I have been a "Platinum" member of this company for 2, perhaps the last 3 years. During that time, I was truly amazed by the outstanding work of their technicians. Of late, however, I am a bit concerned with their "front office" staff. About 1 1/2 or 2 weeks ago or so, I sent two separate e-mails on the Douglas website asking about the upcoming Spring HVAC tune up, as in when it will be scheduled. Never received a reply. I then decided to call and was told that they were in the process of changing to a new system and probably never saw the e-mails. That's not good, is it! Anyway, I proceeded to schedule my appointment, requesting Edward, one of our preferred technicians. It was scheduled for yesterday 5/3/22. Edward was scheduled to be at our home between the hours of 7 to 11am. Having had no Edward or no calls by around 11:45am, I called the office, only to be told that Edward no longer works there. What??? I was told he worked there when I made the appointment but that then he no longer worked at Douglas now! So, had I not called, I would have been waiting the entire day for Edward with no one coming since no one from the office bothered to call us to tell us that they had to reschedule. I guess it's the "second that's not good!" I trust in this company because I trust in their service by their technicians. Truly hope that the front office improves in the way they handle customer inquiries, whether Platinum members or not, in a more efficient manner. I know this company prides itself in being military veterans and hiring veterans. I am not a military veteran, but I was a Federal law enforcement veteran, having served my country for 26 years in such diverse places as NYC, South Florida, the Caribbean, and lastly in the Southwest Border. I know what dedication to serving your country and professionalism in all you do is what is all about (in fact I wrote and have published a memoir in 2020 of my life and career through Amazon.com), and I know that Douglas Mechanical shares the same principles. I am filing a complaint against Douglas Mechanical regarding the installation of two Trane XV20i HVAC systems in my home in May 2025. The downstairs unit worked properly from day one, but the upstairs unit never functioned correctly. The company also failed to obtain the required permit for the installation, which can be verified through the City of Bellaire permitting website. Since installation, the upstairs unit failed to properly cool the home, could not maintain the thermostat set temperature, and leaked water into my attic. The owners, Justin Turner and Jared Hatfield, sent technicians to my home more than 30 times attempting repairs, but the issues were never resolved. By September 2025, after months of ongoing problems, I informed Jared Hatfield that I no longer trusted Douglas Mechanical and requested they remove the defective system and refund my money. Although their website advertises a one-year installation guarantee, they refused to honor it. Douglas Mechanical also sold me a 10-year labor warranty, but when I hired another HVAC company, I learned Douglas Mechanical had never properly paid for or secured that warranty. I hired Northwind AC to inspect the system. Their service manager stated it was one of the worst HVAC installs he had seen. They discovered the upstairs system did not have sufficient supply airflow due to improperly installed ductwork, which Douglas Mechanical had charged me extra to install. After spending additional money with Northwind AC to repair the ductwork and correct the installation issues, both systems now work properly. I have filed a complaint with TDLR and the better business bureau. read more

This is an update from my previous review (below). One of the owners of Douglas Mechanical reached out to me regarding my review last night. Apparently, he was not made aware of the issue until reading my review. Not only did he apologize, but he agreed to reimburse me for the damage that was caused by the leak. I changed my original rating from one star to five star because errors happen. What matters is how a company responds to the error. In my opinion, having the owner call me and agree to reimburse speaks to how much they care about customer service. Do not use this company. They were sent to me by American Home Shield (AHS) to repair my HVAC. The guy that came messed around in my attic for a while and when he came down he seemed more interested in upselling me on a new unit than fixing my issue. MORE IMPORTANTLY, the unit started leaking into my bathroom from a separated pipe. My original issue had nothing to do with a leak and the unit had never leaked in the six months I had owned the home. The Doulas Mechanical rep came the next day to "fix" the issue, which involved gluing the pipe he separated together. The only problem is he either did not do it correctly or separated a different part of the pipe in the process because the next night I woke up to the ceiling or my bathroom collapsing from a second leak in the pipe (see attached images of the damage). When I complained to AHS, they called Douglas Mechanical who not surprisingly denied that they even did any damage. The total cost for everything was $1,000, which included the $75 Douglas Mechanical charged me for the service. read more

