Bait and Switch Warning! I went here by recommendation of a friend. I called in advance for a quote on, Flowmaster brand mufflers. They quoted and said, we have them come down. when I get there, the installer was putting my car on the rack, and I believe it was the owner that yelled over to him, "KNOCK IT OFF". Weird?!?! So come to find out when he's got my mufflers to install he did not have Flowmaster. He had "knock off" mufflers! In the industry, it is known to call the generic Flowmasters, "knock offs". This was the owners cute little way of trying to be sly and telling his installer to give me the cheap stuff "KNOCK IT OFF" (I.e., knockoffs). I told my friend that recommended me and I don't want to say his name, but this is greatly disappointing. He was embarrassed. This place is really shady. I hope people read this and take heed to the warning. This place is not honest. I would not trust them or recommend them. read more

Sam and the crew at Downtown Muffler are very fair and honest. I have always taken my trucks to them because of the service. Last week my mechanic told me we needed a new cat converter for the glass truck, I booked an appointment with Sam and dropped it off. She calls me later to tell me there is nothing wrong with the cats or mufflers, but sensors are needed by a mechanic. They could of easily installed and charged me for a new cat converter and mufflers. Good Honest People! read more

They've been working on my family's and friend's car from various jobs that includes replacing and/or troubleshooting catalytic converter, mufflers. They did a great job on all the cars with care and a reasonable price. Recently, I went in for a noise from heat shield rattling next to the catalytic converter for my 1997 Civic. I believe his name was Scott or Jack. Not sure. Anyhow, he removed the heat shield at no charge. All these years, still great customer service. Not many businesses offer such services of any kind. I absolutely treasure these guys. I have been bringing my vehicles to Downtown Muffler Service since I started driving about 23 years ago. They have done everything from putting a new muffler or catalytic converter on my vehicles, to full blown exhaust systems from the headers back. They do absolutely amazing work. Recently my fiance and I took our 2009 Chevy Silverado in to have them take a look at it and recommend what we could do about the current system being too loud on the truck. The previous owner had lifted the truck and put a very loud "look at me" short dual exhaust on the truck. It sounded horrible climbing hills. The gents at Downtown Muffler identified my issue, made an excellent recommendation and got to work putting the new exhaust tube, muffler and tip on the truck. Not only does the truck now sound reasonable, but it still has a gritty big V8 purr and doesn't scream uphill any longer. The most unexpected bonus though? The engine/transmission response is now almost instant. We found out that 2-1/4 short tube and the other muffler where actually choking my engine. The new 3" long tube and packed muffler allowed the valves to rid themselves of exhaust gases and breathe much easier. I always have a great experience here. Believe that they will go over your concerns, listen to you, explain things in a manner which can be comprehended and then do their best for you and your vehicle. Bought a used axle-back exhaust online and it might be bend. Called them up to have it adjusted. They couldn't get an estimate over the phone which is understandable as they need to see it. Drove all the way from Fremont and got there around 8:30 AM. 30 minutes later and $45 dollar and they cut, weld and adjusted the way it should be. Straight forward and great quality service. I can't thank Jack enough for the great work he did on the exhaust of my 97 e36 BMW. I went to him with an open mind and asked for his recommendation on what should be done to the exhaust. He advised that we delete the muffler and replace it with a Y-pipe and tips for a louder sound. I asked about resonators, but he suggested that we start with the pure sound first; I could always add a resonator if I didn't like something. Jack finished the work within an hour on the day of the appointment. As a special touch, he installed the tips to curve with the contour of the rear bumper, something he did on his own because of his attention to detail. His price was better than the competition and I know he didn't use parts from another car (like a few other shops in the area). He also helped me trash the old 40-plus lb muffler. This simple mod has changed the entire experience of driving my e36 BMW. I will likely have him add a resonator at some point in the future, but for now, I'm enjoying the deep sound of the throttle on startup (my neighbors, not so much)! read more

Didn't get services here, this rating is for the following reason - Called the shop on Friday and was told they're open Saturday at 9am. Got there on Sat at 9.30am and found out that the sign says open, but the doors were close and no one answered the phone. Decided to go down the road to Mission mufflers. My Whip Old Blue and I had been a Victim Of Crime . A week ago 3 Hispanic males in a 2000 or Newer Charcoal Grey Honda Civic around 5 am . Had parked behind old Blue and stole her OEM Toyota Catyalic Converter in a manner of moments. I found out later when I went to drive Old Blue and she sounded like a Top Fuel Dragster. I called the Toyota Dealer and a OEM replacement part was $1200 . I reported the Theft to SLPD they came out and took a Police Report and Dusted Old Blue for Prints. I asked my Neighbors if they saw anything and amazingly one had witness the Whole occurrence. I asked why they didn't call the Cops and they said they were afraid. I called Downtown Muffler Service and talked to Jesse . He had done work on my Vette before so I know he does Top Notch Work . He told me to come by and he would fix Old Blue Up . So I made an appointment for the next morning. I went to Downtown Muffler the next morning and talked to Jesse he explained the fix and that he would use a California Certified Magnaflow Catalytic Converter and Weld it in to repair the Damage done by the Thieves . He had his Lead Technician Chris Install it . I looked at the Fix . Very Nice Welding the Beads looked perfect . Very secure. I paid the bill and got a Warranty Card for the New Converter and a Receipt. Chris had me In and Out in less than an hour. Great Guys . Downtown Mufflers Service is Top Notch .
