Updating my review from a year ago just to say how much I love my hair!!! Since my last 2020 review, I've visited another time in May 2021 and once more November 2021, both for balayage touch ups with King. I leave Double Q so happy with my hair every time. He is so meticulous with his work and it always comes out better than I even envisioned it lol. My hair isn't dried out or damaged even from all the bleaching because he takes care of it so well. I don't trust anyone else with my hair because King knows exactly how to style/cut it for me without me asking for too much detail. The color lasts a really long time and grows out so beautifully that people on the streets compliment my hair even when it's been 6 months! HIGHLY recommend trusting Double Q & King to take care of your hair!!
I cannot recommend Double Q highly enough, seriously. This salon is a godsend. I've struggled to find stylists who can dye dark hair without bleach - but the experts at Double Q know what they're doing. I made an appointment for 11 a.m. and was matched with my stylist Sunny who definitely took the time to understand my vision. I wanted to avoid bleach at all costs, and I didn't think we could get the red color I wanted without bleaching. But Sunny made it happen. The dye was left on my hair longer than they do at most salons - around 1.5 hr - and it really paid off. I also got 4-5 inches trimmed, and Sunny was able to fix my DIY quarantine bangs (thank you for that lol). Sunny even styled my hair before I left. In terms of COVID safety, I was temperature checked and sprayed down with sanitizer at the door. I was fully masked the whole time, as was everyone else there. It was a bit busier than I anticipated, although for a Sunday morning not entirely surprising. If you want to color your hair, you're in excellent hands with Sunny and Double Q. It's been almost a week and I still can't get over how well my hair turned out. I'm obsessed!
This is a long overdue review but I've been slacking on here ya'll. But I just really have to write a review for King who did my hair such justice. Upon entering, I was sprayed with disinfectant and taken my temperature. Sanitized my hands and was led the way. Booked a balayage coloring service with King in October 2020, and I have been obsessed with my hair since. He listens well, patient, and is kind. He worked with me to achieve the color I wanted. The blend and color tone was just where I'm going. And the haircut? I didn't even have to try to describe it or explain much... it's like HE JUST GETS ME! He gave a cut that works with the type of hairstyles I've always been doing lately; low buns, high messy buns, pony tails, all with little hair piece fringes and bangs pulled out, and wavy curls. The haircut is seriously just perfect I just can't describe it but I'm seriously in love. It works perfect with how I want to style my hair. King is the best, thank you so much!!
I just had an AMAZING cut and color done by Sunny yesterday! I told Sunny that I just wanted my hair to look less basic but was quite indecisive about what exactly I wanted, and he was super patient with me and helped guide me towards a cut and color that I ended up LOVING! It is perfect for my style. The color is very vibrant, yet my hair still feels healthy and nourished after all of the processing. The salon is very sanitary, they take temperature and disinfect upon arrival, all customers and employees wear masks properly, and the salon is also huge and very spaced out. Also, I was a bit worried during my appointment because I had to hop on a conference call for work, but my hair wasn't done lightening yet so I couldn't leave the salon- Sunny assured me that it was no bother for me to attend my conference call from the salon and even helped me connect my laptop to their wifi so that I could do all of my work I appreciated this gesture so much- the staff is truly so thoughtful, caring, and accommodating. I cannot recommend Double Q enough for their incredible customer service and styling! I will definitely be back!
Booked an appointment at Double Q with King and I had an amazing experience! He was super helpful and patient when I was deciding what I wanted to do with my hair, offering his advice and input to make sure what I was getting is what I had in mind exactly. I already had some hair that I had bleached myself at home and my hair was also pretty damaged from a previous perm I've had at a different salon earlier in the year so King was walking me through what would be possible outcomes with my hair and how to get it to be as healthy as it could be. The entire process took around 7 hours from start to finish and King was super thorough the entire time, making sure everything was working smoothly. Not only was he super meticulous about his work, but he was also super pleasant to talk to! He definitely makes sure you feel comfortable during all the hours and that helps make the time so much more bearable. The end results were way beyond my expectations and King managed to not only make my hair not only look exactly like what I imagined, but also look 10x healthier than it did when I walked into the salon. I will definitely be returning to King soon for a touch up! :)
