First time in Berlin and 2 people recommended us to go to Sterling Tavern. It was early on a Friday and were seated immediately. They have a large menu from crab cakes ( delicious ), chicken wings to shrimp and grits(taste better than it looks). Everyone was friendly and the beer list was large.

We went after the farmers market so it was crowded but we were able to get in. A big pro was that they have high top highchairs! The waitress was great and the crushes were delicious. My clam strips were just okay and didn't taste like much other than fried food without any salt but my mom enjoyed her pizza!

Met some friends here Friday night and everything was excellent. The vibe is very laid back and comfortable. I got the pretzels for an appetizer and fried shrimp for a small plate. Wonderful experience and the service was top notch.

Steamed Shrimp (Half Pound) - Perfectly cooked!

We really enjoyed all the food we ordered and the ambience of the restaurant, however the service was a bit lacking. We received the check, the prices on the check didn't match what was on the menu. There was some back and forth with the server justifying the restaurant didn't have what we ordered from the menu therefore higher price was charged to replace what we ordered. It was little strange. Also, note that the fries that comes with the Fish & Chips comes with truffle salted fries. I know many people love truffle, but I cannot stand it. We asked for a replacement so was charged an extra $5 for it. It will probably be good to note on the menu that the dish comes with truffle salted fries. Pros/Compliments: -Food is very delicious!! -Place is clean! -Fish & Chips - Flounder was very fresh and cooked to perfection; the regular fries with no truffle tasted delicious -Steamed Shrimp- Cooked perfect, not over done -Chesapeake Oysters - Fresh and no sand :) Cons/Complaints: -Service - Drink refills, silverware, plates; Check on table; Don't enter incorrect prices and up charge -Menu - Add that fries come with truffle salt; Make sure what is ordered and the prices match what comes out on the check/bill

We got the chicken tacos, oysters and Maryland crab soup. Tacos were dry oysters good and soup only fair. The service was super slow.

A-OK, nothing wrong with this place. Outdoor seating, upstairs seating. I had the wings, half Old Bay, half Buffalo sauce, both sides were good. Buffalo sauce was perfectly mid-level spicy. Served with carrots (where's the celery?). My dining partners' orders looked adequate. Beer menu looks good, inventive drinks, just fine in Berlin.

Good place to dine outside on a nice day. Very casual place with an extensive menu. Service was a bit slow at first but got better.

The hushpuppies made up for it though! Cant wait to visit again the next time we come visit! Thank you for being so accommodating for a walk in party of 10!

Had to ask for horseradish. They were good, best part of the visit Haddock on the fish and chips was thin. Soft shell crab was cold when it was served. Drinks were reasonable. Tried Crabcake ordered by someone in our party, nothing special, calamari app ordered by another was light and crispy but very small portion for the price compared to other restaurants. This was our first time here after friends were raving. 1 regular size draft, 1 regular size cocktail, 6 oysters, fish &chips sandwich. Soft shells crab sandwich no fries: $72 Underwhelming. We won't be returning. There are better alternatives for the money. And the music? All twangy country western. Not even a little variety. Icing on this mediocre cake.

The scallops with crab imperial were fantastic according to my boyfriend. While I am not usually a scallop fan, I too thought they were pretty great. My steak was actually cooked pretty close to correct (medium-rare) so that was a huge plus. Baked potato was very tender yet not overdone!! Also had the lobster and that was very very good. Highly recommend for someone who is new to the seafood world. My daughter's snow crab legs were cooked just right and well-sized. Chicken was slightly overcooked. Pasta salad was a big thumbs up for her. My boyfriend's crab cakes were above average. We all had their famous hushpuppies, they were wayyyyyyy better than Long John Silvers that is for sure!! The first time we were here service was just a tad slow, but then on the next visit (which it was weirdly a lot busier) we had phenomenal service... I might blame that on the elderly age of the lady when we were here first. Both servers were very nice though!! The vibe is pretty laid back and family friendly.

We ordered the seafood combo that included six hard-shell crabs, three pounds of snow crab legs, a half-pound of shrimp, corn, and hush puppies. The hard-shell crabs were decent, although they seemed slightly oversteamed. The meat in the legs was practically fused to the shell, making them difficult to eat. The snow crab legs were good, but the shrimp were noticeably undercooked, which made peeling them nearly impossible. There were a few bright spots. The beer was reasonably priced at $4.50 a pint, and the hush puppies were excellent--arguably the best part of the entire meal. The corn, however, was tough and seemed past its prime. For the roughly $145 we spent on the combo, I expected a better overall dining experience. Sadly, this seems to be the standard at many seafood restaurants these days: higher prices without a corresponding increase in quality. And while it's a minor issue compared to the food, the deck seating chairs were surprisingly uncomfortable and felt out of place for a restaurant charging these prices. Overall, the meal wasn't terrible, but it fell well short of expectations given the cost.

We usually come to the Berlin, MD area twice per year and typically go to all the same places. We decided to switch it up and try something new this time, and we were very happy with our visit. The bartender was very friendly. He gave a lot of advice and recommendations on the menu. He was attentive and constantly made rounds making sure everybody was taken care of. My dad and I stuck with light beer that night. My mom ordered an Orange Crush, and it was one of her favorites all trip. The happy hour also looks great although we were a little late for that. We also ordered an array of finger foods to split amongst the three of us. Clams Casino, Calamari, Fries, and Flounder Fingers (wasn't on the menu -- the bartender suggested going with fresh flounder instead of the rockfish -- great recommendation). The Clams Casino, differently than any other I've ever had, had classic ingredients but were uniquely topped with provolone cheese. The Fried Calamari wasn't bad but a little too breaded for my preference -- still nothing to complain about. We definitely enjoyed the first night of our trip in Maryland and that was largely thanks to some time spent at Crab Alley. Everything from the feel of the bar, to the service we received, the friendliness of staff and fellow patrons, and the views overlooking the canal, gives us reason to be adding this establishment to our rotation of bars/restaurants when we're back in the area.
