Update: More problems from the initial setup. After being gone for a work trip, I came home to a flooded attic where the AC unit sat. Given the fact I still havent heard from the owner Henry of TAR from my previous issue with the main AC board, I called another repair company (Environmental Air Systems). This was the same company that came and out fixed the previous issue where my thermostats were not communicating with the unit. The reason was because the board was fried due to poor installation from TAR. Back to the most recent issue, appears there is a clog in the drain pipe near a bathroom sink. So how did the unit keep running (and flooding) vs shutoff and/or go into the backup drain pan? Well that's because TAR never installed the wiring of the SafeT shut off piece (see pic). It was placed on the pipe but upon a close inspection, I lifted the piece only to find the wires wrapped as if they went into the unit but sadly never were installed. The level of professionalism with their initial service keeps getting worse. And worst, I'm sure I'll never hear from Henry or TAR. read more

He was very informative about inner workings of our unit, very respectful of our home (put indoor covers before entering), and did whatever it took to make sure the job was done. Found this A/C repair company last Sunday on Yelp after reading most of the reviews. Since not many places were open on Sunday to help, I had immediately decided to go with them. The A/C has been leaking inside the townhouse twice in less than 3 weeks. The drain pan was filled with water. Water kept leaking near the air filter. Anyway, Henry III came to the rescue! This young man is super friendly, competent and professional. His Dad, Henry II, is the owner. I got to meet his Dad towards the end of the 2nd repair visit. His Dad is the exact same way like Henry II. Like father, like son. No surprise their company got all these 5 star reviews on Yelp and Facebook. Henry III cleared up the drain pan. He had come to us on Monday again because the a/c was leaking again ... and he then figured out it was due to the clogged master bedroom sink! He tried his best to check the pipe and something was clogged up down the pipe. He suggested us to get a plumber to fix it which we did. We then found out the roots were killing our pipe! Henry III was absolutely right! Just yesterday, I was able to get him back out to help us with a leak and loss of feron. Another thing I would rather let them help us again because it was very hassle free to make an appointment with them! Stephanie has been super nice to book Henry III for us on a very short notice, even though they were pretty busy! Long story short, he genuinely took his time to figure out where exactly the leak was. I know for a fact that he wouldn't lie/cheat/scam because he was at the townhouse over 3 hours (going back and forth to the attic and the unit outside). His Dad did come to help! It turned out there was a missing part at the unit outside! It was quite uncommon and he explained everything to me. I thanked him over and over. I did let him know Texas Air Repair will be my go-to a/c company from now on. Anyone with a/c issues should look no further. Give them a call immediately and your mind will be at ease! This is an excellent company. Last year i used my home warranty company to fix my A/C and not only had to still sit in 95+ degree in my house for 2 weeks, but it "broke" 2 more times after they "fixed it. Oh did i forget to mention i had to pay $1800 out of pocket for things not covered under warranty. With that being said, I enlisted Texas Air through yelp and they contacted me quickly and had a technician show up with the hour. He was courteous, friendly and explained everything in a way i could understand. He also showed me the jacked up stuff i was left with from the Warranty company. Gave me a phenomenal deal to fix everything too. Unfortunately, d/t other obligations that i need to focus on i could not use them. Where to begin. How about the start. In 2020, the AC unit wasn't working properly. A gentleman came and fixed the problem after adding freon to the unit. Was satisfied with his professionalism. Paid immediately after getting a bill via email. June 2020, the situation persisted after thinking it was fixed. Called them out after my first interaction and was told that the coil needed to be repaired. (Im not familiar with anything to do with air conditioning, I trust who is licensed to handle it correctly.) Was impressed at the time that they fixed it and to show my gratitude, willing to pay for a two year service contract ($2000). June 2021, here is where the issue gets bad. Again, had to call to get them to come out and fix the same unit again. This time it was a leak. I asked what could be done. The gentleman that was here said, "two options. a) you must get a new unit; it will cost $10k but the owner is willing to do it for $9k. b) we can seal it, will be a short fix and last another year possibility." I took option B , due to A) I hadn't researched AC units and B) was leaving out of town and didn't have time to do it. Now the issues begin with this company. 1 - After fixing the issue in June 2021, the AC unit wasn't working. I informed the front office that it wasn't working and needed them to come out again the following day. They said, none of the their repairmen are in Houston all live in San Antonio. Informed them that it needs to be done. So begrudgingly they sent someone back. The repairman stated that when they started the AC unit up again, it tripped the circuit breaker. Ok, cool. 2 - When calling them last week after receiving an voice mail, Liz (office manager) stated that the person I was looking for was calling about a payment that was due. My response was, "ok, but the situation isn't fixed. It is still hot downstairs." This is when Liz gets belligerent, she accuses me of not wanting to pay my bill (even though I never received an email) and states that its because I waited a month for AC to go out before telling her that. She then informs me, "its obvious you don't want to pay your bill, we sent numerous emails and made calls to inform you of bill." My response, "a) Im not declining to pay the bill, b) never received an email and when I did get a voice mail I called you." Her only response was, okay how will you be paying for this? I told her that I would like to talk to the owner. Her response, "The owner doesn't deal with this kind of stuff. He won't call you. I will get the manager to call you." 3 - The owner actually calls. I give him props for that. Informed him that the call was being monitored and recorded. He was fine with it. Got verbal confirmation. I let him know the following. A) Im not refusing to pay the bill, but would like to see the email. B) Liz informing me that I was declining to pay the bill even though every single bill that they emailed me was paid. C) That I was dodging calls, even though I wasn't as there were only three calls on the same day done. D) Liz basically putting blame on the AC unit not working back in June when they had to come back on my house. I informed the owner that all they have to do is send an email. It's been over a week. Still waiting on that email. 4 - What I have found out since that conversation. A - The service contract of $2000 was actually a price gouge as most contracts after researching was between $139 - $200 a year. (BTW, I never received a call to have maintenance done during the first year.) B - The parts used back in June 2020 with the coil and compressor (or whatever they supposedly fixed) allegedly are the same that needed to be repaired. C - I sent an email to their company informing them that I would contact the BBB and TDLR if they did not respond to my email with itemized bills of the work they did. I also let them know that the contract I had agreed upon could be put toward the amount owed. They have yet to respond to that email as well. It has been five days or that email sent. Look if you are in San Antonio, they are local probably more "customer service friendly" but if you live in Houston many better options. Next for me is to contact BBB and TDLR to inform them of their practices which I deem unprofessional. read more

