They walk you through a very detailed and personal dental plan to best improve your health.I think they've been in their bellflower office for 20+ years. When hubby had to change his dental group, we picked Dr. Lim Dental. First, the good stuff: 1. Easy to make an appointment 2. Nice front desk 3. Both dentists are also nice 4. Cozy and home-like office Now the not-good stuff: 1. Initial appointment with exam and x-rays was time-consuming as it included unnecessary, extra exams (neither hubby nor I ever experienced). We aren't sure, but it seemed like exams for cosmetic upgrades and maybe(?) a way to bill hubby's insurance for additional exams. I waited for hubby to come out almost 2 hours later and we both felt pressured about his experience. 2. Hubby received a basic dental cleaning but it only lasted about 7-8 minutes. At previous dentists, it always lasted at least 25 minutes. There was no fluoride paste or even polishing. We know that some offices don't do the fluoride, but no polishing, post cleaning flossing, nor manual pick work seemed rather odd. Hubby said that the cleaning was no more effective than his daily flossing. 3. WORST: We received letter packets from his dental insurance every other week for about 2 months. They were appeal letters stating attempts to bill hubby's insurance for a premium cleaning (worth about $800), rather than the basic cleaning that he actually received (worth about $75, which insurance covered). So we don't want to make assumptions, but when you received a $75 fully-covered cleaning but see paperwork that the insurance received a $800 claim, it is an unnerving feeling. This was also a hassle because hubby had to call his insurance each time to let them know what actually happened. We both work, but even though I have more flexibility, I wasn't able to make calls on his behalf because the appeals were under his name and account. read more

The dental chair is comfortable to be on and their tools are comfortable in your mouth not heavy on your gums nor painful. Dr.Lim knows what he's talking about when he explains what's going on with your teeth, how to clean them and what are possible solutions for your issue. Great experience here! The office is very modern and elegant. It doesn't have that "scary sterilized hospital" feel that most health providers have. It has a comfortable homey feel. PLUS-it has TV screen monitors on the ceiling so that you can comfortably watch something as you're having your teeth cleaned. The Doctors are husband and wife and are really sweet and funny. They are quite knowledgeable in their field and I trust them completely. Very professional. Dr. John took out all 4 of my wisdom teeth and as deathly afraid of needles as I am, I did not feel a thing! They use the latest technology like Waterlase and laser (trust me, you want this!) Dr. John has a really light hand and a soft touch. I've come in for everything from a frenumectomy, my teeth pulled, teeth whitening, and just general cleaning. Like I said, if you are afraid of needles and surgery stuff, if you do need it, these are the dentists to go to! It's pain free! This was the best dentist I had near me that went with my insurance. Everything seemed to be going fine. I go in one time and he tells me I have type 2 periodontis and 11 cavities. Interestingly enough, none of it was covered on my insurance. I had went to the dentist about 5 months before and had absolutely no teeth problems. I just tried to call them again to go in for a basic teeth cleaning. The receptionist tells me that I have to be reevaluated again before I can even get my teeth cleaned. This was the worst experience for not just me but my child!! After 3 very long hours at this office, I was so angry when I left! This guy scares you into believing that you need all kinds of "treatment" that your insurance conveniently won't cover (no matter how great it is) because insurance plans don't cover electric toothbrushes that he is calling a "device" for $135.00 or $650.00 for an herbal mouth wash he is calling "irrigation medication treatment" to get rid of your "infection" you know the one Gingivitis!! That's absurd! Then he wouldn't sign the paperwork I needed when I wouldn't sign on for the very expensive "treatment plan". His staff is very slow and the sales pitch starts right away. Give your patients a bit more credit Dr. Lim. Shame on you! You are a medical professional and people trust and need you so don't treat them like idiots!! Bottom line is... Don't go to this dentist unless you are able and willing to spend alot of money or sign up for Care Credit (a health/dental credit card) that they try to get you to do as well. This place was awesome! The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. The waiting room made me feel like I was at home. The 2 dental assistants were very friendly and helpful. The treatment room was very nice. They gave me a nice pillow and the chair was nice and comfortable. When I reclined, there was a tv screen on the roof playing soothing scenes of nature. Dr.Lim charged me $1490 for crown porcelain !!! (others only charge $750 to $900) and still got a problem when brushing my teeth with cold water, went back there for him to check and gave me the result with 2 options to fix it. option 1, to spend another $1490 for another crown that was needed on my other teeth and if I decide to wait for a year then option 2, to spend $1100 for a night guard so my teeth won't bite when sleep. Then I got escorted to the room so his Secretary could give the paperwork to sign and asked me which option that I would like to do and she kept cornering me. Told her that I had to talk to my wife first, then later she said if I could decide it now, she's willing to give $300 discount on the crown which was on sale today. I said nicely what about tomorrow and she replied it has to be now, not even one hour later and her face changed very seriously, no more friendly looks. I made an excuse that I had to pick up my kid right away and would come back after that which I did not. She kept calling me, text me , email me almost every weeks, every months, it's like a scam!.... DON"T EVER GO TO DR.LIM, he's not good, just do a basic crown, he could not even do it perfectly since I read other comments below plus his price is CRAZY!!! they won't feel sorry to you at all even after you JUST spend $1500or $2500 , they just want you to keep spending !!! read more

