Doug's Delight is the primary storefront for both it and Matt Mo's Italian Beef and I swung by the other day to try both. From Doug's I went with their special--a blue moon soft serve served with strawberry soft served, dipped in sprinkles. It was so good! The flavor profiles of both weren't as strong as hard pack blue moon and strawberry ice creams but they were still very obviously blue moon and strawberry and tasted great together. The sprinkles were also a great texture. Just slightly crunchy but not hard. I'm very picky about my sprinkles and they've got good ones! Also, I ordered a small and it was HUGE. I couldn't finish it! Next time I'm definitely going to try a sundae or a "Dougie" but even with a soft serve you can't go wrong! read more

I'd only been here many years ago, when it was the "original" version. This is definitely a different thing. We didn't get any food this night, it was strictly a dessert stop. But the Italian Beef smelled amazing, I'm going to try it soon. Service was very friendly, and they have several nice picnic benches to eat at. The ice cream is top quality Hudsonville, and my cookie sandwich was out of this world. Great ice cream in a thick slice, and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Doug's Delight is a great stop for ice cream year-round. They have soft serve, Guernsey's hard scoop, Dougies (their version of a Blizzard), slushies, and more. They also have rotating special flavors! They have a walk-up window to order, so if it's cold out it might be a chilly wait, but it's always worth it and I never have to wait too long. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and willing to answer any questions. They also have some outdoor picnic tables, which is great for when the weather is nice! They have other sausages/dogs, Guernsey ice creams, ice cream sandwiches, cider slushies,etc. Food is Takeout with outdoor patio tables and appears to be a local favorite. The dog had the sport peppers and relish unlike most local Chi-dog versions so flavors were close though not exact (celery salt?). The Sriracha fries were tasty and a large coke actually tasted like one and not a watered down one. The dog could 've been hotter and bun maybe not authentic but wasn't bad and I liked the service. Stopped by here tonight after dinner at Mabel Gray, I had seen pictures of their ice cream sandwiches on Yelp and wanted one for dessert. The ice cream sandwich is $5 and the cookies are homemade; the ice cream they sell is Guernsey, which is delicious. I got mine with Moose Tracks. Unfortunately, they don't have a bathroom on-site for customers so I had to wait until I got home to eat mine, and by that point the ice cream had melted. My boyfriend ordered a brownie sundae and it was gigantic. It came with two full-size brownies, your choice of ice cream, and whipped cream. Overall, this place was very tasty and had good ice cream. Their hot dogs menu looked intriguing as well. I just wish they had a bathroom on-site because it means I can't really eat there, and will always have to do takeout, since I usually need a bathroom after eating ice cream. read more

We made a stop here on the way to the airport for a quick hotdog and ice cream. The hot dogs are tasty and the ice cream was creamy and delicious. My hubby got an ice cream sandwich with moose track ice cream, and I got a brownie Dougie (basically a blizzard). They were HUGE. I shared mine with my son, and we couldn't finish it. Should have done one ice cream item between the 3 of us. Paid over $15 including tip for a very disappointing experience. My "Chicago" dog was the poorest excuse for a hot dog. Room temp bun (not toasted) basic undercooked dog, A kids ice cream, soft serve- so nothing special and a med soft drink. The drink was the best part.. and the food came wrapped in a bag, gave sorta of a chow line in the county vibe.. serving in a basket would of been more appropriate. I tried this amazing little place with my parents this past weekend and I have to say it was worth every penny. I love that it's open year round, first of all. My dad ordered a Dougie (basically a Blizzard) with Reese's pieces which he says is hard to find anywhere else; he said it was amazing. All their ice cream treats are made with Guernsey Farms ice cream which is one of the best brands, so he knew it was going to be great. Stepmom got a coney dog, Detroit style, and she said that was great too. I got a Chicago-style dog, which is hard to find a good version of around this area, and it was amazing. It was made with real Vienna products and tasted like the one I had in Chicago. I also got an order of poutine to take home. The gravy and cheese curds on it were fantastic. 10/10 would eat here again! read more