Hi everyone I've been meaning to post about my experience of replacing my 3 HVAC systems over the summer. I have a really old home that had 3 HVAC systems that were between 18-25 years old each. Each slowly failed over the summer one by one requiring me to replace them all. They all ran on the old R22 refridgerant which is unbelievably expensive to refill locally unless you buy it online. We had gotten some bids last year 2017 and were quoted 25k-30k by different companies. We needed to replace a 2 ton, 2.5 ton, and 3.5 tons HVAC system. This past summer I took 4 bids on a Friday. I requested bids for the lowest cost system at 14 SEER. ARS Rescue Scooter gave me a bid $19990 for 14 SEER Carrier Sears gave me a bid of $21113 for 14 SEER Kenmore Abacaus gave me a bid of $28000 for 14 SEER Church gave me a bid of $30412 for 14 SEER Trane I'm probably similar to everyone else as this is not my area of expertise and I rely on other people to give me a fair bid, relying that they're being truthful and fair. That first day all of these people continued to hover in my home hoping to be the last one to give their sales pitch. They all tried the pressure tactic that if I didn't sign that day they wouldn't be able to guarantee that they could install it this week. It felt very similar to buying a used car and incredibly annoying. They all also said if I found a better price they would match it. I took the weekend to think it over and did some research. Turns out the HVAC units themselves only run $2000-$4000 each depending on what brand at 14 SEER. Therefore it should have only run about $6000 to $12000 for the 3 units I needed. The rest of the cost was for labor. People were charging me $8000-$18000 for labor!!! Looking into what went into labor, it consists of adding duct work, installing air handlers, installing the HVAC systems. I only needed the air handlers installed in their preexisting space and needed no additional duct work added to the current systems so I couldn't figure out how they justified $8-18k for labor. The following Monday, I took additional bids, but this time I let each HVAC company know to just give me the bid and to leave my home as soon as possible. I also let them all know that I already had multiple bids from Friday and had more coming on that day and to give me their best price. Village Plumbing gave me a bid of $23403 for 14 SEER Lennox H-Town gave me a bid of $14700 for 14 SEER Rheem Courtesy Air gave me a bid of $14380 for 14 SEER Ameristar Texas Air Repair gave me a bid of $11800 for 14 SEER Ameristar or Goodman Eventually I decided on Henry from Texas Air Repair even though other companies said they would match or better the offer. I personally think that people who give their best offer up front should be rewarded, not people who high ball you then drop their price $50 below the best bid you find after the fact. I upgraded the brand that I purchased and ended up purchasing a 2 Ton, 2.5 Ton, and 3.5 Ton 14 SEER Trane units from Texas Air Repair for $13500. I have been happy with the quality and the professionalism displayed by Texas Air Repair so and would highly recommend in the future. I definitely learned a lot about HVACs and hope this experience helps someone else out there from getting gouged. read more

