    Double T Homestead Burro

I stayed a night at this place while visiting the area (The Catwalk & The Gila National Forest) and it was nice. We checked in at the main house with a lovely woman (owner), who told us about the area, the property, and our room. It was a pleasant greeting and start to our stay. We were in a 2 bedroom Guest House and I was surprised at the size of it. Technically this room can sleep 6, if you use the pull out couch. Admittedly, the furniture and style of the decor were a dated, but think about this: You're in a part of the state where you get no cell service. The closest/best place to eat dinner is The Blue Front. This place is pretty nice. Other facts: Beds were hard, but I like to sleep on rocks. They have satellite TV, but watch out if a storm blows through. The wind/rain blew out our signal. The kitchen was awesome! It had tons of cabinets, stocked with all you'd need. Full stove, and fridge with lots of counter space. If you're staying for a while, it'd be easy to live at this place. Reason for the 4th star: The Burros!! They have a whole family of them, and you are welcome to visit them in their pen. Carmelita, the newest member of the family was adorable when we saw her at 6 weeks old. Overall, the Double T Homestead was the perfect place for us on this trip. We woke up the next morning and drove 5 miles down the road to The Catwalks. It's an amazing hike (2.2 miles, round trip) and is worth checking out. Definitely stay a night here and soak up some of the casual countryside of western New Mexico.

Yet, it's really nice in its own ways. Cabins with bathrooms, kitchen space and more are available, options to fit 2 or more people. There are plenty of RV and camping vehicle life spaces with hook ups or not. One can choose any of the several tent sites too. And finally, the option for day soak is available if space is. I've done all three staying options and loved each one. Just prepare well bringing food, drinks and toiletries and you'll be set. There is a community kitchen with limited kitchen supplies for cooking like utensils, cups, plates and some cookware... but limited and also ever changing as its most donated / left. The clubhouse is spacious, lots of seating and space to be. A large fireplace is available. (Bring own fire wood for this or camping OR get some from them if available). There are community showers, bathrooms and laundry. The hot springs spaces have a clothing required, and separately, a clothing optional space. Plenty of tubs in each with a very hot, hot and mild option. There's lots of property to walk around, a little hill with a star gazing chair, labyrinth and decorated space. Peacocks roam around amongst other possible wild life. Everything feels well maintained and the staff is always kind. This time we stayed in campsite 46 which if your camping, is the best IMO

Not crowded on a holiday weekend in July, we were able to secure a campsite the day of. The lady at the front desk was very friendly. You do have to arrive and check in before the visitor center closes, and there is no one there at night if you have questions or need anything. We were told we'd have access to the courtyard by the visitor's center after hours, but the doors were locked. Not a huge deal. Didn't see any snakes, though I know they're around, but I did meet a few tarantulas and some whip scorpions (they won't bug you, just watch where you step). Cute and quirky little place to spend the night, and soaking in therapeutic water under the stars is

They are the retired parents of the owner and began managing the lodge a month ago. The lobby itself was very charming and rustic looking just as we had hoped. It was festively decorated with the Christmas theme and the natural log looking banisters and the cozy blazing fireplace set the tone for the weekend with our first step into the lobby. Our bedroom was huge, and everything was sparkling clean. We had a king bed and the bed frame itself was also made of natural looking wood logs. It also had a huge picture window to watch the snow falling outside. We did not get a room with a fireplace but there are several available. The lodge has a couple outside decks for entertaining when the weather is nice, and it gives a great view of the valley below and the mountains in the distance. My wife and I spent a wonderful evening lounging in the lobby and playing cards in front of the fireplace. The next morning, we woke up to a complimentary breakfast prepared by Diana and Mike that included eggs, potatoes, waffles, sausage, coffee, OJ and more. Diana even topped it off with a homemade muffin for my wife's birthday. It was a perfect weekend!!!

