They sell a great fashion product but deliver a poor customer service experience. In an area where the median prices of a 1BR hits close to $2M, I expected more. I purchased my first pair of docs in 1994 during college and my second ones just this week. The shoes are still great but the sales pitch and delivery is fundamentally flawed. First off, the store is the incredible tiny with the sales footprint about the size of a small NYC apartment. There were at least 50 potential consumers plus another 10 staff in there. It's absurd. I know rent is ludicrously Expensive in this part of the village but corporate should upgrade. Doc Martens have rallied back onto the fashion scene in a big way over the past year and brand might want to capitalize by redirecting their strategies. Just a suggestion. Staff was ok...except for obnoxious young dude (up you know who you are). I even think upper crust sales management was frustrated at the lack of sales structure. The sales reps are obnoxious, lackadaisical , unmotivated, and improperly trained. I might purchase more shoes but give me a reason to walk in. read more

The employee who was tall, skinny, had a tooth gem, brown skinned, curly hair, wearing the new pascal made in England dead stock boots was the most TWO-FACED person I have ever encountered! Such a fake person. Her attitude completely changed after telling her I was going to wait on purchasing them. She replied by saying "Okay fine you can leave now" and pointed to the door. She even went far enough to bump into me on purpose on my way out. Her coworkers were smirking at us on our way out after she bumped me. They should hire more genuine employees. My daughter has been hounding me to get her a pair of Docs for a while now but I did not want to order online since I wanted her to try them on first so to the store we go. The soho location was easy to get to and plenty of street parking around on the weekend. When we first walked in. We were greeted by staff and she told us how store was laid out and please sanitize with the sanitizer provided by a touch less dispenser. Also gloves and masks was available if you need. The first thing my daughter was attracted to was the special edition hello kitty Docs. As we were checking them out, John comes over at the perfect time and asked if he can help. My daughter tried on both the shoes and the boots. John was an exceptional sales person. He laced up the shoes perfectly for my daughter to try and even asked her many questions to make sure it was the right fit. He provided many helpful tips on breaking them in and offered items that complimented the shoe. Normally I would find this annoying but the way John offered the items, it was more like tips and he did not push for me to buy them. We ended up with the Hello Kitty boots and even got a few additional items that John suggested. Even thought my pocket was hurt when we left, it was a great experience! I felt like I was part of a CC commercial where they list the $$ of the items you charged but the smile on my daughter's face PRICELESS...especially since she is a 2020 HS senior who missed her Prom and graduation. read more

Awesome shoes and good service! I've been wearing doc martens since high school and I haven't purchased a pair in four years due to the fact that I had three already. However, since there aren't any doc stores in the Northern California area that I'm aware of, I went in on a whim. I saw a few limited edition designs that looked cool and unique, something from a cartoon. But what caught my eye was an ankle boot red pair of docs with zippers and lace. The lace was obviously now just for show. The leather was that beautiful crimson red leather and the design I believed was called naturesse. They always fitted beautifully and docs are extremely easy to move in regardless if you broke them in or not. I decided to buy them and bring them home as an early birthday present to myself and I absolutely love wearing them all the time! read more

Buying shoes online from Dr. Marten is a terrible experience. I ordered a pair of boots that turned out that they didn't fit me, apparently hidden away in their websites FAQs the shoes run bigger so they recommend buying smaller size (would've been nice to know at the time of purchase). Dr. Marten does not offer online exchange or exchanges for online orders in stores, the only option is to return the item and repurchase it in the correct size. Another issue is that the customer has to pay for the return, Dr. Martens will deduct $7 from your refund to pay for the shipping return which is crazy but what's worse is that the refund takes between 4 to 5 WEEKS! Lastly, they tell you to contact their customer support email and when you do, you will never hear back. read more

Dr Martens has been making amazingly wonderful quality shoes that represent youth culture for many years now. This Soho shop does not disappoint. Some people complain that their boots and shoes are expensive, but they will last you a lifetime if not longer. Many of us have Docs that are over 20 years old and just keep coming back in style over and over again. Paint them, refinish them, do whatever you will. Docs will always been cool and comfortable. This specific showroom is always on my go-to list at least once a year, preferably around August or September when the Fall designs roll in. Last time I was there, I bought some platform Chelseas and have been wearing them almost everyday since. Just like all Docs they look even better with age. Docs signature look is the yellow stitching around the sole of the shoes. Which has always been an eyesore for me because I wear mostly all black. So, I just take a black permanent marker or black dye and color over the threads whenever the yellow starts to show again. My only request is that they continue to add more feminine styles. read more

I got the best news today: Doc Martens is making vegan (no leather or animal product) shoes again. I was walking through SoHo today and walked by the Doc Martens store--where I'd never been before--so I stopped in. I stopped buying Doc Martens and started getting Vegetarian Shoes (made in England, not China) with the "Airseal" sole several years ago; I was actually wearing a pair of Vegetarian shoes T-straps today and pointed that out. The woman there mentioned they might introduce a pair of vegan Mary Janes for spring, which would be great, and I'm going to stop by there soon. (They have velvet Mary Janes there, but those are probably made with a leather inner sole or something, explained the clerk.) To tell you the truth, I wasn't clear whether Docs are made in England or China anymore; the sales associate didn't seem to be sure either. In any event, if you live in England, that's great: you can get your Docs repaired. For everyone else, you're sh!t out of luck, because they'll only re-sole the Docs of people living in England. I bought the Ali boot less than two weeks ago. After wearing them for about a week, the inside of the sole began to slip from the inside and peel away. When I went into the store a couple days ago to try to return or exchange them, but they wouldn't take them back. I didn't have the box, which is part of the return policy, but this was a quality issue on their part and they should have taken responsibility for it if they believe in quality customer service. The only slightly positive thing I can say is that the associate who helped me felt bad about saying no - I knew he was just telling me what his manager told him to say. So rather than making a scene at the store I decided to call online's customer service, who was much more understanding about the situation. I hate to say that it's an issue with the brand. I'm a college student on a budget and this pair was supposed to be an investment for the winter. I chose Doc Martens for their reputation and quality. However, I will probably choose to shop online in the future and actively avoid this store given my experience - it was a waste of time and money for a busy and broke person. read more

