We stopped in last Friday night for dinner as first time customers. The first time will also be the last. My boyfriend ordered a double burger with bacon and asked that it be cooked medium well. He took one bite and found the burger was bloody and raw. It was so red on the edges, that he cut it in half to check out how the middle looked; as we suspected, the burger was completely uncooked (yes, RAW) in the center. I ordered the Italian Beef. This place was Delicious! We were on our way to a weekend getaway in Kohler, WI from Chicago so we stopped here along the way. I am so happy we did. We had the Chili cheese dog, cheese fries & the most amazing cheeseburger. Being from Chicago I am pretty much a hotdog/cheeseburger snob but this place made me want to take the drive all the way to just have that burger again! The owner such a down to earth person too. He took the time to walk to our table and explain the process of how they cook their food. It turns out he lived in Chicago for many years too! You could tell he loves what he does. We tried this place by chance a few days ago. What a happy mistake! I was instantly happy with the menu selection as we went there assuming it was just a Hot Dog joint. I also noticed the relatively high prices which I later understood due to the freshness and quality of the ingredients. I ordered a hamburger with the works and it was AWESOME. So juicy and super high quality meat. Our little one ate a plain hotdog which he was pleased with. Was kind of surprised a plain hot dog (literally just hot dog and bun) was the same price as a Chicago dog. $3.60(ish) is too pricey in my book for a weenie in a bun. The Mister ordered both an Italian beef and a Chicago dog which he said both were delicious. We met Dr. Dawg himself and he was super nice. You can tell he really cares about his restaurant, the quality of food, and his customers. Because of him we enjoyed our visit that much more. The Chicago dog was good, but it was missing the poppy seeds on the bun that failed to make it truly authentic. The Italian beef was fantastic though. I had seen this place from the freeway and after seeing them rated as one of Milwaukee's "Best Burgers" by Milwaukee magazine, I stopped in. Glad that I did. My cheeseburger was outstanding. Cooked precisely the way I requested with a fine array of fresh toppings, just flatly delicious. With an extra dash of salt, the garlic rosemary fries were outstanding. The menu claims that the fries are peeled and cut onsite, unlike fries at almost any other inexpensive restaurant, and you can tell. For their burgers they use Niman Ranch beef, which is high quality stuff, from cows that are raised humanely and not treated like raw commodities. Some may not care, but this makes a difference to me, both in terms of taste and how I feel about eating beef. I was too full to try other menu items, but the Chicago dogs looked solid. Also, any place that has a char-grilled salami sandwich (made from a thick slab of Vienna Beef salami) is legit. That sandwich takes me back to Poochies, a semi-legendary hot dog shop in Skokie, IL, where a char-grilled salami sandwich has been a star on the menu for decades. That sandwich will be at the top of my hit list on my next trip to Dr. Dawg. In short, I sure as heck hope that this place makes it. Denizens of Milwaukee's north shore burbs, and of greater Milwaukee: you have an excellent and high-quality fast food joint in your midst. Cherish and frequent this establishment. Tried Dr. Dawg for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago. I thought the following things were good. I had the Italian Beef with sweet peppers and mozarilla cheese. And a soda. - Good location with lots of parking. - Many (almost too many) things to choose on the menu. - Decor was nice. - Food was made to order. - Great choices on the soda machine. - Very good bun for the Italian Beef. - Manager or owner brings you your order to the table. LIKE THIS. Things I did not like: - My Italian Beef lacked flavor. Sammy's in Greenfield and any Portillo's in Chicago are much better. - Green Peppers were falling out. Get them in there. - Young man taking my order was indifferent. Not greeted, no smile, no thanks for coming to Dr. Dawg. Suggest a field trip to a Portillo's to see how it is done right. - Floors were dirty. There were only 5 customers in the place they could have swept. - Place was cold. Originally I thought Dr Dawg ruined my Sunday. A couple of friends and I, all hungover, were headed to Green Bay for the game when I pulled an all of the lanes change kick flip to exit across all sorts of shit at the last minute to nosh on some dogs. Holy crap they have some gnarly stuff on the menu. After much deliberation I ordered the char grilled salami sandwich and a cheese dog and loved every bit of it. The salami sandwich was spectacular. This guy is not messing around. My friends both ordered some kind of kobe beef dog thing that I didn't understand one bit, but they both seemed to enjoy their shenanigans so there is that. Made a 2nd visit to Dr. Dawg, and this visit just reinforced my opinion from the 1st visit. The good Dr. has drawn up a recipe for success in my eyes. Of course I ordered the burger just like I knew I would and once again it was cooked perfectly. Ordered the fries with no salt and they were fantastic, actually ordered the cheese fries thinking the cheese would be on the side like it was for my wife on the 1st visit, but instead the fries came out covered in cheese .... oh so delicious!!!!! Once again the entire staff was very friendly and outgoing, both my wife and myself sensed that the employee's enjoy working there and making customers happy just as much as the Dr. himself. I've been to much pricier restaurants throughout the Milwaukee area and never have I felt this welcome from the entire staff. 2 visits, 2 great experiences....I'm sold, this is the best run restaurant in town. I was up in the Milwaukee suburbs for my son's soccer tournament and found Dr. Dawg on Yelp. When my son saw they had Italian Beef he insisted we go. We each had Italian Beef and the Garlic - Rosemary fries. The Italian Beef was very good, tender and juicy with excellent taste. What put the rating at five stars was the fries, they were out of this world. Just the right balance of flavors and perfectly cooked. I have only been here a couple times, but the food is pretty fantastic fast food. The Chicago dog is a good staple. They have a kobe beef hotdog that is tasty. The rosemary garlic french fries are fantastic and need no ketchup. I rather liked the italian beef sandwich with added giardinara and drenched in au jus.
