Not that this place needs yet another rave review, here we go anyway. :) The offices are very nice, modern, and clean, and you have great views of downtown even when you're lying in the chair. The hygienists are all great (I had Jamie twice and someone else another time), and most of all, I love Dr. Funderberg. She is super sweet. I've had a few cavities filled with her and it's always a total breeze. She's very concious of minimizing your pain and making the process as quick as possible. They always get you in and out right on time. And like the other reviews have said, they are very upfront about the costs. I had two cavities filled with her yesterday at lunch... what's crazy is that I was having a bad morning and yet I left the dentist in a better mood! That seems pretty rare to me. read more

After searching for a dentist in Chicago I came across Downtown Dental on Yelp. I have been going to them for years and have had all good experiences with them. I have had a lot of dental issues so I go to the dentist more than the average person. I have seen Dr. Patel and Dr. Marriott for root canals and fillings and all have gone really well. They have gotten me in last minute when my tooth cracked and another time when I had severe tooth pain. The dental hygienist are all skilled and gentile with their patients. The best part is they can tell you what everything is going to cost before hand. The work with you and your insurance to be sure you can afford the work they are going to perform. I had to make an emergency appointment to check out an achy tooth. Downtown Dental got me in within two hours of calling. Their equipment is state of the art and super-efficient. Maybe you're not as geeky as I am, but it's pretty cool to get a full x-ray in under a minute and see it on the dentist's screen immediately. Dr. Patel also snapped a picture of the problem tooth and explained the problem and solution simply and efficiently. But here's the real reason I'll be going back to Dr. Patel: He found a small cavity and told me "don't worry about it for about 2-3 years; you'll need it filled eventually, but it's no big deal right now." Excuse me? No B.S., no unnecessary procedures, no suggestion to whiten my smile or move my bite over a millimeter or two (I've had dentists try to sell me on that). While other dentists, upon finding a small cavity, would likely be revving their drills and asking for my credit card, Dr. Patel gave me an honest assessment. I'll be back to let him fill that cavity, for sure, but I'll be back even sooner. read more

I just recently moved to Chicago and chose dr Palsis to be my dentist. I do not regret it one bit. He is extremely helpful, conservative, and smart in regards to my healthcare. My old dentist wanted to fill a number of cavities all at once and dr Palsis said that wasn't necessary. Although I do have one cavity to be filled, I trust his decision as he ensured to show me exactly why the tooth needs a filling on the X-ray and even took more pictures to provide further backup so I could be completely informed. He is very friendly and knows how to make you feel like you're visiting a friend instead of being in the dentist's chair awaiting your doom. All of the equipment in his office is state-of-the-art. I went to the dentist yesterday and had a lot of fun :D The hygeniest was really fun and very easy to talk to. She made me feel comfortable about being squeamish and assured me that I was not being a huge baby. So I went to the dentist after 1.5yrs bc my last dentist stood me up twice and didn't really apologize. Also I got huge bills although I was assured my insurance covered all the procedures. Anyway, from my last dentist, I was under the impression that I had a TON of cavities and my teeth were in bad shape. Yesterday, much to my delight, Dr. Patel told me that I don't have any cavities and triple checked. Not even one... He sealed two of my molars to avoid decay and charged me a very reasonable amount. I have a root stuck in my gum from my oral surgery two yrs ago and he was going to remove it free of charge! I mean, talk about great customer service and establishing good patient relationships. Lastly, I may need a dental implant and he explained to me my options in full detail and did not pressure me into making any decisions. He even explained that the less expensive option was absolutely sufficient. I am very pleased with the level of customer service and Dr. Patel's great demeanor with his patients. We briefly discussed Yelp and how he has good ratings and he said he was going to check it out. I think his attitude toward what he does is refreshing and I look forward to only having to go every 6 months. read more

