BEWARE of Downriver Appliance Repair - 734-444-3503! These guys are liars and thieves. My fridge wasn't keeping cold, so I called them out. The tech claimed he checked everything and said it just needed a coolant refill. He filled it and then hit me with a bill for $800 -- and that was supposedly with a discount. I thought the price was outrageous, but he insisted it was normal. Thankfully, I got a second opinion. I called around and was referred to Durocher's in Monroe. Their technician came out, did a simple pressure test, and found the real problem: a leak in the evaporator coil. I told the Durocher's tech what Downriver Appliance Repair did, and he flat-out said they ripped me off. A refrigerant refill, IF that was all it needed, should have been no more than $250. But in my case, it never should've been refilled at all without checking for leaks first. Bottom line: Downriver Appliance Repair charged me $800 for a temporary, pointless fix without doing proper diagnostics. These guys are either inexperienced or just scamming people when they're in a tough spot. Shame on them for taking advantage of people like this. I wouldn't trust them to fix a toaster. read more

Kevin told me a clogged filter was the reason my washer machine was no longer spinning. Charged me $125 and insisted on cash or Venmo. Said credit cards were a problem. Called within an hour to say machine still not spinning. He said quit touching buttons and let it be..It never ran even while empty. Attitude from the start was my first clue. Banging on my door then rang the door bell and did the FedEx thing getting back into his car to leave. Another minute and I would have missed this awful experience. I answered and he didn't say "Hi, my name is Kevin" he said "I'm really busy, where is your washer?". He also didn't care to come back to try and fix it. Why would he care? He had my money. Unbelievable service from Kevin when he made an emergency repair to my washing machine. I called 3 other places on a Sunday afternoon when my washer quit working. Thank God that Downriver appliance had a service techician on call. Kevin answered the phone and stated that he would be by in 20 minutes to do the repair... He showed up in 10 and immediately diagnosed the problem and completed the repair!! We are unbelievably grateful for not only the availability of Kevin and Downriver Appliance on a Sunday afternoon, but also his prompt professional service. 02/13/23 - I do not recommend!!! Do not waste your money!!! I called 12/27/22 for service on washer/dryer. Techs came out a few days later and quoted $880 for dryer belt, dryer timer, washer clutch and washer agitator and promised to waive the $125 service fee. The owner finished the repair 01/12/23z I asked for my receipt and they said the office would email a detailed receipt to be by next day. I called 01/13/23 and left a voice mail. I called back 01/16 and she said they would work on it and email me immediately. I have called over and over and over and only get excuses. I even ran into owner Kevin at Southgate Meijer's and he says they have a "shitty computer system." I've asked a receipt mailed via USPS or dropped off and still nothing. I feel scammed!!! read more

The owner, Kevin Baatz, wanted $240 for the job. Come to find out later, more than anyone else. He dropped the price to $200 if I would help him. He then gave me another 10% for being a veteran, dropping to a final price of $180. I found out later that another gentleman, with all 5 star reviews, from Angie's List would have done it for $100. Yet, that is my fault for being impatient. The worst part is the quality of work. 1st, he didn't use the template provided with the microwave. He misjudged the upper 2 bolts holding the microwave to the cabinet. Correcting that mistake caused 2 unnecessary holes being drilled into my cabinetry. His attitude was "No biggie". His lack of respect for my home was/is disturbing. After he left, I decided to return the micro the next day. While taking down said microwave I noticed that he had stripped the heads of the 2 bolts going into the studs on the wall. I was "lucky" enough to get a bite on them with vise grips. And lastly, the bracket holding the microwave was 1/4" too low when it should have been flush. Hence, the bottom part of that bracket was not really supporting the microwave. Caveat emptor, better professionals are out there that will respect your home. Be patient, & do your due diligence in choosing. PS - I've never seen someone cash my check so fast. . . read more

After $664 and a few visits my fridge is worse than it was before I called Kevin. A year in a half before this past visit called Kevin out had to special order a part. Not a big deal but when it arrive it was the wrong one so he said no problem decided to cut the connector off and soldered the connector off the bad one to the new one. Honestly not sure how this guy is still in business. He is near impossible to reach & offered to install parts for free after not fixing it the first time just to turn around and send a $900 invoice.. On March 4th, Kevin (the owner) installed a new pump on my washing machine & after paying $225 for material & labor the issue is was still not resolved. i contacted him immediately & was told he would be out the following week. He then told me there were other parts that need to be replaced & he would do so at NO CHARGE which he did. But that also didn't resolve the issue, so after the 3rd time coming out to my house he told my husband that it was actually the motor & that would also be no charge. That was almost a month ago & we haven't heard from him nor has he returned any calls. Today we received a $900 invoice for a motor that was never even installed & parts we were told would be covered by the company. We were patient & tried contacting him about the motor but after no contact we just wanted a refund. We have been more than understanding but after receiving this invoice, I feel there's not much more I can do to resolve this issue but to let people know how he runs a business & treats customers read more

If I could give this company a "zero" rating, I would. We just moved here from California and our washer went out in transit(?)(That's another story). We called and the first time out was a $300.00+ bill for some sort of balancers that had to be ordered. The repair was made and 2-3 minutes after Kevin (the owner) and his buddy left the same thing happened. Kevin and his wife came back the next day and I was told he had forgotten to plug back in some sensor. Again, within five minutes after he and his wife left, the washer quit again. I called and his wife told me they couldn't come back because they were now on a call an hour away. I questioned how that could be beings they had just left my house. I was told they would call me. I didn't hear from them for two days after I called him. Another trip into the house and I was told the sensor (yes, the same one he forgot to plug back in) needed replaced. His exact words were "that's the only other thing it could be". Of course, the part had to be ordered and another few days passed before they returned. After 20 minutes and horrific banging I was told I was "good to go". This time, I insisted they stay until the washer completed the cycle. They waited in their truck. When the alert came up (again) I called them and told them they needed to come back into the house as the washer was still not repaired. I was told they needed to go take care of a personal situation and they would call me. That was over 2 weeks ago! I called Busen's Appliance and they were here the next morning. The repairman showed me exactly what was wrong with the machine and informed me that in reality, I could buy a brand new washer for just a little more than what it would take to fix it. Finally! Some honesty!! To wrap this diatribe up, I have not heard from Downriver Appliance Repair since. I would suggest that Kevin learn some honesty and humility to allow himself to admit when he is presented with a problem that is far beyond his skill set and that the repair doesn't have a YouTube video for reference. read more