There are three things that will win me over when I have several quotes to choose from: 1) Prompt response on estimate 2) Flexibility/Availability for service 3) Cost. The AC drip pan located in my attic was full of water and the drain needed unclogging. Simple service. I reached out to several companies for a quote and Henry from Texas Air Repair responded instantly. Not only was he the most competitive, he even offered to check the rest of my HVAC system to make sure everything is running properly in preparation for the summer. He made a couple of recommendations on products that would help preserve the longevity of my AC system but he wasn't pushy about buying the products so I really appreciated that. Communication was super easy. We texted instead of phone calls which is sad to say, the most preferred method of communicating these days. I know, typical millennials right? I had three quotes done on my furnace and A/C. The first guy said I will have to replace the units by just looking from the outside of the furnace. The second guy said I just needed to replace some parts, again by simply just looking at the outside of the furnace. Henry with Texas Air was my last quote and seem to be the only honest one by telling me that he could not give me an estimate by simply just looking from the outside, but would have to open it up and run tests to confirm what really needed to be done. Henry and his team confirmed that both the furnace and A/C units should be replaced because 1) Furnace was nearly dysfunctional and 2) The A/C unit was a different brand from the furnace and therefore couldn't communicate as well. Henry gave me a great price that was even less expensive than the first quote. He was very personable, knowledgeable, clear and honest in his approach. While messaging though yelp was very prompt and professional, the person that came, from the first impression, just did not seemed honest. While the website states they go through the checklist for maintenance, this person that came did not do one. The entire maintenance took 15 minutes. We had issue with the duct work. He gave us two options, and the cheaper option was like $1400. I just got the work done for $200. This kind of company puts bad name to honest businesses. read more

I called Friday noon time while my regular AC guy was busy until Monday. The tech Dan showed up in the afternoon. Dan is polite and found the problem. A loose wire is reconnected and a rusted pressure valve nozzle is cleaned. He is honest about the problem. The price seems a little high (200$)since I have few rentals and frequently use AC service. Normally, just a simple fix without any parts change is $75-125$, after talk to him, got a discount to $180. read more

The first vendor that the HWA sent out fixed our capacitor but upon service he informed us that our compressor also needed to be replaced and that our AC would not last much longer. He gave me an outrageous quote of $7,500 WITH assistance from home warranty and this just didn't sound right. This company replaced my upstairs air conditioner last April 2020. They were average as far as customer service. Days after the job was completed, they behaved in a very pushy way and demanded for me to allow someone into my house to take pictures of the finished job and threatened that the warranty wouldn't be active if I didn't. I gave them a date and they didn't show up. This year, I had an issue with the upstairs AC not working and I reached out to the company. I messaged the owner, Henry on Yelp (the message shows a Read Receipt but no response), I called the company and a left message and I attempted to make an appointment online. I never heard from anyone. I reached out to another Houston based company for my downstairs AC and they came to check both units. The upstairs AC wasn't working due to a clog in the drainage pipe but they let me know that TEXAS AIR REPAIR didn't even replace the drainage pan below the AC in the attic. They simply installed it over the old pan that is smaller than the new one. I would not recommend TEXAS AIR REPAIR. They have poor customer service and seem very shady. read more

