I live walking distance from Double Play Pizza, calling an order to be picked up on the way back from picking up a video is nice. As a pizza joint, they're an easy four stars. Our favorite is meatball, mushroom, black olive, and garlic The garlic cheese sticks make for great dipping into anything. All the other 4 star reviews below are also very valid. I give them the extra star to support a locally owned business that I'm happy to give my dining dollars to. If you have a choice to make, why not support with your dinning choice someone's neighbor who's hands on running his own business instead of an absentee franchise owner and their 30-minutes reputation. This place has been around for most of my childhood and I can honestly say that it's one of my favorite pizza places. I think their cheese pizza is great, but their Thai pizza is from another world. My wife and I have lived in Camarillo for years, been to the Von's on Mission Oaks Blvd possibly a thousand times, but had never tried Double Play. It's kind of tucked away and doesn't really catch your eye. We finally gave them a try. The pizza is great, nice dough, cooked well, flavored well, and with fresh toppings. We also enjoyed the garlic cheese bread and the spicy wings. You can tell that they care about the food they prepare. They are locally owned and operated which is a huge bonus for us. Support your local business owners and community! We have ordered from all of the usual pizza spots in Camarillo over the years, but this is the one we will call moving forward. Been eating this pizza for years! Pizza has a mild syrup taste to the crust and it is delicious! It is conveniently located in a large shopping center with ample parking. Food is fast and fresh. I recommend take out because the seating area is extremely limited. Pizza is pricey and it can get expensive. Try the pizza but make sure you look at the price before ordering. read more

While the delivery was fast, the food left a bit to be desired. The wings are pretty good, the mozzarella sticks are decent - not great, and the pizza crust left a lot to be desired. Most of the prior reviewers mentioned the short-comings of the Double Play Pizza. Sorry, but the crust touted on the window probably is one step up from the box it came in. Replacing the sauce with Hunts canned tomatoe sauce could be an improvement. Toppings were pricy and skimpy. Cheese was hard to find and poorly distributed. Perimeter crust was naked amd bpardered pm birmt. They are FAST but that is probably because there was no one in the store when I ordered or when I picked up after a run to the neighboring Vons. I won't come back for this pizza at any price but $18 and change for this lackluster disaster was disturbing. This may seem harsh, but if someone does not tell the truth, this place is history. To make this lukewarm, mediocre pizza even more disappointing was the bad taste left after the delivery person showed up without a mask during a pandemic. I'm visiting this area from out of state to take care of a sick relative who is IMMUNE COMPROMISED. I ordered delivery to avoid exposure and had prepaid over the phone, hoping the pizza would simply be left at the door, but was caught off guard when I opened the door and realized I still had to sign for it and had no choice but to interact more closely and longer than I felt comfortable with. During this exchange, the maskless delivery person yipped hooray over "red to yellow". She was friendly enough, but she assumed I would understand what she was talking about. I had no idea. She told me "the schools are opening up!" Well OK I thought to myself -- that's sure great if its safe, but does that mean masks are unnecessary now -- even around food? During dinner, this episode caused me to wonder about the politics of the people who own and work at this business -- if they are being safe in their personal lives and if proper pandemic protocol was taken seriously where and when this pizza was prepared. This pizza was not delivered by a third party delivery service, so this maskless person was most likely physically in the restaurant, if not the kitchen itself. read more

This is a friendly neighborhood pizza joint. I walk past the front door of the establishment, gesture at the owner and continue walking to Vons to pick up some grocery's. By the time I get back to Double Play, she has my pizza ready and the drinks pulled. It feels good supporting the mom & pop shops in the neighborhood. For years I have driven by this place but never eaten from here, but today I gave it a shot and man I was not dissapointed, the gentleman working there was very polite and patient in my choosing what in wanted on my pizza. I am not a frequent customer but I do get cravings for the Double Play flavor. It is a unique pepperoni taste and I always enjoy it. A little greasy but I like greasy. The sandwiches are good too but I have only had the italian sub but they put lettuce on it. Lettuce and hot sandwiches do not mix. They have cool sodas like Dad's root beer and original Dr. Pepper, which is fun. The service could be a little friendlier. There was one dude who didn't say a word to me when my food was done. We love this place! The pizza is great (something about their crust is really wonderful, but I can't quite figure out what makes it so special). We always get the Mediterranean pizza with chicken added, but all the other pizzas we've tried have been delicious as well. But the best thing about this family owned restaurant is the service. We usually order delivery and the gentleman who delivered our pizza this last time (I think he's the owner) remembered that the time before I had asked for him to not ring the bell because our baby was sleeping. So just to be safe, he only knocked this time too. That's the type of personal service and attention you get from this place! Amazing!! I work at the Vons in the same plaza and I go to Double Play sometimes for lunch. They have a great lunch special which I usually get; this includes a personal pizza (1topping--wish there were two but you have to pay $0.99 which is a bit much) and a salad and a drink. I like this better than your average pizza chain and would recommend to those on a budget for lunch read more

This is my favorite pizza in Camarillo. I've been getting it about once a week for the last three years. Despite what others have said, I love their thin crust. It's thin, but still soft, chewy, and delicious. Plus, I can tell from how it tastes and how I feel that they don't use extra fat on the crust, which makes this much healthier than the average pizza. Their mushrooms are the best I've ever had. They cook the mushrooms longer than the pizza, which releases the full flavor from them. All of their toppings are always fresh and perfect. I would recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone who loves pizza but doesn't want extra fat in their diet. read more
