    Cheesesteak Fries
    Kevin R.

The best thing I can say about this place is the presentation of the food is great. The food on the other hand just did not meet the standards of even being just okay. The Philly was bland and lackluster. The buffalo wings, bland with no kind of kick and the blue cheese was not good at all. The two saving graces were the chicken cheesesteak fries and the western smash burger. The fries were good. Nothing to wow you but better than just about everything else I had tried thus far. The smash burger was bland but the bbq sauce on it gave it enough taste to be manageable. The one thing missing here was flavor. Everything was just too bland. I'm from the east coast so maybe that's why?

solid place to get a slice. Im from east coast so im bias when it comes to NY style pizza. While i wouldn't categorize it as NY style, it was still pretty good. The guy also offered me their homemade ranch as a dipping sauce and it tasted good as well. I got a cheese and pepperoni slice. theres a number of seating available. Their menu has a wide range of cheesesteaks, pizzas and appetizers. Staff was really nice. Street parking or paid parking lot. Not sure how restroom was since i didnt use it. Would come back again

The hubs and I gave this place a try. When we walked in we instantly recognized two customers- long time locals and friends. The guy cooking knew our friends name - so that was a good sign for us. I had been craving gyros - did not disappoint! The meat was flavorful and tender. The tzatziki sauce was scratch made and complimented the meat perfectly. The fries were super crisp and delicious. The hubs had the bacon blue cheese burger, he loved it. The self serving station was clean and organized. There were chalk walls and there were messages about a local guy who recently passed away, it's always nice when the locals feel good about a place like this. Definitely want to come back and give the pizza a try. Clean bathrooms were also a definite plus.

Doughboy's Grill has opened in OB where a Middle Eastern eatery used to reside. Both the exterior and interior have been brightened up with red paint. The L-shaped dining area featured countertop bar seating for six customers while several tables could hold another couple of dozen diners. Pizza, smash burgers, cheesesteaks, loaded fries, salads, and a sub made up the menu categories. A few people were ahead of me in line when I arrived, one of which ordered the same item as I chose. From the list of four cheesesteaks, I selected the regular Ribeye version which cost $13.99. Caramelized onions, mozzarella, and provolone cheese topped the chopped ribeye steak. The sandwich was served on waxed paper inside a plastic basket. It was a little shorter than a footlong in length, however the meat was juicy coming hot off the grill. The reason why I couldn't elevate my rating to a full four stars was the inconsistent closing time that I encountered more than once. According to their hours of operation, the business should be open until 9 pm on Monday to Saturday. I came by multiple times in which the doors were already locked, and the lights were off by 8 pm. I wish the management would update the hours on Google and this platform because you have to drive deep into the heart of this neighborhood to reach Doughboy's Grill.

So good! The service was excellent! Both of the gentlemen working were extremely friend and helpful. We came on 12/20 in the afternoon. My hubby ordered the triple smash and I got the torpedo sub. Both were very well made. The sub was huge, so I ate it over two days. We ate inside so I got a draft beer as well and it was nice and cold. When we left, they were so friendly and made us feel like regulars when it was our first visit. There were quite a few people eating as well and some people sitting at the bar. Cool place.

Hey now, there's a new kid in town in Ocean Beach and they are making some tasty smash burgers and pickle pizza. Yes! I said pickle pizza. I am telling you, don't knock it until you try it. When I walked up to the counter, I noticed a new menu item posted called the G.T.A. Smashed Burger with garlic truffle aioli, hence the name. The smashed burger also came with griddled onions, American cheese, pickle chips, and a delicious house chuck and brisket ground beef patty. The burger cost $10.99 plus tax. I notice that they offered pickle pizza, so I had a slice of that, too. I had to try the pickle pizza. The GTA smash burger was terrific. The quality burger was well seasoned and delicious. I loved the GTA sauce. The truffle sauce was subtle and worked very well in the burger. The griddles onions were a winner, too. That had great flavor and texture. The burger came on a well toasted brioche bun. It was a great burger. I've tried the pickle pizza at place in East County San Diego and it was very good. This slice was just as good. Somehow, the sourness of the pickles and the milkiness of the cheese works very well together. The crust was of the thin variety and offered a nice subtle chew. The service is very friendly. After talking to the staff, I learned that they focus on quality ingredients and simple preparations. It certainly works. The offer a good amount of inside seating and several beers taps as well.

All of the food was so amazing that I literally burnt my mouth trying to eat everything. Had a steak cheesesteak, a chicken cheesesteak, two different pizzas and everything was so amazing. This is such a sleeper cell. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but food is amazing, people are amazing. Can't say enough about them. If you're in O.B.- try this spot! I'm IN!

