I really can't recommend Dr. Petrova and her staff enough! I've always been super anxious about going to the dentist, but Dr. Petrova has always made me feel so comfortable and at ease. She's been my dentist for a few years now and has done everything from cleanings and fillings to teeth whitening for me. I really trust her expertise wholeheartedly, and she's made such a difference in the health of my teeth and the brightness of my smile. It's not easy to find a great dentist who is professional, friendly, caring, and someone you can truly trust, so I'm so glad I found Dr. Petrova. I went to Downtown Dentists after reading and considering reviews and deciding to give them a try. There was much uncertainty due to generally average, sketchy or just terrible experiences over the last 20 years in SF. I have been left with very limited choices with my DMO plan through the company I work for and the primary covered dentists have been most unreliable as I have has to deal with all the above mentioned experiences. I now wear dentures and to get a broken lower piece repaired Gentle Dental required new x-rays, fittings to make a "new" denture and would not simply repair the lower one! I had had enough and took a chance with Downtown Dental. The downtown facility most inviting and professional with an excellent staff. I was given a thorough exam and the possible options and total cost was explained to me without any extra "needed" procedures or nonsense. Dr Petrova was one of the most professional and knowledgeable dentists I had dealt with in years. When I told her my situation and found out that my DMO would not cover expenses Dr Petrova allowed for discounts to defray some of the costs. I decided to go ahead and have a new lower denture made because the existing one was too flimsy which is the reason it broke so easily. They had offered to repair the broken one at a price that surprised me, so I had that done as well. The overall costs were not very much over what I would have spent with the DMO coverage at Gentle Dental and there were no hidden charges, suspicious procedures or other nonsense. Very unethical business. Be careful if you are black, do not go here. They are very discriminatory towards a certain crowd and they like to CATER to a specific crowd. As you can see from all the reviews, there is no diversity in the clientele for a reason. (Same basic bs) The rude receptionist assumed that I had "medi-cal" because well you know why and tried to tell me they can't take me because they don't take medi-cal or medicaid and they don't have any appointments for medi-caid ; when I had private insurance the whole time. I should've left from that moment but whatever. The lady held me up from my appointment just to verify IF I had insurance and then the dentist told me we ran out of time because we started late because of the front desk. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! That job is supposed to be done before the patient gets to the appointment because now it's eating into my appointment time. If I go to an appointment that is my time slot. If a practice is the ones who holds me up then that's their problem but you as the paying customer should not be worked on for 15 minutes out of the hour you are there. They just didn't want me there because they rushed through my service to make sure to get to this other guy ( who they cater to) fast and early for his appointment. The dentist penny pinch for everything. They charge over $150 per filling. A cleaning was $200 and it was very sloppy like they rushed me out of the office. They don't even give you a bag with toothbrush or anything. Very cheap. won't talk about my visit entirely with these ppl because I have a lawyer dealing with the situation but please beware. I'm tired of this mess and this Type of treatment from public workers. read more

I was referred to Dr. Petrova by my dentist in Palo Alto because I had a problem that my own dentist could not fix. My dentist told me, "She [Dr. Petrova] is my dentist." So what could be better than going to my dentist's dentist? My dentist emailed the info about my problem to Downtown Dentist SF and I called the same day. They were able to see me within a little more than an hour. It was easy to get downtown and have my situation taken care of in short order. I found Dr. Petrova to be friendly, welcoming, and, above all, more than competent to take care of what I needed. I was in and out of there in a very reasonable amount of time. Not only that, but pain-free, which is huge for me because even though I am 74 years old, once I get into a dentist's chair, I am a big baby. As of now, I am going to stay with my original dentist in Palo Alto. But if I ever need to change dentists, I would be more than satisfied to say that this is the office where I would go. I've been a client for 2 years now, and it's always a pleasure to come into the office and see Dr. Stefka, Amber, Michael, and Pamela! They genuinely care about you as a person, beyond the health of your pearly whites. It's a lovely team in an office that has a lovely view of the city, too. Since the COVID pandemic made a landing in San Francisco, Dr. Stefka has implemented hygiene measures that have made me feel safe to come into the office - beyond the mask mandate, there is ample hand sanitizer, sanitized ballpoint pens, ventilation, and great care to prevent aerosols during a hygiene visit. I'm can't know how long the pandemic will affect our daily lives in a significant way, but I can know that Dr. Stefka and her team will go the distance to provide great care to their clients. P.S.
