In novato, its a whole in the wall with the best Hot and Sour soup. Great dumplings appetizer. Everything else is solid!

I love this place. It's within walking distance, so we eat there often. The owner/staff are always friendly and the food is always top notch. And every time I have gone in there, we have gotten to listen to his singing while he cooks. It's nice to hear someone enjoying what they do. read more

Ive been eating at Dragon Cafe for over 5 years. The food is great and the staff is friendly. Since moving to Sacramento I dont get to enjoy them but for a few times a year while visiting. On saturday I stopped in for what I consider world class pork fried rice. I took it togo as usually. When I got home and was making a bowl I noticed the only veggies n the rice was green onions and very little pork. It was extremely dissapointing considering I dont live close and couldnt take it back. Hopefully it was just a bad night. On any other visit id rate them a 5 star restaurant but today I just couldnt do it. Ill b back in the area next month and plan on dining in. I still choose to believe there rice is worth a trip from Sacramento to Novato! read more

The vegetables here are perfect! We had the green beans, sautéed bok choy in garlic, mu shu vegetables, broccoli, eggplant in garlic. All perfect. Here you can find some of the best Chinese food in Novato. I particularly like their won ton soup, hot and sour soup, curry chicken, kung pao chicken and mu shu pork better than any place else I've tried in Marin. The decor is like the sparse decor you find in China town. The tables and chairs are new within the last couple of years. The take out is usually ready in 10 minutes. They do not use MSG. Dragon Cafe is owned by a local family that has been very generous with the community. The dad does all the cooking, the mom and kids sometimes wait the tables and sometimes their is hired help with the tables. read more

In a nutshell, this place is the essence of yummy... Best place I've found by-far in my quest to find Chinese Food in Novato. Each meal starts off with a (believe it or not) "Flavorful" egg-drop soup. Not that bland snot you'd usually get... Your food is on your table, piping within seconds after you're done licking the inside of the bowl. It's presented on a huge, round plate. Reminds me of home cooking, but better. (Wifee, if you're reading this, August Fools!) I opted for the combo Chow-Fun the other day just to change it up & it didn't disappoint. Mixed within the tender beef & marinated chicken were these heavenly prawns w/ a subtle, caramelized garlic coating that added a slight crunch & flavor that could only be describe by Wil Ferrell's SNL skit imitating James Lipton, interviewing Charles Nelson Reilly, portrayed by Alec Baldwin... Scrumtrellescent... The Chow Fun was absolutely Scrumtrellescent... The place is literally a hole in the wall, but very well kept w/ excellent food & great prices. Portions are even enough to satisfy my massive, chiseled, sculpted from the God's, Hercules's Doppelganger self... ;) Really though, ENJOY! read more

I will qualify this by saying I've had excellent Chinese in SF so that's my past dining experience. Went recently on a Tuesday evening. Had Mu Shu Pork(was served with flour tortilla instead of traditional pancake) Pork Fried Rice (had gummmy rice & little flavor) & Shrimp Foo Young (which was tasteless) On a scale of 1-10 I would rate them 6, 3, & 3 respectively. I think it was just a bad night for them ? Next time I will try the dishes that others rate as excellent then I hope my opinion will change. i hate writing negative reviews. one caveat i will divulge is that my experience is limited to their catering. dragon cafe has a standing order every month with my company, and i've given their food many chances. unfortunately, the food is loaded with MSG, the meat is questionable, and i find myself feeling less than stellar after eating it. just my 2¢ worth. read more

Our family went to Dragon Cafe for lunch on our way to San Francisco and Napa vacation. The restaurant is clean and nice, we had four dishes, all tastes delicious, the food quality is good, oil level is low, and food came very quick as well. I've found that the best Chinese is to be found in little hole-in-the wall places. One such hole-in-the-wall is the Dragon Café in Novato. The establishment itself is very small, only two or three tables, and we've never eaten in the place, we always get take out and take it back to our room, so I can't attest to the service, but the food is outstanding. This is Chinese done right. We've tried everything from Shrimp Chow Mein to General's Chicken and it is all savory, tasty, and deelish. We live in Sparks, NV and come down to Novato several weekends thru the spring and summer. We always try to get down early enough to buy dinner here our first night in town. It's become sort of a tradition. I'm always afraid, as can happen with a smaller establishment like this, that the next trip to Novato it will be gone, but I guess they've been around since the '90's, and with food like this the danger of them disappearing is fairly low. Food very good, as owner is chef. Quantity very nice except when owners wife is there. When she is quantity is down. My wife and me use to go there for a number of years and stopped after a special dinner was skimpy, nothing to take home. She lost a number of customers due to her cheapness!!! read more

This is a little place with wonderful Chinese food, particularly for takeout. We recommend the shrimp with lobster sauce, the cashew chicken with steamed rice and the vegetarian egg foo yon. You'll be pleased with the excellent service and generous presentation of the dishes. read more
