The line was long so we waited when it was his turn he indicated that he was allergic to gluten which the cone is made of asked if he can have the free ice cream but in a cup. The server said no and that he had to pay. Which was surprising cause they are usually accommodating. So we stood in line for such a long time, he decided to buy the ice cream. I'm rating this a one because of the service how they were not willing to just put the side serve in a cup. I got three blizzards from there, two heath bar and one mint Oreo. The heath bar blizzards were pretty good but the mint Oreo Blizzard was sickeningly sweet with way too much green syrup in it. I have a tremendous sweet tooth but it really ruined the ice cream. DQ ice cream is too light to handle that much heavy syrup. DQ is a triple threat: value, size, and taste! I've paid anywhere from $2.54-$3.72 (it's $2.99 here) for a small cone depending on the location, but every penny was worth it! The most generous "small" was definitely at this location, and the creamy and smooth soft serve was also shaped in the most eye appealing fashion. Used to be good, now overcharges and poor quality We ordered 2 banana splits and we're definitely overcharged for them. This is the worse Dairy Queen i ever came to. I brought my granddaughter to get a cone and the girl behind the counter was rude and dirty looking and the guy behind there helping was the same. I asked for a cone and she put it in a cup, When i told her i wanted a cone she began to get an attitude and argue with me that i said cup. I told her to give me my money back. She threw it at me and i threw the change back at her. I called her a female dog word and she called me an old hag. Very disrespectful. I wish i could locate the owner. The line is the least of my complaint! The younger kids that work there are nice but always screw up our order! The owner/ manager yelled at me because he didn't hear my order correctly and proceeded to tell me that he had 16 years of experience and knew all the flavors/ menu! After getting sucked in by DQ's Valentine's Day cake commercial where the dude presents his girl a long red spoon from a black box, I decided to get a DQ heart shaped cake for my family on V-Day. So I walk into the place on Sunday at 1pm and its deader than road kill. I ask blondie behind the counter "Which is the V-Day cake on the commercial?" She answers in a dead pan manner "I don't know what commercial you're talking about..." So I just ask my kid to pick out a cake and she picked out something with this Blizzard bullshit brand with pink frilly KISS ME writing on it. Beware. The cake frosting is not the same...its buttercream type. Not the whipped cream based frosting we grew up with. Do not order your cake from there if you like the whipped cream ones. We were really pleasantly surprised by the super helpful man when we stopped in recently for a last minute ice cream cake. He suggested and made up a special cake for us on the spot. Always liked taking the kids here when they were little because they liked it. But was not overly impressed by the ownership. I noticed a sign (under new ownership). The ice cream itself just cannot compare to homemade ices cream like Kilwins or other ices cream shops. We went in here this weekend for a Ice Cream cake and the Carmel & fudge blizzard cake was really good. Slow service.. . There were two people in line in front of me that each got one item. Only one girl behind the counter, cashiering and making orders. Two people in the way back not assisting up front. Now there's four people in line behind me as I'm waiting to order. Someone from the way back yells out if the girl up front needs help, she says no!? It's my turn to order my one Blizzard. Some one from the back comes up front and makes a comment about how she does need help. The ice cream was the same as any DQ, but my reason for the 2 stars is the speed and quality of service. A Monday evening around 8pm, this location had a huge line in it. One expects a bit of a wait when there is a huge line, but I quickly came to realize that it was because of the pace of the workers that the line was so huge! You'd think they were all human snails. We nearly decided to walk out and instead get a quart of ice cream from Jewel, but one of our party was having a craving so we waited. In that time, I of course read the various reviews to see what other people had said. I saw the same complaints: slow, Slow, SLOW!... and a strange reoccurrence of people complaining about paper in their ice cream? Lol, I considered saying "hold the paper" when I ordered. Besides being slower that all heck, the staff all seemed to suffer from a very bad case of RBF/RAF (for those of you who don't know, Resting Bitch Face and Resting Asshole Face)-- not a single smile or friendly greeting to be found! On a different note, DQ needs to work on their fudge. It's a little to grainy for my liking. Otherwise I liked that stuffed fudge cookie thing with ice cream. read more

I just left the DQ in Palatine and I won't be back. I went into the store 2 days ago to order a dessert that I had seen online. When I went into the store to pick it up I was surprised and told the clerk (the same one who took my order) that it wasn't what I expected. She got very defensive and told me she has been taking orders for 12 years and never had a complaint before. The owner got involved and it went from bad to worse! I told him my biggest complaint is that neither of them even suggested that they were sorry for my disappointment. His retort was, "You got what you ordered!" Then, a teenage girl who worked there walked past the counter and completely ignored me. Interesting. I then watched her say something to a co-worker and then walked away out of sight. Just left DQ and have to say it was pretty disappointing. My husband and I frequent often and always leave a generous tip, but tonight I regret doing so. I order the same thing every time without issue, but it seemed like my medium ice cream was more like a small serving. When I inquired about the size, the girl said the ice cream was softer tonight, so it seemed more compact. However, the girl in front of us ordered a small cone, but was surprised at how large it was. As a paying customer, who orders the same thing every time, it was a rip.
