Great old building in a tough location because it is near the downtown and growth for the many decades may make it difficult to park. However, that is just growth. But what causes to make this location close over 1/2 an hour EARLY yesterday, July 23rd 2026 makes it difficult. As me and another patron looked puzzled to have the doors locked, I needed to get my package scanned as I sell online and has a deadline. Luckily, I traveled to the Westmont Post Office, hoping they have accurate hours as they are open later. It was. (wheh!) As a result of asking a few others, I understand this is not something strange, but that shortages of a staff has been the result. So this is more common than not. Luckily for me, haven't been to this DG location in many years. My local post office is great (the best out of dozens in the area (Northlake) as are the other dozens of locations in the past few years. Walked in to get 15 graduation announcements hand stamped as a nice touch. I was told she didn't have time, understandably, there was another person behind me, only one and promised they would be done later. I had one returned undelivered and they were NOT hand stamped. Never again, I will go to Medina post office near my work next time, always pleasant and I did confirm the baby shower invitations were hand stamped (was brought to my attention how nice that was). read more

Many times in the past and now just recently our customers have told us that the checks that they have sent to us (going through DG USPS) have been stolen and washed. They are not lying - they have sent us photos of the checks that were changed to an indivduals name. I would think it would be someone from the DG post office doing this. It has happened about 6 times in the last two months. We have asked our customers to call and report these incidents. Has anyone else experienced this? read more

The absolute worst! Third time this month a package said it was delivered but it wasn't. I have called the post office 16 times since they opened two hours go and can not speak with someone. They just refuse to answer the phone. The two previous times they were able to locate my packages (one was delivered a week after showing delivered and the other one 9 days after). The fact that they mark it as delivered (when it wasn't) makes it impossible to fight on PayPal, EBay, Amazon, etc. The USPS needs to go there is obviously no one working there to even answer a phone call. read more

We came for our two young kiddos passport appointment here, and it was a seamless experience. The staff were all very friendly, and the person helping with our application was extremely patient with young ones and very helpful through the whole process. I would absolutely recommend this facility for your passport needs, including getting the picture done, as it was a time server and cost effective relative to other quick stop options. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever had to deal with. Waited for 30 minutes -- no clerks to be seen--but plenty of laughter coming from postal workers in the back. Mail was put on hold while I was out of town and I received an email informing me that held mail would be delivered...two days later I had received no mail. However my mail was delivered twice when I was gone. This is not a once off problem. We only receive mail 3-4 times a week on average. Slow service, poor attitude-one of the slowest post offices I've ever been to even worse than Chicago

