vegetables. Now, this is my usual go to order at many restaurants since it is hard to mess up...and yet the Palace found a way to do so. I ordered the filet medium rare but it was prepared "well done". Also, anyone that knows steak knows that you don't need to add much to them before you prepare them, just some salt & pepper and you're good. However, I believe that they add some unnecessary seasonings to the steak before they cook them (liquid smoke, A1, or something else). They have an odd taste that is seared into the exterior. I had a few bites but couldn't finish this as well. And, the steamed veggies that came with this meal were obviously from a Cisco bag...rather disappointing for a restaurant in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. After 2 hours, we were finally finished and asked for the check. Ultimately, what we received was a lack-luster experience and middling food that cost us well over $200. A couple came in after us with their child and left after a while since no one came to attend to them...we should have followed their lead. It is so unfortunate that this place is so bad because it has the best location in Porterville. Great views and right in the heart of downtown. I believe the biggest issue this place has is staffing. There were ONLY 2 waitresses that we saw on the floor and, mind you, this is a Friday evening...prime dinner rush. I think this place would benefit from hiring more people in the kitchen to expedite food and more wait staff on the floor to deliver drinks and food. This would also help with their numbers as they'd be able to turnover tables quicker (I mean, we were there for close to 3 hours...and we were trying to rush out). Also, I think they try to "elevate" the experience by jamming a bunch of unnecessary seasonings into their food. No! Just get local fresh ingredients and prepare them well...the flavor will take care of itself. I truly tried to give this place a shot...but this was the last straw. read more

Wait if we wanted a table and we told them that at 8 o'clock they stopped serving and she said oh well.. so next we decide to sit at the bar, there's three of us my mom Dad and I and it's now 830 and we haven't received one meal or thing to eat in the last hour and a half sitting here we barely have received drinks with water water. I get it, food is made to order, but I couldn't imagine if it had been busy. Once the food arrived (we ordered off the full menu), meals were small yet decent. One comment was "three could've been more than 4 prawns on the pasta", and my chicken caprese sandwich was flavorless. The salmon plate was mostly mashed potatoes. read more

My party of 6 plus an infant came here for lunch a few months back and we were the only customers at the time as they had just opened. The server was very rigid and rude which was a first since I've dined her numerous times before this poor experience. At the end of it all, we all split our checks and went on about our day. Come to find out, she charged us the 18% gratuity that's meant for parties of 8 or more. On top of that we each tipped her an additional amount. We only ever talked to her when she came by to check on us so it's not like we pestered her. We chose not to address the issue since we realized later but it was still very unfortunate to have to experience. read more

So a while later i received my chicken and it was super dry , the carrots were super hard . The zucchini was burnt but raw inside. The side salad I had ordered with my meal was literally brown .i had to pick out the brown pieces of lettuce I was so surprised the waitress even brought it out like that Tbh . The steak that we ordered was okay . It really sucks because I actually wanted to like this place. This was actually our second time giving this place a try . I love the vibes this place has . So much potential . Maybe the cook had a bad day that day . Came with my girlfriend to have an special date. The place was almost empty and our meal was somewhat disappointing. The Menu is not original at all, and is very limited. Drinks were ok, ambiance and decor are the same as the last owners left and they did put some nice flowers at the Entrance, very stylish! Hopefully the owners put some life into this nice establishment, live music, monthly events, delicious appetizers perhaps? Place sucks balls. they double booked us. I made a reservation to celebrate my sisters birthday, they later called asking me if i knew a (blank) gutierrez, that being my sisters name i said yes. when we got there they said there was another party in there with my sisters name saying it was her party. The lady's serving were very nice but they did take a bit to figure out the situation. They offered to move us to the dining room even though the other party had less people. Atmosphere was very uncomfortable and awkward. We decided to leave and not have to deal with the other people. Very bad management on their part (who ever took the call). Why wouldn't you confirm it with both people. Also we had a bigger party with us and their party wasn't even all there yet. Would rather go to applebees then have to deal with the awkward atmosphere and in top of that have to pay 20% added gratuity. I wish they had handled it better. The Palace is under new ownership, and changes are supposed to come. However, my recent experience here left much to be desired. Our bill was approximately $150 for a group of three. This included three entrees, an appetizer, one beer, a glass of wine, and two cocktails. There was no menu for kids or smaller portions. I ordered a New York steak at medium-rare; however, it was closer to medium-well. Aside from some grill marks, it was not seared, so it was mostly grey. Finally, nearly half of the steak (5oz at least) was a chunk of inedible fat. I would go somewhere else for the time being as I did not feel that steak dinner was worth $30. The wines are up-charged. 2020 Justin Cabernet Sauvignon's retails for around $20, and The Palace sells them for $48. Wine is up-charged significantly. On a positive note, my wife had one of their pasta dishes, which was great. The highlight of our dinner, however, was the service. The serving staff here are among the best in Porterville. Given enough time for some changes, I will likely return to try it again. However, as it stands, I would not recommend this place. read more

I ate at Palace for the first time yesterday. Dinner with a group of 9 friends. I'm going to stretch a bit and give them a 4-star for my first review. I do so because: - Nice atmosphere and setting. - Nice waitress. - Good and upscale menu. - The pasta is made there. Some of my concerns: - The service was slow. They were slammed with two very large parties, so it appeared to strain the staff. We were all visiting, so it was ok. - My pasta plate (Tuscan with chicken) sat a little too long, so the sauce got a bit stiff. But very good. - The salad entrees were either under or over dressed, but that is a personal preference. - The two people who had a great looking hamburger reported not cooked to their order. All these things as a result of the large parties. The food was still tasty and quality. The steak selections look quite good. That will be my next choice. I am told that the Palace is owned by the Vault owner. If correct, then issues will be corrected in time. One more thing. I think 20% automatic tip for groups 8 or more or separate checks is nonsense. Go there. read more

Ambiance is lovely. Date night feel. The bar and the cocktails they serve are high end. Food quality didn't quite match (my chicken sandwich was dry), but honestly, we ordered sandwiches. It's obviously a steak place and I have a feeling our food experience would have been elevated if we had gone for a full course dinner. Still, very good. No real meaningful complaints. We held our funeral reception here and we're pleased by the whole experience. The two different pastas, salad and bread served were excellent. The servers were attentive and friendly. By far the worst food experience I've had in Porterville. My wife and I were one of two tables in the place. Appetizer shrimp came out and you could smell they were rotten before they hit the table. Should have left then, but we wanted to give the place a chance. Chicken parm was hard and overcooked. The most bland sauce I've ever had. Two bites and couldn't even try more. Tequila lime chicken we believe was legit reheated sauce. You can 100% tell because the oil separates only when reheated. We left out waiter a 30% tip and paid for the meals. The waiter said the cook was sorry for the rotten shrimp. Wild. We had to go grab a burger from a fast food joint on the way home. I didn't ven want to leave a review. But it was horrible.
