Great ice cream, slushees, and custard here! My boyfriend's a big fan of the cherry slushee while I get the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. We sometimes will get a green apple slushee mixed with vanilla ice cream--absolute best sweet treat! They also have chocolate covered bananas, sundaes, and 'cyclones' (custard mixed with candies) with a ton of options to add toppings, fudges / syrups, and different cones. The flavors are pretty rich, I stick with a small and it's all I need! There is also food like pretzels, bagged chips, and hotdogs. You order at a carry out window and wait outside. There's outdoor picnic tables to sit at but we like walking around. Since there's normally only one or two people working, I'd recommend going in the late afternoon to very early evening as the lines get pretty long--not surprising as it's the best ice cream for the lowest price! read more

Great place for great soft serve. The vanilla is very creamy, the chocolate is very chocolaty. The vanilla is identical to Costco's soft serve, a custard. They have one little sign at the pickup window that says Carmens, but the signs on the building says D&N, for Dan and Nancy (actually I don't know what it stands for). They have a good soft serve toppings menu, including coconut flakes, peanut butter dip too. read more

We ordered a cone and a malt and it took over 1/2 hour for us to get it. We kept watching all these other people walking up to the window and ordering and getting their food before us. If I ordered a cone and people behind me ordered a cone, why did they get theirs before I got mine. I asked a few times and they just kept saying they were busy but by the time we got ours the parking lot was almost completely cleared out. The person comes to the window with just the malt and hands it to us like it was an Oscar and says "here ya go" and when we asked about the cone she looked completely clueless. We went out of our way and waste 1/2 hour for that? Their custard is good but unless I am right in the immediate area, I won't go back and I certainly won't wait that long again. read more

5 stars for the dog-friendly menu!!! We drive out of our way so we can bring our pups here for a "Pooch Parfait", ($2), and to socialize with other dogs. The custard is equally good and the menu is vast. (southern peach was a guest custard last night). read more

Just okay. We stopped by here last night after a movie at AMC John R, we were both craving soft serve and I had never been here before (only to Dairy-O, down the street). I had a small twist in a waffle cone ($2.85, plus $1 upcharge for waffle cone) and my boyfriend got a large sundae with peanuts and peanut butter (?) topping. Total was like $9 for both of those which I thought was rather high, but most of their soft serve prices seemed really reasonable. My waffle cone was okay but did not taste homemade. They have a few little places to sit, and ample parking, which was nice. They also have hot dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches, hence the "Bar & Grill" portion of the name. I would probably try another local place before coming back here, everything was fine but nothing really stood out. My boyfriend said that he could have had that sundae at pretty much any place, i.e. there was nothing unique about it. My swirl cone was tasty but nothing special, as well. read more

The ice cream is FANTASTIC. You can really tell the difference between regular soft serve and their frozen custard: it's wayyyy creamier, smoother, and their flavors are spectacular. The staff members are very friendly and the service is quick. 11/10!! read more

Tasty custard but HORRIBLE attitudes. They're getting two stars only because I didn't appreciate being spoken to as if I were a moron in front of a bunch of people but their custard is actually four/ five star worthy. They messed up my order three times and blamed me for their little confusion. Sorry ma'am, I just read what I wanted off your menu, if you guys mess it up three times that seems to be an inside issue. I used to come here all the time but decided after the owners nasty attitude I'll probably stay away. Head over to Ermas, they're always nice and custard is just as good! :) read more

Best custard I've had so far this summer! Service was a bit slow-only two people working, but the custard makes up for it!

When I found another frozen yogurt spot near me I just had to try it. I ordered an Oreo cyclone but I wasn't specific in ordering so I assume they gave me custard and not a frozen yogurt, as it was extremely thick and creamy. The cyclone wasn't really mixed very well, but there were plenty of Oreos in there which is equally important! The Dairy Bar itself was inexpensive, charming, and there were plenty of picnic tables and seating. The place overall was very nice and I would definitely return. I probably would specify that I want a frozen yogurt and not custard tho because I personally find it too thick. read more

One trip to this place and you'll throw rocks at Dairy Queen. Most soft serve is pretty much the same, but D&N is different. Theirs is a thick, rich, amazing custard. They have all the sundaes, cone dips, and blizzard wannabes you'd expect. Also, they serve hot food and have unique offerings like homemade ice cream sandwiches and chocolate frozen bananas. Service is always friendly and they also take credit cards. They're closed for the season, but you should bookmark this joint and make it a priority come spring. read more

