It is its first year this year so not very well known yet but I'm sure a welcomed addition to the community! A short walk away from Olympic Village along the seawall and really easy to access via transit. There is pay parking at the Concord building lot (West Park) right next to it, or street parking on Pacific Blvd. It is not very well known yet so it wasn't quite busy when I went on a sunny Thursday afternoon during the heatwave! The location is great with some amenities nearby but could use some more shade. There are some picnic tables scattered throughout. Not a lot of cooked food vendors, mostly produce and artisanal products like honey and vegan cheese and dips etc.

finally checked this off the list, i've been meaning to make it out to the west end farmer's market…read morefor awhile now, and i'm so glad i did. note: it runs until october 25th, so there's still only a few more saturdays to soak it all in. the market runs saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm, from may 3rd to october 25th, at 1100 comox street. it's a lovely neighbourhood spot, lined with trees decorated with cute little bird houses, tall sunflowers nodding in the breeze, and a nearby community garden that adds so much character. there's a nice mix of vendors, pottery, hazelnuts grown in the fraser valley, certified organic farms, honey, eggs, and fresh flowers. picked up a couple of stocking stuffers from the bowen island herb salts stand. there was even live music, giving everything a relaxed, friendly, local community feel. shop local, bring your eco friendly reusable shopping bags, and take your time wandering through. it's one of those markets that feels both cozy and full of little surprises. fair warning though, between the flowers, the snacks, and all the cute handmade goodies, it's way too easy to slip into "treat yourself" mode and walk away with a bag full of finds you didn't know you needed.

Growing organically helps to protect biodiversity by encouraging growth of lesser known varieties, which can often be more delicious if only for their rarity! ie. tomatoes - heirloom anyone!? They travel less distance in a guzzling truck, keeps our local economy alive, and encourages use of the province's land for farming. So it tastes better.

And yes, there's a plethora of other amazing local options: fruits, veggies, beautiful Little Qualicum Cheeseworks samples and goods, jams, breads, food carts, meats -- oh my! I love this particular farmers market more than any other in the city, not only because it's s'damn convenient, but it (out of all of 'em) feels the most urban. It's not trying to be a tra-la-la oasis in the city; rather, is straight-up located in the hub of a busy commuter zone in the middle of the workweek. Genius. There's something so very special about this one. It could be that I run into someone I know each time I go, but everything just tastes a little bit better when I buy it from here. Living in Kits now, it's always fun to stroll up to Kits Farmer's Market. The line up moves…read morerelatively fast (15 minutes or less) and they've sorted out the directions you can go. They have cheese vendors, produce, eggs, meat, coffee, mushroom vendors, garlic vendors, bread, everything you need for cooking a slammin' local meal! A little disappointing that there aren't many jewelry, soap, or art vendors as I always like looking at these as well. Perhaps its because the footprint of this market is a bit small. Today I loaded up on some fresh garlic, sausages from Stapleton (my fave!), and buffalo feta cheese. I enjoy that there's a rotation of local food vendors though, as I've seen different ones there which makes it exciting to check out every once in a while so you'll get to support other local vendors too!

The organizer has put on a very organized event this year as we are all dealing with Covid-19! Traffic is controlled with volunteers & staffs direct visitors throughout the market, sanitizers are available at the entrance and also clear signs showing where the washrooms are, all the vendors are well spaced from each other and lots of walkways for visitors! Parkings are available on streets, remember to make sure you check the street signs so as not to get ticketed!

It was really nice to see the variety as a lot I haven't seen a lot of the vendors around at other local farmers market before. For the food vendors there were plenty of sampling available too! It's so nice to see more of these outdoors market out now for the public. More reason to go out to enjoy the sun and discover some good new finds and treats! My original plan for the day was to checkout the Shipyards in North Van., until I saw a post on instagram for the market. So glad I went. The setup was very similar to many of the markets in the Lower Mainland with many of the usual vendors like A Bread Affair, Gingeraki, and Mukasi Coffee; all very good vendors. I even bought a cold brew ($4) from Mukasi. The only vendor that was new to me were the people selling Tamales, wish I took a pic. They had a huge line and it looked as though people were really into the fresh juice they sell. Tough to really "grade" farmers markets since the vendors tend to change every week. I'm giving it 5 stars because I just love farmers markets and there were enough vendors to make the drive to UBC worth it. It's also a very good alternative to the Trout Lake market which is awesome as well, but finding parking there is a chore. Assuming it's nice next week, I'll probably be back.