I've lived in Chicago for over 2 years now, and for the past 2 years, I've been searching for a great dentist. My search is over. Downtown Dental has my business so long as I live in Chicago. Reasons why I liked them: - State-of-the-art technology (so many new painless tactics that weren't available back when I was a kid) - Quick! Multiple cavities filled within my 1 hour lunch break. - Color photos of what's going on inside your mouth! Have you ever felt like you were getting scammed into hundreds of dollars worth of dental work? Did you ever feel like you wanted to go get a second opinion? Do you have any idea what those x-rays are showing?! Dr. Patel stuck a small camera wand inside my mouth and took individual close-up photos of the teeth that concerned him. After seeing the pictures, I finally understood what was going on inside my mouth. And I completely trusted his recommendation of what work needed to be done. - Friendly! Dr. Patel was very informative and answered all of my questions. Dr. Funderburk was even better! I've never had such a pain-free and informative experience. - Upfront about costs! I told them that I was under '2 weeks notice' at work, and was trying to get all my dental work done within 2 weeks. Usually, trying to schedule 3 follow-up appointments within 2 weeks is impossible, but they totally worked with me. I was able to get all of my dental work done before my insurance ran out. I can't say enough how pleased I am with Downtown Dental. They were so prompt with seeing me. My appointments were at 12 and 1230 (2nd day) and Iwas literally in the chair at those times. I was so nervous as i needed a root canal and heard bad stories about them but I didnt feel a thing. Dr Young was so nice and accommodating she even did a personal follow up over the pbone. Dr.Palsis  tool care of my deep cleaning and fitting the crown and I didn't feel a thing. Not even the shots!!! I have a low tolerance for pain on top of that I can't lay flat on my back with out getting dizzy and both doctors understood and did the procedure standing up. I will definitely continue to go to Downtown Dental for all my oral care. read more

I was so scared to go to the dentist, petrified for 10 years. I finally got dental insurance and made myself go and I am SO HAPPY with Downtown Dental. I had a friend recommend them to me and now I've made another friend and like 5 co-workers go too! Barbara is the kindest, most gentle hygienist you'll ever meet. I purposely schedule my check-ups with her only. So far I've had two crowns, a root canal, three cavities filled and three check-ups with Downtown Dental and I have no fear of the dentist anymore. Even if I move further out of the city, I will make sure to come here twice a year for my check-ups. I've never had such a good experience in a medical setting. I was slightly skeptical after seeing a perfect 5 stars on yelp for this dentist. After my cleaning today I can absolutely see why they have gotten such a perfect reputation. The hygienist was great and took the time to perfectly clean my teeth that have seen better days. The doctor was very nice in explaining everything so I could understand. I cannot think of a single bad thing to say. After seeing my teeth and hearing my experience my wife was so amazed that she will be switching to Downtown Dental after a less than stellar experience with a certain highly rated south loop dentist. read more

UPDATE: Immediately after I posted this review, I was contacted and my concerns were completely fixed. I appreciate the customer service and attentiveness. Turns out, the insurance issue was more of my insurance provider's problem than the dental office itself. Looking forward to continuing my relationship with this office. I had a great dental experience here until i was told only seven days before the effective date that the office would no longer take my type of insurance. I did not have time to get an appointment in within those seven days. Now I have to either wait 6 months for open enrollment to change my benefits or find a new dentist. I think it was handled horribly and I should have been given some sort of advanced notice that the insurance was changing. I am left with having to start from scratch if I want my teeth cleaned or cavities filled anytime soon. Bummer. read more

I moved to Chicago a little over a year ago and had to find a new dentist. I narrowed my options down to location and in-network providers. I chose Downtown Dental because of all of the great reviews online and I have to say that I'm extremely happy with my decision. I've had about three or four appointments already and I continue to be impressed with the friendly service, comfort and professionalism the office maintains. I've seen a couple different dentists in this office and I've concluded that the entire staff is just wonderful!! I had written a not great review for Dr. Patel, because I felt they were not considerate of my pocketbook, and ordered expensive work to be done that still ended up in me losing the tooth.Dr. Patel read my review and sat down and talked to me about it. After listening to his side of the story, I realized that it was not him that I was having the complaint against, but it was the specialist that they sent me to. The specialist did not communicate with me the possibility that all of the expensive work would still result in a lost tooth in a very short amount of time. I really appreciate how Dr. Patel took the time to calmly and sincerely state his point of view, then allowed me to do the same. I think Dr. Patel is a great communicator, and is willing to work with the client if you have any disagreements. His taking the time to hear my side of the story, along with me hearing his shows respect for both me and himself. I completely recommend this dental group. Just for reference, here is my original review, in which I had given a 2 star rating. I completely take that back now, and happily give a 5-star rating: Dr. Patel and his staff do good work, but I also feel the recommendations they give are to enrich themselves and take money out of your pocket. I had a tooth with an old root canal. Their suggestion was to replace the root canal, replace the cap when I was having pain. Not 6 month later, I have to have the tooth pulled after spending thousands of dollars. Now I am going to have to spend thousands of dollars again. I am self-pay, so this is not good for me. I'm not complaining about the quality of work, just that they don't take into consideration that we aren't all rich, nor do we all have dental insurance to cover all of this. read more

