I tried to make an appointment but was told it's first come, first serve basis and that it only took 10 minutes so appointments weren't really necessary. As already stated this is a check only station, it wasn't required for me yet but it was close to work so I headed over after work. The price was kind of high, I printed the $30 off coupon and it was still $60. I kicked myself when I got home and checked the mail because in the "junk mail" there were coupons for two different places for $40 :-( (hence the 4 instead of 5 stars). Everyone was very polite and professional. Including the time it took me to fill out the paperwork I was there a total of 25-30 minutes. WOW. This company really is a piece of work. Implying that I am reviewing another business. First, I have a receipt and can prove when I was there. Second, someone called the number I left on my invoice and spoke to my significant other saying that he'd refund me the difference from what the other gal was given. Completely inconsistent and trying to cover up story after story with something else. I don't want your money. You were out of line in calling, your staff was threatening. I came to this place for the first smog check my car need to renew registration. After the smog check, they told me the one of computer pin was broken. I went to my car and found out that all computer checking lights were on(tire, engine...) I went back to talk to them, and they told me it was like that before, which was not.. Wow! There was only one person manning Discount Smog Check Center, and yet he slayed 4 walk-in smog checks in under an hour! At first, he was just taking payments from all walk in customers. (I'm 2nd in line) I was thinks the other customers would probably wait here an hour or so. Do not go here. Customer service is horrible and the staff is rude. I called today around 11:50am to get my smog done and I asked if the company gave military discount (considering the shop is so close to Camp Parks Army Post) and the person on the phone said that he would charge more? I asked him, charge more? Why is that? He then hung up! I ended up going to a shop in San Ramon for the same price. I was in this place a couple weeks ago, yet waited until today to catch up on some reviews after my car smog experience would be over. This place offers coupons, but I never pay attention to auto coupons outside of a dealer because they usually live up to their name of being "sucker teasers." In the case of coupons from this place which I noticed another person waving around, it read "30 Off". So I'm thinking, $30 of of what price? Places do that to make it sound like a great deal, but then they have highly inflated prices. The wife said I should go here from the suggestion of her friend, but I keep in mind her friend is really stupid when it comes to cars. As I waited and listened to another customer complain about some unhappy result and watched the reply of the service rep, I decided to go back out to the car and research this place some more on my cell phone. I'm glad I did. Just as what I saw, other reviewers here are complaining about the arrogance and rudeness of service reps. It seems to be a common theme that if the rep doesn't like what they hear from a customer, the first response is to tell the customer to get out of their shop! Then I saw the comment from the person who asked if there was a military discount and the reply was that he should charge more for military. That does it for me (as an X Navy Veteran). I left the place. I don't expect reps to kiss my ring as I wait for service, but I expect common courtesy and if there is a problem, I expect an attempt to resolve it instead of hearing to get out of the shop. Good thing he didn't tell me that because if he did then my review would be from jail because I'd smack the crap out of him. My suggestion is that if you want to be treated as though the shop is doing you a big favor by taking your money, then this is the place for you. From what I saw, I left quickly and won't go back. Lastly, I have a new plan. If you need my service and you are a smog service rep, then I will charge you double ! Take some of your own medicine. fyi, I went to another place and got EXCEPTIONAL service from GREAT guys and no playing around with prices. Poor customer service!!! Came in for a smog check that was extremely quick, so quick that it made me question if anything was even done. But it is not my field to say, just an observation. Anyhow, upon leaving I looked at my receipt and found a discrepancy and went in to ask about it. All I needed was a simple explanation of the extra charges, which are probably random made up fees but instead was told rudely by the guy to look at the paper that was given to me and turned around and left. Bottom-line: I would not go out of my way for this shop. But if it is located conveniently, don't bother to research too much and just go there. This whole industry seems to be known for poor customer experience and you're unlikely to find much better. Make sure you have a printed Coupon and call ahead for the "actual" price. My experience: Over the years, I have learned to call and ask the actual cost of Smog check for "my specific vehicle", even if there is a printed coupon with a printed price. Last year I took my 3 vehicles to this place, and followed the same practice. I had an extremely rude and dry, but otherwise efficient service. This time too, I called ahead and was told the extra cost for a Minivan is $10. I am not certain a Minivan is any different from a car from their perspective, but almost everyone charges more for it, so I was expecting it. However, I went in one day later and the extra became $15. I informed the person politely about my call and he said the offer keeps changing. This was a new one! :-) Well, I was not going to argue for $5 but it felt cheap and opportunistic. These businesses are not expecting most people to come back for at least a year, so customer experience does not seem to matter. But it is pretty poor business acumen because the feeling of being ripped off is one of the reasons people write Yelp reviews. I do want to mention that the work was very quick and efficient, and the dealing was reasonably polite. I was reading Yelp reviews to see if others had similar experiences. In one, the owner used the word "Christian" to question someone's dishonesty. I found it strange to have him use religion in a business dealing, but more important, their business seems to be built on trying to squeeze money from customers in one way or another; is that honesty? The owner also mentions video recording with sound. I have been here four times and see that most customers assume they are alone and have private phone conversations in the waiting area. I also seen many women. I assume he has a sign to warn them. I am not very observant so did not notice it, but I wonder if it is prominent enough for others to notice. read more
