This is an AMAZING hole-in-the-wall diner on the Oregon Coast. The food is amazing, the service is amazing, and the place is so small that you literally feel like you know everyone in the building (and the staff treats you like you're a regular, even though you're clearly a tourist). We were on our way home looking for a good breakfast . A local store recommend Downie's. They said it's small and usually a wait but worth it. Couldn't agree more. We shared a cinnamon roll. HUGE! Very good, served with butter but you don't need it. We ordered the farmers omelette and meat lovers omelette. We could finish half of it. They were very busy yet the waitress was polite and on it. Downie's Cafe is small but mighty, as in a mighty fine breakfast. Hubs and I ate there a couple days back and enjoyed everything. Wee little place but clean and neat. Tables packed in tightly but everyone seemed happy and content. We had to sign a list hanging beside the door outside to wait for seating. We didn't have to wait long, 15 minutes or so was all. We ordered basic breakfast fare, Biscuits and Gravy (which I am always very leery about because I have tasted some horrible renditions) and an eggs, browns, bacon and toast plate. Happy to say everything was excellent. I often wonder how places can mess up your basic breakfast but they sure can and its always lovely to eat at a place that has it down perfect. Oh, and the $9 GIGANTIC cinnamon roll? Worth every penny. I'm picky because I know how to make a mean-ass cinnamon roll myself. Made them every Monday morning for 18 years while working at a lodge in Alaska. We'll definitely be returning to this charming little eatery. read more

Came to Tillamook for a nice getaway weekend, and found this cute little diner in the next town over. They had amazing food, I got a classic breakfast and it's some of the best I've ever had. Small little diner beside a convenience store. Very friendly server we had and she was super star! There were never any tables empty and she did her darndest to make sure everybody was taken care of. The food order came out as taken by tables no skipping the line. Food was good standard breakfast fare. Eggs bacon sausage etc.. cooked well and enough to keep your tank full for the day. I do not have a negative thing to say. We love this place. We just moved to town and ate here twice the first week. Do yourself a favor and eat the biscuits!!! Life changing. Both visits we took home pie for later (Marionberry then chocolate peanut butter) they were absolutely amazing!! Our sever said she was still in training, never would have guessed. Oh my goodness!! This place is amazing! The portions are beyond large! The Cinnamon Roll is bigger than my husbands head! Truthfully you can split a plate and still not be able to finish it. The food itself is outstanding! I wish there were more stars I could give them. Like my husband always says "Good food done right!" My husband got the meat omelette and I got the breakfast sandwich. Truthfully I don't usually like breakfast sandwiches. But this one was wonderful. The sausage patty was well seasoned and pressed thin with lots of cheese and an egg cooked right! The Hash browns!! Oh the Hash Browns... they are made fresh! I mean someone actually shredded these in the kitchen!! The crust on them was perfect and the inside was cooked to perfection. You guys really nailed it! Following local recommendations for a good, local, seafood dinner, in August 07 we stopped in for the first night Downie's was open again for dinner service. We were impressed with the homemade quality of the food, homestyle entrees with a coastal flair, and good portions for the price ($10-14 a person). Service was very friendly, like sharing a dining room with newly found friends. That Downie's isn't much larger than a dining room certainly helped carry the mood. None of the fish is harvested locally--we couldn't find any restaurants that did serve such--but it was tasty. It was the service that set it a notch above for us. We felt welcomed like locals, and took some time to chill out in the peacefulness of the Oregon Coast, eating something that tasted "local." The homemade clam chowder really made an impression as did the flaky and slightly tart homemade marionberry pie. In this nondescript cafe just north of Tillamook in Bay City, tucked out of sight from the coastal highway, we enjoyed an hour of warmth and comfort that felt almost like family. We'd love to stop in again to Downie's if we visit Tillamook and the region again. === 2010 summer update: Driving the Oregon coast we made it a point to hit Downie's for lunch. It appears that dinner service is unavailable again, but they were open for lunch all the same. The service and experience wasn't as charming as our visit in '07 but the food was still good. I'd need to knock 'em down a star if it wasn't for the fresh marionberry pie. :-) read more
