I would strongly advise against using Down and Dirty Landscaping. We had nothing but problems from start to finish. First off, Ryan Haro, the owner, was rude and condescending every time we tried to communicate with him. It's clear he doesn't listen to his clients--he has his own agenda and does whatever he wants, regardless of what's been agreed upon. To make matters worse, Ryan and his crew caused significant damage to our property. They broke our concrete because of their negligence and the heavy machinery they used without regard for the surrounding area. His workers also damaged our gate, fence, and other parts of our concrete driveway. We had to keep calling them out to fix things that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. Ryan also doesn't know how to properly handle drainage issues, which led to more complications with the project. On top of that, Ryan is extremely disorganized. He constantly changes the game plan every day, so we never knew what to expect. It felt like he was 5% present, and the lack of consistency made everything worse. If you value your property and want a smooth, professional experience, do yourself a favor and find someone else. Sadly as much as I would like to, do NOT use this business for your landscaping needs unless you want broken promises, C- work, cement with 10 foot crack, issues with drains, lack of follow through. I paid in full for a project in our back yard, was quoted 3-5 weeks, paid in early December and job was recently finished last week of March. When I say completed that's with plenty of issues in left to deal with as owner takes no ownership. "He's busy" "he warned me" I have everything in writing and kept a trail of all the broken promises. His way of "making it right" doing a free seal over the cement, the one with 10 foot crack in it that he "warned me of" but never did. He did suggest pavers, which were double the price. But to have a 10 foot crack with in 5 weeks of install is a joke. All of my drainage is currently clogged, he states not his fault, but in the only house with this issue due to work he did. I'm going to have to now pay someone else to come fix it, still have a broken sprinkler, multiple drip lines still not working, and more. Sadly though I have him months to make things right he never did! Zero ownership, zero compassion, zero responsibility. Horrible follow through as was mislead countless times he was showing up to fix things. Both my neighbors got work done by other business, paid EXACLTY what I paid, and there jobs are nicer, finished and NO ISSUES! Once the project kicked off his team worked tirelessly to complete the project. They were never late and, in fact, were usually early. I can not say enough great things about Down and Dirty Landscaping! Ryan came in and transformed our brand new homes dirt backyard into an awesome, drought resistant oasis. He did a raised garden, pavers, and pad for our spa and a gorgeous pavers pad with bench for our new fire pit. Everything is lit up beautifully at night. During the day our yard is a great place to sit with a cup of coffee or have a large gathering of friends. Ryan did what we hired him to do! He has integrity on his jobs and does not just tear up your yard and leave you sitting, as many contractors will do. If he has to pull off for a day he will let you know. Once they get started it is magical how quickly they transform your yard! Ryan has the most respectful and hard working group of workers I have ever seen (my background is construction based contracts), so I know first hand how great it is to find a company with integrity. The one bit of advice I can give the consumer is to do your homework ahead of breaking ground. Get your plant choices written down and order your spa and fire pit as soon as work begins. Things like spas and fire pits take many weeks to arrive and vendors do not have them in stock. If you are choosey about plants and trees, I'd take the time to go to a nursery and write down exactly what you want. Ryan can get most anything! In conclusion, and work you have on your home is going to be stressful and sometimes things go awry, that said have a drink and let Ryan handle it... Ryan and his crew worked on a project for us involving our font and back yard. He arrived promptly to give us an estimate and spent quite a lot of time with us going through what we wanted and giving us suggestions and ideas, which was great. Watch your money. Took my money and never did the job. Did not know how to do the job. Hired and paid in full to put a cement patio for a veterans group. Had to take him to court and won, had to go back two more times because he did not pay the court order. One comment to the judge was he was tired of Veterans wanting everything for free. Before hiring their services, I made it very clear that I will not be interested in "nickel and dime" but would like to have the estimate of the project (total cost including labor and material). Ryan gave us the quote for the project, we agreed and we hired Down and Dirty Landscaping for our backyard landscaping project. Things changed after the first day and he started charging extra money for small things that were part of the project: 1. To provide support for a couple of our plants, he asked me to get two wooden poles (cost less than $5.00 in Home depot). 