updatess i always go to King bc he knows whats UP. I wanted to go brown, but he said why not try platnium? like ok im not arguing with that. once u enter the store they shower you down, and the place is always clean. temp was taken, masks ON ALWAYS! I love that now they take payment through zelle as i never carry cash on me. King remembers my hair journey and knows where ive been and where i want to go so obviously why go to anyone else!! he made sure my scalp wasnt burnt and lightened my hair gemtly, as i was already blond, to make sure my hair isnt too damaged after. my hair is FRESH AND WHITE AND IM READY TO BLEND IN WITH THE MAYBE PROB NOT SNOW!! best hair tip after bleaching: listen 2 kings words. do not wash your hair for 2 days. you need your natural hair oils to come back and them toner to do its job. afterwards do a deep conditioner (i use aussie 3 min miracle) and leave on overnight or 3 hours depending on your mood. after thar u should be good to go!! location is also great bc theres coffee around the corner !!!
I booked an appointment with King to get my hair bleached and toned -- it came out so so dope and the service was amazing! Everybody was professional and I loved how each of the stylist helped each other out with the services.... While one was coloring or helping out another, another would jump in and shampoo. I liked the flow of their teamwork! This was my first time at this salon and working with King. He was excellent and professional: he was punctual (on-time), the salon was clean and well maintained, the music vibe was chill, they had excellent procedures and precautions with Covid-19 and the overall customer service from ALL of the staff was amazing, I felt welcomed and at home! King himself, had a very cool and chill energy -- I like his vibe, he's a cool dude and I'll definitely be back!
Haven't done my hair for 8 months, I came in yesterday with a dry/weird color transition/random highlights hair, but only to be saved by KING!! I have a pretty vague expectation for the hair color, brownish/ashy grayish/professional but still cool for my workplace etc etc but he found exactly what I want! It's always hard to sit through the six hours (and for him, standing through, damn!) but it's all SO WORTH IT!! I love the color and shine and a lot of my friends are impressed by the color. Would highly recommend King to anyone
King and Vincent helped me create the purple hair I've always wanted! They definitely know what they're doing and you can feel their passion for the job. They are very good at explaining the process and are very nice and patient with all my questions. My hair is not in a great condition when I walked in. It went through single process coloring twice and I also did hair straightening in late January (had a before photo for your reference). Other stylists told me my hair couldn't stand any type of bleaching unless I don't care about the texture of my hair, but King managed to bleach my hair and put on the color without causing much damage. They use high quality products that help maintain the health of my hair. You'll definitely be in good hands if you come here to have the color you've always wanted. Highly recommend it!
This is the only Salon I gonna choose in New york city. Matt is awesome. He designed the style for me and guess what now it's my favorite hairstyle！！He 's so professional and so patient. Answered all my concerns even after his work time. Btw Double Q let me feel so safe during this hard time. They will check your temperature and sanitize all your stuff when checkin. They understand my need of want to look unique but don't want to go too far. And since my hair has been box dyed to black 4 times, Im aware that it was very hard for me to do any color at that point, but thanks to King gave me this brilliant idea with Lily to made it happen! Recommend Double Q to everyone out there looking for getting their hair done! Plus everyone working here are nice and friendly! ;P
Honestly, this is the best cut and color I have ever gotten. First off, my hair is very fine straight hair. I have previously done my hair somewhere else where they completely fried it making it crunchy,dry and brittle. I had contacted King for availability thinking it would take weeks to get an appointment but I was wrong. I was able to get an appointment for 8/23. (So grateful) I have grown out my hair for a 1.5 years because of all the torture that was done to it leaving me with some virgin hair about shoulder length. King greeted me and escorted me inside where they took precautions before getting to the real deal. He consulted me how my hair was before we started and what I would i was looking to get. I've always been a big fan of Smokey grey/silver and keep my hair semi-long. We both agree that the hair was quite damaged and he would try his best to save my hair. Throughout the process, he was very diligent and took his time going to all of my hair making sure the bleaching was on point to be able to achieve the color I wanted and checking for any breakage. There was none which means he is awesome at his work we did trim the bottom a little to get rid of the split ends preventing further damage. King also recommended me to get some products for my hair and how to maintain the color and prevent further damage so it can last longer. The finale- It came out great. I'm super pleased with it. It's so soft and silky to the touch. It smells great too. See the pictures. It speaks for itself. I'm in love with my hair. Staff- Everyone is quite nice. They are into the work that they do. They give you 110% making sure everything is perfection. Everyone is doing there part by having gloves, mask and distance spacing. This will be my permanent place to go to.