I can honestly say, we won't book here again, NOR will we recommend to anyone who plans on visiting this great little village. We don't mind paying the 'holiday premium' when the place we pay for 'delivers'. Unfortunately, this place did not. It's as if one checks in here and the managers or owners ? , check out after fully billing you upon check in. We checked in and were told the wifi would need to be reset as it was 'slow' when a lot of people try to connect. How many people are truly in Greer? We get it; we are in the mountains and it wasn't truly a big deal. It never worked. NOT even a little. Again, not a big deal. Our room was upstairs: upon entering it leaves a LOT to be desired. The carpet needs a good cleaning , in fact, much of the room does. The water in the sink constantly shot air while using and had low pressure. The toilet does the same with the air thing and you must hold the handle down when flushing. That can be alarming in the middle of the night. The sheets on one bed were stained and I thought about calling down to request new ones , OH! But there is no phone in the room. That makes the , ' In Room Dining Menu' a little confusing too, now doesn't it? There was a nice wad of chewed up gum to welcome my husband on his side of the bed on the headboard. My daughters bed had a terribly stained blanket, but with a hot, stuffy room, there would be no need for that. There are no drapes on the windows and the blinds are in need of revamping, so guess what.. sleep will end about 0600am. That's also the time when a flock of parent-less children will apparently be allowed to run up and down the halls and stairs of the lodge screaming and hitting the walls. There is no air conditioner either. The room was super warm when we got into it , so we opened the two windows; one in the bedroom area and one in the bathroom. I get it, it's the mountains, it was downright miserable without ac. It was uncomfortable and stuffy even in the middle of the night when it cooled off outside, this room just never ventilated well. We were up and out of the room by 0945a the next morning to hike and explore the area in Greer. The 'free breakfast' was no where to be found. No coffee was found either. We only saw the mess of it all in the breakfast room. even a toasted bagel on the floor. The complimentary bottled waters were all gone; the fruit that was mentioned was too, and only the same empty plate in the bottled water refrigerator remained from the night before, AND the water dispenser was also empty. There was NO one to be found and the girl that checked us in the day prior had told us 'IF we needed anything, that they lived on property and just let them know'. You just could never find them! We came back that evening and our room had not been cleaned or made up. No clean towels & no trash emptied. My husband said he had seen maids on his way to find the 'mystery breakfast and coffee' , so he knows they were cleaning other guests rooms. We had no DO NOT DISTURB sign on door either. We would understand if this was a cabin as we have stayed in those before and they don't always have daily service.. well, as I was reading thru the small flyer in the room, you have to place the SERVICE sign on door NLT 1000am for your room to be cleaned. That would have been nice to have been mentioned at check in. I've never seen anything like that, and I travel a lot. The place in general has so much potential. It's actually a lovely looking log cabin looking lodge. The area surrounding the lodge is beautiful, but seriously, no one seems to care. The rooms here look more like a road side motel with a price tag of 'we can gouge you and we will' than the rustic lodge cabin you enter. People would leave messes out on the decks and on the common tables in the living areas downstairs and no one seemed to care about cleaning up after that. We also were amused that we came in about 2145pm on our last night after dinner and the girl who checked us in was finally 'on property' as we were coming up the stairs to our room to literally raise her eyebrows at us rather than say hello or welcome us or anything. NOT a word! We were not sure what that was about. Very 'boarding house, den mother' attitude of her though and I was personally not amused . This is a lodge.. treat it and your guests as such. Let's discuss the hotvtub that had that awful smell of mildew as soon as it was opened.. no thanks. Maybe this is why there were rooms here available and not at the cute, MUCH, cheaper, nicer cabins our friends had. Word to all.. ( we knew this already!), plan ahead for this area and avoid this place unless you don't think sleep is important! I need a shower after a stay here. Two stars for the view & rickety deck

The plumbing upstairs was slow and had to be snaked because the sink wouldn't drain. Fridge took some time to cool down but then worked fine. Couches are worn and you sink down into them.
