I've dined at this location five times now and the customer service could be a little better. We were the only ones in the restaurant this time, but you would've thought they had a packed house based on how slowly everything moved. Just for the waitress to come back to the table to get our order papers took entirely too long. Outside of the service the restaurant itself is large, spacious, and clean, with plenty of room for large parties to gather and dine. I came this time to try the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu, and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, filling, and cooked to perfection. For dinner Dough Zone Dumpling House offers five courses plus a drink for only $39, which is one of the most generous HRW menus I've seen. It's definitely worth trying, especially if you haven't dined here before. Of everything I've ordered my favorites were the green onion pancakes, pork & crab soup dumplings, chicken potstickers, and pan fried chicken wontons. I also really enjoyed the flavor of the hot and sour glass noodles just not so much the noodles themselves. Also whenever you're dining at Dough Zone the soup dumplings are ALWAYS a must! This is a great spot whether you're trying the HRW menu or dining from the regular menu. The prices are affordable, there's plenty of seating, a lot of drink options, and the restaurant is very clean. UPDATE. Management responded back to this constructive criticism. I am going to wait a month and then go in and try the dumplings again to see if they've taken a look at what they're putting out and made any improvements. I shall report back.. Dough Zone. Pot stickers. Weird texture. Had the desirable crispy bottom. But the dumpling itself, the dough texture was like Pla-Doh and not pleasant. Felt and tasted like it was raw even though I know it wasn't. Weird. Perhaps their other stuff is great but I couldn't finish this. Tasted like it was frozen dumplings from the grocery store just heated there. I mean it tasted factory made to me. I have no doubt many dumplings restaurants premake and freeze their dumplings to be steamed or fried later, but they still taste like they're made in-house. Didn't get that impression at Dough Zone. I'm familiar with the Dough Zone chain as I'm from Seattle where the company originally started. It used to be good as a budget Din Tai Fung, but as the years passed it's now come across as slightly below average in quality. This location didn't change my mind. Flavors didn't stand out, dumplings you could tell aren't made to order, the chive cakes were scantily filled and the minced filling produced a pre chewed texture I wasn't fond of, and the spicy beef pancake roll was hardly spicy. Tonight is my second time coming here, but for some reason my review is gone! Not sure why... but here we go again, another review. There's a good bit of parking in the area, which is good to me because I just hate places that don't have little to no parking! The kitchen is pretty open, but it can see who's cooking and what they are cooking. I feel that the prices are reasonable in a way, but honestly I think the should have given me a bit more for it almost being 7 dollars. We got the Dan dan noodles, the spicy mala and vegetarian mala noodles. Everything was super salty and the portions were small, but the prices were pretty cheap. I also got soup dumplings which were a little cold but decently flavored. There was plenty of seating and parking though, so it could be a good option for large parties. read more

Not gonna lie, the food was great. Here's my beef: I was so excited to come here for Houston Restaurant Weeks 2025. They had an awesome menu, and they were offering it and open on Labor Day, which a lot of others were not. We planned our day around this and passed up other great Houston restaurants to come here. When we arrived they simply told us "they don't have it" when we asked for the HRW option. I asked why, and they said they didn't know. We almost left, but at that point it was almost 8 pm on a holiday and most other places would be closed. So we stayed and ordered off the regular menu. We tried and shared a lot of items, and honestly all of them were pretty great. The best thing we had were the pork soup dumplings (far superior to the chicken we also tried). I will probably be back because the food was so good, but overall I am disappointed in missing out on their HRW that was advertised. read more

Having visited their new location in the Galleria area, I was pleased to see a midtown location closer to work for a weekday lunch option. The interior was less fancy than the Galleria branch and it was extremely empty. The staff weren't very interactive at all or observant so it took a while to order. You get handed a menu, mark what you want, and hand it in. We ordered a few of what should be heavy hitters of street food; XLB, chili cucumbers, gyoza, scallion pancakes, jian bing, beef rolls etc. Keep in mind that it's a lot of carbs and dough here and the flavors can get a bit single noted. The jian bing and beef pancake rolls were probably the best items here (4/5). The XLB did not taste fresh; definitely was frozen for a while and reheated quickly as you can tell from the texture of the dough and the filling didn't taste great (1/5). The wontons and Dan Dan noodles were decent. Overall, the overall dining experience is lacking compared to their other location, which I would recommend. read more

