If I could give 10 stars I would!! We love our new gravel driveway! We recently completed a whole home remodel, and the last step was hardscape and landscape. Randy came out and met with us, discussed our ideas, and provided feedback, and collaboratively we were able to come up with a plan for our driveway. Randy, Michael, Ryan and the team, installed the driveway as well as some lighting for us, and we couldn't be happier! There we some changes we wanted during the process, (a cement pad) and they were flexible, and helped make it happen. We enjoyed working with his team, so much so, we are going to do some additional work (turf installation) with R&J Landscaping at the end of summer. read more

This is e-mail my daughter sent to R&J, Mr Randy Miller, the owner in May 22,2019. "Due to the latest issues we have had with your employees, therefore, your company, we would like to end your services immediately. Latest issues: A lemon tree being cut horribly (incredibly crooked) and without our request or permission. Your employees leaving our side gate open multiple times: I had requested multiple times that they make sure the gate is closed after they are done with the work in the backyard. They failed to comply with the request not 1, but 5 times. Due to their careless act, our dogs have escaped 5 times. Today, we lost one of our dogs after your employees left the side gate opened. As of today, I don't want your employees on my property anymore." Here Mr Miller replied May 23,2019. "Sorry you feel this way. My guys shut gate yesterday for sure they said. No need to argue the point we will send final bill" And R&J backed to do our house today WITHOUT OUR AUTHORIZATION. I was scared. I talked to R&J guys who gave them authorization for coming back. They said the owner. Than I called Mr Miller and he said that he never got any email from my daughter. And I got confuse. He continues saying that he never got. Also R&J guys left the front of my house and next to my neighbor's garage, littered dirt, leaves, pruned plants. This owner acted dishonestly, especially lied to me and my daughter. After all the stress we've had with this business for so long time, if I could I wouldn't give any stars to. R & J Landscaping did a total landscape remodel of our front, back, and side yards to replace dead lawns with drought tolerant plants. Michael led the crew and did a fantastic job. He was very easy to work with - great communication via text or in person, and I felt very comfortable asking him questions. All crew members were very friendly and professional. We also asked them to do two extra projects beyond the original scope of the project: build a built-in bbq and build and install wooden handrails for our front porch steps. We are VERY happy with the results of both additional projects. The landscaping looks great . They did a thorough clean up everyday before they left. R & J came out to take away branches from trees we cut down ourselves. We contacted them at 9:00 pm and they were at our house at 8:00 am. They put all branches through a wood chipper, cleaned up and were gone within 35 minutes. They were professional and had a great price. Just loved working with Randy and his team of professionals at R&J!!! Our project was a 6 week backyard redo on our acre property. From design (thank you Kim!) to completion Randy managed expectations and deliverables. We found his entire team including Miguel's team and Ryan exceptional! They listened to our concerns, worked through our issues, tackled and entertained all our questions with great concern and professionalism. They took time to explain options for walkways, lighting and irrigation. We perused samples to ensure we made the right decisions with their direction. They showed up on time daily, worked hard all day and never hesitated to take time from their day to walk us through their progress. They made suggestions to design when needed, kept our property clean each day and we completed our project on time and on budget. We will be doing our front yard in a year and we'll definitely be hiring Randy's folks again from R&J. While not the least expensive quote we received, their work speaks for itself. Randy and his team have been fantastic to work with. I highly recommend them. We used them for a simple driveway project, then a complete redo of the backyard and they were just the best in every way. Our backyard project included removing 95% of what was back there, installing a giant raised patio with pavers, re-creating a retaining wall, a fire pit and walkway, a large pergola, electrical, new grass, plants and trees and, of course, getting the watering system set up. We worked with a designer they recommended who had excellent advice for low-water and easy maintenance plants. Every crew member that came to the house was great, they answered every little question I had, and were very knowledgeable about why certain choices were made. They were also flexible when I wanted a change or needed something moved. If there was an extra cost for it, they were open about that, too. Cost wise - there were no surprises and that means a lot when doing a big project like this. They are busy. They are booked out months in advance. So be really flexible with your timeline. For us, that meant about 4 months from the deposit to the start date. (Before the deposit, there was an on site meeting with Randy to understand the scope, an all day meeting with the designer to map out the exact plan, down to the location and color of every plant, then we got the contract and reviewed the quote, then put down the deposit.) That said, once they started, things moved quickly. I had a crew at my house all day 5 days a week (except for rainy days) until they finished. The site was also cleaned up and organized at the end of every day. I have to give them an extra shoutout for being kind and patient with our dog. She is an 11 year old Pom who barks a lot. They were patient with her, careful about the gate and made sure she was safe. read more

R&J Landscaping did a very poor job at my home relandscaping. I had DG pathways installed, which were installed improperly and no stabilizer put on them As a result, the walkways cracked , the bender board is coming apart. The drip system was also not installed well with very few staples put in to hold it in place. As a result it is showing through the bark wherever it was put in. Randy, the owner is defensive, and arrogant, doesn't take questions or criticism well and tries to divert blame to the owner. He makes now recommendations for any corrections or additions needed. read more

