Sat outside - not busy after 830 on a Sunday night but service was still pleasant and friendly (I didn't feel I was keeping them up late). My husband and I were looking for a place to have dinner before a movie nearby, so we were pleased to learn that The Mixer had moved into the previous location of Slater's 50/50. We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night with a reservation, that was clearly not needed, as there were only a couple of other parties dining at that time. We were greeted and seated quickly. I noticed that many of the booths were duct taped due to what appeared to be wear and tear, which was odd as I had been under the impression that there was a recent remodel. There were some cute lighted signs around, otherwise the decor was pretty plain Our service started out great. Our server was friendly and checked in on us regularly. I wasn't too thrilled by the cocktail menu, as many of them sounded quite sweet. I did settle on a Southern Charm (peach and bourbon cocktail) and my husband had a Yo Daddy (twist on an old fashioned). It took a bit longer than expected for our drinks to arrive. They were good, more simple cocktails, but still good. I love pickles, so my husband and I ordered the Big Dill Energy appetizer (fried pickles with dipping sauce). I would say it was also good... not amazing, but good. For dinner I ordered the Mediterranean Salad with chicken added. My husband ordered the Stay Classy Burger with spicy fries. At first I liked that my salad had lots of ingredients, with pesto and lot of veggies and balsamic, but it was really a little too mixed up with maybe too many flavors. My husband thought the burger was decent, but felt that it was just a basic burger. We both enjoyed the spicy fries. At the end of the meal, our server was nowhere to be found. We started with a couple of cocktails, I had the Whiskey Tango, my wife had a Bloody Mary. The Whiskey Tango was very refreshing, her Bloody was like a meal, big strip of thick cut bacon, tomatoes and pepperoncini's on a bamboo skewer. We ordered the Bruschetta Confit, The Mixer Burger, and fries. All of it was VERY GOOD! The Bruschetta ingredients were fresh, perfectly balanced, and well presented. The Mixer Burger was what a hamburger should taste like! It was a double patty smash burger, with Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and a really perfect bun. This burger is high on my list of hamburgers in San Diego. The fries were battered great on the outside, perfectly fried, and nice and fluffy on the inside. I wish I would have taken pictures of the bar, so many beer taps! I had a Red Trolley Ale with the food, it was nice and cold, and very refreshing. They manage to get the crispness of a smash burger while preserving the density of a normal burger. Top that with top tier cheese and fresh accoutrements and you're a new resident of flavortown. The ownership and staff are still the same, however the former Slater's 50/50 in Liberty Station has now been rebranded to The Mixer (inspired by the Catalina Wine Mixer). Much of the existing signage remained, and only a couple of small banners near the entrance indicated the presence of The Mixer. The place continues to be a bar and grill where people will come to watch various sporting events on the flat screen TVs. The biggest change to the menu was the removal of the beef and bacon patties in the signature burgers which was how the 50/50 part of the previous business name was derived. Smash burgers were now the featured items of which there were four varieties that each cost $11.50. The rest of the menu categories were typical... shareables, burgers, salads, sandwiches, chicken, fries, and desserts. After taking a spot at the bar and consulting with the bartender (owner?), I picked the Butter Burger and a side of french fries which was sold a la carte. There may have been a staffing issue that day because it took almost half an hour for my food to be ready which was long for a burger and fries. The place was maybe 1/3 filled with customers so the volume of orders shouldn't have been a factor. Two smashed patties were grilled with onions, topped with American cheese, and coated with European butter and garlic sauce. This was all served on a potato bun. The fries were seasoned, but they were pricey at $6.25 for the basket that included a cup of ranch dressing for dipping. The other sides like onion rings, sweet potato fries, and tater tots were even more expensive at $8.50 each. I'm not sure why there was a difference for tater tots as many spots charge the same as fries. The burger was soft and gooey from the cheese and butter. I don't think I could have consumed one much larger than the version they had here. The fries were nothing special except for the seasoning. For the food quality, price and service, it was a three star dining experience at The Mixer. read more

Everything is decent-sized and good for me, but my Son and wife said that for them The Skirt burger and The Mixer smash burger had too much mustard taste on it. The server didn't bother to check in on us, it took time for her to take our order and she only came by after we ate to see if we were done and needed anything else. I had invited a friend to lunch. We looked at Wildflour but it wasn't what we wanted. We had been to con Pane (wish they had salads) and I remembered that Slater's was next door. It is gone so we tried The Mixer. The menu had a variety so we decided to try it. They had patio and indoor seating. My whole party had food allergies, mine being severe. We were treated SO WELL by our server and the food was delicious. I got the pulled chicken sandwich and was assured it was cooked separate from all other food to accommodate my allergies. I used to love Slater's, but since it had changed hands, I had not been back. I heard both about good things. I was kind of skeptical, but I went for a happy hour so I thought I can't be too bad. They had had an offer on in Kind which I thought I would try. It was a very odd experience when I asked for a skinny margarita the gentleman who serviced us basically said he had no sour. He had no triple sec, and that he would make me a skinny margarita, which was basically tequila summer and I said sure whatever you can do would be great that I had left my cell phone at home. I grabbed it came back. The gentleman had a horrible disposition I asked his name he wouldn't give it to me. He said he would give me the card with the owner's name on it and then he gave me a generic card. I