Found this salon through Instagram and no regrets!! I wanted a haircut for a long time and was searching for salons but the lord sent me this place as a sign. My hair was done by Chris, super nice and talkative!! As soon as I got in, my temperature was taken and I was sprayed full body with alcohol as well as given hand sanitizer. The place was full but there was plenty of space for distancing! Worth it, recommend it! read more

After not getting my hair done for nearly a year I found out my go to guy King had moved to Double Q. With some hard insta searching I found him @kingdivinefive and was able to book an appointment. I rely on him for my usual balayage ombré since I'm a stickler for smooth blends and King knows how to work color!!!! So glad I was able to find him and made the switch right away! First timer at Double Q Salon and my friend highly recommended me to look for KING. He politely greeted me at the doorway & escorted me to the back feeling like a VIP person. Definitely have to say, it was the best experience ever in my life time!! I came in with certified brassy blonde hair looking orange, dry, and major split ends. I showed him pictures of the color i wanted (very light blonde) and gave me a consultation due to my hair being so damage, he can't make it go too light due to hair breakage. With him LOVING what he does in this field, he was extremely caring, thoughtful, and his well- professionalism, he came up with similar shades of blonde just to accommodate close to what i wanted. Hands down: He truly is a hair saver and slayed it!! Made my hair looking 40 times better than what I had when i walked in and walking out like a brand new person, making me fall in love with my hair all over again!! I am very content with his astonishing work and I can proudly leave my hair in his hands without any hesitation!!! I highly recommend him!! You can never go wrong with Sam. I don't remember how many times I got hair cuts with him already, and this time I have my hair bleached and dyed by him perfectly again. I've got so many compliments since the first day, and my boss almost said it every time when she saw me in the office LOL. I went with a picture for the color I want, and it ended up with my hair color was even prettier than the picture. Sam is very caring and patient. He will give you a heads up when your scalp might stings, and will also tell you how to take care of your hair to maintain the color. Sam is so professional about the hair bleaching and coloring, let alone the hair cutting. If you are thinking to change a hair color or a hair style, I highly recommend Sam! read more

Double bleached + triple dyed = trash hair. So stressed out about my completely damaged hair, but still too stubborn to chop off my hair....what am I to do...? KING. I don't know how he did it, but he cut off all the damage, but saved my length. If that wasn't enough, he gave me face-framing bangs to top off the perfect shade of purple. KING. you can't expect anything less than the absolute best from someone with a name like that. If you don't know who King is...it's about time you found out. read more

Absolutely amazing experience at Double Q! King gave me the best recommendations and tips and basically a run-down of everything I had to know about bleached hair. King was also really friendly and made conversation through the whole process! It was my FIRST TIME EVER bleaching/ dying my hair so naturally, I was nervous for hair damage/ breakage, how I would maintain the color, etc,. But it turned out AMAZING and I am so happy with the results. Attached photos. King recommended me a trim and already noticed how he's very attentive to details. A worker gave me a hair wash prior to this; it was so relaxing! He then brought me back to wash my hair and then we began the bleaching process. He did it all in one-go although I was nervous he would have to bleach it a few times since that was what other salons told me. He then let it sit for a while and then started putting grey dye on. He made sure to not touch my roots with bleach since I had told him not to. We started at 2 PM and we finished up at 9:30PM. It was very sweet of King and his workers to stay past their closing time to finish my hair. Overall, had an amazing experience at Double Q. I recommend anyone who needs a trim, hair styling, anything! Definitely coming back for my next hair color :) read more

KING is amazing!! My friend YP recomended this place and I found his insta and BAM he was even better in person. I wanted someone that knew Asian hair, he took his time to make sure it was done well even though he didn't have to. He also reads minds and has such a good eye. Previously i used the wrong shampoo and I used it too often, and he told me to get purple stuff and use less so it doesn't dry out my hair - so knowledgeable and doesn't upsell at all. Beautiful color, I got so many compliments the second I left. Also he's just so fun to talk to. High end but very chill vibes. read more