My dad brought me to Dr. Lim when I was 18 (I am now 30) and I had 10 cavities filled with Resin (tooth colored fillings). At each one of my check-ups by other dentists they had a very hard time trying to find them and just last week, I had a check-up with Dr. Lim and he even had a hard time finding them. My appointment last week went smoothly. The office looks like a house on the outside and the waiting room is like you are sitting in someone's living room. You cannot hear the traffic outside and it is VERY peaceful. The two ladies in the office were very nice and chatty. They were really helpful in keeping my anxiety low. Dr. Lim was funny and very nice. I enjoyed being able to watch tv while I am in the chair. read more

This office is deceptive. Dr. Lim seems like a soft spoken nice guy and for most intents and purposes, he is. Our experience is disappointing. The Invisalign process as a dentistry option is a quick fix. Our complaint is not with it. Be careful with what they tell you it will cost. When we first started Invisalign, the doctor himself warned us not to lose the retainer when we got to that point. Fair enough, he warned us replacing one would cost $150 to replace! Well, sure enough, as things go the dog ate a misplaced set of retainers (which btw means upper and lower). After ordering a new set, I went to pay and the office presented a bill for $600. Now, a person could argue that I might have misunderstood that the $150 was actually per piece(never clear). But how it then became $600 was beyond us. Market price for other retainers is $200. We also had a problem with the run around the office girl gave for why we owed an additional $400 that the insurance company didn't pay. It was explained several times as if I should understand it. Maybe it's me. I'll never know. Be careful, and try to get a better explanation then I did. Otherwise a surprise $1000 bill awaits you. Bruce Thomas read more

First things first, im super scared of the dentist. Ive found this place on yelp and read the reviews and I decided to give them a shot because I was experiencing some tooth pain. I make an appointment and when the day came, I got super nervous. However, the staff there is super nice and they all make you feel welcomed. I told the assistant (Cynthia) my fears and how nervous i was to get some dental work done and she reassured me that everything was going to be okay. Turns out I needed a crown done. Dr. John talked to me about the condition of my tooth and went over the options I had and the pros and cons of each. Dr. John's wife Dr. Sarah told me that she will do her best to make sure I am as comfortable as can be. They took such good care of me and whenever I felt uncomfortable, they resolved the problem right then and there. Best experience I've ever had at a dental office. I have always had the worst luck when it come to dentist I'm honestly terrified of going to the dentist. Let me start off when you walk in you see a super friendly face that greets you her name is Cynthia, she was very helpful and made me feel like everything will be ok,especially cause I was going there due to serious pain on my tooth which was my wisdom tooth. I mean I was dying in pain like I never felt before. Came in as a walk in and right alway meet Dr. John and Dr. Sarah and I have to say they are the nicest doctors I have EVER meet they checked me out,went over my x-rays and what they recommended. First of all, I have had the worst luck with dentists. Being forced to use School Teacher dental insurance, I was forced to choose from a wide array of inept dentists and have experienced some major crisis these past few years. I figured it was because I previously dealt with Middle Eastern dentists that did some shady stuff on me. Anyways, I had to find a new dentist that was local and who could deal with my dental pain quickly. That brings us to Dr. Lim. To be racist, I knew that I was going to choose an Asian dentist this time because I still have the fear of other ethnicities ever since the botched wisdom tooth extraction from the last dentist and so I looked through the local choices my provider gave and Dr. Lim was the best choice. By the way, this review is not a criticism of Dr. Lim's actual skills since I never met him. This is a criticism on how bad his office staff is and how poorly I was treated. Since this office staff is hired by Dr. Lim, his practice is reflected on this and yes, I am very angry. So I called last month to schedule an appointment as well as to transfer dentists on my insurance. During the process of trying to contact the office, since nobody ever picks up, I called my insurance company and made sure that I could go to Dr. Lim's office for work done. They told me that I had to wait for the first of the month or if it was an emergency. Yes, I had like four teeth that hurt REALLY bad so to me it was an emergency. Finally, a secretary calls me back and then I told her of my situation and she said that she couldn't give me an appointment until my insurance cleared. I was thinking, well, it hurts pretty bad and what if I wanted to pay cash? Anyways, I asked her if she could just take my information down so when it clears in a few days, we will be ready to go. She said no and said that once it clears then I should have no problem getting an appointment. I asked her questions about the company and she was evasive like she worked for the government or something. I was pretty pissed when she hung up. I should have had the warning sign to change again, but I had pain in my teeth and I couldn't risk waiting another month to get another dentist. Well, time passed on and after finally getting cleared to go in for work by insurance, the impolite secretary asked if I ever called and if they took my information down. Right there, I KNOW that she is the one who called me before and how come she couldn't have done it last time to save me all of this trouble? Anyways, I told her that I was in pain and I needed pretty quick treatment. She told me that the soonest I can see anybody for my initial exam and x-rays was a little more than two weeks. I asked how soon I can get work done after that, she told me that I would need to make another appointment. So instead of me wanting to wait two weeks so I can go in and make ANOTHER two week appointment, I wanted to make two appointments back to back so I could get this taken care of. She said that they can only schedule one appointment at a time. Now with procedures as they may be, I have already waited a month and I cannot wait yet another month to get this taken care of. The secretary suggested me finding another dentist and that is exactly what I am going to do. Like I said before, Dr. Lim may be the greatest dentist ever, but I will never know because I never made it through the door. I can thank his horrible staff for that one. If this office is that uncourteous BEFORE I even step in the office, I cannot imagine what it would be like once I get in there!!! I highly un-recommend this place and all of you might be better served going to 1(800) DENTIST or something like that. read more

