My wife stopped by this establishment to pick up some dinner for the two of us after a long day of shopping. Peruvian chicken and a few other meals are amongst my favorite things to eat; BUT, this experience was not at all what I was expecting. I ordered the quarter white rotisserie chicken with the salad and yucca as my sides. My wife ordered a shrimp meal with rice and a potato? The chicken was absolutely disgusting!!! It was as if they forgot that it was on the rotisserie and pulled it off just as the last drop of moisture fell into the burning, hot embers. The chicken was so dry that I could've used it as kindling for my survival kit. The yucca, which I don't eat often, seemed that it was also overcooked and had several strands of fibrous stuff running down the length of the chunks. I was so disappointed that I trashed everything except for the salad, which was actually very tasty. I'm not sure if what they served was cooked the day before and then reheated, but that would actually make sense. I hate wasting food like that in these times, but I wasn't going to waste gas (at these prices) to go back and complain...this my rant on this post. I don't know if Mi Rico is a new restaurant, but you all need to do much better if you're trying to survive in this economy. IJS! read more

When ordering online, the menu prices shown are not the prices they actually charge when you pick up your food. The staff say the owner does not want to update the online menu, which is misleading to customers placing orders. When I asked about the price difference, they would not honor the online price and instead charged the higher in-store price. Good food and service, but the inaccurate online pricing and refusal to honor the advertised prices left a negative impression. read more

I passed this place due Inc home from work and made a note to stop by and try it. I went and ordered the Lomo Saltado and it wasn't that good unfortunately. They could use better cuts of meat and add more of the soy sauce to the plate. It just doesn't have that punch to it. I should make a note I go to Lima, Peru every year. Sometimes twice, so I'm used to really authentic Peruvian food. The chicha Morada was good though. read more

Updating my review since I haven't written one in over a decade. This place is still solid. Still the same small local spot, still huge portions. I look at the one star reviews and am sad because this place is pretty good. The chupe de camarones is supposed to be a chowder/soup... So I'm kind of laughing at the one star review that says it came out soupy.... That's literally what the dish is supposed to be. Normally it is a bit thicker and more on the chowder side, but I think the flavor makes up for the wateryness. It's so large that I couldn't finish and the to go container was like the size of a sherbet bucket. The tamale was really good and the chicharrón wasn't overcooked. I don't like it when it's too dry and too fried and this was pretty good. My spouse got the leche de tigre which he liked, but I really liked the cancha (fried corn kernels) that it came with -- they do a really good job with them. Crispy, not too dry, nice and salty. Overall I'm glad this place is still here. I think the local Peruvians know it's a solid spot so it's still standing... Don't let these picky reviewers keep you from trying some authentic no-frills Peruvian cuisine! If you're a patient but true foodie you won't be disappointed. read more

It's not an enjoyable task to have to update a five star review and shed stars, but it's gotta be done. And giving three stars is pretty indulgent in my opinion. Last night we arrived at prime dinnertime to a curiously quiet restaurant. We had the same server as on several previous occasions. It was not a good omen when this lady took JP's order and walked away without asking me if I wanted anything. JP called her back and I placed my usual order for Camarones a la Crema (shrimp with cream). JP had also ordered this dish in addition to an aperativo (appetizer) of chicharrones con yucca (pork rinds with yucca). I didn't sample the chicharrones but note they were of the "wet" variety, more like roast pork. The hot and fresh deep-fried yucca was kinda good but still excessively salty. Shortly thereafter we received the camarones a la crema. They looked okay except today the sauce was very thin and flooded the beans on the plate. I was so disappointed on the first bite of shrimp to discover that the shrimp were tough and flavorless, completely without seasoning, not buttery and tender like the two previous times. Also odd is that the menu specifies that this dish comes with half a baked potato. But each time I have ordered this dish they forget the potato and I have to request they bring it out. When I asked our server if they had changed cooks, she said no. She was completely indifferent and unapologetic as to the poorly prepared shrimp. I might come back here, but it won't be anytime soon. read more

Mi Rico Peru is a very good place to get Peruvian food. It is not fancy decor or plating; it's is basic good food served from a very good staff with a positive attitude. I've eaten here a few times. The trio fajitas plate is good, but not glamorous. The sauce is too much like tomato sauce and the cut of steak is mildly tough and lacks flavor. Overall, it is still a good plate, especially for the inexpensive price. The last time I ate there, I had steak tacos. Again, good tacos, but needs more flavor. Went for a pickup order a ceviche and chupe de camarones. The ceviche was so salty I brought it back in the added more lime and gave back to me it still was very salty. She said she would make me a new one when I got home and tried it, it tasted as if they just added water to the ceviche it had no taste no flavor. It is a very small restaurant but because it is, while you're being served it feels like being served food at your best friends house and his mom just cooked all the food. My girlfriend and I both got the Lomo saltado and oh my gosh!! It was SO GOOD. I also had a side of plantains, and talk about a huge portion. One of my go-to restaurants in Alexandria. Mi Rico Peru is not the most beautiful establishment you'll ever walk into but the food is ALWAYS good, no matter what you get. The classic saltado, the fish chicharonnes, the calamari, the soup, the plantains, [huge] burritos... I've been here so many times that I should be ashamed but they really execute everything well at this restaurant. You can order for pick-up or call ahead and place an order when you make reservations. Sit-in service is a little slow but its always worth it. One year, I really wanted to go here for my birthday. I arrived only 10 minutes before closing while there were no other customers (I know, jerk move!) but the owner was around & kept the place going for me. That reminds me, the paella is amazing! That was a simple but very memorable birthday dinner. Please don't skip out on this place based on looks. You wont know what you're missing but you'd definitely be missing out! read more

I am lucky Mi Rico Peru is really close, because I love it. I usually eat in because even though I live close, the food is just not the same once I get it home. Staff is friendly and it can get busy in there. TV is usually tuned to soccer (yay!) or news. The yucca is always crisp and hot, as are the pupusas - both are delicious. Chips and salsa are OK, and sometimes the chips are served warm, which is nice. I've had the Peruvian chicken here - again, it is OK, there are better places for Peruvian chicken. But both the lomo and pollo saltado are excellent and the rice is perfect. I am looking forward to many more great experiences here! read more

No matter how many times I call and explain JUST cheese and meat they give me the same stuff. When I show up to complain nobody takes ownership of the mistakes. On top of that the food is overpriced. $45 for 2 quesadillas and 4 pupusas. Ridiculo Came today because I was craving lomo saltado. The meat isn't the same quality, super chewy, no flavor. Found this hole in the wall a few weeks ago. Have tried it a couple of times since. So far, the Chaufas de Pollo, Lomo Saltado, Tacu Tacu, and the Pupusas have not disappointed. It literally took 20 minutes for her to bring my brother a cup of water when they were literally not even busy at all . I ordered a Pescado en crema blanca & revived the complete opposite & when I told the server she denied it & blamed me but from what I understand the customer is always right . Can't even forget about the fact that they're air conditioning wasn't even working . This place is great! My wife and I went here the other day and loved our food, we both thought it was delicious. We had yuca for an appetizer and it was tasty, and both our entrees were not only delicious but enormous. Super good value here. A few people have pointed out that this place is a little small, or doesn't have the best possible ambiance, or sometimes the service can be slow. Maybe those things are true to one degree or another, but you're paying very affordable prices for exceptionally tasty food and if that's what's important to you this place will make you happy. read more
