I absolutely love this second hand store! I always seem to find something! Even though I am very petite, I always find a cute top, a cardigan or some cute athletic leggings! They have a variety of brands from J Crew, LuluLemon, Banana Republic and many more! They also seem to have some sort of sale whether it be for dresses, athletic wear or seasonal! I haven't been to te Encinitas store but I go to the Solana Beach one ALL the time! I LOVE it and I disagree ...it's not just for old ladies! I took my 16 year old nieces and they got brands they want....Juicy & Hollister tees and tanks...lots of Nordsrom and Anthropolgie brands..3 Dots,James Perse,Michael Starrs,Ella Moss,Moth,Velvet tanks and tees.Great jeans too! I have found some incredible deals recently...a Moschino dress with the Norstrom tags still on it for $895...I paid $90! A Bluemarine top for $100...originally $800 (-: and there are the occassional Jimmy Choos and Manolos even! Nice people too! Not many large sizes...Sm and MD mostly but I hear the Encinitas store carries larger sizes. read more

This is a gem of a ladies consignment store in Solana Beach just off Coast Highway. Great location, decent parking and easy to find. I've been coming in here to find cool stuff for years! They offer an organized selection of new and almost new, or never worn designer items at great prices. What's not to love? My friends who visit from out of town always insist on coming here to look for unique articles of clothing, purses or shoes at super good prices. Service is consistently friendly and warm so I floored by these other reviews. I will say if people are consistently in bad moods, a little shopping most likely won't cure them but maybe they should figure out their other issues before giving misleading reviews. (Just sayin') In the many years I have been coming here the ladies who work there will greet you with a warm smile and helpful attitude. All I can say, is just go in and see for yourself. I am a new fan. My cousin had on a cute dress and when she told me she got it at Double Take consignment I thought I would bring in some of my clothes and look around. I got a brand new designer top that is so unique and cute. I paid $40 for a top that was $154. I have never been able to afford or refuse to pay for designer clothes for the high prices but now will check out Double Take on a regular basis. I found several unique cute tops. I left with 4 or 5 things for under $85 including the brand new designer top. ***I am changing my 4 star review to 2 stars after not ever getting a call about my clothes I brought in. After almost a year they said I had $5 earned and they donated all my clothes that didn't sell. I didn't get an itemized list of clothes and how much they sold them for so they could tell you anything. They have you over a barrel. I might shop there but I certainly won't go to the trouble of bringing my clothes here. I will donate them to the battered women's shelter or something like that. At least I would be helping out a good cause and get the receipt for my donation for taxes. read more

This place is okay for the older woman in your life. They try to carry fun and hip stuff but they just don't cut it in that department. If you are dining Downtown Encinitas you will probably pass it on your way so the window display really features the best that they have, but on the other hand this business has been here for a long while so they must be selling something. Double Take in Solana Beach is great! Every time I clean out my over-stuffed closet, I take my old goodies there and consign them. I also love browsing their racks of items. They have a section for 'new' items full of full of clothes with the tags still on them. They also have a "designer" rack where you will find names like Escada, D&G, Nanette Lepore, Catherine Malandrino, Diane Von Furstenberg and more! This store is awesome for the bargain hunter. Bring your girlfriends on a lazy afternoon where you can spend hours scouring the racks for awesome deals. read more

Trying to Yelp all my favorite places in North County and it's taking forever because seriously....we have a LOT of really great places yo here dont we?!? So cant forget this place.... its a secondhand store but everything is washed and ironed and almost new.I have found the most amazing deals here! Velvet and Michael Starrs tee shirts for $12...my best find so far....a D&G white pantsuit for $99 with the tags still on it from Nordstroms!!! Jimmy Choo shoes gently used for $69. They dont have a lot in large sizes but lots in Small and Medium.I wear Med or Large so wish they had a little more selection in large as well....but still plenty to choose from.They also have a great jean section...Chip&Pepper,True Religion,Seven,and more which are in the $75 range,still pricy but way less than buying them new plus they are already soft and worn in! I try to pop in once a week when I am up in Solana Beach as they are always getting new things in and they go fast.I hate to even post about this as I dont want it to get too popular! LOL read more

