I have been going to Downtown Dental for about 3 years and am very happy with the level of care and service they provide. The convenient downtown location is great for those of us who work in the loop. And they always seem to run on time, making it easy/stress-free for me to make an appointment during my lunch hour. My hygienist Barbara is wonderful. From her (and the other conversations I can hear during my visits), the hygienists make a point of remembering details about you (I presume they take notes after each visit and refer to them before your appointment which is a simple, but thoughtful personal touch and attention to detail). As an added benefit, the views while you're getting your teeth cleaned can't be beat! Granted, I am fortunate to not have needed to have anything done other than cleanings from them, but based on my semi-annual cleanings, I have been very pleased with and highly recommend Downtown Dental. read more

Best dentist EVER. I actually moved out of state and literally fly into Chicago to see them at Downtown dental. It is worth it to pay $200 more (my airline ticket) for the quality and care they have. They get you in on time, perform the services, are up front - in writing with prices; are honest about what needs to be done now and what can wait or what is optional to do; they do NOT try to upsell you or sell you everything from toothbrushes to mouth rinse on the way out (like many dentists I have been to); they do not take a routine cleaning as an excuse to sell you cosmetic stuff like whitening, veneers, ortho work (unlike some dentists). They are honest and stand behind their work. I have found them to be accommodating and will hopefully see them for years to come, even though I am hundreds of miles away. read more

I started going to Downtown Dental about a year ago because I work in the loop and it's conveniently situated right in the loop as well so I could stop by right before work or right after. Also, my boyfriend now fiance highly recommended it and now I know why. I never have to wait more than 5-10mins which is rare nowadays. Also, Dr. Palsis is very knowledgeable and takes the time to discuss your problems and most importantly he fixes them really well. I've had a couple of cleanings done there. Today I had one with Meghan and she was exceptional, very thorough, by far the best cleaning I've had ever. If you need a dentist, look no further, this place is da best! read more

I haven't been to the dentist since moving to Chicago nearly four years ago (for various reasons). Having had a lot of work in the past and had a dentist I could trust back home made it more difficult to start new again, but I'm sure glad I did a little bit of research and picked this place though as everything couldn't have gone smoother. I've never been to a more efficient practice. I got in the day after I called to make an appointment as a new patient. Received my cleaning, full exam / xrays, fixed a couple cavities AND did a root canal all in one day. Went back for another appointment where they fixed the rest of my cavities and did the crown (They have a machine that makes them in house!) all in another session. Everyone that worked on me did an awesome job and made me feel at ease; let me know exactly what I needed and carefully laid out insurance coverages and costs. Nobody actually enjoys going to the dentist, but I can't imagine going anywhere else from now on. Painless experience figuratively and literally. read more

I'm a type 1 diabetic, which is a PITA in a number of minor ways when it comes to health-related things. The last dentist I went to was in Evanston, and nice enough, but clueless on the issues involved which totally turned me off. I don't expect your average person on the street to know all about it, but a medical professional should have at least a general idea! So anyway, since then I've been putting off dental visits- for about a year and a half. I finally decided to try Dr. Patel after seeing the reviews on here, and I am so glad I did! I don't like people messing with my mouth at all, so of course I'm not going to say it was the most fun I've ever had. But it was the least discomfort I've had at a dentist, and everyone was friendly and relaxed. My hygienist was Monica and she was great- very nice and made sure to tell me what I was doing right and what I needed to do better at. She also noticed right away that I wear an insulin pump, and I was so impressed that she knew what it was without having to ask. And Dr. Patel was terrific too- very pleasant and knowledgable, and told me how things looked without trying to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need. I am very happy with my visit, and will definitely continue on with Dr. Patel. read more

I am so glad that I found these guys, as Dr Eric Schoneing and honestly pretty much every hygienist and staff member have been exceptional. When a previous dentist suggested I have a invasive procedure (as a person with a extremely healthy dental history), Downtown Dental provided me with additional X rays that I should have received to arrive at that prior diagnosis. After 5 years, I can finally eat a meal without having to get up 3 times to unclog a gap between my molar and an implant. Dr. Eric Schoening at Downtown Dental did the work for me in no more than half an hour and explained everything to me before and as we were going through the procedure. So I have never been a fan of going to the dentist. The drilling, the scraping, etc., but I was having a massive tooth ache, so I had no choice. I found Downtown Dental on Yelp and the reviews were pretty good, so I called them. They took me same-day and I was thoroughly impressed by this office. Dr Athena Tosiou saw me, did some x-rays and said this is what we need to do, here is a long term plan, but in the short term, you need a root canal and we can do it in 2 days. Kind, professional and supportive. Everything you want in a dentist. I came back two days later to see Dr. Jill Young who would perform my root canal. Dr. Young could not have been more pleasant. She took more x-rays and made sure the right tooth was identified and we started the root canal. The only pain I felt was the pinch of the shot to numb me. Every step of the way, Dr. Young kept me informed and told me what to expect it before it happened. Thirty minutes later I was done. Both Dr. Tosiou and Dr. Young put me at ease and were great to work with. This office changed my view of going to the dentist. While I hope I don't have to see them all the time, when I do, I know I'll be in great hands! read more