King was my hairstylist from another salon and has been doing my hair for the last few years. When I found out he was at Double Q I did not hesitate to switch salons. King is very tentative and knowledgeable when it comes to coloring hair. I showed him an image of what I wanted to do and he was very confident he would be able to achieve it. He did not disappoint!! He achieved the color I wanted and blended it really well with my roots so that my natural hair color wouldn't stand out like a sore thumb once my hair grows out. The whole process took about 4 hours but didn't feel that long since King was so easy to talk to. There was also no wait when I got there since I made an appointment. The salon itself was easy to find and close to the train. The interior was clean, trendy and comfortable. The space was split into two different salon areas. When you walk in there are two hair stations but the larger portion is towards the back. There was also a photo shoot area where they took pics of everyone's finished hair. Everyone was super nice and courteous. I would definitely go back!! read more

the best salon ive ever been to. i first found them through kings tiktok and booked my hair appointment as soon as i did find them. i made an appt w king for the peekaboo hair that ive been wanting to do for the longest time. he absolutely killed it and understood the assignment. it was my first time dying my hair in a long time so i was nervous, but i really had nothing to worry about. i got so many compliments on my hair so many people asked me where and who i got done from, and ofc i told them abt this place. i have been also wanting to go platinum blonde for the longest time, but have hesitant since my hair is naturally jet black. i finally made the move and booked an appt to go all platinum blonde and king literally made it happen in one session less than 8 hours which is kinda unheard of. i get soooooo many compliments on my hair and how amazing it looks. not only are all of the stylists talented but sooo sweet. read more

Got my hair dyed and bleached for the first time ever and I couldn't have imagined a more perfect salon for this! I booked Mavis as she's had other amazing reviews (there's not a lot of photos of her work but I promise you she's amazing) and because she's the only woman stylist at double q so you know I had to support. Mavis was very communicative and led me through the process, giving updates and tips throughout, as this was a new experience for me. I have very thick Asian hair so the process went longer than expected but that was totally fine cause of the results. I asked questions and felt comfortable doing so cause Mavis loved answering them, which was perfect cause my past communication with other stylists have been vague. I didn't have a specific look in mind but I knew that I wanted to go blonde, Mavis helped me find the perfect shade and look for me. I showed her a pic of a specific hair cut I had in mind and she was able to bring it to life whilst making sure that it fit my face and hair length. I love my new hair and would highly recommend anyone to book Mavis for their hair journey! She's not as active on ig compared to the other double q stylists but she's just as amazing! Um yes!!!!! What can I say? King is such an artist and my hair turned out to exceed my expectations! Not only he was patient and took his time to craft my purple/pink hair, he also was super knowledgeable and friendly! With the fun conversations, the 7.5 hrs flew by and I walked out with my dream hair. You just know he is passionate about what he does and genuinely cares about the end results not just for the day but for long-term too. I am so happy I found him!!!!!! My stylist King moved on to a new hair salon so when the time came to do my hair, of course I have to follow him. It's amazing when you find a stylist that you love, and understand what I want or know what suits me when I don't know what I want. This time around, I was so prepared to stay 3-4 hours but because I didn't need to bleach the whole process was finished in 2 1/2 hours. The salon is very clean and streamlined. I love the minimal decor. Would definitely recommend this salon and King! read more

It was my first time coming here because I wanted King to do my hair. Let me just say, I went to so many salons beforehand to achieve the ash tone that I wanted and was disappointed every time because my hair came out brassy and orange. However, King heard me out and gave me the hair I finally wanted!! His attention to detail and skill impressed me and I love the results so much. Mavis is INCREDIBLE. She's literally a magician with hair. I'm indecisive and never really know how I want my hair to turn out whenever I get my hair done but Mavis was great at making suggestions and made my hair turn out so beautiful. I've been bleaching my hair for the past 4 years - multiple friends & family have told me that this is the BEST my hair as ever looked!!!! I've been following Sam in the past few years for haircuts and have never been disappointed. He's the most professional and respectful hair stylist that I've ever had. Before meeting him I had tried so many hair salons in East village/ midtown areas, trying to find someone who both has great taste and could help me explore new styles. Glad to learn that Sam has recently relocated to Double Q, which is a very lovely space that matches with their great stylists' aesthetics. Did a trim a couple days ago and was very happy about the bob cut as usual. High recommend! read more

Absolutely amazing. I've been looking for someone to color and cut my hair like this for YEARS. Sam is passionate and amazing at what he does and really knows how to take care of your hair. I've never left a salon happier than I have here. I personally had my hair done with Sam, but looking at some of the other stylist during my 5 hrs there. You can really tell they all are extremely passionate group that loves doing what they do. read more

I've been doing my hair with Sam about 5 years now, every appointments with him are such pleasure. I visited this new location and it was awesome! The place is clean, modern, comfortable and with really good lighting. It is close to the train and in a peaceful neighborhood, pretty easy to find. The hair stylist - Sam always been super professional. I colored my hair and fixed the ends in this visit... Extremely satisfy with the final color and style! The color was hard to describe but I told him what I want and he just made it come true! Highly recommend this place(and Sam)! read more
