I contacted Del for the second time when one day recently, all the outlets on one side of my condo went dead. True to form, he was calm and pleasant, and he diagnosed the problem in about five seconds. I'm way too embarrassed to say what happened, but let's just say it was "user error"!! I fully expected to pay him for the visit, but he would not charge me. Since he was there, I showed him another future project, and he referred me to someone he knows, because that person has more expertise for what I need. Del can do it but he said this other person can do it better. Now, how many contractors would do that?! I enjoyed meeting his dad this time, too, since he told me about him the first time he did some work for me. He was willing to come out to take a look but he suggested that I try a couple of things first on my own. His tips worked, which essentially cost him a job. Wow, what a professional company! I found them on Yelp and after the reviews, decided to get an estimate. I needed a door handle replaced, floating shelfs hung (in a tough spot) and my Ring spotlight and camera installed on my brick garage. JC came out and quoted me and was very professional. The day of the install, they came, did all the installs, showed me and my wife during the process and again, totally professional. They focused on the details and the installs were awesome and looked like they belong there all along. Sad to say, but I'd give this company zero stars if I could. I will give one positive note: Del took great care to find the correct part on the internet for my bathroom fan since I had ordered the wrong one. Other than that, horrible experience. Del replaced the large overhead light in my kitchen. When he finished, he asked if I could take care of getting rid of the stuff left over from the work. I saw a large cardboard box and a few small items so I said ok because my recycling was that evening. When I looked in the box, I found non-recyclable material and asked him to take that away which he agreed to do. After he left, I found that he had left the VERY heavy old light in my kitchen for me - a 70 year old woman - to get rid of. Ridiculous. Not only that, he didn't clean up after himself. There was all kinds of grit on the floor. Needless to say, I'll never use this company again. In response to Del's comment, I believe I was mistaken about his person missing an appointment so I deleted it. Del called me because he was upset about my review. We do not agree on what happened. I contacted DR Handy...after reading reviews and contacting a few Yelpers. Del is the best!. I wanted a few curtains hung for ine appointment and my TV mounted to the wall for the next appointment(both were a few days apart). He did an excellent job!. Very professional, and gave great advice. I am having 2 additional TV'S mounted later with soundboards in a few weeks. I'm looking no where else, becuase I know the job(s) will be done right. Dr. Handy Services mounted my tv to the wall and concealed the wires behind the wall. This was my first time having a tv hung up and it's awesome and can swivel around so you can watch from different angles. After the most recent job I had a minor issue that in retrospect I could have EASILY resolved myself, but Del responded to my texts late that evening and returned to my house the next day to make sure the problem was resolved to my satisfaction. Del runs a great business and is proud of his work, and I am a very happy customer. We just moved into a new house and had some projects I could use a hand on. Found Del on Yelp and scheduled him for a Friday morning. He was super-communicative and professional ahead of the visit. When he arrived, he got right to work. He is a perfectionist and made sure everything - TV mount, pictures he hung, lights he installed, etc - was done to the highest level. He is a trained electrician, Nest Pro, and is an all around super knowledgeable guy. Also, his prices, especially for the DC-area, are extremely fair and he charges by the 15 minutes, so since I didn't use him for the full last hour, I only paid for the time he worked. Can't beat that. He worked hard, communicated when needed, and did great work. I have more projects coming up and I will be using Dr. Handy Services again for sure. I got a call back during which I was told they do electrics work and hanging folding doors i.e. Carpentry type work was best suited to another company they could recommend. Top notch. Fantastic owner who is detail orientated and committed to an outstanding service experience. He mounted two flat screen TVs, hung all of my paintings/sculptures/artwork, some which were large, odd-shaped and/or heavy and assembled the glass portions of the china hutch and curios. He arrived on time, did not sacrifice quality, was honest about what will work and what will not work and offered solutions to challenges we ran into. He returned to replace pretty much all of the ceiling fixtures (lights and fans) to include select dimmers and install a Nest device. The Nest device threw an error 3/4 of the way through - my home did not have enough power. Del recommended a Ring2, which he installed two (front and back) as well as an Almond device to allow connectivity for the front door (since sufficient bandwidth was not picking up). The builder did a pretty poor job with the electrical, so Del resolved the electrical issues impacting the installation (wiring and proper support to hold the light/fan) and even recommended swapping a pair of outlets to make it easier to find a wall-plate. Not only is Del's work and solutions top notch, he is very easy to communicate with and is honest regarding the services he offers. read more

We recently used DR Handy Services when we were selling our condo. There were a few items on the home inspection list that we agreed to have repaired and Del was great to work with.