On Tuesday, 2/2, I called the DG post office to find out why I did not receive any mail on Monday. No one on my street did either. I have informed delivery, so I know what is supposed to arrive. The female employee I spoke with retorted, "Informed delivery has NOTHING to do with what we do here. That is a mechanical process that occurs at a different location." Interesting excuse since traditionally informed delivery is on the money with what arrives at my house, that day. Today, Monday, 2/8, I called to again tell them that I did not receive my mail, even though informed deliver said, I had mail coming. AND I STILL have not received the 2 bills and a personally letter that was supposed to arrive on 2/2. An employee picked up the phone and immediately said, "Please hold." Thirty-five minutes later I was STILL "on hold". I called back. Same thing, "Please hold". That is what is called NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Usually, the Mail Carrier is the same; recently I have observed what appears to be training of another Mail Carrier. 07/30/21-Friday, I checked my mail to find a Final Notice with a Sorry we missed you while you were out but I do not recall any buzzer being buzzed that day & an Available for pick up after 07/27/21, listed as a Final Notice & a We will hold until 08/02/21. WHERE WAS THE FIRST NOTICE & WHY SUCH A SHORT TIME FRAME??? Prior this year, I have also not received mail sent from this same Sender with no return to this Sender relating to Personal Counseling Matters, UNTIL mid-July when I received another peach slip with a .49 cents due. THIS WAS FROM MARCH, 2021. Post Office, where had this been all that time, it was thick enough NOT to miss. On hold over 35 minutes now waiting to discuss current issue with 800-275-8777. Approx. after 44 minutes answered & they could not find the code in the system, sent through to hold for another day, I was advised they are only delivering one notice so I advised they need to change what they have in writing on their peach slips which lists: First Attempt & Final Notice. Well, just received a call from Post Office at 1:32 p.m. stating this was from 07/01/21 & when finally delivered 08/03/21 it was Postmarked 06/22/21. UPDATE: While I was advised by Post Office this was from the beginning of July 2021. I never received a 1st notice or I would have been in to pick it up. We went in to the Post Office last month & picked up a letter postmarked MARCH 16, 2021. Something is amiss here Post Office! So why did the Downers Grove Post Office hold onto PRIVATE SENSITIVE CONFIDENTIAL PERSONAL MAIL since March, 2021 when I only received the Notice mid-July 2021 along with .49 Postage Due only to have another from the same SENDER done in a similar fashion? OK I am going to state how RUDE your associate was first I has a nice Bubbled packing envelope from fed ex. Which I recycled it to ship out pkg USPS. She makes a smart comment about it. Is that a law that I can not use. Then 2nd pkg shipping label was crinkled and could not be scanned. I asked if she had a knife , so I could straighten it out. One of the worst post offices in western suburbs! Lobby is a mess, over filled trash containers, only one clerk at 3:30 PM with a note on lobby door "I'm out to lunch till 4:00 PM." Self service stamp machine out of stamps. Take your business to Lisle PO. I don't know why people are so bitchy. I love the staff here. The manager is always singing and happy. The staff is friendly and efficient. Sure, they won't let you use a credit card unless it's signed. Sure, they're very particular about taping your packages the right way. Sure, you can't just send anything you want to Canada. But it's the US postal service, not the neighborhood communication center. The team here is professional, expedient and friendly. As far as post offices go, I'm happy to have my PO Box here. Compared to where I used to live, the DG USPS is great. They get you through the line quickly, are friendly and polite, but as with most government entities, they trip all over themselves in their own processes. For example, when I have my mail held, they require me to produce not only my identification, but two pieces of mail with my name and address on them in order to receive my held mail. This seems a bit...sticky? First, if I'm asking for a particular name/address and my ID clearly states that I am who I am, isn't that enough? Get there at 2:35 for a passport renewal process. 1 person working the counter, line of 8 people. Seriously? Someone from back comes up and announces if anybody needs to buy stamps or is using a debit card. I'm next so I say "I'm using a debit card and here for passport renewal." Response is "oh the person who process the passport renewal has gone home." I ask what time they stop, she says 3. Check my watch and it's 2:40. Um ok. I think none of us expect much from postal workers, but the clerk, Patricia, didn't even come close to the lowest expectations. Patricia spent almost 15 minutes talking about health issues while processing 4 parcels. When they were done they continued talking while we waited . Absolutely appalling. My mailbox had some old mail in it, and the carrier decided to take everything out and assume that no one lives there anymore. When I called in to ask about 2 packages that were supposed to be delivered, they claimed they put a notice in my mailbox and didn't bother delivering my items. Instead, they let it sit in their office, then put "undeliverable" on the tracking update, and returned the package to the sender. During my call, I explained the tracking update situation, and the guy on the phone (although he was patient), simply said "You should have called earlier. That's how we do things here. And it's his (the carrier's) words against yours". Are you serious? You had one job, and you decide to say "well I'm going to assume no one lives there anymore and not even try to deliver the package". For some odd reason, it didn't stop him from putting advertisements and letters in my mailbox. Nope. Just packages I've been waiting for the entire month. I called in because I wanted help. Saying "well it's out of the facility now and I don't know what to do" isn't exactly reassuring. Hopefully they'll decide to try and deliver the package once it comes around again. The Downers Grove Post Office is the single most pathetic business I have ever had the displeasure of attempting to deal with. Our mail goes missing, regularly as we never have the same carrier. Certified mail is returned because the carriers are too lazy to ring the door bell and just claim that we aren't home. And God help you if you have to actually go into this maze of confusion as no one knows anything to help you!! The Postmaster has zero customer service skills, the help is less than friendly or intelligent, you go through the proper channels to hopefully ensure that delivery problems won't occur but surprise - one infuriating issue after another continues! We have lived in Downers Grove 28 years. The first 25 years we had stellar delivery and postal service - what ever the heck they did 3 years ago, has made using this post office a night mare now!! We are going to have to pay for a post office box just to get our mail timely and accurately. What a joke this establishment is!!! read more

