    5/22/22 Let's eat
    John F.

5/22/22 Dona Cecy's Pupuseria is a restaurant that caught my wife's attention after visiting the flea market. This store is heavily populated by the Hispanic community. How many dialects of the Spanish language were there I cannot say, but what I can tell you is this, the place was booming with customers. My guess is a lot of families who had finished church and stopped by for a bite to eat. I seemed to be the only gringo in the mix of the Latino population. This did not bother me one bite, dispite some of the looks I got from some people. Then again, maybe they were looking at my wife who was with me and wondering what the hell? Whether this truly the case it matters not. We were here for some food. Dona Cecy's Pupuseria is what we came for and The Pupusas with Cheese was calling my name. My wife ordered The Pupusas with Cheese and Loroco. If you don't know what a Loroco is, it is an edible flower popular in El Salvador, Guatemala and other places. We also ordered drinks orginally large, but learned the store did not have large lids for the drinks. (I hope this isn't a normal thing) We then changed the order to medium drinks and my wife ordered a medium Horchata ("Horchata, or orxata, is a name given to various kinds of plant-based beverages. In Spain it is made with soaked, ground, and sweetened tiger nuts. In Latin America, and other parts of the Americas, the base is jicaro, melon or sesame seeds, or white rice, along with other spices. Wikipedia) and I ordered a mango drink. Both drink came with ice and this is good, because the drinks are very sweet...or so it seems. (Something to keep in mind) We watched as hot delicious food was being made by the nearly a whole female staff. I only saw one guy and he was the youngest out of the bunch of women working there. The male took our orders and my wife jumped in and placed our orders in rapid Spanish. Next time I will have to be quicker with my Spanish. Especially in an all Spanish environment. This store looks to have been around for a long time. The name of this store I now realize are in a several places I have visited, but did not place the name and face. *One of the things that could be a very dangerous and is a accident waiting to happening is how slippery the flooring is on one's way to the bathrooms. There is a wet floor sign in the men's bath when I was there. The floor was slippery there too. The urinal near the toilet looked to be ready to fall down. There is a puddle of piss on the floor to, so I wasn't about to stand in that. (Urinal mat(s) please) once again. If your penis is to small, MOVE CLOSER TO THE URINAL. (Si su pene es demasiado pequeño, ACÉRQUESE AL URINARIO) The women's bathroom look to be as slippery as the men's bathroom from what I saw when the door opened. I would say a bathroom upgrade is in order.* Since we only ordered takeout, I can't say how the dine in experience was. This will be for another time. The food was delicious. Oh!, I forgot to mention my wife ordered some pineapple cookies which were soft batch. I believe she found them delicious, because I can't find them anywhere.

Server Vanessa was great with smiles and great personality- I try to order beef stew with extra meat they wanted me to pay additional full order of beef stew so - I decided and replaced for 5 pupusas - 3 frijoles con queso 1 shrimp and 1 pepperoni- wasn't enough shrimps in the pupusa same thing with the pepperoni was not enough very disappointed, it's a shame

Terrible customer service and food was bad, pupusas were very dry. The lady left to go use the bathroom and talk to other coworkers leaving us unattended.

Walk in at 9:15 pm to dine in an i was told place is close.

9:15 was told you cant eat here cause servers dont want to serve is amazing how a restaurant that depends on people tells people they cant eat here, not coming back to this place service is horrible because there is no service

I can only speak for the food since we've never dined inside, which alot of people mention is the only thing good about this place. Definitely one of the best pupussas I've had. And very cheap! They're pupussas are made fresh, so it takes a while. We've ordered from them many times over the years and their food has yet to disappoint. But just order ahead for to-go.

Compared to the one in Arlington, this place is much better and seemed a lot cleaner. Just ordered a few pasteles to take home and they were alright. They didn't have empanadas or saltenas at the time and I didn't have time to wait for them to make some. Not sure how long it's been around but I think it's been there for a while. I'm surprised this is an FTR.