My AC was not keeping my house cool, called my home warranty and went with Douglas Mechanical because they had the best reviews out of all the other contractors my home warranty tried to set me up with. They were honest about what the home warranty will replace and what they won't (home warranties are scammers, they tell you one thing to get you signed up but once you report a claim, they don't payout a thing unless the item is completely not working and even then, you still have to come out of pocket). My evaporator coil had a leak and my condenser was rusted, missing pieces from naturally falling off (over 18 years old), and not doing its job by keeping the heat out of the house. Home warranty wanted to replace the coil only because the condenser was still "running" even though it wasn't doing it's job by keeping the heat out of the house. We got upgrade options with Douglas Mechanical to go with the new R410a system instead of the old R22 that the home warranty wanted to put back in my house. The technicians that came to replaced our condenser and coil did an amazing job. My husband was impressed with the work they did (they even smoothed out part of our duct work) and our house is cool again. This company is professional and they clean up after themselves. My whole a/c -furnace unit was over 45years old and was replaced today on a Saturday! They showed up on time and worked hard. Kept my place clean while taking out all the old unit and ducts. Very professionals and very polite. Finished sooner than I thought and left every thing clean. My home is now very cool and comfortable. My kitchen has never felt this cool. Jared came the same day I called. He was very concerned about me getting some relief from this hot house. He was able to get me a best unit with great financing, I didn't think that was possible. His bid was much lower than the first company I called and when I didn't qualify for all the whole cost the first time, Jared just called another financial institution and that company approved me for more than the cost of the units with no interest for 54 months. The payment is less than my light bill, it was costing me almost $300.00 a month and the house was hot. I have had a rough go at getting good, dependable service on home services such as hot water heaters and air conditioning units! Douglas Mechanical has come through in the past for me. However, this time, based on my recommendation, they came to the rescue of my son's family when his hot water heater began to leak seriously in the attic. Douglas, at the start of the holidays, jumped in and promptly replaced two old hot water heaters at a very competitive price. They were very professional and worked with him late in the evening to make sure that when they came out the next morning they had everything they needed to get hot water back in the house. It is one thing to have great service on your own issues but when you refer a repair service to your kid's family, it is a great relief to have a company like Douglas taking good care of them especially during the holidays! They provide great service, competitive pricing, and their personnel are well trained, professional, and very courteous! Of course our 18 year old AC unit decided to completely fail when the temp is over 100° outside. I called Douglas Mechanical and they sent Aaron out to diagnose. He did a thorough investigation & confirmed our suspicion - we needed a new unit! He gave us a few recommendations on what needed to be replaced (compressor, coils, and a few other pieces) & we decided to just do the whole thing at once! He sent Billy to our home to talk about our options, financing & scheduling. Billy came to our house same day and got our order in for the very next day! Billy was very knowledgeable on all the options, kept our budget in mind (we were pleasantly surprised to stay WAY under budget). Carlos & his crew arrived on time the next morning & they were complete before lunch time! My house is cooler than ever! Not sure what the 2 people below are talking about my experience with Douglas Mechanical was nothing but excellent. First off they were the third company my home tried to get out during the storm and were the only ones that were willing to get out and help! When they arrived the tech was on time, courteous and quick to get us back up and running. He had a few recommendations that we will be following up with in the near future, but having dealt with the home warranty in the past we are aware that electrical issues and power surges are not covered like we just recently had this past ice storm. People truly need to read their policies and direct their anger towards the right party with that being said Douglas Mechanical was able to work within the guidelines of our policy and got everything covered 100%. Douglas Mechanical Inc. installed a completely new A/C unit with all the bells and whistle at our house. Travis Stoltman the sales rep. did everything he said they would do