Poor customer service, zero effort. I asked to pick up a package. The employee did not give a firm answer, but stated she would have to "dig through a bundle". I know that employees can look for packages that have been scanned in at the post office. The female employee told me she had been at work since 5am. In the private sector, you cannot complain to customers about your hours or demonstrate zero effort in the way of customer service. She also told me her manager was no longer at the post office. It was the employees way of saying "you are at my mercy" and she made no effort. I didn't ask for a manager. I went around the corner to problem solve my situation which left the employee to think I had left. I then overheard the employee rudely and in an unprofessional manner discuss my request. My Mom has lived in Downers Grove since the early 1940's at the same address. Just the other day she received a bill that was mailed from Westmont postmarked Jan 9 on Jan 19. The envelope was opened and crushed and the letters NSN was printed on the envelope. Really????? How is that possible???? She has told me that for the last few years she has had nothing but problems with her mail delivery. She has also received mail that was supposed to go to Canada delivered to her. Man I HATE to sound like one of countless, stupid, trite memes your facebook friend from high school posts, but I can very clearly understand why the USPS is suffering. They are teetering pretty close to "completely incompetent" territory. I came here Saturday to apply for a passport. It was a miserable experience and I will be as brief as possible: -when I got here, one person was ahead of me and a family was being helped. I was optimistic for the first 45 minutes of waiting. -the people being helped had an infant who would not wake up for her passport photo. They were snapping and waving maniacally trying to get this baby to open its eyes. Mortifying (not the post office's fault, but still). -when they were done, the ONE human who was working the passport desk moved on to the woman in front of me, who seemed quite nice but passport desk guy clearly was annoyed with. He was very short with her, and when she couldn't find a piece of paper, kicked her and her whole family out of line. He wouldn't let her take her mostly completed application because he had signed it. He said he "hoped" they could get this all done prior to closing. What. Also, what. And in conclusion, WHAT?! -finally, my turn. This guy moved at some kind of insane snail place but somehow we got him to accept all my papers, take my photo, and sign off on my application. I advised him I needed my passport expedited. He nodded and moved on. -when I was checking out, I was surrounded by a woman yelling at an elderly lady about how she taped her box shut, another guy yelling at a different customer, and my guy sloooooowly typing nonsense into his computer, then demanding $60. I asked if that was the expedited processing fee. He said yes, it's being shipped expedited. I said no no, I need the actual process expedited, I'll pay the extra fee. He said yeah sure, it'll be expedited back too. I sighed, took my receipt, climbed over the two monster children who were slithering around on the floor, and left. I still don't know if I'll get a passport in time to leave the country. I do know I will never go back. read more

I am not a Downers Grove resident, so I cannot comment on mail delivery from this post office. However, I do visit the Downers Grove Post Office a few times each week to ship packages for my business. I was only treated rudely once by a staff member at this post office. Normally, I think the workers are courteous. Best of all, the Downers Grove Post Office has a self-service machine where customers can buy postage and ship packages. It is a great way to buy postage--since you don't have to deal with anyone! In addition, the lobby where the self-service machine is located is open 24-hours, which is very convenient. read more

Earl, the post office clerk makes every visit a pleasure. It's much cheaper to use the post office than the private delivery services and I've never had any problems with delivery. I know when I enter this post office I will be treated courteously and receive efficient service, especially if Earl is my clerk. Highly recommended. read more