2. He had promised to show us the sample of tan bark and mini mulch before buying - but he directly bought the load of tan bark without showing the sample - which was not what we had expected. 3. I was asked to buy the new irrigation timer since my existing timer was short of 1 station. While connecting the wire to the timer, Ryan pushed the switch (to release the wire) hard and it broke. All I expected was an acknowledgement that he damaged it - not the entire cost of the brand new timer that I had purchased less than 24 hours ago. But Ryan shrugged it off telling me that the unit is still functional. 4. The wire for the timer was short by about 5 to 7 ft - he asked me to get that too. Disappointment again, but I ran to the hardware store and got that as well (cost $10) since the project was coming to an end. 5. Still, the connection to the timer did not work - so he decided to get the entire new wire next day (the other part of the existing wire was old and did not seem to be good). It was really very disappointing when he charged $31 for that wire. When I told him that it is not fair and it should be the part of the project cost, he threatened to rip the working connection apart if I do not pay. This was very rude and disappointing! 6. When I showed him a small patch where the lawn was not growing right. He told me that he would throw seeds in that patch for $5.00!! I disagreed with Ryan on almost every aspect and our experience was not pleasant. We were extremely disappointed by his approach and total lack of customer service. read more

Over the course of the year they have provided consistent and quality work. They show up every week as scheduled and reach out at least a day in advance if there are any changes to the schedule. Payments are easy through Venmo. Ryan provides prompt responses to bid requests for additional projects; adding plants, removing section of lawn and replacing with mulch. Ryan promptly reply's to any questions or concerns we may have such as reducing sprinkler times if we find the grass area is constantly damp (we have 4 kids playing on it regularly). We've been using Ryan and team for a few months now, and our yard looks as wonderful as when we bought the house, and we took that very seriously since the yard was one of our favorite features of this house yet my husband and I had no knowledge of how to maintain it and care for it. I've really appreciated Ryan's willingness to jump right on an issue and project immediately when I call or text him, as it's saved me a lot of worry and stress about when something was going to get fixed or how big of a problem something might become before it was addressed. I've dealt with dozens of vendors over the past few months as we attempted to fix things on the property, or tackle some projects, and Ryan has been one of the few that I haven't really had to oversee or worry that he wasn't doing something the way I wanted. That being said, he also doesn't work independently; he does communicate with me, listens to my questions or concerns, and is open to my feedback, so even though I'm a yard newbie, I feel involved in how it's being maintained. We've been using him for his higher level regular yard maintenance, as well as now have done a couple projects (redone our sprinklers, redone the bases of our multiple fruit trees with bender board/compost, cleaned up one corner of the yard), and we feel that our money has been well spent on all of these. We trust that our future projects landscaping and maintaining will also be fairly quoted and done well. WOW!!! I have never had a business actually pay attention to what I want, I had a whole idea in my mind and Ryan and his crew literally had it done exactly the way I pictured it. The team from down and dirty landscaping took out 3 trees, several shrubs and many weeds from 2 areas, ground the stumps of the trees and took down a structure over the patio. The work was done in 2 days Including trimming the remaining overgrown plants. They did good work with major cleaning up but they left a lot of dead branches in the trees and stems and some stumps covered up by dirt in the yard and not ground out. They removed a crape myrtle I had requested they leave in place. I was told they would replace it but it has not been replaced. There were sharp brackets left from removing the patio structure. 3 stars because a lot of work was done but we are cleaning up after them. read more

Great job by Ryan and his team to redo my landscape around the entire house. I did a major remodel on the house and my soil grading level no longer passed code. I contacted Ryan who gave me a very fair bid and his team proceeded to remove my old concrete patio and all walkways around the house. They replaced it with a beautiful new paver patio, new lawns in front and back, and a French Drain around the property to remove water to solve the previous grading issue.
