IT was not a understatement when I stated the BEST food establishments are those formerly unknown as well as those that are the smallest and they should stay that way. On the way to an environmental training, we stopped with 15 minutes to spare before the start, and three of us had no idea what to order. Between a two hoagie and a cheeseburger - one soda and a milkshake all were delivered despite a line that filled the whole lobby entrance, and the small window of time. One of the best cheese sticks I've ever had. Down under has a small dine in area and it appeared to do mostly carry out. We were greeted when we arrived and staff was friendly and seemed to enjoy doing what they do. The Cook especially lit up when we mentioned we wanted extra fried onions on our cheesesteak. We split a large, 12 inch, as well as an order of fries and it came out to us in two separate poly containers, ready to enjoy. They put a large portion of steak on the sandwich which we thoroughly enjoyed and the actually made the fries extra crispy per our request. My only thought for improvement would be if they toasted or grilled the sub roll. I had cheese on my cheesesteak and the roll quickly became difficult to handle as it was getting very wet. My wife did not order cheese and her roll seemed to hold up better. I complemented the cook again on how much we enjoyed the sub and I think he enjoyed the feedback. A great quick and homemade breakfast option. I had the sausage egg and cheese on a roll with a hash brown. The hash brown was ultra crispy and soft on the inside. The SEC had a soft and chewy roll with a fresh egg, two patties of (greasy) sausage patties, and a slice of American cheese. The service was prompt and kind. I was driving through town today and saw the sub shop on the side of the road. I went in and ordered a cheesesteak large sub. While I was there, I was listening to how polite the staff was and how many people came in for milkshakes or root beer floats. It looks like a local hangout where everybody just comes in and enjoys themselves. When I got my sandwich. The bread was very soft and it was piled well over the top of the bun. Okay, fine. *FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER* I was advised by the young woman at the register there were no hot dog buns but that someone was rushing out to get some and would be back 'in minute.' *TEN MINUTES LATER* I said I wanted my money back and left. I noticed that behind the young woman there was a mountain of different kinds of bread, any of which could have been fashioned into a bun for a hotdog. At this time, there were about five women working there running their mouths in the back and doing nothing. Wife and I were on a ride on the motorcycle, and on the way to our destination was Down Under Pizza and Ice cream. This little place tucked into the side of the road is nothing fancy, but man what a welcome surprise! The menu is very large and is your standard fare, pizza, subs, hamburgers and Milkshakes! Wife had the Italian sub, I had chicken salad. Her sub was the small and she only finished half! My sandwich was regular bread with fresh tomato and about a half a pound of chicken salad! For two drinks ,a bag of chips, and two awesome samiches = $15!!! This will be regular stop on our rides from now on. The staff was warm and friendly, what you would expect from small town America, a welcome change from the rude chain restaurants than we all love to hate!