I love this place. I'm so surprised to hear all of the complaints about service and the owner/manager. I have NEVER had a bad experience here! Spring is a great time to go because everybody is cleaning out their closets. It's not for old ladies either. They get in Lululemon, ALL name brand jeans, Tory Burch, Stuart Weitzman, Theory, Juicy, etc. If you've never been I definitely give it a try! Also, FYI they're bagless which I think is great. I have been an avid shopper of double take for over 5 years now. As my husband puts it "why would anyone ever shop anywhere else?" I have stocked my closet with designer jeans, cocktail party desses, boots for the winter, adorable sandals for the summer clutch purses to go out etc...etc... I have also sold there and had a great experience. Here's the thing...the owner is selective about what she takes but this is what makes this store so GREAT. I have no idea what Laguna is talking about. Everyone who works in this store is great! They are always up, very helpful, have great taste and are honest and tells you what looks good and what doesn't, they have great pricing, the clothes are in perfect shape. Oh, and the girl manager's name is Lynn and she is the sweetest person. She truly bends over backwards. I have been shopping and consigning here for years. I find this store functions as a great way to cleanse my closet of items that I'm not wearing and also refresh it with new ones at a great price. I prefer to consign my items, rather than sell them, and I find I always get some money for my items. For example, this last time I went in I had $40 in my account. They are so good about keeping track of my account that I once had a check waiting for me when I hadn't been there in over a year! On the buying side, I have picked up great designer items at crazy good prices. I love that they have a separate rack for high end designer items and another one of brand new stuff. I think a consignment store is a very tricky business to keep everybody happy. In reading a few of the other reviews my impression is that it is easy for people to have unrealistic expectations. Items to sell must be in like-new condition and current. The buyer has a good eye. On the buying side the prices are always a third or less than what you would buy them for new. No, you won't find Juicy for a dollar but you can find a Marc Jacobs dress for $50 or a Banana Republic top for $15. In my book that's a deal! The customer service here is not like at a big retailer. My thought is that they could be a little more consistent and polished. There is often only one person there and you might need to wait a moment. However, everyone there has always been friendly and nice to me and helped me with what I needed. Keep up the good work! read more

I was never a fan of buying clothes from Thrift Store or Consignment Stores since I have never found anything. But I was wrong, this store changes my mind and now I love shopping at consignment stores, specifically the one that carry high-end clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. I've visited both of their location, Carlsbad and the Solana Beach. I favor the Solana Beach one more since I have better luck buying something and they carry more high-end items then their Carlsbad location. Rarely do I ever walk out without buying anything. I know I am always getting a great deal from here is because I never buy any brand name stuff that I didn't already know the initial cost of it. I do agree with other reviewers that sometime there are stains on the items but then again, the price is cut more than half and majority of the stuff has already been worn but it is still in great conditions. I guess I'll be visiting this store more often than Saks or Neimans now a day. read more

This is in response to the poor review from Laguna L. Carlsbad. I come to this store twice a year, whenever I'm in town. The prices are somewhat high yes but they are designer and of very good quality. And if you don't like the prices don't shop here. Laguna set the tone with her passive aggressive comments and remarks to the manager. I have been shopping and bringing clothes here for years. Recently my college aged daughter gave me all of her Free People and anthropologie clothing that she no longer wears. So I cleaned them and took them to Double Take in Solana Beach. The woman there seemed quite pleased to see such cute things. I came back a day or two later and was pleased to see several items hanging on the racks. I shopped a bit and came back a week later to shop again. When I noticed that many of my items were no longer there, presumably sold, I asked how much store credit I had, I was told "zero." Hmmmm.... So I checked back several weeks later, combed the racks, saw that most of my items were no longer there and asked about my credit, I was told $9. Nine dollars??? I have taken things there for years and I KNOW how much I usually receive in credit. Something was off. I mentioned this very politely to the woman at the desk and suggested that possibly someone else was credited with my items. I understand. Mistakes can be made. She was beyond rude to me. I tried again a month later. Still $9. Still very rude. I know for certain that a mistake was made. I don't want more money. I just want them to acknowledge their mistake and apologize. I will NEVER shop there again. read more

Amy B must have gone into the store after her girlfriend broke-up with her. She sounds a little angry. To comment about the staff is one thing. To attack customers. Clearly, she hates herself. I have been a loyal customer at Double Take, and I have always found the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is wonderful. My favorite part of the the store is the section labeled 'new.' It has new clothes with the original price tags on them, sold at prices far less than you would find in a department store. I am a loyal customer of both Double Takes (Solana Beach and Encinitas). I am in my mid 30s and have literally furnished my entire wardrobe from here! I get amazing designer jeans, really fun tops, unique shoes, designer purses and dresses here! I have brought everyone from my mid 20s sister in law, to my mother and we all are very successful each time we visit. Love this re-sale place. Lots of name brand stuff for good prices. Some stuff is overpriced, but you can dig for good deals. I get work stuff here and also pick up cool things for myself. I will say that it can get busy and you have to wait in line at times for the dressing room or to check out, so that was why I gave it a 4. Not sure why the other people were saying the people that work here are rude, I've never had an issue and been many times. read more