The outside of Doug's delight is a little weird. There is not a lot of parking and only a few tables. It looks more like a temporary pop up restaurant. I went at lunchtime and there was no less than eight people there, but only one open parking spot that I took. The menu is interesting and that was my real reason for wanting to try it. I got the walking taco and the fried with everything added. Also got a blue raspberry slushee. All of the reviews said this place took forever to get their food out. My food came out in under five minutes which I was pleasantly surprised about. The first thing you notice is everything is in styrofoam to go boxes. In a culture where straws are a bad thing, this was outrageous. The foods pretty good, but there is not a lot of it. It is not that pricey, but it quickly adds up when you want to taste a little of everything on the menu to get a feel for it. I really liked the fries, but there not even close to a decent poutine dish. The walking taco was in a freetos bag opened in the container. It was ok, just a little trashy. I liked the slushee. It tasted like they blended in ice cream with it. This was $15 all said and done. While I could have made a meal out of the fries alone or not gotten them with all their additives, $15 is still a lot for not a lot of food. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Well below our expectations. Doug's was recommended by a friend, so we decided to try it. We ordered a soft serve twist in a waffle cone and a milk shake. Ordering was easy, but we waited almost 30 minutes for our ice cream. No apology or explanation - just here you go and "next." I would have given Doug's 3-stars if my ice cream was good, but it wasn't. The soft serve was icy and the cone was stale. Very disappointed and we will not be back. read more

What a difference from when they first opened. My first review was not good. I left that review after my first two visits within the first six months or so after they reopened Dougs Delights. Well, they figured some shit out and I love this place now. Since Matt & Mo's came in it's been night and day. First of all, I mostly eat vegetarian. Their beef sandwiches are absolutely amazing. I like mine with hot peppers, provolone, and dipped. It's a beautiful mess when you eat it. Lol. Now they have sweet potato waffle fries that they have homemade sauces for. Incredible. Not to mention their sweet selections. They have Guernsey ice cream and rotate a bunch of new tasty things to keep things fresh. I had the apple cider slushy with the cinnamon ice cream. Was like the fall version of a creamsicle. So damn good. I live within walking distance and can't be more excited that this place is up to expectations now. A little late. Visited Doug's Delight on Saturday and had a delicious oreo dougie. The ice cream was wonderful and creamy. I paid extra for extra oreo and they didn't disappoint. They started doing online ordering and it was a breeze. They text updates and you walk up to the pick up window (with your mask on), give them your name and bam there's your food. Awesome, trendy ice cream stop. They keep things interesting by changing up the features for the day. I happened to get the mini taco nachos and tater tot mess, and both were fun and yummy. The tater tots had sauerkraut and the spicy pickled Asian cabbage. We got the guernsey birthday cake ice cream and a banana split for dessert. We ordered a root beer float, a dougie with Reese's peanut butter cups (their version of a blizzard), and a scoop of vanilla ice cream with m&ms for just over $12 (that included two bottles of water as well). Some people are complaining of a wait but the place was pretty busy and our ice cream was out in less than 10 minutes. During our wait our 3 year old entertained herself with the games they have setup outside. They have quite a few picnic tables to sit at as well. Doug's is an indepedent ice cream shop with historic business status in Hazel Park. 40+ years in business, you know they do it right. I'm picky about my softserve. Dougs has good soft serve, no chemical flavor in it. The cream puffs are excellent. For sure the most generous and cold anywhere around. There's a constant stream of people buying up the fried food lunches. I have not tried the food but judging by the constant orders it must be good. Doug's is seasonal place that opens well after all of the other ice cream shops and closes before them too. Holidays? Closed. So get there when you can and visit the rest later. read more

I've only been once -- ever -- and it was two days ago. A friend agreed to go with me about ten minutes before closing. No line, thankfully! Limited menu but your basics are there. I got a Reeses Cup Dougie, because I've been eating RC blizzards most of my life and could compare. Let me tell you... It was delicious! Their soft serve is absolutely perfect, it had the perfect amount of Reeses in it, and was well blended. I especially appreciate the nostalgia of the 90s Solo cups. My friend had a scoop of Midnight Train to Traverse, which she also immensely enjoyed. Haven't tried the food yet but it looks promising. We were second in line. It took over 20 minutes to get two ice creams and a sandwich, and it came out at different times. Italian beef- ordered au jus and what they did is soaked the whole thing them wrapped a few layers of paper All the way around. The texture of the bread was total mush. I added the sweet hot peppers, nothing sweet. Just a lot of jaa as jalapeño. Ordered the non dairy peanut butter ice cream. It was inedible and I threw the entire thing away.
