Compassion and love is how I would describe this practice during my dog's life, then came the time my dog was at the end of his life. Tooth abbesses, knees that would dislocate, a tumor in his throat and cancer in his lymph nodes. This vet was the one who delivered the sad news to me. I took my dog home, considered my options and made an appointment to put him down. My dog was suffering and I couldn't allow that to continue. For two weeks, my dog got all the snacks he really wouldn't get normally. We loved on him profusely. I held Newton in his favorite blanket while the vet injected the medicines and Newton slowly went to dog heaven. The entire staff was loving and compassionate. We got him cremated and a picture of our dog "the show thief" in his urn. They took the time to send a condolence card. I can't say enough good things about them. read more

Double Oak Veterinary is a great place to take all your fur babies. my dog Ruby is like my child and when I take her to Dr. Woods and his staff, I feel like they treat her as if she is their own. Ruby has been going to Double Oak Vet for 3 years and i would never switch. Diedra who has been answering phones since I started, to the vet techs and the doctors always give you the warmest of welcomes. I don't feel that they are out to gouge you with costs and are there to give you the best of choices. Also the groomer Sarah is amazing. I have a golden doodle, who is so hard to groom. she shampooed, did a blow-dry, haircut, nail trim and her teeth brushed for $85. it was such a bargain because Ruby looked beautiful and smelled so beautiful. I recommend giving a tip to the groomer because she does such a great job and the cost is minimal. please try her out. Double Oak is a one stop shop for your fur babies. read more

This was a heartbreaking and horrible experience. It was an emergency situation where our bleeding pup was in need of help. We were turned away from them-their exact words were: "we don't have the staff nor time to take care of her". We will never come back here, don't waste your time! If your animal has an physical injury, I definitely do not recommend this vet! This was the first time a vet turned me away and refused to help my pup. I have known Dr Wood for more 25 years. He is one of the most decent, honorable men on this planet. In addition I have always had registered labs. For many years he took care of them but double oaks, once that beautiful facility was established was far away. So I have been to a number of other community vets as well. We met Dr. Wood at a feed store in Plano where he was giving low cost pet vaccines and liked him so much that we left our vet and began taking our dog to Double Oak Veterinary Medical Center. He was able to properly diagnose our dog's illness instead of just treating the symptoms. It turned out that he had untreatable cancer and we had to put him down. We are grateful for the care and kindness shown to us by Dr. Wood and his staff during such a difficult time. I actually use a few different vets. But, this clinic has shown me over and over just how much they care. Unfortunately my last 3 visits have been for end of life care. They cared for my 2 cats and 1 dog as though they were their own and often stayed late so I could come by and visit after hours. I care for a feral cat colony at my office and one of "my" cats had a litter of kittens last week. I knew as I was dialing the different rescues that no one would be able to help. But I called DO Vet and they didn't even hesitate. Bring them in they said we can care for them and find them good homes! I just about cried. 3 kittens saved from a very short life on the street. I took my German Shepherd in multiple times and explained to them that he needed to be muzzled because he had a lot of anxiety and I was there in the process of getting him fixed. I'd been multiple times and everything went well, but the day I took him in for his actual procedure, they came out minutes later with multiple leashes mangled around his neck and face. They were practically dragging him around and pushed him towards me. They took his body harness AND muzzle off leaving themselves NOTHING to handle him with, THEN tried to sedate him. Amazing logic, they told me he was too aggressive and too much to handle yet didn't explain why they took his muzzle and harness off before sedating him. I honestly wonder how they treated him while o was outside waiting. I then rescheduled with another vet in Denton and they haven't had a singular problem with him since and have never made me feel like my dog is a monster. He's gotten fixed, gotten shots, and treated for an ear infection there and hasn't had a problem. I'm so disappointed and disgusted after seeing the difference in how me and my dog were treated at this vet VS the vet in Denton. read more

