I am upping my previous review to 5 stars. They added burgers to the menu and they are excellent... Neiman Ranch beef, bakery rolls, etc. - very good. Their Maxwell Street Polish is excellent as is their Duck Sausage. They also now serve alcohol. They are very friendly - the manager and owner are both great. Good job guys! read more

I'm vegetarian/vegan, so stopped in to check out what they offered. I didn't feel welcome to ask questions as I tried to figure out the menu, so I didn't really get what I was looking for. The service was pretty basic and unwelcoming, and the atmosphere was set up like a fast food diner. I wouldn't come back, even though I'm happy they have some vegetarian options. On our trip to Milwaukee this weekend we discovered this place to eat strictly because it was near our hotel and that it got a decent review on Yelp. To say that we were pleased with Dr Dawg would be an understatement. This place serves Vienna hot dogs and Scala Italian beef. I had the hot dog on our first trip and my wife had the bratwurst. Both were very good. We also ordered the garlic-rosemary fries. They were outstanding. They use fresh cut fries and they are cooked perfectly. The next day we went here again. We both got the burger. I had the standard cheeseburger and my wife had the same but had blue cheese and bacon on hers. There both were very good. They use a beef supplied by Niman Ranch. The beef is 100% Angus, all natural and fresh never frozen. The beef contains no growth hormones or antibiotics. The restaurant has plenty of seating and is very clean and bright. The staff is very friendly. We will always come back to Dr Dawg's on our trips to the Milwaukee area. read more

I know that what happened was a one time occurrence. I love Dr. Dawg and have been coming back every time I am in Glendale. The food and the staff are awesome. Came to check out the burger and the Prime Burger was good, but not great. Ordered it cooked medium and got well done. Not enough beef flavor or juiciness in the meat. The Chicago dog was fine, the flavors just didn't pop like at other places. Maybe lack of freshness. Chili dog was ok, but also lacked flavor from the chili. Garlic rosemary fries where nice and aromatic, but lacked salt and flavor of rosemary. Also oily and soggy from the garlic oil. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way for anything here. It was $30 for two burgers, a "pile" of fries, and two medium drinks. I think that's quite a bit. It's pretty kid friendly. The staff were nice and food came in a reasonable amount of time. Though food was fresh, it had quite a bit of grease. Anyone negative about our visit was the dirty booths. There were visible crumbs and grease marks on the tables. The menu is extensive and offers quite a bit for most people to find something. They have fresh baked goods (cookies, cupcakes) that looked tasty. Parking is easy to find and it's right off the highway. We would consider going back. read more

I've been wanting to try Dr Dawg for quite a while & I was sad to have been served such a disappointing meal. I ordered curbside pickup. A footlong Chicago dog & fries. The last time I had a footlong Chicago dog was when I was a kid visiting my grandparents in Chicago. It was always a big treat for me & my brother. I was hoping Dr Dawg's footlong would bring back happy memories from my childhood. Sadly, it did not. My childhood footlong was served on a Chicago style steamed warm & soft poppyseed bun. This footlong was on a cold, hard, & crusty bun without the ubiquitous poppyseeds. I know I'm a blasphemer because I order my dog with only ketchup (gasp!), pickles, & celery salt but we all have our faults. ‍ A little celery salt goes a long way & Dr Dawg poured it on my hotdog. There was more celery salt than ketchup! Half was horribly salty & the other half was flat out inedible. I choked down the salty half with an entire bottle of water. Then I tossed the remaining cold hard bun & wiped everything off the other half of the hotdog. I got most of the celery salt off but the plain bun-less hotdog half was still way too salty. Also, my fries weren't cooked long enough so they were lukewarm & kinda mushy in the middle. I gave Dr Dawg 2 stars because I asked for pickles on the side & they gave me a lot of pickles, which no one else every does. Luckily, I was making a phone call after they brought out my meal because they forgot the pickles & had to run out again to bring them to me. I won't be returning for another meal at Dr Dawg. If I'm jonesing for a hot dog, I'll make the trek to Portillo's. read more

First off...gotta say I miss the Greenfield location! Before Portillo's arrived, Dr. Dawgs was my hot dog/Italian beef spot! So, we made the trip to the Port Washington Rd. location yesterday, as we have a few times before. It's certainly worth the ride every now and then. The Italian beef sandwich here is really good! The beef is juicy and flavorful, the Gonnolla rolls they use are amazing, and their giardiniera (mild or hot) is awesome. Not sure I've had a better Italian beef in the Milwaukee area?! Hot dogs...after all, it is Dr. Dawg we are talking about. I had a 12" Chicago style dog and it was pretty good. I've had the chili dog before, and I'd say that their chili dog is better than their Chicago style dog. BUT...I think both Portillo's and Martino's Chicago style and chili dogs are better than Dr. Dawg's. Just my opinion! The fries!!! Oh my gosh, they are sent from heaven. Hand cut, with the skin on. Some of the best fries I've ever had. If you are a "dip your fries in mustard" kind of person, this is your place. They have an alternate garlic-rosemary fries, but I've always been content with the regular ones. I love this place!!! The owner has been known to hang around fairly often, working amongst the staff and chatting about the business with customers. We used to stop in it the Greenfield store really often, this Glendale store is just too much of a drive for simple, but definitely taste, comfort food. read more

I've heard good things about Dr Dawg and decided to check out their menu before visiting. I noticed they serve "Kobe Dawg". Since there are only 9 restaurants in the US authorized to sell Kobe beef I checked the list online and Dr Dawg isn't on it. So this is either misleading, to be kind, or outright fraud. The dogs were very good. My friends and I ordered lunch delivery for work. It came on time and we were happy with the dogs, the fries and everything. I will say it was a little higher than expected but the quality was there so we were not disappointed. A fun alternative to usual fast food. I must say......the team at this location is very consistent in providing AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE! Good customer service is all about bringing customers back, and sending them away happy enough to pass positive feedback about your business along to others, who may then try the service you offer for themselves and in their turn become repeat customers. I always say.....I value sincerity; it creates trust. Customers are very sensitive and know whether or not you really care the about them. My favorite is the 12" Maxwell Polish, toasted bun, made like a Chicago Style Hot Dog. But let me tell you.....when my taste buds say BURGER with the works....Dr Dawg is the ONLY place to go! Ordered two Chicago dogs. Made it a combo with fries and a drink. Not the lightest lunch but I wasn't expecting a $15 bill. Granted, I felt pressure to choose a tip. They spun their screen towards me with several tip amount choices. I chose the least because it's not a tipping kind of lunch. I have been going to Dr. Dawg for the past 4 years when in the area. Today I had stopped in and purchased a Chicago style hotdog and a plain hamburger. I ordered at 1:44pm and at 2:04 still no food! As I approached the counter the food wasn't on the grill and my ticket hadn't been started. I unfortunately was out of time and had to immediately leave without my refund or food. I really wanted to like this place. The staff was not friendly. No smiles, no warm welcome and acted as though they were put-out to take your order. Zero energy. You pay at the counter and then someone delivers it to your table. I ordered a chili dog and cheese fries. Fries were expensive, $4.29. I know, I know they're hand-cut. That is not hard to do. Having happened upon our first restaurant choice that was closed on a Sunday (what's up, Northshore?) we landed ourselves at Dr. Dawg. My sister had heard rumblings of a decent Italian Beef. We both had one, and it was right square in the middle of average. She had the cheese fries and the cheese was gritty and no good. I got a side of slaw, but for $1 it was a really, really small portion. We assessed at the end of the meal that the soda and the giardinera peppers were really all that was spot-on.
