Hate that I have to write this review, but it needs to be done. Nicest people you'll ever meet, but one careless moment almost took out my family. I used Doug's shop for a front brake replacement, done by long-time technician, Ray. I then felt safe to take my truck immediately on a road trip. And on I-70 in a 75mph zone, the steering wheel went from a slight wobble, to a pronounced bounce, getting worse around every curve. When I got safely pulled off the interstate, I found the front wheel was loose, and was easily within a few more curves of coming completely off. One lug stud sheered completely off, another was damaged, and all remaining lug nuts were very loose. I was a hair's breadth away from losing a front wheel, on the highway at 75mph, with kids on board. Just imagine what that would have looked like. Ray swears he torqued the lug nuts, even twice, he said afterwards. But I can't see that as reality. (The tire repair shop who fixed/replaced the bolts said "they weren't torqued" and were able to re-use the undamaged lug nuts. The nuts didn't strip out; they hadn't been tight.) All signs point to a careless slip-up, maybe a once in twenty years occurrence, but one that simply Cannot happen. Even once. Countless lives were trusting that it would be done correctly, and it was nearly catastrophic. My trust was betrayed, and now I cannot recommend Doug's shop to anyone. read more

First off, we want to thank Doug and his team for helping out a down and out Canadian couple in distress when we needed help the most. We had been badly stung by repair shops on travels before for being out of country, completely stuck and vulnerable. We were fully expecting the same again but were completely and unexpectedly surprised that this was not to be the case with Doug's. Our car broke down in Denver on our way to California. He took us in right away doing what he could to get us on our way. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to fix our Ford and it needed to go to the Ford Dealer. After many calls and guidance from Doug, we found one who could see the car quickly. We want to thank Doug and his staff for their compassion, guidance and professionalism given to a couple down on their luck. Unfortunately, the Ford Dealership couldn't fix our car either without it costing more than it was worth and we had to scrap the car. However, this bad situation could have been a lot worse. Doug's Automotive is an automotive treasure in Arvada. I found this Gem through a cousin of mine, she recommended I bring my Batmobile/X-Jet/Daewoo to him for some service I needed completed. Doug is a kind man, very courteous. The shop work area is larger on the inside than it looks from the street. The lobby is small with a couch near the counter, no TV but a stack of old magazines to thumb through. The Technicians were quick, thorough and honest in their assessments. Doug's price quote was fair for the work needed with no surprises at pickup; more importantly i felt he was trustworthy which is a big deal when looking for a mechanic. He'll handle my major auto repair. He also does oil changes and preventative maintenance, those prices also are fair and standard. read more

He told me that my 15-year old Pathfinder was probably not worth fixing given the level of repairs needed. This is exactly the kind of service person I want on my "team." My car has had a problem accelerating without slippage for almost two years. I would occasionally call an automotive repair business to discuss this as well as associated costs for diagnostic services. When I called Doug's, I was told to bring it in and he would look at it for no charge. If there was a charge I would be told prior to any work or more extensive diagnostics being performed. We took the car for a test drive... in 2 minutes Doug had a diagnosis, and then upon return to the garage, was able to give me a quote in several minutes. ( I had been told by one of Doug's competitors, in the past, that just to look at my car could cost up to $300!) We scheduled an appointment to get the work done. Doug assured me it would be able to be completed within 1 day. In the past, I was told that for the evaluation alone, I would probably need to leave my vehicle overnight. I did call several places requesting quotes for the service work I would be having done in the next week. One garage told me that I would need to leave my car 2, maybe three days, and could rent a car from a business down the street. Bottom line: Doug completed the work within the one day time frame as promised. More importantly, my car runs so smoothly, and has so much more power now... I actually enjoy driving... and it has been quite some time since that was a regular occurrence. Did I mention Doug's wife is just wonderful: professional and helpful! She happily gave me a ride to and from my home so that I did not have to wait hours in the waiting room. I no longer will even consider utilizing any other auto repair service provider. read more

