Came here on a Tuesday night around 7, hoping to get some xiao long bao. Its a pretty large seating area and kept clean. Staff was all nice and no complaints about service. They unfortunately ran out of pork and chicken clb and only had 2 orders of the pork+crab version and my partner thinks he's allergic to crab so we didn't get a chance to try it. What we did try was all quite a let down. We got the sweet and sour cucumbers, which were an interesting presentation but nothing special. We also got the sour and spicy wontons, steamed vegetable dumplings, and fried beef cakes. All were very underwhelming, portion and flavorwise. Everything was very underseasoned and bland to me, even adding chili oil barely did anything. The beef cakes were supposed to be a house special but the dough was so thick and hard that it just didn't come out well at all. Another trendy Chinese restaurant to add to the collection. I can imagine parking be an issue during the busy times here as the lot is shared with other businesses. Street parking is available nearby. I liked the dim sum style of ordering, write down the number of the teams you want on a paper that you turn into the waiter is always satisfying to me. The stay as long and order as much as you like vibes are easy to keep going here as none of the dishes are too big to sink you. The staff made sure to check on us multiple times and they have a good list of what menu items were popular. I'll say that there's not a ton of variation here, but plenty of choices to make when ordering. It's good to reference the online menu to see pictures of some dishes you might be unsure of. The long and short of it is, they did excellent XLB, the soup dumplings stayed together well and came in a group of 8. The QBao is also very pleasant and definitely worth trying. My family and I finally got the opportunity to eat here on a busy Saturday night, and liked our dinner. Even though they were busy, we were able to get a table for 6 right away. The interior is very brightly lit but a bit loud, and service was very attentive. We got an assortment of items to share family-style, and of course you must try their soup dumplings. We got the pork and crab soup dumplings. They came out piping hot and had a nice chewy texture. The Q-bao pan fried buns were also good. What a treat to find a place like this without driving all the way to Katy or Chinatown! This is a popular chain that has been on my list since its debut in Houston. There will be a line on Saturday, but it's easy to put your name on the list and check on status. We waited about 30-40 minutes during peak time. Once seated, the ordering process is quick as you get to mark your menu items like dim-sum style. Food comes out pretty quickly once you place your order. Some notable favorites: boiled wontons with chili sauce and xiao long bao for dumpling orders. Kale (sesame dressing was better than garlic), dan dan noodles, and green onion pancakes were good to have on the side. My family enjoyed the spicy cucumber salad, though it wasn't really for my taste. I wasn't as impressed with the Q-BAO as much as I thought considering it was a "must try" item on the menu. The banana naan bread was also too greasy for me, so I do with there were more dessert options, but the variety of entrees are plenty to feed your tummy. My girl friends and I came here for dinner on a Sunday at around 5 PM, and there was a bit of a wait. It was also busier than I expected for this time because we thought it was an earlier dinner time. You order by writing the quantity of each menu item on the paper that's given at the table. It reminds me of ordering at a dim sum place. After seeing this place featured on so many Insta reels and missing out on the opportunity to try it while in Seattle, I finally got the chance to try it with some of the most important people to me! We came here on a busy Saturday night with a group of 6 and our wait time was quoted at 33-48 minutes via Yelp. It ended up being closer to the 48, as the place is somewhat small and larger tables over 4 are limited. We ordered the green onion pancake, spicy beef pancake roll, pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings), pork and crab xiao long bao, Q-Bao (pan fried pork buns), fried wontons w/ chili sauce, chicken pot stickers, beef pot stickers, dan dan noodles, spicy ma la noodles, chicken & vegetable wontons in chicken broth, and sweet & sour cucumber. Everything was SO GOOD. Flavor and texture, you can tell everything is made fresh in-house. The dough has the perfect chewy consistency, and the fillings all came out piping hot and flavorful. My favorite was the Q-Bao, as this was a slight twist to the baos I grew up eating as a kid, just with a pan-fried bottom that gave it a nice crisp - a good contrast from the chewy doughy top. The pan fried potstickers were delicious. Perfectly crisp on the outside, with plenty of filling on the inside. These are a staple and a must-order for any visit here. The green onion pancake was nice and crispy, and I enjoyed even more the beef pancake roll, which was the pancake wrapped around some cuts of beef and cabbage. This was a great idea, and I'm inspired to make this at home as a simple lunch! The noods were also delicious. They had the chewy texture consistent with fresh-made noodles. Warning for the dan dan noodles: these do have a slight kick to them, so beware if you have a low spice tolerance. The spicy ma la noodles weren't too spicy in my opinion, and are a good go-to if I had to pick one noodle dish of them all. The sweet & sour cucumber was presented beautifully, cut into a spiral. It's neat to see the accordion-like form of a Korean favorite, think of the hurricane potatoes that are famous at the Rodeo. Regarding the sauce, there's no pre-made dumpling sauce like you'd be used to seeing in other restaurants or grocery store shelves. It's up to you to concoct your own dumpling sauce mixture, as they give you bottles of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil at the table. My main complaint was the service and timing of food coming out to the table. I'd compare this to a dim-sum style of ordering, where you mark all of your selections on a sheet, submit to the server, and have everything come out one-by-one as they mark it off on the sheet. As such, everything did come out one-by-one and in a very random order too. The pork soup dumplings came out 15 minutes later than the pork and crab soup dumplings. We ordered a second order of Q-Bao after-the-fact since they were so good, but we waited a good 20 minutes for those to come out, well after we finished our food. It took a little while to flag down a server to even submit our order selections. And it doesn't seem that each table has one or two servers assigned to them - it's just a free-for-all with whoever is available to help at different tables, which made things a little more confusing. I'm happy that this place opened up right in midtown, where there aren't too many options for quality Asian food. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back many more visits to get me some more Q-Bao, noods, and dumps, but will wait a bit for them to work out the service kinks. read more

