This review is way overdue. Every time I look in the mirror, I'm so happy with my teeth, so I thought it's about time I write this well deserved excellent review!! I can't say enough wonderful and complimentary things about OrthoWorks!! Dr. Shen is the man!! And all the staff at OrthoWorks are so nice, friendly, and helpful. Shout out to May, Patient Advisor; and Row, Clinical Supervisor, both whom I interacted most during my appointments. I went in to have a gap closed, where I had missing canine tooth (first picture). With Dr. Shen's expertise, the gap closed within about 2 yrs wearing braces. The final result - no more gap; and most importantly looks like I have a full set of upper teeth. Looking at my own smile, even I can't tell my canine tooth is missing!! Even my dental hygienist couldn't believe what a great job Dr. Shen did. She said, "it's short of a miracle that your optometrist closed that gap and teeth alignment is perfect!" Needless to say, my Dentist and her staff are equally as impressed as I am with the excellent work done by OrthoWorks. The doctor Shen was extremely rude and irresponsible. Regardless of whether your teeth were suitable for orthodontic treatment, he only cared about selling. I waited six months after making the payment to receive my aligners. To reduce workload, the doctor continued using some of my original attachments but repeatedly shirked the responsibility of removing them. Worse still, even after I directly scheduled an appointment, I arrived on the day of the visit only to find that there was no record of my appointment at all. read more

Because of their great yelp reviews, I had an initial phone consultation with a doctor from Orthoworks who seemed very good. I had a follow up in person appointment during which they scanned/imaged my teeth. At that appointment, I spoke with a different doctor who had no knowledge of what the previous doctor and I had talked about. Shortly after the appointment, I received an email with a very high estimate of the Invisalign costs with payment plan options but no explanation of what the service included. I also received a phone call asking me whether or not I was going to move forward. In the past, at another practice, I had received an interactive simulation where I could see the plan as well as phases and my tooth movement. I asked them why they had not shared that with me. A couple days later I received an email with a link, but when I went to the simulation, it only showed two scenarios, my existing tooth placement and the ultimate result - no phases, no movement, etc. I emailed the practice again asking about this. I did not receive a reply but a few days later I got another link to another simulation which I suspect would've been more of what I was looking for, however I could not access it. I had a permanent retainer rebonded at orthoworks about 6 months ago. The retainer became loose again so I called to ask about the warranty for their work. I was told the warranty is only for 60 days and I would have to pay $250 again to have the retainer rebonded. I have never encountered a orthodontist with such a limited warranty. I called another orthodontist in San Francisco with a much better policy and will have it fixed there. I Would not recommend this office to anyone looking to have their retained rebonded. read more

I'm with OrthoWorks for my Invisalign treatment! I've had my aligners for a year and a half. There are multiple OrthoWorks locations all over the peninsula and the employees travel around these various locations. So certain locations may be closed on specific days because their staff will be at another office. I find that this can be both a pro and a con. Pro: traveling around is flexible, I've moved twice and I was always able to just visit the office nearest to me. The staff sends my aligners and dental details to the other office. Con: some offices are closed on certain days so I had to work around their schedule to book appointments on open days. I've been to the SF Battery St, SF Geart Blvd, and San Bruno locations. All the staff in all the locations are really friendly. When I was first discussing the treatment and working out the price, the front desk was really transparent and communicative. Staff members will remember me even when I run into them at other locations. During COVID OrthoWorks is still operating (with some restrictions). They're taking a lot of precautions to sanitize and really value health safety. read more

I came to San Francisco on vacation from Vermont. First night here, my daughter's braces broke. There was something poking into her tongue and she was very uncomfortable. My friend recommended that I call OrthoWorks. How often do you call an orthodontist's office and speak to the owner of the practice? Dr Shen was so compassionate and kind and told me I could bring my daughter in to their office first thing in the morning. We came to the office today and they fixed her braces immediately. I came in a couple of months back to get a free scan for Invisalign and I got to say that the way that the place is presented and the way the staff treats their clients/patients is beyond perfect. I felt so welcomed the first time and I continue to feel welcomed every time I step into the office. The office is always bright and clean and well organized while the staff is very kind and informative. Thank you orthoworks for taking me in the last minute. Protocol prior to coming in: I recommend checking your text message because the office will send out a pre-covid questionnaire. This took less than 2 minutes to fill out and submit. Temperature check at the front desk as well. The orthodontist what saw me today was Dr. Shen. He said my teeth were looking a lot straighter so that's good news, because they look a lot better! And I've been complimented on my smile so that's always a confidence boost! Dr. Shen thank you for listening to my concerns. I feel confident going out of state for a few months. I've seen some major progress with my overbite and crowding. Looking forward to the end result! I love my Invisalign treatment, such a easy way to straighten my teeth while still busy with work etc. During my appointment, I felt like my concerns are met in a timely manner. The wait time was very low and was seated right away. Mask are still required in the office and all patients and doctors wore proper PPE and face shields. Drs Tomer, Shen & Lam are the greatest! I saw Shen & Lam exclusively when I had my braces. They have mulitple offices and very flexible hours. My niece sees Dr. Shen around 7:00 AM right before school. Staff is friendly and service is excellent. Also, their prices are reasonable. I've seen other orthodontists ask for more. read more