So WAY back in the day there were Dairy Queens that had custom Blizzard flavors and other stuff because they were independently owned and NOT required to have the same franchise-based menus. While you can still find other independent ice cream places with great, non-franchise menus, etc - nothing compares to D&N. My husband and I just discovered this place after living in Clawson for over a year. It's GREAT. The menu is vast and interesting. The custard is REALLY flavorful! I fell in love with this place when I lived in Clawson. Their custard is so thick and creamy and I love the bonus flavors that change weekly. They have so many dips to choose from, I don't even know if I could pick a favorite. Sometimes I stray and go to Erma's. But the thing about them is their custard is soft and melts really fast. That's great that they have little bits mixed in their special flavors but I think it's a problem when they warn you to keep it straight up when they serve it to you. We have gone here since we were kids - the name has changed - I've never called it Carmen's, it's always been D&N Dairy. Delicious custard Sugarfree options Cyclones (blizzards) stuffed with toppings I was always sad when it closed for the winter. Now living somewhere where custard is much harder to find (and much more expensive) I really appreciate D&N. read more

Tough choice between this place and Erma's... I do like that this custard is firmer and takes a lot longer to drip than Erma's. When you get an ice cream there, it's already running down the sides of the cone lol. This place also has good coneys and other snacks. read more

DON'T BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE! The staff have constantly have ruined our family ice cream outings by providing poor service with a negative attitude, just yesterday we got yelled at twice by two different employees for no reason. I don't understand how nasty and negative these people are, I highly encourage them to take a look at how they talk to their customers because we felt as though they were discriminatory against our background. Excellent place to grab a frozen custard cone, I usually go out of my way to go here versus other places like DQ as the quality is better. I also enjoy their sunday's once in a while. Even the slushies remind me of the ones I had as a kid. The only reason for four stars is no bathroom, and Oberwies is still a little better (though much more expensive too!)... read more

I have to disagree with the person above... I guess she gets lost in trying to be cute writing a review sometimes that her taste buds go numb from listening to her rants about how good this or how bad that is. This place is far superior to Dairy O when it comes to flavor and texture, there is nothing wrong with Dairy O (much better than Dairy Queen) but D &N has been my favorite for years. The custard is thick and rich and has that right mouth feel, plus it actually tastes of something, which a lot of these other ones just taste of sugar and some artificial flavoring. I cant talk about their regular food, cause its just something that I dont want to try. I think an ice cream place should be an ice cream place, nothing more... do one thing right, dont try to do multiple things right. Custard based ice cream is always much better than just ice milk in my personal opinion. If you want flavor.. come here.. if you want generic ice cream.. go to Dairy O... if you want something that basically tastes like frozen 1% milk with a hint of sugar, go to Dairy Queen and choke down their frozen bull semen they call ice cream. read more

I had went to this place for the first time today. I ordered a small cyclone. I waited awhile in line, I then placed my order and waited to the side for my order I then saw as 3-4 people that were behind me got their dessert, cyclones, sundaes, dog bowls, before me. Passing by, I've wondered why there have been hardly any people standing all crowded around the front, like I'm used to seeing on a hot July evening... Well I found out, tonight! $7 for two medium twists in wafer cones, that look like smalls. You've got to be out of your mind. Our love affair is over... The custard is good, but not that good. I used to come here quit a bit in the spring, summer and fall. I enjoyed sundaes, cones and even hotdogs and burgers. I noticed the prices steadily rising as time went on, but after a while, it seemed that the prices became arbitrary. Almost like a game was being played each and every time I visit. Although my orders were somewhat predictable, my total never was. Prices are not posted, but usually, almost reasonable, although somewhat on the higher side. Due to history with the joint and convenience, I didn't question... Until tonight! $7 for two 1/2 cent cake cones and a little poo-poo swirl each of frozen custard!? That is something I'd expect to pay at a much finer establishment. What a disappointment. If I'd have ordered larges, my 10 spot might have just covered it. Who knows? Like I said, I think the little girls running the stand or the possibly mute, older woman are just making up prices they go. Maybe I'm being charged based on the amount I'm holding in my sweaty little fingers as approach the window? Well, whatever the case, no more. PS, what are you doing with this money?