Let me start out by saying that Randy and his team are so great, that you need to have patience if you want to work with them. They are booked out months in advance and well worth the wait. I started with a landscape designer (KL Designs) who recommended R&J Landscaping. Having a detailed plan in hand certainly helps with the bid process. My project consisted of a complete demo of my backyard, removing turf and existing plants. They installed a large paved patio, new landing step, new grass, vegetable planting containers, ambient lighting and drought tolerant, native plantings. Randy met with me in person and was very knowledgeable about landscaping. It is clear he has a passion for it. He answered all my questions and offered great suggestions. He was also clear about the cost. The bid price was the ending price. No surprises or hidden costs. Once the job started, the team moved quickly. They showed up on time and worked hard all day. They even worked on a Saturday to finish up the patio. At the end of each day, they left the yard very tidy. My neighbors even commented on how quiet they were. Once the work was complete, I had a few additional questions about the irrigation system, which Randy was very happy to answer. In the end, I am very happy with my beautiful patio and backyard. I'd give no stars if possible. Communication is key to me so I've emphasized that when hiring Randy's team and he talked a lot about communication. After 5 months of service, it's essentially non-existent to a point where the company cannot even fix the mistakes on their own invoices after the customer contacts them numerous times about it. I've explored several ways of communication with them and, to a quick email, I'd sometimes get a response in 2 weeks and there was always an excuse for the delay (family, sick,etc). I've switched to bi-weekly maintenance for the winter and the team is starting to skip weeks when maintenance is due without any notice. When at the property, the team spends a lot of time leaf-blowing, which may not be all that necessary. I'd rather they spend time pulling weeds or other specific items that were discussed upon hire in-person and noted in follow-up emails. I've tried to test the team by not cleaning or cutting something as obvious as dead plants in hanging baskets - 2 visits go by and I'm the one who ends up doing the 5 minute task. This is just one example of a glaring, obvious item for the gardening team to take care of, since it's in a visible spot and looks very ugly, plus, this is something we've talked about in person and, again, via email that was ignored. I also wasn't sure if the team sprays fruit trees or fertilizes them if I provide the materials and asked for a referral for an arborist - those questions were ignored. read more

However, I opted not to have them redo because I was concerned that they would mess up even more. I just spoke to Randy this evening about another matter I beleive connected to the job. R&J was recommended by our landscape designer. We had them come and give us a quote. We then checked Yelp and were concerned that some reviews were not that good. I called Randy and he explained each incident. We went ahead and signed the contract. We were fortunate in that there was a gap in their schedule so work began quickly. Our design included pavers for the driveway and walkway and landscaping for the front yard with low water use plants and drip irrigation. The workers were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. The finished product is excellent. All our neighbors remark how quickly the workers worked and how good our yard looks. I highly recommend R&J and gladly show our yard to prospective customers. read more

R&J Landscaping probably does do a good job but we can't rate them because they missed two, scheduled appointments to bid on our project. Both times I had to take off of work to meet at the confirmed, scheduled time, and both times Randy never showed, called, or emailed. I checked the appointment emails and our addresses (physical and email) and phone numbers were clearly present. Apparently the 2015 Best Landscaping award doesn't take into consideration communication with the customer. read more

We recently did a full remodel of our front yard and R&J did a great job! Randy and his crew were great to work with and stuck to the timeline. They were able to handle all the work we wanted done, landscape, hardscape, even removing the brick and wood siding on the house and adding stucco. It was a huge plus to us to be able to go through the same person for the work on the house and the landscaping. Most landscape contractors didn't want to touch the house. I have been incredibly impressed with the level of service, professionalism, and communication. They have ALWAYS exceeded our expectations, and they deliver their projects within the time frame and expectations that they set for each. I have not experienced anything such as noted in these negative Yelp reviews, and (working in the marketing field for over 20 years) I wonder if those reviews are being posted by competing landscape companies or someone who has a grudge against this amazing company. I find it interesting that Yelp is "hiding" four stellar reviews at the bottom of R&J's ratings as well. If you are considering a landscape project or monthly maintenance, I highly recommend that R&J be at the top of your list for consideration. read more

My wife and I contracted with R & J in July 2015 to do an extensive yard remodel at our home. Overall, we were well pleased and would hire them again. Work started in late September right after our swimming pool demolition was completed. The hardscape crew did its work first: soil deposition, driveway demolition, fence-building, concrete pouring, laying drain pipes, and building custom planters were all done promptly and well. They carefully worked around a treasured vine when building the new fence. Michael the foreman was on the job every day, communicated well with us and made sure we were completely satisfied. He also was on scene frequently while a subcontractor installed the paving-stone driveway and walkways, and the front porch tile overlay. Michael and crew then put in 2 flagstone paths skillfully and promptly. As the hardscape work was winding up, plant purchasing was handled by company president Randy. The plants that were delivered were the correct kind and quantity. The persimmon tree was not symmetrical. When we complained, Randy had it returned and got a better one for us. Plant specialist Dave came for one morning to place all the plants in their optimum places, then Ryan worked like a beaver single-handedly to plant scores of plants, run drip lines to all of them, and spread mulch. Completion date was Oct. 30, after five weeks of steady work. After completion, Randy responded promptly when a couple of minor issues arose. Other Yelp reviewers have commented that Randy is not easy to communicate with. It is true that cell phone calls are not a good way to reach him, but he does respond to emails reasonably promptly. He had two different weeks of planned absences during our project, but they did not seriously impact the progress of the work. read more
