A couple of years ago, I was charged by our association with getting an evaluation of our landscaping and finding a new landscaping company. When I first came in contact with Down To Earth, I was very impressed. Chris and I took a tour of the community, and he pointed out all the things wrong with the current landscaping company. I recommended to our board that we hire Down to Earth, and they took my recommendation and a contract was signed. Initially, their performance was impressive. Looking back, I'm not sure if this was a matter of them being good, or our former landscaping people being so bad. Be that what it is, winter came around, and with it, the only significant snowfall of the year. The response of DTE was underwhelming at best. It seemed like they were grossly undermanned to handle to storm. After the storm, they had a crew of about 3 or 4 people to handle the whole development. That was far from enough. While neighboring communities were completely cleared in a day, it took DTE 3 days to get the job done, and that was with many residents plowing themselves out. What's more, while shoveling the sidewalks, several areas throughout the development were damaged. This shouldn't have been a big deal, but a year later, despite numerous complaints to management, the damage was never fixed. Also, DTE employees used a tractor to cut grass behind our building. They did so, despite the area being wet. This created a big tire rut. Again, I have notified management several times, and even tried writing to DTE, but was never given the courtesy of a response. Meantime, DTE employees have continued to ride over the rut, making it bigger and deeper. No common sense. One of the problems with living in a development like this, is the fact you have no idea what the board is telling the contractor. As I look around the development, I see much the same that I did before we hired DTE. Weeds are a big problem, there are big patches of dead areas, and the general condition of the landscaping is just "ratty" looking. I was also surprised to see that the yearly seeding seemed to consist of throwing seed around with no rhyme or reason. They didn't even aerate the grounds. Jamie was a great salesman when I was considering whether to sign up, and now that I'm trying to get him to actually come and seed my lawn (let alone deliver other services they contracted for), he's nowhere to be found. They do lawn care for my HOA. They accidentally broke my window and took a month to agree to come look at it. They verbally apologized but haven't responded in a week since then. Certainly appears they do not want to cover cost of their damage to my home. Not to mention they often skip over my backyard for maintenance. If I could give zero stars I would! This company has been employed by my condo community for a few years now. They started fine and have slowly but surely stopped doing anything. Their employees walk around blowing the air, trying to look busy and act like they don't understand any English what so ever. We had asked them to clear an area so we could have maintenance done on AC units for over three months and are still waiting for them to do it. We have also seen them urinating on the property and when confronted, the worker simply zipped up and pretended to not understand what we were saying. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! I'm sure there's a 12 yr old close by that can do a better job for you. read more

Our development has a contract with them and they are supposed to come every 10-12 days. The last time they hadn't come in 17 days. A supervisor passed by and I flagged him down to make a complaint. They came the next day but I'm sure if I hadn't complained they wouldn't have come. When they did come, we had to ask them to come back to clean up the mess they left. Debris was blown into our beds that we just added new mulch to. They neglected the dog park and other areas. Their mower left permanent marks on the sidewalk and we believe it damaged the concrete. This week, they came late again. They sent only two men, what they probably could spare off another job. We have a worker on camera throwing a cigarette on my lawn and not mowing our area. If we hired teenagers from the neighborhood, they would do a better job!! read more

Worse ever landscaping company. They do our community landscaping. From time to time they cut our blackberry bushes with the berries on them. They manage to make the common junipers bushes ugly cutting all the green from them. They are killing strawberry plants with Roundup. They are trimming all buds from a Rhododendron bush. You cannot be safe from their work even setting warning signs. read more

Absolutely horrible service. If they do not feel like mowing your yard they will tell your HOA that the grass has not grown enough. They will still collect the same amount of money and take off for the week. read more

Poorly trained and unattantive staff that knows nothing about the bushes and doesn't care enough to see whether it's a young bush that doesn't need to be trimmed, or the bush that was shaped already. They can't tell a difference between a berry bush or a regular decorative bush. The manager, Jackie, showed herself to be very unprofessional as a landscaper (could not recognize a blackberry bush until was shown the berries) as well as a manager. When she was confronted about ruining our guelder rose bush (which of course she couldn't recognize..and she claimed to be in business for 30 years), as well as another bush that we've been working on this summer, she was trying to resolve the conflict by offering us a fertilizer to help us regrow our bush faster, but didn't keep her word. We didn't ask for it, it was her offer, but she didn't go through with it. To conclude, the staff of Down to Earth Landscaping does not seem to know enough about their supposed field of expertise and does not seem to care about its image or its clients. Would not recommend. P.S. They didn't put enough effort into making the trim nice and even, some bushes ended up oddly shaped with small branches sticking out here and there. They also weren't the best at cleaning up the mess they had created - the trash that they blew onto our lawn was left behind and almost all the bushes they trimmed had to be cleaned up because they were covered with leftover branches.