later found out his name was Pete and he proceeded to be super rude. I don't think I'll be coming back here as the restaurant only had three customers in it. One employee , my two top and one other gentleman who copied my order on the bar so to treat someone so horribly when you have no customers is completely unacceptable. The menu caught my attention right away because the item names were really unique and fun. We ordered the Spicy Smash, the Mixer Burger with garlic parm, and the cheesy fries. The burgers were definitely the highlight. The patties had that nice crispy edge and both burgers were full of flavor. The Spicy Smash had a good kick and the garlic parm on the Mixer Burger was really tasty. The cheesy fries were good, but the burgers were the real star. Now about the food: Everything is a la carte. So, the burger is $13.50, but then you have to add fries for $6.50. My hubby ordered a burger and my son ordered a chicken sandwich. I ordered the classic sandwich. We also ordered two baskets of fries, Brussel sprouts for an appetizer and my son ordered an Oreo shake after dinner. We all enjoyed our food, but my sandwich was by the far the BEST! My recommendation is to ask for a side of purple onion because it does not come inside of it... trust me ! It makes all the difference! The sandwich is BIG! And sooooo good! The Brussels were good too, but honestly could use feta cheese sprinkled on top to offset some of the bitterness of the veggie... but nonetheless, still good. My family enjoyed their burgers as well. We attended a Cake Event that was held at The Mixer Restaurant / Bar at Liberty Station. They offer indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of parking. The Mixer has a chill vibe and you're greeted the moment you walk in. The wait staff was so welcoming. There was plenty of seating at the bar or in the dining area. Their menu had various offerings from burgers, sandwiches, salads, fries and beverages. On the weekends, they have a brunch menu that runs till 2pm. At our event we wanted to have something to nibble on, so we ordered their Garlic Fries, Chicken Tenders from the kids menu and the Call Me Daddy Burger. The food came out hot and fresh right to our table. As we sat and ate and mingled with other Cake guests, there were plenty of TV screen around so you can watch the FIFA world cup or other sporting events. Families came in to eat and we loved that their menu accommodated kids of all ages. The food looked great as it was being served at other tables, so we were happy with what we ordered. My husband and I came to the mixer yesterday after seeing the owner on tik tok saying they may not be open in 30 days. We like to support family own businesses. I've doordashed smash burgers from this place a few times and they were pretty good.. overly greasy though. I ordered the Brussel sprout app and they arrived in a literal swamp of grease. They're supposed to be someone charred I'm guessing.. but the order I received was straight up burnt and swimming in grease. Fried pickles are over breaded and over cooked. Fries were stale as well. Seems like they were fried and then dipped back into the fryer to warm up before sending the order out. (I live less than a mile away.. food should be fresh at delivery) This brings me to our visit to The Mixer. We were greeted at the door by our waitress. She had us sit and wait a few minutes for a table.. not big deal what so ever. I watched her removed a wet and dirty bus tub from the table we were going to be seated at. She came back to "clean" the table with literally just a stack of napkins. No sanitation. Just spreading dirty bus tub water all over the table and seats. Her and the one other waitress seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with the 6-8 tables that were in the restaurant. We ordered the Fun Dip app and that was delish! Loved everything about the bread bowl. Our entrees however.. oof. My husband ordered a 1/3 lb $13 burger (fries not included) just for it to come out as what seemed to be a frozen burger patty with kraft cheese and a really soggy bun. No parchment paper, no toothpick to hold the sandwich together, no pickle or something on the side to make the dish look way less plain. Ambiance was also eh okay. My husband and I were confused as to who this restaurant is trying to bring in. The menu is quite large and all over the place and full of fried greasy food. The LED lights with Christmas lights draped all over the place is a very interesting choice. I think the removal of the 30 strands of Christmas lights would really make the inside of this place look way less tacky. You can't mix sports bar with LED signs, Christmas lights, fake foliage on the wall, disco ball planters, and then sports flags hanging from the walls dive bar style. We came here at Happy Hour on Thursday around 5:30pm. There was only one person running the front of the house and I felt bad because he got slammed with a bunch of people all coming in at once (including us). Most of the people sat outside which is nice and spacious. Like many people have said it still looks like the old Slaters. There were a few people seated inside and at the bar. Given there was only one person working the front we had to wait a bit which was fine bc we were not in a rush and we can sympathize. :0) We ended up ordering the Flavor Spheres and 2 different wings (Buffalo and Maple Bacon [out of curiosity]). All the food came out at once which was great. The Flavor Spheres were delicious....great dipping sauce for the veggies from our wings. Both of the wings were also very good. I did not expect to like the Maple Bacon wings but they were surprisingly good. I'm not really into 'sweet' flavored wings but that combo was nice. I'm bummed I forgot to take pics of the appetizers we ordered. DAMMIT! Oh well I at least remembered to take pics of our desserts. The Twinkies were exactly as expected...taken out of the wrappers and decorated with whipped cream. Nothing to write home about. The Churro Dulce De Leche however was not what we expected....and super yummy! I was expecting a churro to come out but this was way better. The ice cream really complements the cake because it is very rich and then you get that surprise of caramel in the middle. YUM! Definitely highly recommend trying the Churro dessert. They've changed both the name and the menu. I normally get a plain burger, I couldn't find it on the menu so got the skirt burger instead, thankfully the burgers taste just as good as Slaters!