I kept seeing this place pop up on my IG feed. With a dumpling and noodle craving, I thought today was a good day to give it a try. There was two of us. We ordered all their popular dishes. Here's what we ordered and comments on each: 1) Pork & Crab Soup Dumplings - One of the main reasons I wanted to try this place! It has the familiar soup dumplings taste. Good flavor and soup. 2) Dan Dan Noodles - I loved the string ones of these noodles. Usually I'm not a fan of the Mala Sichuan flavor but this was tasty. It wasn't spicy to me either which works because I usually eat pretty mild heat. 3) Sweet & Sour Cucumbers - I love the contrast of sweet and sour. Over cucumbers, it was refreshing. Thought this paired so well with the Dan Dan noodles. 4) Q Bao - I didn't really know what to expect here. It does have the steamed white bun texture but much smoother and the bottom is crispy. Inside was a beef patty. The patty, along with its juices hitting the side of the bun was delicious. 5) Pan Fried Dumplings - Classic pork dumpling and shrimp dumpling taste. I've never had it with so much crispiness to one side. Thought that was an interesting take and still tasted good. Also like the pickled veggies that it comes with. The waiter had said his favorite was chicken so will have to try that next time. Total for everything including a soda came out to be around $40ish which is not bad at all. Service was good. We got seated immediately. As soon as I completed the order sheet, I submitted it to one of the staff. Food came out as expected. Ambiance wise, the place is pretty spacious especially being located in Midtown. We did go for lunch on a Friday so it was busy. The seating is a bit close to other parties but we made it work. Finally got to try dough zone today for lunch. This Washington based chain was "written off" by some local journalist claiming Houston is too much of a food city for them to thrive in. The place is situated in the corner of a strip in Midtown - the space used to be a beloved wine bar. Parking was plentiful which is a plus when dining in the area. We came right when they opened and got seated right away, although the place got really packed and a wait was noticeable halfway through our meal. We got the pork and crab XLB, jianbing guo zi, Q bao, sweet and sour cucumbers, pork wontons with chili sauce, pork and shrimp pot stickers, beef stew noodle soup and banana naan bread. Everything was good and came out fast. We've had better xlb but theirs had good flavor, could be juicier and the skin could be thinner but overall not bad. The jianbing was good - basically a folded omelette with a crunchy inside. The beef stew and banana naan were ok and probably better off not ordering them. One can say "I can get better Chinese food in Chinatown", which is 100% true but for inner loopers like me this place is such a bargain price- wise and location-wise. I came here on a Friday night and it was Jam Pack! This place is definitely getting some attention. I put myself in the self-kiosk waitlist and waited for 15-20 minutes (There's no reservation). The interior was really nice and give off more of an up-scale soup dumpling restaurant. It's almost Din Tai Fung's competitor! Nonetheless, the food was all deliciously amazing! I have been to Dough Zone dumpling in Seattle and the SF Bay Area before this one. This is the only one that I didn't wait for a table. This location is more spacious than other locations, so the seating is more comfortable and the wait time is much shorter. The steamed broccoli is a surprising delight. It looks like a complete intact broccoli but it was cooked and cut into pieces, then put back to form a complete broccoli. Amazing, tender and healthy broccoli with a surprising presentation! It's known for the Q-Bao and the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) which are both consistent offerings across its locations. You can't go wrong with the signature dishes and I recommend the green onion pancake to start for the table as well. Make a little soy sauce-chili oil mix to dip in and enjoy sharing with a small group if you can. Service was a little rougher at this location because it's harder to order a second round of dumplings with only one paper. I'd recommend to them to give a fresh ordering paper after the first order. I'm a very adventurous person when it comes to food and I have cooked many different food from other countries so I recognize flavors more than average and the ginger paste is a nice touch to clean your palette. I don't know the name of the guy but this was me first visit and he was awesome.. If you want a recommendation just scan the QR code at the table and the first thing on the menu are the recommendations. The only reason I wouldn't give this place 5 stars is because I don't comprehend why they serve room temperature water. The were coated in a delicious marinade, and the shape made them so fun to eat. The pork soup dumplings were probably the star of the show: hot, juicy, and flavorful. We were very impressed with the delicious food and great service. My favorite was the xiao long bao, and we got both pork as well as crab and pork. I would say flavor and texturally it compares more to sturdier more robust NYC xlb like Joe Shanghai rather than the more delicate LA xlb like Din Tai Fung. I've been to Seattle a few times and Dough Zone has always popped up on the recommended restaurants, however, I've never had the chance to go. I was so excited to see they chose to open up a store in Houston as we don't have many options here for soup dumplings. We came on a weekday for lunch without a reservation. For food we had the: Pork and Crab XLB: 5/5 these were very juicy and the filling was flavorful. These actually might be my new favorite soup dumplings in Houston. Beef roll: 5/5 The scallion pancake was light and very flaky. The beef inside was shredded which made it easy to eat. Chili wonton: 4/5 These were solid but there wasn't anything that really stood out to me Dan dan noodles: 4.5/5 The noodle texture is perfect. Super bouncy and cooked perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of Sichuan/Mala spice in general but despite that these were still really good We ended up feeling very content with the amount of food we ordered. We also saw they have a grand opening special for 50% off frozen soup dumplings..so of course we left with 60 of them. I definitely recommend this spot and can't wait to come back again! read more