I am a thrift-a-holic. I don't buy any new clothes due to ethical reasons. This is the best store in all of San Diego County. I can easily spend a few hours each visit. I don't consign, so I can't say anything about that. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to the staff. They're nice enough- no real issues, but not stand out customer service either. I wouldn't care if the staff was rude anyway, they choose great clothes to sell!! It's my first choice when needing clothes or just a shopping fix. read more

The lady was very friendly. They have now a 20% off everything for their 20th birthday. Maybe due to the sale the selection was not much. There is a session with about 2-3 racks with high end designers but the price is a bit high. The clothes are in good shape and the store has a pleasant smell. read more

This is just an initial review based on customer service. I have a grip of brand new expensive designer clothes to unload (I get a lot of nice clothes as gifts and I'm more of a jeans and t-shirt girl). I called ahead to ask about what kind of clothes they buy, the process, etc. I specifically asked if they were buying clothes today. The woman said yes so I let her know I would be in shortly. When I got there with my 3 big bags of clothes, she let me know I would have to drop them off and wait until Monday when the owner gets back in. Drop them off? Hell to the no! I don't know you nor do I trust you to keep up with my clothes (especially since each piece retails for over $150)! I laughed and said, no that's okay. I'll go somewhere else. Not only was that woman delusional, but she also should have told me that the owner wasn't there until Monday. Thanks for nothing. I went to Thrifty threads instead to sell some stuff. I may go back on Monday just to see what the selling experience is like and to poke around the store...then I will give you an update on the inventory, etc. read more

May be good for buyers, but TERRIBLE for consignors! If you're considering consigning at DoubleTake, I would think again! I have been consigning with Renn at the Solana Beach location for about 15 years. When she first started the business she was young, fresh, kind and nice. She was a fair business woman at that time. Now she is arrogant and dishonest. For several years now I have felt that she has been dishonest about which items I consigned actually sold and for what price. She was able to get away with this because I allowed her to donate items that didn't sell. If you want your items back that didn't sell at the end of the consignment, you must go and search for them yourself. That is fine, but the most expensive items can never be located in her store and yet she says they did NOT sell! So you get nothing for them! When you question her about this she either says she doesn't know what happened to the items or she says, "Oh, those haven't been recorded on your account yet." Then when she does record them on your account, they have sold for FAR LESS than what she originally said she listed them at. She uses dishonest accounting practices that favor her business and not the consignor. I will never consign with her again. I would caution others before consigning with her. Now that consignment shops have popped up all over and she has competition, she has become dishonest. On top of that, she isn't very kind or nice anymore either. In the end, karma will probably serve justice. Too bad she's become this way. It used to be a good business. read more

Used to be good, now it is a was good. The owner used to refuse to have spotted clothes and now insults you if you mention it. The styles and choices are low end and cheesy. The lighting is (and has been) atrocious with colored pastel plastic shades on CFL bulbs so you can't see what you looking at and the color is off. The last several times we have tried the store there has been nothing... nada, no sale. I write this with resentment because the store, years ago, was a great one but due to success and now apathy it is scratched off the list. Wren should sell it and move on. read more

I have both bought and sold clothes here. The clothes that they do have here are really nice for a second hand store and they definitely don't put clothes out that seem worn. Every time I go though I feel as though I am not welcomed there, the people are friendly enough, but I almost feel as if I am treated that since I am not wearing designer into the store that I don't belong in the store. I brought in multiple pairs of name brand jeans which they bought back but unlike other consignment stores I have been to they don't give you cash in hand. You have to wait and check back in with them to see if your clothes have been sold. I will probably keep going here because the clothes (if not the ambiance) are nice but I will find another place to sell back my clothes. read more

I found this store by searching for vintage/consignment stores in this area. I was a bit discouraged when the Encinitas store refused all of my new/almost new clothes, especially since I wasn't particularly impressed with their selection. I was reluctant to try again at the Solana Beach Double Take, but I'm so glad I did! When I approached the store, I was a little put off by the rack of clothes in front, and the fact that I couldn't figure out where to enter the store. Once I was in, however, I was thrilled to find an excellent selection of clothes and shoes at quite reasonable prices. At any given time, there are probably ten items that I would love to own--and if they happen to be in the sale corner, they are greatly discounted. There is a large rack of new-with-tags clothing, one of designer selections that look like they have never been worn, as well as quite a few Banana Republic, J. Crew, Ann Taylor, and Anthropologie, and designer jeans priced at about $30-60. At this point most of my friends haven't entered the shop, because they associate consignment stores with dust, a musty smell, and overpriced, hideous clothing, but I think they will be impressed with this store. I have talked one of my four college-aged daughters into coming with me (yes, four in college--no wonder I have to shop carefully!). She was skeptical, but found some glittery J. Crew flats for me in new condition for something like $16, and some Lululemon yoga pants and workout shirts for herself (she didn't buy them because they are a bit pricey). She settled on a pair of Lucky shorts. Had she not been basically working her way through college, the pickiest shopper on earth would have purchased more. Although I think they cater more to women my age, my daughters wear a lot of the brands that I have seen--they love Anthro and Free People, and I've seen some gorgeous Frye boots... The shop also endeared themselves to me by accepting quite a few of my clothes for consignment. I plan to bring more in so I can justify hitting the sweater rack--I missed the Sleeping on Snow sweater that I was drooling over for a few days (things move fast, so if you love something, buy it on the spot!). read more