The pungent smell of animal urine overpowers this facility. Sure, we should expect this type of smell at a vet clinic but not to this degree. Nasty. In addition, they refused to give us a prescription to buy our pet meds online or elsewhere at a discounted price and pretty much insisted that we buy directly from them at their price. AMAZING HOSPITAL AND DOCTOR!!! Several years ago we took our beloved dog, Jet, to Double Oak Animal Hospital after seeing he was collapsing and was unable to eat or go to the bathroom. We had just moved from Florida to Lewisville and were recommended Double Oak by several neighbors. Jet was ten years old and we became very concerned. We rushed Jet to your hospital where, one of the medical associates, immediately rushed out to help my husband bring Jet into one of the exam rooms. Dr. Wood did a full through exam of Jet and saw he was in real distress and having seizures, we decided the best thing for Jet was to put him to sleep. As devastated as we are at the loss of our wonderful, sweet child, we cannot thank the staff at Double Oak for taking an extremely difficult and traumatic situation and making it a little more bearable. I worked for several years in different animal hospitals in Los Angeles, and know how difficult it is for people in this situation. To reviewer Shay M. - Our animals are our children, and we love them so much, and it is hard when we lose them. But it is not the animal hospital's fault that your animal passed, it was just your animals time. I found Dr. Wood so kind and concerned, and as I said I worked in other animals hospitals over the years as a tech, and this hospital is about as state of the art as you can get! Most doctors would have just tried to get you to do all sorts of unnecessary tests and things just to prolong the enevitable...I was thankful this hospital was straightforward with us. To be honest, I read some of the other reviews and they were just so shameful! People who cannot handle the smell of animals...should not have animals! This facility was immaculate and clean! Dogs and cats have smells...deal with it! Double Oak takes in dozens of strayed and orphaned animals, two of our cats came from them, to help them get adopted... I cannot commend them more for all they do! We can't thank enough, the wonderful Dr. Wood and his staff for their kindness and understanding. These are the people you want to be with you and your pet at such a hard time. All of our animals, two dogs and three cats, have now seen Dr. Wood for a years. I researched many local vets in the Lewisville / Highland Village / Flower Mound area before coming to Double Oak Veterinary. I have been using them for 6 months for my 3 big dogs, and have been consistently pleased with the service and pricing. They are far less expensive than other vets in the area (e.g., Dr. Doolittle's), and their facility is brand new and very nice. I have seen Dr. Wood as well as other doctors there. They genuinely care about their patients and do a fantastic job. I have boarded two of my dogs there as well. read more

I have taken my dogs to Double Oaks for a couple of years now. They have a great cat groomer there and we were referred by my in-laws. I always use the Lewisville mobile vet for routine annual shots and then use this vet office for any other issues. The staff has always been nice, but not super caring or welcoming. This past Saturday I took my dog in for an emergency appointment because I thought she had eaten some tissues from the trash on Thursday and wasn't eating or moving very well. Dr. Wood prescribed some anti nausea and cramp pills, gave her some shots of those for immediate relief, some water injections, and some soft food to take home. He told me to watch her and if she wasn't better by Monday (Labor Day), then to take her to the emergency hospital. Well, Sunday morning we found her outside just relaxing in the grass (which she never did) and I brought her back inside. All day I struggled with should I take her now or not to the er? Sunday night, I was sitting with her in the floor and had her head on my lap and she looked up at me and let out all of her air and passed away. She was 9 years old and her stomach was full and bloated. We took her body to the er hospital for cremation that night and they told us that you should never wait out an obstruction. I went back to talk to Dr. Wood today and at first he thought I wanted to know exactly why she died. I told him that 's not why I was there because that doesn't matter now and I just want her back. I was there to let him know that HE told me to wait until Monday, and that was obviously not the right thing to do. He gave me a credit for the dog food and remaining pills that I returned and that was it. His way of consoling me was to tell me stories of how he's had to put his own cats to sleep, how his brother passed away from an ulcer, and other examples of other dogs being sick. Really? I don't care about all of that. I'm not happy with how all of this happened. My dog was a healthy 9 year old and she's left me too soon. Our kids and other dog are not taking this well either...how do you explain to them that she was fine and jumping around on Thursday, but on Sunday she's no longer with us? I won't be returning to this office. Not only did I get very poor advice when I trusted a professional...but they also don't have any equipment to do any xrays, endoscopes, or even refer you to the er hospital immediately because they don't have the right equipment. They are fantastic care givers, taking the time to explain everything to us, and they show us that they obviously care for our girls (cats). They are always willing to help us with their health issues, and are always so kind when they do. We have older cats, so they require extra care. Dr. Wood gave us the knowledge and tools to help one of our kitties live to be 20 years old, and his care of our other cats is nothing but phenomenal. His staff shares his heart and they've always been so incredibly sweet to us, going far, far above and beyond to ensure our cats are well-cared for. Have been going here for several years. Last month took my 15 month old dog in for his rabies vaccination. He had gotten a one year vaccine as a puppy, was due for his three year as an adult. Dr. Wood gave him a one year vaccine (stated on certificate I was given) instead of the three year and did not discuss why with me. I didn't realize until I got home. I called the clinic and asked for him to call me to tell me why he did that and he didn't ever call me back. Will be going elsewhere. I brought my cat in to be declawed.Whatever they did to him left one of his toes bleeding freely for four days. They charged me almost $500 ( for what my old vet in Lubbock charges $120), kept him overnight for four days (my last cat was running and playing the same day she had hers taken), and he had to wear a cone for two weeks. I've never written a yelp review before, but my experience at Double Oak Vet has prompted me to do so. My dog had knee surgery there last week. After spending thousands of dollars for the surgery, the vet tech presented us with a bill for three post-op medications. We told her that we get our vet drugs at Costco because it is cheaper. They offered to call in only one of the medications. When we politely told her they carry the others at Costco and we showed her the Costco app with the medications listed, she said they were "black market" pills and Dr. Wood would not approve that. If we wanted the pills, we had to purchase them at Double Oak Vet. We told her that Costco doesn't sell black market pills and that we could have them call the clinic to explain. She ran off to the back to check with Dr. Wood. A minute later, Dr. Wood slammed through the door and charged at me as I was standing at the receptionist desk trying to pay for the other two medications. He was inches from my face as he yelled at me at how ungrateful I was and that I was to "never, ever come to the clinic again." He slammed his hand on the counter a few times as he yelled. It truly scared me. I must have been visibly shook up because the receptionist apologized and said he shouldn't have slammed his fist and yelled at me like that. I still am not sure what prompted his behavior. I only asked politely about the medications. I am still replaying this in my head. I have never been treated with so much disrespect from a vet. read more