The beautiful artwork featuring local women of color from Colombia adds a great cultural touch, and there's plenty of parking. I ordered the Papas Rellenas (picadillo-stuffed potato fritters), which were really big, dense, and satisfying for $5. I also got the bandeja paisa (with kidney beans, steak, fried egg, pork belly, etc.), knowing it would take about 20 minutes on a Monday at 10:45 a.m. That wait felt outrageous, though--only about 10 people were in a space that could easily hold 100. However, the pork belly and steak wasn't overcooked and very flavorful. Even the sausage bursted with flavor. The food was authentic and tasty, but the long wait is a dealbreaker for me unless I'm with a friend craving Latin food and have time to spare. I probably won't return on my own unless it's a weekend and I have time to kill.

I placed an online order for pickup, was charged in full, and was never notified of any issue. I drove almost an hour to pick up the order, only to be told upon arrival that my order was not ready and would not be fulfilled at all. This order was for an event I was attending, so I was left scrambling at the last minute while staff showed no acknowledgment or accountability for their mistake. I was never contacted, never proactively refunded, and had extreme difficulty reaching anyone. Phone calls went unanswered repeatedly. As a last resort, I commented on one of their Instagram posts and my comment was deleted. I posted again and still received no response. It wasn't until over a month later that someone finally shared an alternate phone number for a staff member. When the refund was finally processed, it was only partial about 65% of the total charge. I am still having to follow up to recover the remaining balance. To make matters worse, I was blocked from their Instagram page. At this point, this is no longer about the money. It's about the complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic customer service. I am a reasonable person and understand that the food industry is complex but businesses do not have the right to charge customers, fail to deliver, avoid communication, and then silence them. This experience was not only disappointing, it was disrespectful. Unfortunately, this is one of the only places offering Colombian food in the area, which leaves customers with little choice. A quick look at reviews across platforms shows that customer service issues are a consistent pattern. I had previous less-than-great experiences ordering here, but this was the tipping point. This business seriously needs education and improvement in customer service. Customers deserve transparency, communication, and respect.

They weren't crispy like I prefer my Yuka fries so that was a downside however they do not skip out on the portion for this side. Rice & red bean mix was okay as well. Pretty simple for this side. Whole chicken might be the star of the show! Chicken was extremely tender and quite literally fell off the bone! I like how this wasn't over seasoned to overpower the dish. The whole chicken ended up being 2 meals for 2 ppl so I think this could be shared for 2-4 people depending on the person of course. Now I am a sauce girl & unfortunately I was disappointed in the sauce that was paired. The white / yellow sauce didn't have much of a taste and not sure what this was suppose to be. The green sauce was a simple jalapeño sauce I believe. I'm used to this sauce to be more creamier however it was very simple and more liquid than creamy. Service was nice & there's indoor seating! Outdoor parking is a little limited.

I got the pique meal and a couple of sodas. The meal was served with llajua ( spicy Bolivian sauce, https://boliviancookbook.com/sauces/llajua-spicy-bolivian-salsa/) as an appetizer. The pique had roast steak, chopped beef hot dogs, hard-boiled eggs, red and green peppers, tomatoes, onions, and green chilies served over french fries. The serving size was very large, so I took it home and had the other half for dinner. All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. The meal was brought out in about 15 minutes. The decor was interesting with Bolivian folk themes. There were about 20 or 30 people in the restaurant, which is a good sign. They seemed to be a regular crowd. The total came to about $30.00. No complaints. Keep up the good work. I found the receipt and updated the review. The pique was $19.95, the Refresco de Sangria soda was $3.50, and the fruit juice was $3.75, for a total of $27.20. There was a sales tax of 6% ($1.63), and a Fairfax County food and beverage tax of 4% ($1.09). There was a 15% service fee that I do not recall being disclosed ($4.08). The total was $34.00; I left a $6.00 tip. A $27.20 meal thus became a $40.00 meal. Are you serious? This is 25% in fees and taxes before the tip is even left. If you include a 20% tip, that would be 45% in fees, taxes, and tips on top of the cost of the meal. The restaurant should charge the full price instead of adding on a 15% non-optional fee. Fairfax County should know better than to charge a tax which can and does hurt restaurant sales.
