Sometimes a pizza parlor that makes great pizza can do more. That is the case Gencarelli's. I have been coming to Gencarelli's for pizza for a long time. I like their thin crust, tomato sauce and fresh toppings. This family run business has always been competitively priced. I stopped by on a weekday around 5pm. The business sits at the intersection of RT. 46 with a jughandle right in front. Sometimes it's difficult to get get in or out. This is a dine-in or takeout restaurant. The dine-in side has been relatively newly renovated and is warm, cozy and aesthetically pleasing. I ordered the Chicken Marsala ($21.25). The chicken was cooked in a Marsala wine sauce with mushrooms and shallots. This was a well done tasty Marsala wine sauce with moist chicken pieces. It's BYOB. I always carry a bottle of wine in the trunk of my car because I travel a lot and often eat at BYOBs. The calamari ($9.95) was a take-out. It was not tough and chewy like some calamari can be. We have truly missed Gencarellis when it closed its Wayne location. We have ordered from here before, but hadn't used to cater a big event. I was truly amazed. We ordered 150 sliders - chick parm, cheesesteak, and buff chicken. They were phenomenal. Individually wrapped and great to go boxes. Drunken grandma square, soooo good (the phone did not eat first), and this is a big deal for me to say but it is the BEST garlic knots I have ever had. Here for an event. It's a small space but they can accommodate a small party. Loved the calamari- very tender with a light crispy coating. Pizza was good too. Didn't really like the rice balls. They lacked flavor and texture as they were served in a sauce. Didn't really like the eggplant parm- it was ok but eggplant was too thin, tasted more like breading than eggplant. We just love this place and it is def out go-to when we want really good food. The food is truly amazingly delicious and plentiful. Prices have gone up but probably on par with similar restaurants. It took a bit of work finding Gencarelli's today, and the parking here is a bit tough, but I did make it here for lunch. Here's the good news....the slice of mushroom pizza I had was very good. It's a nice thin crust pizza. Only issue was that it could have been served hotter. Gencarelli's has been around for over 25 years so you know they must be doing something right over here and that fact remains totally obvious in every delicious bite of literary everything that comes outta this super legit old school Pizzeria Restaurant. And lately I gotta say that their one-of-a-kind thin crust style Pizza has gained all my attention and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to break its hold.    It's pretty easy to see what makes this Pizza something special even from the first glance you take of it. Pies here appear to be larger than most other places around and I think that's because they use the same amount of dough but they just expand it in order to keep that thin crispy crust texture that they're locally known for.    Toppings are also uniquely special here and certain combinations can't even be found anywhere else that I know of, which also adds to the "cravability factor" this spot maintains over my tastebuds. All ingredients are fresh and noticeably appealing with each and every tremendously tasty bite. Yup, I'm definitely hooked on this Cheesy, Saucy, yet firmly flexible thin crust style Pizza and I'll do my best to keep my composure as I wait patiently until my next visit.   I should also mention the incredible menu full of Italian inspired food that they offer here too other than what I've already covered, but since exceptional Pizza is the first thing you see upon entering it's pretty easy to overlook everything else. Flew in for a work trip this week and we decided to order Gencarelli's Pine Brook last minute through UberEats. I took these photos midway through the meal. Being a vegetarian, and without seeing clear labeling on their menu, I called the restaurant ahead of time to find out what was safe to order. The guy I chatted with (possibly the Manager, Walter?) was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure he got me the right info for dishes, and communicated with the cook after we ordered to avoid any mix-ups. All of the food (cheese ravioli with parmesan, garlic sauteed spinach, beet salad, plain rolls) was fresh and the quality was exceptional. Portions were large and I was able to eat on them for a couple days. The plain cheesecake was literally the best I've ever had in my life. I'm still dreaming about it and wish I could have it shipped to TX. I definitely recommend Gencarelli's Pine Brook for a delicious night out or even a relaxing night in. This is based on takeout orders ......Went there all the time for years when the original family was there. They had the best pizza and the mussels rich thick marinara sauce were fantastic! Went there recently twice just to be fair their pizza... they serve this 18 inch pie instead of the regular 16 inch. This gives you slices that are not easy to handle at least give a choice 16 or 18. The plain pie has barely any cheese on it the drunken pies are tasteless, the meaty pies are very greasy. Hidden Gem Alert! At first glance it's a pizza joint in an unpretentious small strip; don't let that fool you. They have a beautiful intimate dining room serving delicious Italian classics. Was in the mood for a pizza and stopped in a Gencarelli's (Italian Restaurant) right off Rt. 46 W. (at the intersection of Hook Mountain Rd.) in Pine