A classic example of a dying breed: the locally-owned mom-and-pop cafe. It's all about the neighborhood here, meeting friends, working on laptops, grabbing a morning paper and a mocha. Upsides: decent coffee, although nothing to write home about, served in actual ceramic cups if you're inclined to sit a spell. A wide variety of seating options, from fireplace comfy chairs to window bar seats to classic cafe micro-tables and Adirondacks outside. Friendly atmosphere. Fair prices. Downsides: sloooowwww service. Don't come here in a hurry, because they're NOT. Wi-Fi is over-tasked and uselessly slow, unless you're the only one online. Food offerings are scant and pastries look poor and less than fresh. And, sorry, but this place is just plain ugly. The seating looks like a collection of flea market finds. The decorations are similarly, um, eclectic, looking like a display of grade school art projects, local maps, random Ikea lighting and shabby-chic clutter. And you know, if the coffee was rockin', I wouldn't care a whiff about how ugly it is. It might almost be endearing. Writing this with a bitter aftertaste in my mouth from poorly poured shots in an over-sweet mocha though, I am disinclined to find the flowers 'mongst the weeds. This was such a cute coffee shop on the eastside. It's so bright and open and airy which is perfect for these rainy days. The decor is cute with painted rain clouds on the ceiling. The coffee was served in a mug which I think more cafes should do. I enjoyed the taste of the mocha as it was not too sweet and I had it with Oat Milk which I'm currently obsessed with. I came here cause its baby and kid friendly with a little chair and table for kids and change table in the women's bathroom. This is an amazing local coffee shop! The employees are wonderfully friendly, helpful and efficient. The environment is cozy and welcoming. Many of the customers are locals and regulars that know each other and will spend time catching up. I love to pop in to this cute coffee bar when it's not busy so I can chat with owner Ronni or best buddy, Mitsuko. They always make me feel so special. I've driven past so many times, drawn to the garage-door entrance and comfy looking lounge chairs in the front. Today was the day go try it out! They have an ample variety of seating: in the shade, in the sun, outside, inside, bar chairs, comfy chairs...they thought of it all and made it work so well together. The deli/food selection is great, I tried the Rhubarb Yogurt with granola (in the fridge).....SOO GOOD. I also ordered an espresso with a cup on the side for soda water. I don't think anyone has every ordered espresso this way from her because she acted surprised and didn't know how much to give me. Oh well! The cups that the coffee is served in are so cute and homey! You'll want to stay here all day, the ladies working are super nice. read more

This is one of my favorite cafes - a hidden gem near the Bridle Trails neighborhood. It's close enough to the hustle and bustle of Microsoft campus to be a convenient drive yet it's far enough away to be quiet and relaxed. The coffee is excellent using the Oregon-based Sleepy Monk coffee beans. My favorite is the hemp milk latte and a close second is the oat milk latte. The four chairs sitting that greeted my approach sent a signal of community - and that was what I think made this spot unique. There was no line when I arrived, which gave me little room to soak in my initial feelings. I scanned the board looking for something different, but the only thing I observed was the map of Washington prominently displayed, as well as menu surrounded by a a topographical map with contour lines. Interesting! The counter staff were incredibly welcoming, as I approached with a mix of determination to get stuff done and the yearning to escape just for a moment,being lifted by an infusion of caffeine. The coffee came out delicious and piping hot , to my delight given the morning was unusually chilly. There aren't any signature drinks to speak of, so I defaulted to the chocolate mocha. The coffee itself wasn't all that spectacular, and didn't have any latte art. That being said, it was served with a super-smile that made me feel welcome instantly. Wifi was excellent - pop in the password and you'll be good to go. Had no streaming issues with video or Spotify. Just delightful. The coffee shop in itself feels inconsistent - the mix of chair types, stools, comfy chairs, baby boosters, etc. was a bit jarring. The interior décor does need a bit of work to make the experience more fluid - from the furniture choices to the artwork on the walls. It is fair to say that this spot is a work in progress. A small but important observation - everyone left with a smile. This is an awesome element every great coffee shop should strive for. I used to frequent this location when I worked right on the boundary between Kirkland and Bellevue. They have consistent quality drinks and I have yet to purchase food. I typically get a latte and love how the barista would fill it to the brim of my cup, beautiful latte art and delicious to boot. There have been a couple occasions where someone in my family ordered a drink that didn't taste right, and the staff at Down Pour was happy to make us a new drink on the house. Today I ordered a Snickers Mocha which tasted rather nasty. I asked the blonde woman behind the counter if I could get a different drink as the one I had been served was not palatable, and she said I would have to purchase a new drink. I don't understand why I would need to pay for a new drink if the one I was served was straight up garbage. My family and I have never had an issue before with having a new drink made, here or anywhere else. I go to the area so often but it's always in the afternoon so I never have a chance to try the coffee here. Finally I got to try the coffee here this morning. First impression is that they have Adirondack chairs on the front which I really really love. I like sitting outside on those chairs and watch the surrounding. The inside of the cafe is cute and very busy. It's 9.30am in the morning and I am so surprised to see the house is full. They have a wide range of seating choices. You can go here for work and sit on a high chair, or meet up with a friend and sit at a small table, or you can have a group meeting here with a long table. I definitely like the ambiance of the shop. I ordered a cappuccino and a small donut. The donut is pretty good, it's fresh and paired perfectly with the coffee. The coffee is ok, not one of the best coffee I have had. I can't taste the freshness from the beans and the taste is just so so. Basically I like the shop more than its coffee. Love this place, it's my go to study spot or I just want a place to hang out and drink coffee. They have the cutest mugs. Also I highly recommend the chicken pesto sandwich heated up, so good! Staff is always friendly and ready to greet you once you walk through the door. This a great place if you're by yourself or with a group. I like their beverages and service. I am taking off two stars for some bad customer service, in that they will NOT spend the few bucks a year to get the cup top stoppers for commuters leaving Kirkland to go to Seattle or other far-ish places. My wife has asked them twice, I have asked them, and I heard another customer request it. Their solution is to put scotch tape over it, which is a horrible, ugly, reasonably non-hygenic way to do it. (Its how they would do it in the movie Dumb and Dumber). When they have the stoppers I WILL go up to 5 stars. Until then, I have to go to a different store for long distance coffees and its just a 3 star customer experience for me. read more

I was all set to dislike this place (location, I suppose) and was giving serious side eye to the first couple reviews here in Yelp (1st time reviewers who give 5 stars to a place, hmm....) But then a friend told me they brew Sleepy Monk and I realized I had to give it a try immediately. HOWEVER, now that I know they brew Sleepy Monk, location is a huge plus. I was always peeved that the only coffee shop I have near enough to walk to is Starbucks. (No. Just NO.) And yet... Also a bad thing because I can walk here... And I was trying to cut back on my latte and overall coffee consumption. Whoops. So much for that. *Shakes fist* Damn you, Downpour, for being so much better than I pegged you for! So yeah - good coffee, yes. Great atmosphere. The interior was so much cuter and nicer than I expected. It wasn't too hipster-cool for school.
