Still sampling the many highly rated Chinese restaurants in my neighborhood. Tonight it was takeout from Har Sing. A rather simple order for three people of three dishes. My wife is a fan of honey chicken, and the reviews that I read online spoke highly of it. This dish did not disappoint at all. Lightly breaded unlike so many Chinese restaurants where you have to dig for the chicken through a very starchy coating. This was delicious moist chicken breast with a light and tasty breading. The honey sauce was in a separate container, which was nice as the food arrived. Still crispy and delicious. We all enjoyed this dish immensely. The second dish we ordered was called Four Seasons, presumably for the four proteins which were chicken, pork, shrimp, and beef. The shrimp was described as Jumbo shrimp but calling them jumbo would be a stretch and the fact that they were difficult to even find in the dish as I think there were only two or three total. The beef and chicken were cooked reasonably, but the pork must've been cooked a while before the dish and was so tough and difficult to chew that I gave up and threw it out. The vegetables were overcut as well and were soggy and essentially tasteless. Exact opposite of the honey chicken this is a dish that I could never recommend. Lastly was the shrimp fried rice. There were a fair amount of shrimp although they didn't seem to be well distributed to the rice and all seem to be near the top of the container. That may have been coincidence. The rice itself was a bit salty otherwise had virtually no flavor. It was very disappointing. Overall, the delivery was quick and the honey chicken was superb. The rest of the meal was not memorable and there are too many places with better overall food for me too risk another disappointment by ordering from there again. I don't eat Chinese food much but was craving honey garlic chicken. Found this place and liked it, the honey garlic chicken was fantastic and came crispy and warm. The sauce was light and delicious. I ordered Family B package which On the menu it states large size of the sides however they came in quart size packaging. Not only was it in quart size package but the general Tsao chicken container was half full with onions and the other half chicken. Honestly, I don't know what's up with these negative reviews. I ordered the sweet & sour chicken and let me tell you this! It was plump, hot, fresh, crispy, and just damn right. I love they have the option to order an extra sauce so I ordered Honey garlic sauce. The food went to another level. And this is coming from a picky eater when it comes to Chinese cuisine. My husband was craving Chinese and We've been wanting to try GarSing based on review. I suppose that based on said reviews, we were expecting much more. First of all, ordering by phone was rushed. But I find it to be the same at most Chinese places... "Is that all? 45 minute." Click. We ordered the Family Pack A plus an additional lg Special Fried Rice and an order of pork Fried Wontons. The food was good albeit salty. They must go heavy on that MSG. We found TWO shrimp in the container of Special Fried Rice. Other than that, it was tasty. The chicken was odd. The texture was weird and the breading was kind of sweet. The Crab Rangoons contained maybe a teaspoon of cream cheese, no crab meat. Imitation or otherwise. They did not provide crunchy noodles for the soup. And no fortune cookies! Big disappointment for our grand baby. :) All in all, it wasn't bad, but we weren't impressed. I have been patronizing this establishment for two years and from the onset the female business owner has had issues when interacting with me. I've constantly overlooked her horrible demeanor and lack of gratitude for my patronage, but last weeks incident was enough to have me write this review. Mind you I waited 9 days before writing this to assure that the evaluation was fact based and not an emotional response to perceived poor and negative attitude. I called in an order at approximately 8:30 pm for pickup of a large Won-Ton soup; she asked if I wanted anything else, when I responded 'no thank you', she slammed the phone on me disconnecting the call. Upon arriving for my order I gave her my credit card, to which she stated, 'next time you order at least 10 dollars or I won't take your order'! I apologized and told her, ' I am sorry, if you would have advised me of that I would have ordered something else as well'. I understand there must be a lot of pressure and concern for income especially since dining in isn't available at this time but you can't treat customers like this, the bottom line is that without customers your business will eventually falter even more. My bill was $4.63 and I left a 6.00 tip to meet the $10 minimum requirement; but my surprise and her payback would soon be discovered when I arrived home. As I removed the container from the bag at home I realized the depth of her animus-- she had placed a small order of won ton soup in a large container and just filled the rest with soup broth! To say Gar Sing will no longer see any of my business is an understatement; regardless of how good the food may be, her attitude and lack of respect overshadows the quality of their food! So I am updating my review as I believe hat customer service is everything. And well, yesterday, was horrible. We went there for takeout, the owner lady was on the phone sitting on the table when we got there, she then got up and went behind the counter. She continued to be on the phone, she asked me if I was ready and in hand signals I told her that I had questions snout the family menu. She continues to be on the phone. No one sleds cane to see if they can help out even though knowing that the lady was busy on the phone. After a few minutes she glanced at me and I whispered how many people does it serves, with her no expression face she points at the fact that the menu says 3 spring rolls, 3 etc. I was getting upset. And the customer service was horrible. I then told my husband let's leave she is not being helpful and I am not getting the assistance I want. If you are business owner, you need to provide customer service to your customers. How else do you