and sold us a great unit with Air Scrubber, UV Light, and Media Cabinet w/Filter & installed to more Air Vent returns. I really enjoyed working with Travis. Joe Gonzales the installer manager, I never meet him but had many phones conversation with him, Joe was very polite and professional in customer services, Joe made sure that the crew had everything they needed. Honestly, after all the BS companies our warranty company sent, we called Douglas Mechanical on our own. We've worked with them in the past and they have been THE ONLY company that's ever been honest and knew what they were talking about and did the job the right way. We needed some repairs and maintenance and Eric H arrived on time, did the job thoroughly, explained every detail and made sure he tested and inspected the completed job before leaving. He quoted honestly and didn't try to oversell anything that was unnecessary. In addition to the experienced and professional techs, their service and scheduling reps make sure you're taken care of and get you scheduled as soon as possible. We had our AC unit/system checked on 4/12/21 and were told of it's many issues (which we were expecting). The technician scheduled Sonny to come out later that afternoon to discuss all our options. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. We made our decision and Sonny had the crew come out right the next day! Enrique and his crew installed a new unit and system yesterday, 4/13/21 in our home. They were exceptionally professional and worked very hard to get the job done right. Enrique was very helpful and honest. I highly recommend Douglas Mechanical and specifically Enrique and his crew! Excellent company. I interviewed several AC companies and Douglas Mechanical were the only ones who came ready to seal a deal. They had several options for me to consider. I'd like to say thank you to Justin the sales rep., Omar and his father, the installers, all very professional. Buying a complete HVAC system is a big investment for most people and having confidence that their money is well spent is always important. Heat went out. Its cold for Texas. I called my home warranty company who referred me to Douglas Mechanical. After the appointment was set, I was running late. The accommodated me and met me at the house when I finally arrived. The tech, Dwayne, was on time, extremely courteous and showed me what the problem was. He was very kind as he explained the next steps too!! Hopefully home warranty will approve the claim, but if not, I will still have Douglas Mechanical take care of our heat and air systems because they were so kind and on time. I know we have to eventually replace our heater, and when we do it will be with the help of Douglas Mechanical!!! read more

The AC technicians are always very professional. However, today my review centers on recognizing the Douglas Mechanical office staff. Today I called inquiring about my AC and furnace warranty because I couldn't find the warranty certificates anywhere in my home files. Claudia patiently looked through their office document files until she found my documents. She must have stayed on the phone with me 15 - 20 minutes, as she persisted in searching through older files. She found those valuable 10 yr. warranty certificates and promptly emailed them to me. We've been using Douglas for 20 years now & they've been just outstanding. We have a service contract with them & they come out twice a year to check our system at no charge & offer discounts on services. They've always been friendly and accommodating. We just recently had to replace our A/C, Heater & Water Heater. Our options were explained thoroughly, and we were able to finance the cost. They took steps to protect our flooring and cleaned up afterwards. They came back out a couple of weeks after replacement & checked to make sure things were running smoothly. I was referred to Douglas Mechanical by our home warranty company. I could not be happier with the service we received. We got scheduled the morning after filing our warranty claim for the same day. Joe was courteous and thorough. He arrived on time, did a root cause analysis, and determined the cause of our A/C malfunction. He was patient with all of my questions. Despite telling me it could take up to 7 days for the warranty company to approve his recommended parts and service, he was able to return later the same day and make the necessary repairs. read more

This is a great company that was assigned to me by American Home Shield. The first 2 companies that they assigned had poor reviews. I'm glad I was assigned Douglas Mechanical. From the reservationist, the AC professional and sales, all exceptional! Reginald was my AC professional and his work and explanation was clear and complete. Huff came out today Had issue with new unit as a result of the winter storm and power going in and out...took him a bit to figure it out the issue but he got it! The kids are cool upstairs now.. Huff was very polite and courteous...better than most tech's I've experienced in the past with various companies. Customer service is key in any industry and goes a long way.