We have been taking our dogs (babies) to Dr. Wood and his team at Double Oak for over 10 years. Our first dog is 14 years, 2nd dog is 12 years old. The team have always been spot on with diagnosis and treatments and I like the accessibility of clinics around where we live for the annual shots. Worst clinic ever. I have 2 dogs and have been a dog owner all my life (40 years). This is the worst clinic I have ever been to. 1. Horrible smell. There are cats roaming everywhere and the whole place reaks of cat urine. I have never had this issue at any other vet. 2. Uncaring. They just do not seem to care about anything accept getting you an appointment and making money. I have never had a vet clinic treat me like this. They are impersonal and they almost seem aloof. 3. My dog was diagnosed with hypothyroid in December. They put him on a thyroid medication. He was severly allergic with diarrhea and blood within 5 days of being on this medication. I called to ask the vet to call me. They wanted me to make an appointment to bring him in (more money) eventhough he had just been there days before in order to do blood work to get this diagnosis. I asked for the vet to please just call me so we could talk about trying him on Armour (a totally different type of thyroid med). She NEVER called! So, I started him on a natural thyroid supplement from my healthfood store, which has been helping him for a few months, but I just called the vets again and asked about putting him on Armour and they want him to come back for blood work again! REALLY! The vet would not even speak with me over the phone!! I know it has been a couple of months. But, honestly they could call him a low dose of Armour and let him try it and then I can take him in for follow up after he is on it for a month. I think it is silly that they cannot just let him try it since they already know he has a thyroid issue and they know his weight, etc. I have never had a vet clinic treat me like this! I had a dog years ago who had addisons and the vet we used (in Ohio) never had a problem with talking to me over the phone. Angel Vet in Flower Mound has never treated us like this. I am going back to VCA (Angel Vet in Flower Mound). It is clean and they care and are respectful. Oh and when Double Oak Vet did the blood work, she had said she would call me by that Friday and no call. Finally on Tuesday I called to follow up, since it had been a week! They told me his vet was out of the office till Wednesday and they would not tell me over the phone what the blood work report showed. They would not even have another vet talk to me. They told me I would have to wait till she was back in the office on Weds. BAD customer service! read more

Last chance. Boarding in the kennels is hot and smelly. Appears not clean. The online option to view your pet/s, and for which there is extra boarding charge, has not functioned in 2 years. Always an excuse. My dogs were to be shampooed on the last day of their stay. I asked the tech and he remarked that he thought they were bathed 2 days prior. But they smelled like strong urine and I had to bathe them when they got home. Very expensive fees and boarding and incompetent staff. No more. read more

I found them to be very careless in the way that they allowed the office cats (at least 5 of them) to roam freely in the front lobby. Even after they saw another patient and their dog very distressed, they had to be asked to remove the cats before they realized it was a problem. I saw after the lady and her dog were taken back to the exam room, they took the cats back out and allowed them to roam freely again (knowing the dog was going to have to come back out!!). I was there with a sick cat and didn't appreciate my cat being threatened by being surrounded by so many loose cats while he was sick. I feel they put those cats in danger -- what if that dog got freaked out and got away from his owner???? By the way, another vet recently told me my cat has feline leukemia which is extremely contagious to other cats. I sincerely hope Dr. Wood did not expose all those office cats to this deadly disease with his carelessness. I'll never take my cat back there again -- they are just too careless. read more