want repeat customers if they gave a bad experience the first time. Admittedly, I wouldn't have given this spot a second thought had takeout and delivery not become the way to go over the past months. I would've made a huge mistake, too, because I don't think I've ordered a single dish from this spot that isn't fire. Every single dish we've ordered arrives piping hot, fresh and delicious. All of the standard Chinese-American dishes you expect to see are here, and all of them are wildly good. Their portions are super generous too, and they used to have some wildly cool deals--for example, if you ordered more than X amount, they'd send you like an 8 pack of meat wontons and crab rangoons for free; that was a good deal. Not sure if they still have it. Ask, maybe. We can personally vouch for their chicken lo mein, honey garlic chicken and General Tso's chicken, as well as each of their fried rices (particularly pork and the house special). I also love their curry chicken. Gar Sing is currently my favorite Chinese food in the West Kendall area. Is it considered Kendall? I don't know- but it's good I like that their food always tastes fresh! It's also nice how they always throw something in for free in our orders- it adds a nice little touch and sometimes we get to try something new! Now you may think I'm exaggerating but I am not kidding when I say I grabbed some of their business cards and am passing it out to friends and family. This is the only Chinese food I eat in Miami since I've tried it, they set a standard. For specifics: I always try the fried rice; it's a staple food for Chinese restaurants so it sets some expectations on what's to come. Now if you hadn't realised, I love me some Chinese with the cute little boxes, so I've tried a lot of places. The fried rice is always the same in those places, kind of bland. Almost like they all cook from the same kitchen and deliver it to each Chinese restaurant in Miami, like a Chinese Rice Cult. But these people said NO! This is GAR SIIIIING kicking off all the lower rice bowls down into the pit of blandness (true story). The rice was phenomenal, I could taste the meat as it burst into its beefy juices and the scallions dancing around on the fresh eggs. The bean sprouts had a crunch to them I had only had in my trip to rural Japan. It's hard to believe but these people actually used spices and fresh vegetables to make their rice. It felt like it was made fresh off the wok. Each dish I ordered was greeted with a smile from the cooks and a gaping open mouth from me. The Beef Lo Mein is juicy and the vegetables from the Egg Foo Young formed a medley in my mouth as the egg conducted the orchestra. Now on to my favourite dish, the egg drop soup. As if a drop of the Chinese God's nectar fell upon my bowl. The depth of this dish is unfathomable. I'm not just building it up, this truly is the best egg drop soup I have ever had. It put the egg in egg drop soup. I cannot recommend this place anymore, If you enjoy good food in any way, it is your DUTY to go to Gar Sing. You may meet me there as I have quickly become a regular. I just recently moved back to West Kendall and I've been exploring different restaurants in the area. I ordered a ham fried rice, chicken and broccoli and pork fried wontons. Everything was absolutely delicious! The ham fried rice was so flavorful that I did not have to add any condiments to it. The chicken and broccoli was light and had great flavor as well. The pork wontons had a good amount of pork in them and was also very tasty. The delivery was also fast than expected! I ordered my food on Grubhub and it was here within 25 minutes. I ordered and have been ordering from this place for a while today was my last order. The lady that runs the place acted as if she is doing me a favor. I have had issues with her in the past no, thank you no sense of urgency, when you are standing behind their plexi glass as if they are protecting themselves from everyone. They now have a small slot in the bottom of the front door which they do their exchanges through almost like you see in the movies where they dispense food to inmates in prison. I understand covid is an issue, but I have not heard of it affecting peoples attitude and nor have I heard of it being more contagious to say a simple thank you. Even before covid this restaurant had good Chinese food but a bad attitude. I simply went there because it was convenient, but I will drive a few more miles to be treated w respect. I ordered over the phone today for pickup. I arrived and was told it would be ready in 30 min upon arrival I was told to wait in my car. Last order I place. This place was meh. The main thing it had going for it was that it was extremely clean for a Chinese takeout type of place. It's really just a glorified Chinese takeout place with 6 tables. The lady wasn't friendly at all, barely acknowledged us when we walked in and basically put the food down on the table and walked away. Not sure where the caring friendly women went......... seemed like we were in her way and that we were bothersome for coming in to eat. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. I'm so terribly disappointed. We ordered Family Pack A. We are two adults and two children and it barely fed the four of us. The wonton soup was so salty it was inedible. The fried rice had great flavor and was fresh, but wasn't even filled to the rim or packed in to the carton. The honey chicken literally had eight pieces. The special lo mein was just noodles. No vegetables or meat in them, and the broccoli with beef had rice small slivers of beef and was basically just broccoli. I have eaten here before and the food has always been delicious and the portions were generous. Now the portions are non existent. It's sad when such a good place is ruined by greed. Very delicious food, it was late and I just swung by this establishment just expecting some basic Chinese food but I was wrong. Their food is fresh and crispy (if you ordered something of course that is suppose to be crispy haha) I had the honey garlic chicken and it was actually fresh chicken not something that you take a big bite of breading or anything it was crispy and soft.
