BEWARE PRICE WILL INCREASE & THEY WANT 50% DEPOSIT UP FRONT: Contractor requested 50% deposit over a week before the job. Contractor showed up late to the job and asked for money immediately. He brought two "day laborers" who did not speak English. Contractor then informed us that he would not be cleaning up at the end of each day for a 3 day project. We told him that was ridiculous and Contractor said "ok, I will clean up each day for an extra fee." Beware, if you want to hire day laborers you can do it much cheaper on your own. Additionally the estimate they give will increase. We believe the contract hassled us for the deposit so he could then hold us hostage & charge us more. I wish I could leave a 10-star review because Del and his incredible team deserve it. I live in a condo townhouse where one of the unit owners has a gas leak, which caused all of gas in the building to be shut off. Because I rent to two tenants, I couldn't wait a few weeks to get the gas fixed and turned back on, so I had to switch my gas oven over to an electric one ASAP. Unfortunately, I didn't have an electric hookup so I needed one added ASAP... and my electrical box was a few dozen feet (through the kitchen, around a halllway) from where the outlet was needed. Not to worry -- Del got me on the schedule within a DAY for an estimate, and came in a few hundred below other estimates I received from other companies. Between the fair pricing and the great reviews on Yelp, I figured Del would be a safe bet. Boy was I right! Del then had his guy out the FOLLOWING day to complete the work. They caused minimal damage to the wall despite several obstacles and were able to drop the electrical line BEHIND the drywall, saving me thousands in repairs to drywall and tile work. Then, despite warning Best Buy about the stairs and the narrow hallway/doorway, and confirming with them the gas oven did not need to be disconnected, the Best Buy delivery guy refused to bring the new electric oven up without taking off the door first and disconnecting the oven. Because I was out of town for work, I wasn't able to be there and do it myself, but Del's incredible team offered to take off the door for me AND disconnect the oven for FREE. They even put the door back on after the Best Buy guy left, again for free! Additionally, Del's team was able to work within the electrical guidelines I wanted (50amp vs. 40amp). I was also concerned that my tenants wouldn't be too happy to have holes in their walls, so Del was also able to schedule me quickly for the drywall repair. I first contacted DR Handy Services back in Dec '18 to have the handle on my worn storm door replaced. Luis was dispatched and took the old handle to Home Depot to try and find a replacement. Although they did not have one similar, Luis was able to find one on Amazon that he believed would work. Once the handle was delivered, he was able to install it successfully and it has been working just fine ever since. Speed up to this week (Oct '19) when the power on one side of my home went out suddenly. In the past when this has happened, I immediately check the circuit panel to make sure everything is in proper alignment and make the adjustment if not. On this occasion, everything seemed normal, so I figured that it must be a deeper problem. Therefore, I called Dr Handy Svcs, explained the scenario and requested that someone come out to look at the problem. Before taking my word on the issue and scheduling an appointment, Del(?) instructed me to turn off and unplug my computers and switch everything on the panel off completely and switch it back on (even though it appeared normal) as there could be something that is in a neutral state--and by doing so, this may solve the problem. I did as instructed and sure enough, all of the power was back to normal which saved me time (and perhaps money had a less knowledgeable, or perhaps less honest company had been contacted). A few weeks ago, my smoke detector (circa 1997-ish) starting beeping at 2am. I live in a condo on the top floor with vaulted ceilings. The brainiac builder decided it was a good idea to install the smoke detector at the apex (at least 12 feet high) instead of on the wall at a normal height. Anyway, the best I could do was balance a folding ladder on a table and climb the kitchen counter (each action compounding the stupidity and danger) and rip the smoke detector out of the ceiling. I ended up with loose live wires and no warning system, but the beeping stopped. I went on Yelp to find an electrician who would come out for what, to them, is a small job, but to me, it's extremely important. Enter Dr. Handy. Del and another electrician came out on Saturday morning. Del even went to Home Depot for me because some cheapskate put a base model in the box of the expensive one I purchased. They installed two new smoke / carbon monoxide detectors for me. They tested the system and made sure the detectors "spoke" to one another. He is so thorough and surgical when he works, it's really a sight to see. We texted back and forth and he gave me a price and told me when he'd be by to do the work. When it comes to minor house repairs, my husband and I can usually give it a go. However, when it comes to wiring and installing ceiling fans... directly over where we sleep... hiring a professional seemed like the right move. We were able to purchase ceiling fans on our own, and then have Del come out for the installation. We had him and his father install a new light fixture, add two new gfci electrical outlets (where there weren't any before), add a gate closure, and add a curtain rod.
