There are a few things you should know before going. I thought this brewery was like most other breweries where you can sit and spend a lot of time drinking ciders. What I learned after researching is that you are only allowed to order one flight per person and they do not do single pours. Also there is a limited amount of tables so your time is limited as well. Visiting Downeast was an absolute must for my recent trip to Massachusetts. I was so hyped to be able to check out their site and get a look at where one of my favorite ciders is made. My small group arrived relatively early in the day, which was helpful since there's very minimal seating indoors. You receive tokens for trying out drinks and you can order a flight of what you want. They are limited, so if you want to keep drinking, you need to head across the way by the water to their cider garden. We got to sample a few different items, but their menu seemed slightly limited. In addition to buying cans of cider, they have merch for sale. My SO wanted a hat and ciders to go, so we approached one of two cashiers. One cashier was busy with other customers, so we went to the one who had no one in front of them. They told us to continue waiting in line for the other cashier to take us, which made zero sense to me. After waiting for a bit since the other customers had some merch issue going on, the first cashier we tried told us they would ring us up...it's fair to say that I was pretty annoyed; I'm not a fan of my time being wasted unnecessarily. $15 flights (4 tastings per flight) but only one per person. You can sit in their "lab" which is an open warehouse and only open Thursday through Sunday. A sight to see with their wall to ceiling cider cans as the assembly line can be heard in back. Overall: short review for a short experience but if you love Downeast then pop on over! The flights are reasonably priced at $14 and they even let you sample them. The "bartender" if you can even call them that helps recommend different mixes that would be good! [Out-of-Towner Review] Obsessed with this cider! I stumbled upon this cider at a local restaurant and had to seek out the Cider House a few visits later. I will say, it is very hole-in-the-wall, no-frills cider tasting (and enjoying). I love how patrons are amongst the product stacked on pallets. I love how they have so many tasting to offer, on any given visit. Because I love their cider, I just love everything else about my visit here. I travel for work, so I end up doing things solo a lot. This was no exception. I found it every easy to maneuver as a solo guest. There was plenty of space and tables for patrons and the tasting bar is also spacey. The staff was kind, funny, and rambunctious, as you'd expect at a Cider House. There are no frills and just good 'ol cider to enjoy! Driving here, since I'm unfamiliar with this area of Boston, was a little hard to get here. I was a little thrown off, but I should have guessed it would be a warehouse style place. My bad! Tons of parking and I even saw an area with cute string lights and what I'm assuming were food trucks, but I didn't wander over there. It is my mission whenever I am traveling somewhere to go to a local brewery/cidery/winery. As a lover of ciders I was excited to try out Downeast! Here they offer flights that you can turn tickets in for, or you can sip on your favorite hard cider of choice. The staff did a great job of explaining the process and filling us in on their history, which is always cool to hear. For my cider flight I went with the Sour Green Apple, Aloha Friday, Extra Hard Lemon Italian Ice, and the Maple Waffle. My favorites were the sour green apple which tasted like hard candy, and the deliciously scented maple waffle! I love that this cidery hosts people inside of their warehouse! What a cool way to spend an afternoon. Came here with some friends to try their ciders and pleasantly surprised. Not a huge cider fan here (outside of Renaissance Fairs because of the atmosphere) but have become a fan of Downeast. Traveling here is no fun because there are roads that are blocked off that GPS doesn't know about but once there, there is parking by the Wearhouse. You walk into what seems like the back door but is really the front to large stills of cider (very cool to be right in the middle of it). There is someone to greet you (all employees were cool and let you try the different flavors) once you round the corner but there may be a line due to limited seating. Once you get your seat you can go up and order a flight of four to try. Great experience and good cider. Things to note: 1. In the summer they have a tent out front that has a license to sell more than flights. 