Absolutely loved Dough. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately. We wanted to sit out on the patio but there was a half hour wait and 4 hungry mouths, hence indoor seating. Service was friendly. They have the "farm to table" philosophy-quite evident in the flavor of each dish and pie. You get what you pay for along with the advantage of byob. We had the truffle risotto rice balls, octopus salad and the shrimp for appetizers-Delish. I had the margherita pizza with truffle oil, my husband and friends had the sausage pizza and a zuchinni flower pizza (special). We loved them all. Great pizza, and a little different than at other pizza places. It's definitely artisan. Excellent salads and fried zucchini too. I've always had good service here no matter whether with a large party or two people. I love the small, intimate space too. I hope they continue to be as good when they move to their new location. The food and the menu are very good here and I don't believe the pizza is their strong point even though the pizza is good it's not Tony d's or angelinos but close. The appetizers and salads are excellent, menu variety very nice, and drinks excellent. One of the most impressive things to me was the management was totally visable and live helping the wait staff. Great for families as we were 8, sat outside, and had a very nice experience. 3 stars = A-ok. Arrived at 6pm on a weeknight and four tables were occupied. I had a made a reservation based on reviews here but I guess I was early enough for it to be a non-issue. Decor was great and service was friendly. Got a margherita pizza and cola. Pizza dough was good. Not as good as Razza's dough, but in the same family which is a good thing. Sauce was nice, on the "wet" side. Cheese was great. Flavor I'd give a solid 4 stars. However, I also care about assembly. This was the type of pizza where the toppings all slip off when you pick up each slice, resulting in you being forced to scoop them back up onto the slice, where they inevitably land in a pile and some pieces will have a mountain of cheese and some will have none. The watery sauce makes everything like a slip n' slide. Stars are deducted for this. Great toppings and dough do not inherently have this problem. Last but not least, soda. They have Boylan's, not Coke. You may think this is a good thing, you may think his is a bad thing. But it' a thing you should be aware of. read more

This is a random find we had after a day of hiking. I mean... What's better than Pizza when you are exhausted? Oh well we came here without much expectation. The wait time was about 20-25 minutes. We were hungry. We ordered the soup of the day and two pizzas. Woah! They are delicious. It's definitely nice having a BYO in Caldwell that's not Italian, but I just can't get on board with Dough Artisan. I've been here quite a few times now and not sure I'll be back after this last one. To start, I always make a reservation when going to Dough. However, the hostess always seems frazzled when I get there, this past time being the worst. After checking in and waiting about 10 minutes shoulder to shoulder with 5 other groups waiting for tables, the hostess seemed confused, as if we didn't make a reservation and proceed to question how and when we did so. Moving forward, we were finally seated in the larger family room where there were plenty of free tables. Our waiter was great, but unfortunately our food was not. The meatballs app (pictured) came out cold and both pizzas (margarita and pepperoni) came out soupy. I really wish I could like Dough Artisan more than I do - the location, decor, and the BYO aspect are all great. However, with so many other pizza places nearby, it's going to be hard to give this place another chance. read more

BEST PIZZA IN NJ!!!! For appetizers I would recommend the meatballs and Zucchini Crisps Plate for a guaranteed crowd pleaser. I came here for lunch with a few friends today, and we had the best meal! Their lunch special is awesome. For $12.95 you can pick any salad and any personal (9 inch) pizza from their menu. I got the arugula salad and the Shroom pie. Both were delicious. I love brick oven pizza, and I think this might be my favorite place for it! The crust was absolutely delicious. The salad was great too, and the special was such a good deal! The service was also really good. The only problem is that they don't have a parking lot, and street parking was hard to find right away, but it's worth dealing with that! read more

Such a cute spot to come for a lunch ! Me and my girlfriends came here and grabbed some pizza for a sit down lunch in the garden! You could see the fresh veggies growing in the back and are known for their great fresh salads !!! It tasted so good and healthy ! I also got a soup from there with kale and white beans and it was amazing !! I finished the whole thing and is a great serving with a pizza. We waited about another 15 minutes for the pizza to come out after our soups and salads and enjoyed it very much ! My friend got the hummus pizza which was very different! I got one of the specialty white pizzas and it was so delicious. I'm also a vegetarian so they were able to accommodate the pizza to my preferences! Calling Dough an "Artisan Pizzeria" is like calling the Uffizi a nice art gallery. The table separation (with dividers) is very cleverly done, and gives a nice feeling of being in an intimate venue which actually spans two Caldwell storefronts (and has a patio in the back). All of the food was incredible -- the salads are full of creative ingredients, with complementary dressing and nice touches like shaved manchego cheese. Pizzas vary by season and again combine outstanding local ingredients put together with care and a true sense of flavor. We started with 3 pizzas and ended up ordering a fourth (all shared, for just 4 of us). The chef is CIA trained and it shows; the staff is attentive without being annoying (ask for Brandon, he's funny in addition to solid with the pizza delivery). The different between "artisan" and "artistic experience" is in the myriad details that made this a superb dinner (at a great price). Smokey the Pig pizza has smoked mozzarella (both home made and home smoked, a separate art form). Asparagus, leeks and fennel toppings for pizza and salad were shaved to an ideal thickness so they would cook perfectly; there was likely more mandolin(e) work going on in the kitchen than on a Steve Howe solo album. Truly a local gem. The pizza is fantastic. The wife and I had the Margherita, which is always a true test of the merits of a pizza restaurant. So few ingredients that each one has to be spectacular. We were not disappointed. The thin, dark crust is not for everyone, so if that is not your preference, you might want to go somewhere else. My wife and I thought it was spectacular.