Finally made it to Dough Zone for a weekend lunch date. Dough Zone has been on my radar since it hit the Houston food scene a few years ago. It's a west coast chain that has expanded into the Houston area with plans to grow more around the US. There's another popular restaurant that I enjoy when I visit the west coast, but this is more like the cheaper version of that. That's not necessarily a bad thing. This location is in Midtown. It's sits on the corner of a shopping strip. During the day, parking shouldn't be an issue, but I assume during peak busy hours you may have some issues. Customer service was just ok. It was straight business without any warmth. I had to ask specific questions to learn more about their menu. The space inside is large and modern looking and seems like a place where they can accommodate larger groups. When you are seated, they set down a sheet with their menu items. You then pick your items and then they bring it out. There is a QR code on the table with that pulls up the menu as well with pictures to help you decide. We didn't hit all the categories since it was just two of us, but I think we got the essentials. One of their main draws is the Xiao Long Bao which are soup dumplings. I've had these exceptional ones elsewhere so the bar was set high. I won't say these were the best I ever had, but they were very good. The dough was the perfect thickness, not too doughy, and held it's integrity with the soupy filling. The broth and pork inside was delicious. One of their own signature dishes is the Q-Bao which are steamed, then pan fried. It's not a typical preparation but I liked the soft bun with the crispy bottom. The filling in this was really good too. We ordered Dan Dan Noodles to get some noods into the equation. Solid, but not the best I've ever had. We went heavy on the veg options with the Kale Salad with Sesame Dressing and Sweet and Sour Cucumbers. Both were very light and refreshing. The cucumbers were one long piece which made it slightly difficult to eat, but we managed. The kale salad was very good. I washed my food down with some tea, but they also have beer, soda, and boba. They have quite a few options on the menu, but I do wish they had some more just meat options. Overall, I really enjoyed Dough Zone. Came here for the first time and will add this into my list for affordable eat within the loop. It's located in midtown in a small shopping strip, so parking is shared with the other stores and can fill up pretty quick. I had to drive around a few times to get a spot in the parking lot, but there's also street parking near by if you don't mind a short walk. Parking is kinda annoying, but we went after 7pm on a Saturday and were able to park at the UPS designated spots. For a party of 5, we order 2 orders of soup dumplings, 1 pan fried dumpling, 2 green onion pancakes, 1 order of chilli wontons, 1 romaine lettuce with sesame dressing, 1 cucumber salad, 1 dan dan noodles, 1 cold noodles with sesame dressing and 1 Zha Jiang Mian noodles. All of it was fresh, hot and very good! Our bill ended up being about $25 per person, which is honestly not bad at all for what we ordered. There is something off about Dough Zone but it sits well with me for some odd reason. If you have ever experienced Din Tai Fung, you will understand. I get the sense that Dough Zone is trying to duplicate the vibes of Din Tai Fung and it is almost there. Are the soup dumplings the same or better? No. Are the sides the same or better? Maybe. Are the noodles the same or better? Probably. What is better is the value. You are not breaking the bank here for very above-average food. I ordered the Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings, Chicken Soup Dumplings, Pan Fried Pork dumplings, and Spicy beef pancake rolls. The selection I picked can only be summed up as above average at best. It will hit the spot if you are craving this type of cuisine but it will leave you much to be desired. Don't come here satiated. Come here starving and it will brighten the experience. I recently visited this dumpling house on my trip to Houston with friends, and it was one of the best meals of my trip! My friend who was in our group recommended to go here since she had tried it in Seattle and raved about it. Since we're used to LA prices, we were surprised at how affordable everything was here. At first, we assumed the portions would be smaller, but we were wrong and ended up over ordering. However, this allowed us to try to a variety of dishes. My personal favorites were the pork and shrimp XLB, which were perfectly steamed and full of flavor and soup inside. I also liked the dan dan noodles, which had just the right amount of spice and noodle density. We also tried the spiraled cucumbers, which came in a generous portion and were refreshing alongside the heavier dishes. Overall, I was really impressed by both the quality and portion sizes, especially at such an affordable price point compared to LA. It took a really long time for our server to come get our ticket from us. It actually wasn't our server- we had to flag someone down because our server wasn't coming around. Food came out pretty quickly once we ordered though. We went for dinner and they were sold out of pork soup dumplings, which was super disappointing since that was a big reason we wanted to go here. So maybe we should've gone earlier if we wanted some. The way ordering works here is: they give you a sheet of paper that has all the items listed on it and once everyone at your table knows what they want, you mark how many of each item you want and then give them the ticket. We a wanted to split the check and our server was having some trouble sorting that out, so we ended up just having one person pay for it and the rest of us paid her. The bathroom was also super nice!