I had an awesome experience with Orthoworks and I'd highly recommend them even if you're not fond of dentists/orthos. I had a ton of cavities as a child so going to see a dental professional always stresses me out and I really dislike going to the dentist. Me = screaming girl at the dentist in Finding Nemo But Kent, the patient advocate, was extremely accommodating, thorough, and just really nice in general and helped me set up an appointment and come in for Invisalign. The doctor and staff are very friendly too, and the entire experience was smooth and painless. It kind of made me feel like I was at an optometrist's office rather than a dental one. My favorite part of Orthoworks though was the doctor. He's got really great bedside manners and he made me feel like his advice was based on what I actually need vs what would be good for his business. I really trust him and want to come back to get some work done. :) So if you've ever wanted to see an orthodontist but the process seemed like a pain in the booty or you just found it daunting, I'd give this place a try! read more

I'd like to give an update - my experience with the team at Orthoworks has been and continues to be second to none. The dentists are the gentlest, kindest, and most sincere I've ever worked with. Erin, specifically, is a true gem -- I enjoyed her service so much that we ended up talking for about twenty minutes past my appointment about life. I always feel totally taken care of when I go for my appointments - they're clearly very thoughtful about whom they hire and when it comes to one's teeth, a dental professional with a gentle bedside manner is priceless. Just left the Orthoworks office over on Battery Street, San Francisco. A bit hesitant to go as I already have an existing orthodontist and was planning to get Orthognathic (jaw) surgery to fix an underlying facial structural issue. I was recommended to get a second opinion before making such an important decision such as surgery; and was told they have the latest oral technology without needing surgery. My initial thought was that they were interested in selling me a brace product such as Invisalign. I was in for a surprise as the consultation was anything but that! It was one of the best consultations I've experience from beginning to end, full service from the reception team to the doctor. Before even opening my mouth for examination and just by asking a series of health questions such as my breathing, food intake, sleep conditions; she was able to determine what I have known from my previous orthodontist and surgeon what I needed to fix. We talk extensively about my health first and foremost before even considering working on the cosmetics issue. I went in knowing about a few problems I had ahead of time, and walk out with a whole insight on areas I can where I can get help. I got the second opinion I needed, and felt confident in making the next move to fix my oral health issues. The best part was that the in depth consultation from, the 3-D image rendering of my entire mouth, (yay no more pink mold!) and extensive talk with the doctor didn't cost me a thing. I was about to pull out my Health Savings Account credit card to make a payment for the visit but the doctor said it was of no cost. They were just glad to give me information along with guidance and did not mind if I went with another orthodontist office for the work I need. I'm confident I'm in good hands with Orthoworks and will probably have a second visit real soon. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about orthoworks - I was looking to get Invisalign and a year ago I went into the Invisalign store and was referred to this location to get them. I ended up not getting them but ended up staying in communication for a year until I was actually able to get them. It takes a lot for me to post a negative review but with such a large investment I needed to share my poor experience in hopes that they improve. I had a consult in November 2018 for Invisalign. I followed up 3x from then until now and was consistently advised someone would contact me. It is 4/1/19 and I've left yet another message asking for a call back. In November they advised it would take 8-10 weeks for an insurance quote for Invisalign, I contacted the insurance company after 1 week to request to expedite and they stated it was already done. When I followed up with OrthoWorks they said 8-10 weeks again, I asked if they received the information from my insurance carrier and they stated they didn't know but would check and return my call by end of day....that was in December. I maxed out my FSA so I will follow through with Invisalign but I wasted all that time having the consultation done only to have to do it with another provider that will provide a better patient experience. read more

I was referred to Orthoworks by a friend. I love it here. They have been nothing but accommodating for my family. The ladies at the front are friendly and helpful. When we initially set up our account, I asked if we could have a separate contract drawn up just for the other parent. I had my braces done at Orthoworks and returned back to see if I could get my broken retainer fixed. I feel a bit cheated after finding out I overpaid a lot for a single upper retainer which I was charged $500 for. I was also told it would cost around $1,000 for a set. During my appointment I did inquire regarding pricing between the standard wire type and Invisalign and wasn't given a direct answer on price until after I already decided on the wire type. I understand every situation can vary but as a lower income person I'm looking for value for money. Thinking back I probably should have considered alternative options before rushing into it. read more

The patient advisors, May and Kent, were quick to set me up for an appointment and informed me all the details about possible treatment plans.