2. I love Downeast Cider, so the cidery is always high on our priority list when we have the chance to visit Boston. We stopped by on a recent chilly Sunday and had just a brief wait for a table. They're currently only serving flights and limit these to one per customer, presumably to keep guests flowing well. We opted for some taphouse-only ciders as we're lucky enough to be able to purchase cans locally at home, so between our two flights, we tried the Watermelon, Cherry-Peach, Raspberry Iced Tea, Deep Winter, Mulled Cider, Strawberry Lemonade, and Pomegranate. They were nice enough to provide a sample of the mimosa for us when asked as well. Our favorites were the watermelon (delightfully refreshing and fruity) and the Deep Winter (incredible maple apple pie flavors with a cozy vibe), but all of these ciders were excellent and made us sad we didn't have a way to take growlers on our flight. As we wrapped up our flight, we were approached by a Downeast employee and offered the chance to participate in their R&D process. We got to stop by a separate room where we were given samples of their margarita cider and asked to participate in a survey to give our feedback. This is really a brilliant play on their part --- they get feedback from customers who are likely to purchase Downeast, and we got to feel valued and honored to be selected. To get to Downeast via public transit, we took the Blue Line to Maverick and enjoyed the lovely 10-15 min walk along the waterfront parks and neighborhoods. We stopped by on a busy Sunday afternoon and waited about ten minutes to get into the bar. We ordered two different flights of cider with blackberry, grapefruit, fruit punch, peach mango, sangria, half & half (cider and tea), mimosa, and pear. We left with two growlers of blackberry and pear, as well as multiple four packs and some merch. During our visit we learned that the bar service was new to the biz, and beforehand they only hosted tours. They limited one flight per person, and still ran out of flight glasses! We offered to reuse ours as not to miss out. Pleasant visit thanks to friendly staff, perfected brews and scenic Atlantic views. During the pandemic I randomly picked up a pack of Downeast at a liquor store while waiting for my Chinese food order was cooking next door. We loved it and the taproom has been on our list of things to do since. I'm sure every other review mentions most of my same points. Strange location with no outside signage and difficult to find. Taproom is in the middle of the warehouse/brewing floor. Because of this your given a single wooden nickel on entry which you hand in when you buy your one flight. Strange but kudos to them for making it work on a warehouse floor. My wife definitely picked the better flavors for her flight than I did. Unfortunately it's summer time and cider donut wasn't available which is far and away better than anything they had available. Guess we'll have to come back in the fall. read more

Out last stop on our trip was a trek out to the port where you'll leave the hustle and bustle of downtown Boston and escape to a nearby park with a growler and cans of Downeast Cider. The park is in a great location that next time we will grab some drinks and enjoy that. Downeast Cider currently offering online and in store pick ups for their cans and growler will be a fan favorite for those that need something lighter for their summer days. I will be returning to see what the tasting room is like and I know my friends will be joining me. I admit my only experience with cider is Angry Orchard, so when I had a flight here, I felt like my world was revolutionized. I also checked out their outdoor patio just a walk across the parking area, where they have a hard lemonade available (highly recommend) and nice seating by the water. There was quite a line by the time I left, and I wasn't taking my time. My favorites were the Double Blend and the Peach Bellini. I also tried the blackberry and cherry flavors, which tasted exactly like I expected (tart berry and melted icee, LOL). I didn't think any of them were cloyingly sweet, but the bitterness I associated with alcohol was so well masked that I could've easily kept drinking. Ever since I fell in love with Downeast Original at a local pub, I embarked a journey to search and try all seasonal varieties available at local package stores. In March of 2020, I decided it was time to make a visit to the cider house in Boston. Unfortunately, COVID decided to rain on my parade so I had to wait almost 2 1/2 years to finally make a trip. My boyfriend and I visited on a very hot and busy Sunday afternoon. We started off by ordering a drink (orange creamsicle and blue slushie) at the outside pop-up bar. Unfortunately, it was so busy that we had nowhere to sit or keep cool from the scorching hot sun. The crisp coldness of my delicious orange creamsicle drink helped keep me somewhat refreshed. Sadly though, my boyfriend was unhappy with his drink. To be clear, he is NOT a hard cider fan at all but tagged along to keep me happy (best boyfriend ever!) After finishing our first drinks, I wanted to go into the main facility and order a flight. The seating was very limited, but luckily we didn't have to wait for a spot. The atmosphere was super fun, literally music blasting and staff dancing around making it feel like a party. I ended up getting Deep Spring, Strawberry Lemonade, Guava Passionfruit, and a mixture of the Blue Slushie, White Slushie and Red Slushie. I thoroughly enjoyed each one, but my personal favorite was the Guava Passionfruit. Before leaving, I made sure to take home some growlers. Reflecting on my visit, I don't see myself running back for the in-person experience. I wish more seating was available inside the facility and outside for the pop-up bar, as well as food. However, I did recently make the 2 hour drive to pick up the exclusive Deep Summer (Pina Colada heaven) and look forward to picking up future exclusive flavors. read more