I highly recommend Downtown Dental! This office was recommended to me by a friend and I drove all the way from Naperville to go here -- it was worth it!! I had an issue with a baby tooth and was thinking I needed the tooth removed, a bone graft, and an implant to fix my situation. This was based on my dentist in the suburb. It was going to be very expensive and take approximately 10 months before I'd have a permanent implant. Ugh! I was told this was my only option. I wanted another opinion and hopefully another option. I visited Downtown Dental and immediately knew they had better tools (Cat scan x-ray and CEREC). Also the dentist Dr. Patel met with me and personally explained in detail all of my options. In the end, I was able to get a specialized CEREC cap put on my tooth and my problem is solved. I was so happy! First this was a WAY cheaper option, second NO SURGERY was needed (so no time off work), and third I got the cap put on the same day. I repeat the SAME day! No waiting for it to be sent off to some lab. They were able to create my cap/tooth right there in the office. I also wanted to note that Dr. Pettijohn the CEREC specialist who performed the procedure was amazing. He explained every step of the process and answered my many questions patiently to ensure I was comfortable along the way. I had more than 10 years of orthodontial treatment as a youth and need dental professionals who are knowledgeable, gentle, use current technology, and are aware of current research and treatment options. I will say that Downtown Dental is high-tech and the patient care is good IF they will actually see you. The doctors there are great! However, when I had a minor snafu in my insurance coverage, they would not see me unless I paid out of pocket, which of course, is not financially possible. This was despite the fact that I was in excruciating pain and could verify the problem was being rectified. My new dentist, saw me right away and took care of my insurance issues. I recently went back to DD for a cleaning and had a cavity drilled and filled. The cleaning went well, per usual - on time, fast, and the hygenist had a light touch. I can get near panick-stricken when it comes to having teeth fixed, but Dr. Tosiou did a great job. This was the first time I met her, so I was a bit nervous. But she worked quickly and I think it was the least traumatic drilling experience I have ever had. I trusted their judgment that the cavity needed fixing because it was a spot that they were "watching" for awhile. And, in the past I had a billing dispute with my insurance co, and DD was very helpful and took off a portion of the bill. read more

I went to a dentist in the loop and they were going to charge me an arm, leg and my first born child. They didn't accept my dental plan. I went on the Internet and started looking again. I called another place and they were rude over the phone so I looked again and read that Dr. Patel went to the University of Pittsburgh.. My home town. Once I got there Dr Patel introduced me to one of the best dental hygienist in the field. Monica (I love calling her by every name but Monica). Monica and Dr. Patel worked with me for over a year to rid me of my periodontal disease. Dr Patel's practice as really grown. I had the best experience with Downtown dental. I have had extensive dental work done in the past both in Chicago and in Michigan and I have never left the office feeling happy. I had a root canal and a crown all in one session and i left feeling relieved! I was extremely nervous upon arriving. The staff were very friendly and reassuring. Dr. Young did my root canal. She was extremely confident and knowledgeable and it just made me feel so relaxed about the whole thing. She made sure i was comfortable and informed the entire time. Dr. Pettijohn then performed a permanent crown in what I felt like was record time. It was completely pain free which is unheard of! No nasty impressions or annoying temporary. I even got to watch him adjust my crown on the computer to ensure the perfect fit. I left in no pain and woke up the next day with no pain! Both doctors have even checked in to see how I was doing. I am so impressed by this office and how they conduct business. I will definitely be back if I need any more work done! read more

i've never written a yelp review, but i decided to contribute since yelp helped me to find this dentist. i was pretty skeptical about their high rating, but it was accurate. they were clear about insurance matters and very friendly. i haven't visited a dentist in over 3 yrs., and was expecting the worst, but the dentist didn't pressure me into any procedures and even showed me the inside of my mouth with a little camera and used a model to explain the state of my teeth. plus, they were timely. I love Downtown Dental! My old dental office was so old school. I walked into Downtown Dental a couple weeks ago and I was stunned. It's very updated and we'll kept. I have no complaints what's so ever. I really like my old dental office, but they need some fixer uppers and update their equipment, the old way of taking x rays kinda hurts and time consuming. I called to ask a few questions about their office. I spoke to Lin, very professional nice receptionist. She answered all my questions patiently, she even asked me a few helpful questions back! I was being a little bit of a pain. I didn't schedule then and there, I was kind of embarrassed to leave my other office. I didn't know how I was going to break it down to my old dentist, he's such a good man. I thought about it and Lin was right, change is good, a second opinion is worth it. So I called Downtown Dental once again, asked for Lin, she knew exactly who I was, that's always a good sign. Call me crazy, but it felt like I was talking to one of my long time friends. Scheduled my appointment, had my cleaning by a very nice hygienist, i am very happy with my decision.