Ok I work in SoHo and went for a walk and thought I would do some Back Friday shopping. This was a huge mistake until I walked in the Dr. Martens store on Spring Street. The store was packed but Cory came right up to me and offered to help, I knew what I needed for my 15 yo daughter (black velvet boots) and like magic Cory had the boots for me in hand. He could have walked away but he made it his business to see if I wanted anything else and even informed me of the Black Friday deals. I saw a pair of shoes for myself I forgot about because of the crowd, I told Cory my size and he suggested I get on the checkout line and he would be right back. When he came back with the shoes he inspected both pairs to make sure I was happy taking the time to get to know me as a customer even asking about how many Docs my daughter has. I don't post many Yelp reviews but I feel that Cory and Dr. Martens SoHo went beyond what I would expect on a normal business day let alone on Black Friday. read more

Doc Martens have a reputation for being durable and long lasting. This is not the case. My pair stretched out so much I can no longer wear them. This was after 2 years of wear. Doc Martens shoes and boots speak for themselves. They have a long, punk-tastic history in England and they're some of the most long-lasting shoes/boots you'll ever own. Hands down. If you've never worn Docs before, I definitely recommend coming to an actual Doc Martens store so you can be sure you get a good fit and great customer service - and you'll get both of those things here! I personally recommend Victor (big, tall, buff guy; can't miss him!). My boyfriend and I have bought 4 pairs of boots from him and he is always super-nice, quick, and knowledgeable. They are amazing, they helped me get the correct sized shoe because my first pair from the Brooklyn location had a defect, the zipper kept going down and wouldn't stay up. The Brooklyn location had white workers that were very snobby towards me and did not want to help since I am a young black youth. The Soho location has more people of color workers and are more inclusive with their staff, I love them and they're gentle and kind people. They make me want to buy more Doc. Martens! read more

The staff here are so wonderful, I need to leave a review! I came in on a Monday afternoon and was helped by Marcus, who was super knowledgeable about all of the shoes, such as which ones run especially large. He was very friendly and patient with me as I tried on each pair like a million times and gave me advice for how to care for the shoes. Doc Martens tough, but also notoriously hard to break in. The return policy is 30 days with receipt, tags, and box if you change your mind, or even wear them around your home and they are unbearable. This store has balms you can apply to soften the leather and help with the break-in process, but in the meantime, ask for their FREE HEEL PADS available at all store locations. (I didn't know about this until I called the store today, with 3-inch blisters festering along with a determination to make it work...for fashion.) I'm not opposed to paying just a little over a hundred for a pair of versatile shoes (and outstanding customer service) that might last my lifetime. read more

Reuben is the guy in here to speak to. I went last month for a doctor's appointment around here and walked in th see that they have kids shoues now! UNfortunately, they have Burgundy, Navy, Black, Black/Floral and Hot Pink. Looking that I was looking a little more fun for my four-year-old boy other than colors he is going to be sitting in for the rest of his life. (blah) I will wait for others near the holidays. BE WARNED! There boots made in the Laos factory have a very different fit from the ones made in China. I bought a pair not knowing they were made in Laos. The sales associate assured me the boots would break in and fit perfectly. A few months in, they still hurt my feet and some of my toes are bruised. One of the sales associates told me about the factory differences and when I tried the same exact boot but made in China, it fit perfectly. The company won't let me exchange. The awesomest Docs store you will find-there is nothing pretentious at this place-I usually order my boots online but was having a difficult time with my super small feet-so Went in for a visit and found that the people are super nice without being pushy or rude...they are honest as well if something doesn't look right they will tell you and I walked out with 2 pairs...I haven't had a better experience shopping in a long time. I don't know if I came on a bad day or they really just have awful customer service but the staff we encountered was a racist. I came with my mom (we are both chinese) My mom asked a pink haired girl if they had a shoe in a size 7, she replied "I don't speak chinese" but my mom spoke in English, she has been in America for over 15 years and her English doesn't have any major problems. Fine whatever, I asked a staff for a pair that I liked and she was nowhere to be seen for probably 15 minutes. So I ended up asking the pink haired girl because I had thought that first girl wasn't going to get my shoes. The other staff that I had asked initially had finally came upstairs with my shoes, then shortly after the pink haired girl sees I'm trying on the shoes I asked for and says to me pretty aggressively "why did you ask me for the same pair of shoes if you had already asked someone else?!" I explained to her but she didn't listen. If it was any other shoe I would have just simply left and not bought it, but since I had my eyes on these for a while I decided to buy them anyways. Very poor shopping experience. Took a trip to this location with full intentions of purchasing a pair of boots. Upon arrival, even during the middle of a work day, the store was packed. For the amount of customers, there were simply not enough employees to help. I cannot even imagine the madness during weekend hours. Had to fight to get the attention of the only employee on the floor grabbing shoes to try on. Yes, only one person doing this. When the boots didn't fit and I needed a smaller size, it was impossible to get this employees attention again. So I packaged up the boots and left empty handed.
