Went for a first exam with Dr. Chun. Very comprehensive and thoughtful check up. Happy to trust Dr. Chun with my eyes.

TLDR; swapped my lenses out of my old frames into new ones I brought in! A+ great service, friendly staff! Thank you! So a few years back I went to a celebrity stylist in SF and he told me which frames to buy and it was amazing, my face is really odd shaped and I kept those frames for years. Finally I got lenses with updated prescription made at lenscrafters and put into my existing frame, which snapped right in half about a month after that. I refuse to buy a different style so I found the same frames online and added myself to a waitlist. 2 months later they come in the mail. So I give eyewear emporium a call to see if they can break my new prescription lenses out of my broken frames and put them in my new exact-same frames. Man on the phone said no problem. I went down and he popped the fake lenses right out and heated up my glasses and fit the new ones in! Right on the spot- not even 5 minutes! He even put some alcohol to clean up the tape residue that I had on my lenses. He thoroughly checked them and told me there were a few spots that wouldn't come off, but I wasn't too concerned, probably glue or tape or something weird my cat did. He even adjusted the arms for my weird shaped head lol (my words not his). He advised me to keep my old broken frames for parts - great idea, I never would've thought about that! Anyways, no charge! I believe it was Jonathan that I saw, he was super chill, very nice. They have these cool frames that have magnetic sunglass attachments and they don't even look lame at all - good to know since I've been wanting prescription sunglasses. I tripped downtown on my way to meeting and broke my glasses. I walked in handed my glasses over and they took them fixed them and they me on my way in less than 20 minutes. They didn't price gouge me and were extremely friendly. If I lived or worked regularly downtown they would be my go to place. I recommend them highly. read more

I am posting for my husband, who never writes reviews. Dr. Chun and Mia are awesome. He originally ordered a pair while we were in New York, but came back before our optometrist in New York had a chance to correct the prescription and fit. (note: we have VSP insurance that allows for one change) Dr. Chun re-measured and it was perfect. My husband went a second time to get new lenses in his Rx sunglasses. Once again, Dr. Chun fit him perfectly, this time it was one and done. We are both hard to fit because of our need for progressive lenses and other minor needs. I work in the building that Dr. Chun is located in (Pacific Guardian Center) and on two occasions I have stopped into his office hoping that he would be able to adjust my glasses to fit better. Even though I did not purchase glasses from Dr. Chun he was willing to adjust my glasses at not cost. Dr. Chun is very easy going, approachable, and most gracious to be willing to assist someone who is not a paying patient/customer of his. This review is for their excellent service. My dad dropped his sunglass and the lense popped out but it wasnt abke to pop it back in. so I stop by this place to get it repaired. I have been wearing glasses for nearly twenty years. Went here after moving from another city for an eye exam that I was very behind on and to get some new glasses made. Dr. Chun gave me what was easily the MOST THOROUGH eye exam I have ever received by far. He was also extremely friendly and supportive the entire time and explained every step better than any eye doctor I have ever had. And this is coming from someone who has a phobia for anything having to do with my eyes. They also got my new glasses made super quickly and made sure I was happy with them before I left the store. Wish I could give 7 stars. Jonathan Chun was the coolest eye doctor I've ever met. He's the first one that didn't push too hard for me to get glasses even though I wanted contacts. He still explained the importance of having glasses with the contacts, but that's not what I was there for and he understood that. He even let me reschedule my dilation because I had to go back to work, at no extra charge. read more

I just bought my new glasses here and love them! I had my eyes examined before I left Indiana so my then-current benefits with VSP would cover the exam and because I was relocating to Hawaii, my Indianapolis optometrist wrote out the prescriptions for my contacts and glasses to fill when convenient for me. I went to the Eyewear Emporium to get my glasses and I loved the choices. Pricey but very stylish. The only reason they lose a star is because they aren't a VSP preferred provider which means I had to pay for the glasses ($900+ on my FSA) and will be reimbursed a portion from VSP at some point. read more