They were excellent with responding to my request and making availability to see me and let me know the what the house call would be $75 even though online said $29 but I was desperate. After a brief inspection I was told the copper coil has a leak and needs to be replaced. Depending on the "fitting" I may also need a new outside unit. Either way my estimate was thousands. I was not convinced so I let him know I was going to get a second opinion. Thank God I did no new copper coil was needed it was a pretty easy fix with a switch that needed to be replaced as well as needing a new thermostat. $450 was my total. Texas Air Repair was by far the best customer service, we had another company come out to fix a fan and it was a $900.00 install. The house was still not cooling. Preston came out told us the fan was not the correct fan for the unit. We were in need of a new unit and our duct work that we had was less desirable for our home. He quoted us a price on several options they also offer financing. We selected not to finance due to the great discount of paying cash. His team was great, very professional. One of the guys stepped off the joist and his foot came through the ceiling. We called Preston he came out and had a Sheetrock man (Gustovo)out there the next morning they fixed the hole and you cant tell there was ever any damage. Gustavo also painted our house the next weekend and he did a fantastic job. We were so pleased with the service we received from this company. We called Texas Air Repair after one of our current systems was found to need a compressor and Freon replaced. The cost of replacing the old style Freon and the short warranty made us look at replacement alternatives. They came out within 2 days and reviewed our current system and made recommendations for replacement with multiple systems. After our selection, they were able to come out 2 days later (the delay was on our side) and completed the removal and installation of the new system in 1 1/2 days. The technicians were well trained, produced high quality work and cleaned up after themselves. The owner came out and reviewed the final product with us and answered all of our questions including starting the heating and AC portions of the system. I would recommend this company with full confidence and will use them again in the future to replace our other system. read more

Hello, My name is Chris and I'm A home inspector here in Houston! First of all I need to say that I see a lot of shady work that people do on home's and there HVAC unit's. What I here most is "I just had the unit serviced by John doe" and they show me the bill and sure enough it was! I see thing's that an HVAC company should never miss and they always do like Dirty AC condensers, Filter is filthy, Evaporators are rusted or plugged up and freezing up, yet two weeks earlier they knew that there home was going under an Inspection and call "John Doe" to do the service and paid over two and three hundred dollars for nothing! I'm by know means a HVAC Tec. but I know a lot about a homes and what is code, AC it one thing I know about. My AC was not blowing cold air and I know I had a problem, My filters and condenser as well as my evaporator where all clean. I fell for the same trap by calling "John Doe" AC service. They came out and showed me a pin home in the evaporator coil, Now I know that I had a hole in my evaporator and it needed to be replaced, I was given a "good price" (THATS THE BATE AND SWITCH) Long story short it was fixed in about two days. AC "Was working good". Then I get "The call" My wife told me she got home and it was almost 90* in the house. I told her I would call and have him come out and check it out. Needless to say two days and about twenty calls with know reply I had to call another person to help out and clean up another guys "BAD WORK" I got home from work herd a mouth full from my wife, I started calling people to see who would be able to come out A.S.A.P, I called about five people then I called Texas Air Repair it was about 10:30pm and I talked to Henry the owner and he told me he would be there the next day by 9am. He arrived at 9am like he told me and also called 30min. before hand, I did ask him lot's of questions and he had an answer for all of them. long story short he was able to find the problem right away, The solder was not good and sprung a leak. well he did fix the leak and charge the AC, he went above and beyond, he had checked the fan, Capacitor and all electrical contacts. the price was not bad at all, half what the last guy charged. Moving forward I will recommend to any one Texas Air Repair. There a very Honest company and show you what needs to be dun take the time to explain and show you what they are doing.