Doug's truly is the place to take your car if you don't want to worry about being blindsided, up sold, or generally concerned that good work is being done. My family has taken our vehicles to Doug's for about 5 years now for anything that is a bit beyond our DIY talents or time schedule. They have done everything from getting necessary fixes on our "clunkers" A to B mobiles as cheaply and honestly as possible, to major maintenance on our nicer vehicles. I first came here when I decided it was time to quit risking it and get my Timing Belt done on my 4runner. I called around, and while they were not the cheapest, they were definitely in the lower 30 percentile on price and given the family history it was certainly worth the little extra for peace of mind. Since then they have also done some brake work and spark plugs that had me concerned with how tight they were. No problems and truck runs great! They always take their time to talk through upcoming repairs, and give an honest assessment on how important, necessary or easy a repair will be. Go to them if you want peace of mind! read more

I've been taking my cars to Doug's for about 10 years, and in that time I've never had a negative experience. Doug has repeatedly proven himself to be reliable, friendly, professional, responsive, and--perhaps most importantly--honest. Several years ago, during a routine oil change and inspection, Doug uncovered what he thought was an expensive electrical problem; he quoted me $1400 to fix it, and I gave him the go-ahead. He called me back an hour later to explain that one of his techs had made a mistake, and that in fact the problem was far smaller than he thought--it would be only about $100. A less scrupulous mechanic might not have said anything, and I would have happily (and unwittingly) forked over the money. But not Doug. He's far more interested in keeping me as a customer than he is about making a quick buck. On other occasions Doug has gone out of his way to accommodate my schedule, waiting around for me after business hours or arranging an early-morning pickup. He's given me rides home and picked me up after work was complete. He's always been communicative, never hesitating to spend time explaining things to me when I need my hand held. Over the years I've worked with a variety of mechanics, and in my experience the truly good ones are few and far between. Doug is one of them. He's a car guy through and through, but he clearly also values his customers. He's the best at what he does. I couldn't recommend him more. read more

This business is amazing. Doug has been taking care of my vehicles for 10yrs. He has given me good honest advice about multiple vehicles that I considered for my daughter and all the used vehicles I have purchased over the years. I know when I or my daughter drive away from Doug's we are safe and have paid a fair price for services. Over this Thanksgiving weekend my daughter surprised me and drove her 2003 Subaru to Denver from Vegas. Doug took care of this vehicle until I gifted to her in 2014 and she moved to Vegas. I would have advised her not to drive the car to Denver and indeed the radiator cracked while she was here. I called Doug's first thing Monday am after the holiday and he worked her right in and got her back on the road to Vegas by 3pm. I have had little use for Doug's service for about 4 yrs as I have been driving a newer Lexus so I am forever thankful they were able to work on her car so immediately. He advised her of other issues with the vehicle that he did not have time to address on Monday but she knows what to have repaired now that she has made it safely home to Las Vegas. I had a fantastic experience with Doug's Automotive this past week. I have been going to another location in the area for multiple years but couldn't get an answer for a rattling sound and started to not feel comfortable with their suggestions for repairs as I know my jeep needed work but their list seemed extensive. I found Doug through Nextdoor and the entire experience was nothing but a pleasure. We dropped my car off, had the air conditioning checked which hasn't been working and he knew exactly what the rattling noise was (a broken heat shield) and he fixed it with just a hose clamp. He also did an entire check on my vehicle and noted a handful of stuff that needed to get done. We took it back that next week and all the work was completed in a day at a very fair price, could not be happier with my visit!! Doug will be my new go to for any car maintenance or repairs and there is no wonder why he has been in business for over 30 years. read more

This is an honest, trustworthy mechanic. The prices are fair, and they don't recommend or charge for unnecessary repairs. Once while waiting for my service, I overheard Doug talking someone out of a costly repair and telling him that a cheap band-aid fix might outlast the rest of the car given how old it was. I haven't had to use them for a while because I now have a newer car. Also, I don't live in Arvada anymore, so it's too far to go for an oil change. But if I needed an actual repair, I'd drive across town to see Doug. The only downside is that they usually book up a week or more out since they are so popular. But I think for more urgent repairs, they do their best to prioritize and accommodate people. read more