Brook. Ordered their 18" plain cheese pie (I generally prefer my pizza without toppings) and was anxious to see if it lived up to the positive comments I have received from friends in the past. We all know that how you like your pizza is a matter of personal taste, but there are some general aspects that are consistent with any good pie, whatever style it may be. I found Gencarelli's pizza to be very tasty. The relatively thin crust was cooked just right; light and crisp, with that slight crunch you are looking for. A great foundation and a good thickness that allowed me to taste the rich, nicely seasoned and balanced tomato sauce and fresh cheese topping. Not the least bit greasy. The sauce to cheese ration was perfect (not too much sauce and just enough cheese to complement the sauce without melting into it). All in all, a satisfying pizza that I will return for again. Gencarelli's is a cute, cozy, comfortable, friendly little eatery with a nice sized menu, and I hear that their dishes are very tasty, with generous portions. I haven't had the opportunity to have a dine in experience there as of yet, but it will have to go on my calendar. read more

However, over the past year or so, they're dependability has fallen off drastically. When you order in volume, give a specific time for delivery, and then repeatedly they are late, as a consumer you feel that your not valued. This is exactly what we have here. Ordered a drunken sassy grandma pie for carryout. The paper and online menu says it is 18 inches large for $28. Had a coupon for it for $25 which would be a $3 discount. Amazing family meal tonight. I'm perusing Facebook and what do I see - half a tray of chicken parm, half a tray of penne vodka, half a tray of salad and a side of bread. All for a ridiculously nice price. I pose me not cooking to my husband. He is thrilled, considering I can't really cook. I order online - super easy. Was able to leave a tip too. We go pick it up...it's ready! Thrilled, we return home. My 4 year old houses a piece of bread and ate two servings of penne. She usually only eats 2 pieces. I want to start by saying I'm a long time customer and love the grandma pizza but I recently had the chicken cutlet and it's so thin and over cooked that you can barely see white meat at all..it's paper thin. We got a pizza, wings, and a chicken meal. Nothing was even remotely warm, let alone hot. I called & talked to a manager and the attitudes I got from him I will NEVER go there again. He didn't want to attempt to remedy anything, said he wasn't doing anything about it. Sorry but for the price you charge, you need to serve decent food to people! Not heavy or greasy. Coating was super light, crispy & nice & hot! I drank the leftover sauce it was SO GOOD. Split a slice Buffalo Chicken pizza. Not heavy or overloaded w/cheese. Sooo tasty and cooked to absolute perfection. Grilled chicken & Broccoli rabe: 2 large pieces of moist, flavorful perfectly grilled Chicken. FINALLY EDIBLE BROCCOLI RABE! At Gencarelli's it's cooked to absolute perfection. No greasy, continuous feel like you're going to choke pieces of rabe. Was plated beautifully w/chunks of roasted garlic. Even the stems were soft and edible, absolutely DIVINE! Finally Linguini w/shrimp Fra Diavolo. Linguine/shrimp were cooked to perfection and the sauce was super flavorful! Generous portions and great prices. We also met the owner and he was very welcoming & personable. He took the time to come over and asked if we enjoyed our meal. In repeat visits I have discovered a standout that I recommend to everyone who comes here - the mini rice balls. Known as arancini di riso (oranges of rice) for their size, shape, and "orange" exterior, these are the best I have had in America (I ate rice balls at least once a day for two weeks in Sicily and southern Italy). They have crispy exterior that isn't too thick, with an interior is rich and creamy. Probably different from what you are used to, but absolutely delicious. Blazing buffalo pizza was nice but really not spicy enough. Absolutely packed with chicken and bacon though. We had chicken parm again and it's consistently good. I will say that the red sauce is not really my favorite, but it's not bad at all. read more

Wanted something heartier than a couple of slices, so stopped in for a take-out order over the weekend. Perused the paper menus nearby the cash registered and eventually settled on buffalo calamari, a chicken francese sub, and some garlic knots. Guy that rang us up was pretty friendly. Let me know why it took them 30+ minutes from when we ordered to when we were able to leave the restaurant. Thankfully I wasn't in a rush to go, but that just seemed like an excessive amount of time to wait. I liked how they packed up the food (aluminum tins for the calamari and knots + sauces in plastic containers + wrapped in a paper bag / sub was in a sub box). However, I wasn't too much of a fan of how the food tasted. Bread was yummy and chicken was crispy and cooked well, but couldn't really taste any of the lemon sauce that I love on chicken francese -- maybe because it was masked by cheese! I've never had cheese on any francese dish, so that was very confusing. Calamari was kind of crispy (I think it got a little steamed from being in the take out container - not their fault), but the buffalo sauce tasted very tomato forward. I don't believe I've ever had a tomato-based buffalo sauce, but I can't say that I really enjoyed it either. The blue cheese dip though was chunky and yummy. The knots were solid.