This is a wonderful upscale consignment shop right on 101 before Via de la Valle. It is a really big store and has a great feeling about it. The clothing is amazing - very stylish things. I came here with a friend and we had lunch next door at the Thai restaurant which was really good. read more

Last year I was invited to the Races on short notice, and had to wear a dress or something upscale. Nothing in my closet would do so I dropped by DT and checked the dress racks and found the perfect dress, no alterations needed, and priced right for my limited budget - and I couldn't have been more pleased. Be careful when "selling stuff" to Double Take. They gave me store credit averaging $5.00 an item for some stuff that will sell for 10 times that. Although they didn't tell me this at the time, if you consign you will get 30% of what they sell. When I called a couple of minutes later to inquire why I received so little "store credit" they said it was too late to switch to consigning because they had already put the items on the floor. Be clear about what you want to do before going in there with clothing and make sure you ask questions about your options. read more

I would have to agree with the other reviews... Qa. Said it best - "It used to be good. Now it is not". As well, I am really disappointed with the owner and her worker. They constantly talk about the people walking thru the store. You can hear them when you are in the fitting room- giggling like little girls and saying some unbelievably cruel things. As far as clothing: they used to have great stuff but not any more. They seem to favor Chicos and White House Black Market to the designer labels they used to take in before. I have brought them designer Prada with the tags still on and they did not take it. What a shame for everyone. The few pieces they did take I never got my money for. The clothes were no where to be found and they still claimed they did not sell them. DO NOT waste your time or energy going to this store. I found Double Take on the internet. I called and was told to bring my items in.The reception I got from the manager was not friendly and I passed it off as perhaps she was having a bad day. After leaving my items and got into my car I had second thoughts, but drove on. I called a week before my contract was over and asked if I could come and get my items in a day or so because I was leaving town. I went and the reception I got this time from the assistant manager was ugly. She was talking to a friend over the counter about personal things and I waited several minutes and it didn't seem like the assistant mgr was anxious to help me. So I interrupted and told her I was there to get my items. She gave me a sneering look and went to the computer to bring up my contract and then handed me a list. I was told to pick up the two items that didn't sell. I found them, returned to the counter. She was still talking to this individual and made me feel out of place like now what do you want? I again said excuse me, but could you please help me? She said, do you want a check for the items? Well of course, I did. Then I asked her to explain to me how much my items sold for. She answered curtly, just look at the list. I said, I don't understand as there is this first price I got quoted when I first came in and the check is for less than one eighth of the amount. Which items went on sale after 30 days? She took out her calculator and started to punch in some numbers, then deleted it and said, look you can figure it out, just add them all up and take 40% off. I said, that doesn't answer my question. I want to know how much this coat sold for...she said, you figure it out. I said, it looks like I got cheated here. She answered does it matter.?.they sold. I told her it was the principle and I wanted to know why you took more than 90% off, if I only made this amount? She dismissed me and returned to her girlfiend. My items of clothing were in excellent condition, no buttons missing, no tears, all freshly laundered and pressed and high-end items from Neiman Marcus in the last 6 months.. I have never been treated in such a rude, crude way and I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO LEAVE THEIR ITEMS THERE. i believe the manager and assistant manger make out well because they rip people off and take the items for themselves. There are a number of other consignment stores I will do business with. I am passing this info on to protect others so they don't get swindled like I did. read more

Many years ago, when Double Take opened their doors in Solana Beach, I was one of their first customers. I loved the place along with the stores in Encinitas and Carlsbad. I especially adored the older ladies that worked there, Barbara and the wonderful classy gal in SB. I shopped there exclusively! As time went on, they got very snobby and I didn't care for the way the stores were set up. I was even told that they didn't want to offer chocolate candy any more because of the cheap people eating it all (!). Well, today I went to both SB and Encinitas. Although I was the only customer in SB and I saw the owner in the Encinitas store...no one acknowledged me. Even when I went in the dressing rooms or was casually looking thru the racks. Perhaps I was interrupting them (?) There are plenty of other stores that I could make purchases at. I want to feel welcomed and appreciated aa a customer. I will NOT return. My Sister's Closet appreciates me and my money, besides, they have the inventory that I am looking for. Avoid DoubleTake! read more