DISHONEST and RIPPING YOU OFF!! Please read other people comments below as well which exactly happened to me and I wish I read those comments much earlier ! Don't be fooled when they replied nicely and professionally because some of the comments below have been already more than a year so basically they have never changed !! No wonder they got no patients, empty parking lot every time I visited them , no staffs except the one that answer the phone which also greedy as hell! I knew Dr.John Lim & wife for a while , basically they just did regular cleaning & even though their price was much higher but I didn't mind since I am Filipino too and could communicate & explain things easily. Recently I got a serious condition, received the quotation and compared it with 3 different doctors cuz I just got a funny feeling that they kept kind of forcing me & sometimes things could get a little bit unfriendly especially from Dr.Lim , not his wife, and I was right & shocked at the same time to find out that Dr.Lim is DISHONEST! & 80% higher in PRICE ! because there was one procedure that really not needed at all , it's like bringing your car for change oil and the mechanic FORCES you to replace the brakes as well. To make sure there wasn't any mistake, I called and the office told me that they just double checked everything and found no errors and kept reminding me to make an appointment before got too busy ! Also a friend of mine told me that she had 2 crowns were needed to be replaced but she wanted to do one at the time but Dr.Lim just took 2 crowns instead of 1 either by accident or in purpose and she ended up borrowed some money to pay for it cause she was actually thinking to do the second one in the next 6 or 9 months after the first and also she mentioned dr.Lim did not do a good job cause when she drinks a cold water, sometimes she can feel a little bit pain and afraid she need to double check what dr.Lim did to other doctors later on this year. Service: Not Bad! The dentists here are nice, but there is always something wrong with my teeth! In other words, they want the money. I have nice white teeth and Dr. Lim said that I had nice teeth, but they want their business so they like to sell on their services that are not needed. Whether it's a product, or service they are actually kind of annoying about it. They also have friendly staff that do most of the sales pitching and if you don't have the money for it they sign you up with Care Credit for the credit card program. Unless you want to get another credit card; I would not take that offer since they still go through a credit check which results in another inquiry to your credit history. Quality of Work: Terrible!!!! I got a surface 1 composite filling. This is a white filling that is very small on my molar. It was a small filling so no anesthesia was needed. I thought this would work fine, but 1 year later I needed to redo this filling since Dr. Lim the female dentist did not do a good job on it. I went to another dentist since I was tired of the reminder calls on cleanings and potential work for them I change dentists. I went to another dentist and got my teeth checked and heard the bad news about this filling Dr. Lim did. It had holes in the filling! so it meant I needed to get it redone! I wasn't sure about this so I went to another dentist and he said the same thing that the filling was not good. I ended up redoing this filling for the second time in a year! I was not happy about the quality of the filling Dr. Lim did. Also, on top of that this new filling actually matches the exact color of my tooth! Dr. Lim put a white composite that didn't match the color of my tooth. I was able to see it was a white filling, but this new dentist I used color matched my tooth and now I can't even tell if there was a filling there. Bottom line : I never returned to this dentist. They are all about SELLING, SELLING, SELLING. read more

I'm scared of any middle eastern dentist as last time they hurt my teeth really bad while flossing (and I floss a lot) anyway this office is nice and neat with a cool tv. That's about it. The staff sucks! The receptionist and the assistant look dazed and are extremely slow. After the dentists checks and pokes ur teeth they take you to a private room to discuss treatment... Kind of weird. They said I needed a bunch of work and added many extras. Uuummmm no! Then I got. Bill which my insurance covered all the costs. I took my own xrays in. The office is itself is very nice and the staff is also but Dr. Lim tries to push extremely expensive treatments for my teenage daughter that are not needed, even though I am on medi-cal and obviously cannot afford it. Previously, I had dental insurance from my job with a great dentist for years and my daughter's teeth were considered in good condition with none of the conditions Dr Lim claims my daughter has. I love Dr. Lim Dental. The waiting area is very clean and pretty. The dentists, Dr. John and Dr. Sarah are lovely and very knowledgeable. They take their time to explain the procedures and even give mini dental lessons if you ask them why this or that happens. They also make you feel like family; they actually remember certain things about a patient. It's not all business either, they love to throw a joke here and there. Dental health is their #1 priority regardless. If you need a wisdom tooth or a certain procedure for the future, they'll sure to remind you, but they are not pushy. They take a very proactive approach in their practice and do their best to prevent any minimal problems from progressing or even starting.