I've never been so pleased after a dental visit. I just started working downtown, and came here on recommendation from a coworker--she's slowly converting our whole office to Downtown Dental patients, and every coworker who's taken her up on the recommendation has come back literally raving about it. None of us have ever been to such a friendly, competent, comfortable dental office. I've worked in a dental office before, so I'm a little bit versed in dental issues, and Dr. Palsis was super kind, patient, and detailed in his exam and I so appreciated it. It was an incredibly comfortable visit, and I almost can't wait to come back--not a feeling I usually encounter with a dental office! I had basically no work to do on my end as far as getting my insurance set up with them--just show up, give my info, and it was taken care of. Dr. Palsis actually took the time at my point to not only discuss what future treatments I might look into, but he even got quotes together based on my insurance, which I've never had a dentist do for me in my adult life--maybe that's a normal thing? It felt above and beyond, that they would take the time to price out theoretical work that's not even scheduled at the moment. I can't say enough good things about this office. Everyone was so friendly, and so knowledgeable and competent in their work--such a great experience. If you have the least hesitation about dentists, please do give this office a try! read more

I am one of those weird people who love getting my teeth cleaned. I mean, I LOVE it. So take this review however you like with that in mind. Downtown Dental is a great practice. I have been going here for several years and have had numerous checkups/cleanings and even a chipped tooth experience. I've encountered three of their dentists over the years, and they've each been charming and knowledgeable. If teeth had little hearts of their own, I'd tell you that the hygienist I had for my very first cleaning visit stole them all in one visit. I like my teeth to feel like they'd literally catch the sun and sparkle like a commercial after I walk out of there, and she never misses a beat. Smoothest mouth ever. No missed spots. No awkward pokes. For this reason, I have always continued to requested her, although I have absolutely no doubt that each of the others are just as fantastic. I just found my 'person', and I am sticking with her. As far as billing and insurance are concerned, this group is very fair and covered by numerous plans. I've switched several times myself, so I am always pleasantly surprised to hear, "Yes, that plan is also covered!" each time. Add one more satisfied and happy mouth to the list... Thanks! read more

I just came home from my dentist appointment with Dr. Patel and I HAD to write a review. I admit although I use the advice from Yelp I hardly ever write my reviews. In a case like this I believe me voice should be heard. Dr. Patel is AMAZING. I left the office and raved on the phone to my mom (who is also looking for a new dentist). Today was my first day in the office and it was great. I have quite a few things that need to be taken care of because of my lack of attention to my teeth, but non-the-less Dr Patel is working his magic already. I came into the office with many cavities, after my X-Rays Dr. Patel pulled up a chair and discussed the costs and the way we should proceed with things, something I am appreciate very much. After he talked to me he allowed me to phone home and discuss with my mom (my insurance provider) what steps to take. After I had finished we agreed on a solution and started with our work. We picked a tooth that we wanted to fill and the whole procedure was fun and pain-free, something everyone appreciates. We took pictures throughout the treatment and he showed me what he was doing and explained the steps as he was doing his work. With an interest in dentistry he was sooo helpful with his advice and interactive visit. I can't help but say good things about his staff and his work, he is a perfectionist. You wont be disappointed. Out of the 400 dentists (off-hand) that he is surrounded by he is the one to choose. THIS IS A NO-BRAINER ---- Choose Downtown Dental. read more

I love Downtown Dental. Love! I joined Yelp just to write a glowing review on them. I was about as dentist-phobic as they come, and only after one of my teeth chipped did I force myself to go. I chose Downtown Dental purely based on Yelp reviews, and was not disappointed. Dr. Funderburk put me at ease immediately after I sat in the chair. She's friendly, doesn't give you a lecture, and is extremely reassuring. I was in and out after 40 minutes or so for my cleaning - and like other reviewers have noted, there is significantly less of the unpleasant scraping that I've experienced before. I was surprised at how easy it was. Unfortunately, I needed a root canal, so I made an appointment with Dr. Davenport for the next day. That experience was surprisingly fine as well - he was extremely patient, and at any point where he noticed me squirming even a little, he would quickly numb me up even more. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no hurry to have another root canal, but on a pain scale from 1-10, I would give it a 2! My "fun" continued and I needed a crown lengthening - so I made an appointment with Dr. Kim. I was a little nervous about it after reading what it entailed, but for the third time, I got a very patient, kind and extremely competent doctor. She even gives you her cell phone number in case you have problems! When I did, a couple of days later, I called her and she called me back within an hour, and saw me the next morning with no appointment - I waited maybe 5 minutes! She was fantastic. Overall, I can't see myself ever going anywhere else - I'm pretty sure I've seen half the staff now and they are all phenomenal! I will definitely be in twice a year. Highly recommended! read more