This is a great new dumpling place in Houston. In my opinion, there can never be too many dumpling spots. Walking in, we were greeted right away and led to our table. The interior is open with lots of large windows on one side of the room. The restrooms are spacious and really nice too! I feel like a nice restroom is usually bonus. There are lots of options on the menu and our waitress was quite helpful with her suggestions. She also checked on us often throughout our meal to make sure we were good. For starters, our table ordered sweet and sour cucumbers and scallion pancakes. It seemed like every table had an order of cucumbers and I can see why. Each serving comes with two thin cucumbers sliced in a cool spirl pattern and marinated in a sweet and sour sauce. It was crunchy and very refreshing. I actually used it to clean my palate in between spicy noodle bites. The scallion pancakes were crispy and did not feel too oily. Very good as a snack. For dumplings, we chose the classic xiao long bao, q bao, and pan fried dumplings with sweet spicy garlic sauce. The xiao long bao came out in the classic bao container steaming hot. The inside was filled was juicy and flavorful with a good portion of soup. The dumpling was good on its own but dipping in the soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil mixture elevated the flavors. Q baos are almost like the steamed baos at dim sum but pan fried to get a crispy bottom. This gives it a nice crunch on the bottom. The inside was filled with pork and also a bit of thick sauce too. Juicy and delicious. Pan fried dumplings also had a nice crunch on the bottom but the star was the sweet and spicy garlic sauce. Bit too sweet, not too spicy, but it went really well with the dumpling. I also tried the dan dan noodles which is a Szechuan specialty. The sauce is spiced using peppercorns which don't provide an immmediately hit but is more of a slow burn. My first two bites, I thought the flavor was excellent with a slight hint of spice. After a minute, my entire mouth felt slightly numb. It was definitely spicy but not the kind that makes you cough. Towards the end, I got a lot of sour flavor which hung out in my throat. I wasn't a fan of that part but the rest was great. I will definitely be back for more! read more

Great place. I'm from LA so Din Tai Fung is the spot for dumplings and I would say for Houston this is as close to it as you are going to get. The flavor, style, service etc. I didn't give 5 stars as for me 5 stars would mean it's the best of the best and they are so close but nothing beats Din Tai Fung for me. Sorry Dough zone, but either way still a great spot and happy to have found something "almost" as equally great. read more

I was very excited to try Dough Zone but felt the food was overall just okay. We tried the Dan Dan noodles, the pan fried pork dumplings, the steamed vegetable dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. The flavor of the Dan Dan noodles was spicy good but missing that extra savory flavor as it didn't come with any meat in the dish. The taste of the steamed vegetable dumplings and pan fried pork dumplings were good, but the crispy skirt looked much more amazing than it tasted. The scallion pancakes were okay too, very flaky and a little dry. We came during lunch and were quickly seated. The food came out reasonably fast. Pricing is reasonable, and it was easy to find a parking spot. The ambiance is casual. read more

Dough Zone is originally from Seattle and I am so glad they finally came to Houston! The place is spacious with warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted immediately and shown to our table. You can also order from the self ordering machines as well. Their dumplings are super tasty and fresh. The dough is surprisingly good, not too powdery iykwim. I love their wonton in chili sauce. Those hit home for me! Each dish costs around $6-$10 which is super affordable. They also offer boba but I haven't got to try them yet cuz we were full afterwards. Overall, not bad at all! We will def be back to try other items on their menu. read more

What a fun experience! Some friends & I were looking for a quick & easy lunch and came across this family style option that worked for us. It was great to get a couple different options for everyone to try given the portions. The service was efficient & attentive and the atmosphere was chill and open. We were the only large party on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch time so we got our food quickly. Albeit, I do wish the food was a bit hotter, given some of the soup dumplings were hot & steamy but other items like the baos & noodle soup were a bit closer to room temperature. The food was fresh and hot, but for some reason it didn't hit as hard as the Uptown location. The service was okay for 5pm because they didn't refill my water much when they saw me ordered the plum juice, leaving me kinda thirsty for water during my dine in. The restaurant is clean and pretty chill, great for a small group dining. read more