This was honestly my first time ever leaving a review because the food and customer service were THAT good. Huge shoutout to Doughboys Grill and especially the owner David "Doughboy" for being extremely helpful and having some of the best customer service I've had in a long time. You can tell they actually care about their customers and the quality of their food. I got the pastrami fries, the breakfast smash burger (I think it was the American Smash Burger), and the 3pc buffalo wings. The buffalo wings were so good I literally had to order more to go, and Doughboy even hooked it up for us. My wife got the GTA and the BBQ wings, which were amazing too. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and way better than expected. Definitely one of those spots you keep coming back to. We will 100% be back multiple times soon. Highly recommend this place if you want great food and even better people.

Tried the chicken sandwich today at Doughboys Grill and it was honestly one of the better ones I've had in a while. The chicken was huge, crispy, and juicy without feeling too greasy. The bun was soft, the fries were solid, and the onion rings were actually really good too. Portion size was great and the whole meal felt worth it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to if I'm craving a good chicken sandwich.

Stopped in because the restaurant we were going to had a long wait and prices were a bit higher than we expected. But I'm glad we did. The food was affordable for the quality, quick service, and portion sizes. My partner ordered a burger (I can't remember which one) and onion rings, and I ordered a cheesesteak and tots. While I can't speak for the burger itself, it did look juicy. My cheesesteak was delicious and the tots were nice and crispy. The restaurant was nice inside, nothing particularly special but also not run down or a place to avoid. Overall, I'm glad we stopped in. I would definitely visit again on a return trip to San Diego.

Like another review said, straight GAS. This place was so good. The smash burger, top tier and the Philly fries with pastrami were insane. On top of the great food the customer service was quick and so hospitable. 10/10 would recommend.

    Ribeye Cheesesteak
    Jackie B.

Cheesesteak was loaded and piping hot with fresh ribeye they bring in themselves, lots of topping options. The service and staff are very friendly and generous - was able to try a slice of their pepperoni pizza, garlic aioli sauce and their pizza pillows!!! Hard Cider was refreshingly cold after a day in the sun at the beach, I felt like a celebrity great vibe inside, can't wait to try a double smash burger next and soon! Definitely recommend - happy they're in OB! *ADDED* back a day later because the ocean and sun makes you thirsty & hungry as a local, had the Bacon Blue Cheese double smash burger -- I inhaled it so fast. 100/10 - incredible. Bun was steaming hot and SOFT, salty bacon, blue cheese and American + mayo on some piping hot perfectly crispy patties. Perfect perfect.

Amazing food amazing people. So glad we walked in and tried this place. Very casual restaurant near the beach. Plenty of seating. Newer restaurant and great prices and very generous portions. My family loved everything we ordered.

After a long day at the beach, we ordered a bottle of wine, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't ridiculously overpriced. Sitting outside, enjoying a glass of wine and watching Little Italy come alive was exactly what we needed. Our server was exceptional. The service was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. But let's talk about the food... The food was AMAZING. We ordered several different things, and everything we tried was delicious, but the pappardelle with short ribs was the standout. The pasta was absolutely fantastic--rich, comforting, and exactly the kind of Italian comfort food you want at the end of a long day. And then there was the dessert case... Oh. My. Goodness. Everything in that case looked like it was personally designed to make you regret saying, "No, we're too full for dessert." Nonna was exactly what we were hoping for that evening: great food, great service, a beautiful Little Italy setting, and a relaxed atmosphere where we could sit outside and enjoy ourselves. I can't wait to go back and eat some more Italian comfort food--and next time, I'm getting the tiramisu.

It was a Friday evening and every restaurant on the street was full and vibrant. You could Yelp these places all day long and it would be hard to choose. There's so many great restaurants around Little Italy. Mimmo's reached out and called us in. There were pretty white tablecloths, the hostess was smiling ready to answer any questions and of course, the menu looked wonderful. Voilà! We'd found our spot. Our waiter was so personable and had all the answers to our inquiries. He suggested items and even answered honestly when needed. I got a Le Pécora Nera Sangria (fizzy blackberry with lemon). Tasty, but too many blackberry seeds coming up the straw. I'd get another one next time. For the appetizers: RISOTTO ARANCINI (a MUST get) - these were absolutely delicious. Four good size bread crumbed fried balls of risotto sitting in the restaurant's own tomato gravy. HOMEMADE FOCACCIA WITH DIPPING OIL (yes, that's the official name) - this is a basket of super soft, warm focaccia bread for a great price. I would get it no matter what main course you're getting! It soaks up every sauce and it's just delicious. MAIN: BAKED LASAGNA (meat) - with the two appetizers this is the perfect size for both of us. No need to get one per person! It was absolutely wonderful. I would get it again. All in all, I'd definitely go back. The food was absolutely delicious and flavorful and the employees we came in contact with were great as well. We didn't want to sit at a table right next to the hundreds of people walking by, I don't like that, but there are plenty other options one row in or inside the restaurant. A solid recommendation on my part.