Dr. Lau and his staff are amazing! I've been looking around for a new pair of glasses and stumbled upon this place. I've passed by everyday on my way to work, but never had the change to stop in. A few months ago, I went in to see if they could repair the nose piece on my old glasses. Joel welcomed me in and quickly fixed it. I was expecting to pay for his services, but he told me it was no charge and handed me his business card. I was shocked by his kindness and incredibly grateful that he was able to fix my glasses. I finally got my new prescription and decided to come here for my new glasses. Joel was working again and was still very pleasant and helpful. He even recognized me from my last visit! This place makes me feel like I'm back home in Hilo in a small town shop. I like that a lot. They have a great selection of frames to choose from and also have contacts and sunglasses available. I owe this place so much gratitude. I guess I had gotten used to being treated just as a number / sales target at other places. Here he spent a long time to fix my prescription with absolute precision - several previous eye doctors had said "nothing much has changed - keep your same prescription it won't make a difference" - but holy cow it made a huge difference to have accurate strengths in my conatcts. It eliminated so much eye strain to have the updated contact lens prescription. My old prescription had actually been too strong which even messed up my near vision. I would definitely recommend this team! Oh, AND they price match 1-800-CONTACTS which is awesome -- I like supporting small business and the contacts arrive in the same amount of time as 800-CONTACTS. The only thing I would have changed about my experience is getting an itemized receipt. Joel is so kind and helpful. I went in thinking I would have to get new glasses since my quest frames from someone else kept breaking and cracking. He graciously said he could put it in his cleaner to get rid of the super glue I've been using and find a frame for my lenses. Withing 20 minutes I walked out with a new frame for my lenses for $86. And he said if anything happens or I need an adjustment or anything to just go in and they could help. Just like in previous posts the prices may look high, but the service that you will continually get is amazing. I will definitely be going there from now on with all my eyewear needs. I am blown away by the competency, care, and concern I received today at Downtown Vision. Dr. Chun was extremely thorough during my examination and made sure to explain everything during the visit. My last experience with an optometrist left me with more questions than answers and Dr. Chun made sure to answer all of my questions and make sure I felt comfortable and informed. He also addressed my eye issue (astigmatism and distance) with ease, whereas previous optometrists had failed. Dare I say, the eye exam was fun! I learned several new and interesting things about eyes. Bonus: I used my old frames, so I was able to pick up my glasses with the new prescription on the same day! I think they may be able to do this with new frames as well, depending on the lens selection. Dr. Chun and his wife, Mia, are very kind. The appointment was right on schedule, and the office is clean and orderly. I would not hesitate in recommending Dr. Chun to friends and family for their prescription and eye care needs. read more

Went in to see if they could fix the hinge on my daughter's glasses. Took them 15 minutes and a whopping 5 bucks to fix it. AND they said if it breaks again, bring it back and we'll fix it free of charge. Who does that?! Plus, I saw some frames that I just LOVE. I'll be back! read more

My glasses needed a repair which I did not want to try to do myself. The frame was bent on both ear pieces and I thought if I tried to bend them back they would break. Since I live near Vision Center I thought I would see if they might be able to help me. I have never been in there before but they welcomed me and Mr. Chun took my glasses into the back and within 5 minutes they were as good as new. In addition to the great personal service the adjustment was at no charge. As you can tell from my other reviews, I'm not really an 'emporium' kind of guy. In fact, I'm not even sure I know what that word means. But I was in the market for some new glasses (having ignored my ophthalmologist's advice for four or five years) and had seen some very nice frames on the face of a clerk at the downtown post office. I'm normally not one to ask people where they bought things but he seemed cool so I asked, and he told me about this place. The sales clerk was very helpful and friendly. In fact, she knew exactly who I was talking about when I told her about the postal clerk; remembered his name, what frames he had. I was impressed. I expressed some hesitation because of the price and my insurance coverage, but she assured me that they'd file a claim and she knew what UHA would pay for frames/lenses. Again, I was impressed. She told me that they would be ready in about four to five days and I left, wallet considerably lighter but happy that I'd gotten what I wanted and that I'd been helped by such a cheerful and knowledgeable person. Fast forward to today; it's been about seven days and I'm getting a bit antsy for my glasses. I call and a guy answers - I think he's the owner. I ask about my glasses and he says, "Oh! I just messed up on them. I cut the lens wrong." I'm a bit concerned now. "So...?" He stammers a bit and tells me he'll try to get it done by Monday. Or Tuesday. I'm no longer impressed. In fact, I'm left to wonder if my new lens will be cut correctly when I get them. I know people make mistakes and this person was honest enough to admit it; he could very well have just told me that they weren't ready and blamed something or someone else. But he told me the truth, ugly as it is. I was so ready to give this place four stars based on the sales clerk alone, high prices and all. Now, though, I'm left to wonder how a place that professional can have such poor quality control. I may update / revise my review after I pick up the glasses, depending on what happens. For now, though, color me just okay. Maybe this is why I kept putting off getting new glasses in the first place. read more

Robert is a true professional and knows his stuff and will insure you have the proper sized frames or else will order it for you.
